Overall: Japong Bakery is a hit for bread, would come back to try some more. Food: The bread here was fantastic, each one has their own charm and there is a wide enough selection that everyone has at least one that they will like. I especially liked the sandwich bread, it reminded me of the breakfast sandwiches I would get in Taiwan. Service: Normal service for an Asian style bakery, you get the bread yourself and pay at the register. Ambiance: A chill ambiance inside with a few tables. Enough to have a small group, but not exactly roomy enough for larger groups.

We are regulars here, coming almost every week for 4 years straight. All of the pastries are great and the staff is very kind. Some top choices are the taro hun, bacon garlic roll, hot dog bun, pandan cake. You can ask to have the buns heated which I recommend for the savory ones. Chill coffee shop vibes, they have typical espresso drinks and milk tea. We also get our cakes from here, if you like Asian style cakes don't miss out!

Strawberry Mousse

OK, sometimes people aren't friendly. It wasn't an issue for me but it's something other people mentioned. Even so, it shouldn't deter you from purchasing. The desserts are PHENOMENAL. One my of favorite qualities about Asian desserts is the delicate sweetness. I took the chance and ordered some with a colleague...thoroughly impressed. The only item I've tried before was the strawberry mousse. So let's get to it. The mousse is delicately sweet, the matcha puff will satisfy your office tea lover (no bitterness), the coffee chiffon tastes like your favorite cappuccino in dessert form without the sugar crash, the custard bun and whipped cream bun WILL be office favorites, the pineapple bun is a perfect vessel for butter with a fried egg, the taro donut is happiness, the red bean mochi has a pillowy texture with subtle sweetness only a bean could provide, and the egg yolk mooncake is like nothing I've experienced. This could easily be a love or hate item. It's love for me :) The ambiance is perfect for a quick bite with friends or a date, but it's just as easy ordering through Uber or taking items to go. It's located in the Ritchie Center (where Darcars Chrysler and IHOP is, next to El Mariachi on Rockville Pike). Enjoy :D

Super cute lil bakery and market! Lots of options and I appreciate that there's an option that's dairy/egg free I've been craving moon cakes and this was a nice little treat! Also got the ham and onion roll and that was delicious too! Casual fast service that was very quick and easy!

Mango mousse cake

This is my go-to place for cake. The mango mousse is my favorite! There are so many authentic savory and sweet options that are freshly made every day. I always stop by for a quick treat when I'm in the area.

I literally travel from VA just to satisfy my bread cravings--and Japong is the only place that does it for me. Despite the number of Asian bakeries in VA, none of them compare. Japong's breads are soft, slightly sweet, and always freshly baked. You can definitely taste the difference when it's fresh out of the oven. My go-to favorites are the pork floss bun, the pork floss with scallion, ham, and corn, and the coffee bun. I've also tried their roll chiffon cakes, and those are delicious too! If you're looking for authentic Asian-style bread, Japong is hands down the best in town. Highly recommend! Just don't expect a trendy, Instagrammable Korean-style bakery--Japong is a more straightforward, no-frills spot focused on quality and taste.

Felt like some Japanese pastries, so I decided to try something new. Found this spot on Yelp and the reviews didn't lie as it is YUMMM! My husband and I both ordered matcha drinks - his with strawberry and mine classic. We also got savory and sweet pastries. Every single thing was delicious. There's a ton of selections for pastries and a smaller drink menu but don't let that sway you because it is all good. I will be back to try more and highly recommend!

I am so delighted to have discovered this gem of a bakery! I have come across many Asian bakeries but this Taiwanese one in particular stands out with its unique offerings. The store is clean and spacious with plenty of seating. Customer service was very helpful and friendly. Prices are reasonable. And most importantly, their baked goods are so delicious and worth the visit. I will have to make a pit stop here next time I'm in Rockville!

Love, love, love Japong Bakery!! So many sweet and savory tasty treats, and they put out fresh new items throughout the day. Very reasonable prices on both bakery items and drinks, as well as full cakes. I really like that this bakery is open later in the day, so you can still grab something for a weekend afternoon craving. The seating area is super cute, comfortable, and clean as well. One of our favorite places to visit!

This is a Taiwanese bakery. They have delicious daily baked goods, Coffee , tea and Taiwanese snacks for sale as well. We are very happy to discover this bakery . They have many Japanese style baked goods here. Like the Japanese style cheesecake, golden cake, mini pancakes filled with milky cream, chocolate sesame pan, green tea bread, and many other unique style pastries that we have not seen in other Asian shops. Clean store with adequate amount of tables and seatings. Friendly and Efficient customer service. Items are reasonably priced. Open Parking spaces out front and on the side. Highly recommend by IG@WineDinenVacay

Update January 2025 This place still is a gem! Definitely worth checking out. They have tons of drink options and bakery items. If certain bakery items aren't sold, then they will sell them for half off the following day. Highly recommend their pork floss items. Also their milk bread and taro breads are good too. Worth checking out if you are in the area.

If you are looking for the jiggly Japanese cheesecake this is the place! They have a variety of cakes and baked goods that rang from savory to sweet as well. It was mainly service for the pastries and they were all individually packaged so it was very clean and efficient. The cakes, including the Japanese cheesecake, are behind the counter. The have various decorated cakes for you to choose that come in very elegant packaging. The Japanese cheesecake was chilled so it wasn't as jiggly as you see in the videos but it was still very soft, almost melting in your mouth. I really enjoyed the flavor as it was very light and not too sweet.

Bonjour, Mon Ami! ( Hello, my friend...) It is good to visit and enjoy your delicious pastries!…read moreEven though I arrived late in the day, the pastry cases were full of enticing baked goods. There was every kind of croissant you can imagine. I bought my favorite almond croissant. There were fruit and cream filled pastries. I bought a fruit and cream filled pastry too. There were a lot of chocolate delicacies. I am going to buy some on my next trip. The ambiance is lovely. There are tables and chairs to sit and enjoy your sweets. There are cases filled with pastries. Service was great. I was waited on right away and they packed my box in a bag with a handle, to make it easier to carry. Au revoir, for now! But, I will be back for more delicious sweets.

There's seating inside, but the seating area is pretty small and some people were at tables looking like they weren't going anywhere anytime soon. It was a nice morning, so we were able to grab an outside picnic table. The service was decent. One disappointment was when the counter person asked me if I wanted room for cream in my coffee, I said yes and asked if they had nondairy products. She said they had almond and soy. I asked for soy and she returned with my drink. When I went to pay, I saw they charged 79 cents for almond, soy and oatmilk. Ok. Here's the thing. I assume it's on the board and I should have looked, but she also could have mentioned it. Also, charging for these items when they put a little in your coffee leaves me feeling like I'm being abused for not being a dairy person. I get it - it's a pastry shop and the items are buttery and rich from cream. But please - 79 cents for a little soy milk? (I know this isn't uncommon for coffee shops, but it doesn't make it right.). And the coffee ($4.25) was decent - not great. I expected better (richer, more flavorful) coffee from a nice pastry shop like this. Anyway, it's a nice neighborhood place and there's a lot of treats there.

3.5 stars for me. Items are decent but not amazing…read more We ordered the fruit sponge cake for a party and stopped by in the morning to pick out some additional pastries. We came around 9am and they had a decent selection of buns. We got a mix of baked pork buns, pineapple buns, custard buns, and the lotus wrapped sticky rice. Items were individually wrapped. Egg tarts weren't ready yet. I was pleasantly surprised to find the white sugar rice cake. At approximately $3-$6 per item (give or take), it came to ~$50. The pork bun was dry and skimpy on filling. Since we came right at opening, I'm not sure if it was yesterday's pastries since some shelves were still empty. The white sugar rice cake was good, but not the best I've had. I don't come across this dessert as often as I like, so finding it at Asian Bakery Cafe was a treat. They also have moon cakes, roll cakes, and a small freezer for take-home dim sum. The Asian sponge fruit cake, which was our primary reason for stopping by, was adequate. Again, it wasn't the worst I've had, but it also wasn't the best I've had. The sponge cake was light and not too sweet (an Asian dessert standard), but it wasn't life-changing or anything to write home about. The cake had nice presentation from the packaging of the box (tied with a ribbon bow) to the icing and fruit on top. Fruit toppings included cantaloupe, honeydew, strawberries, kiwi, and peach. Fruit distribution in the filling was uneven and sparse. The cake met our needs but I wouldn't necessarily choose this bakery over another. I do want to highlight their service. When we picked up the cake, the worker kindly carried the cake for us and put it in our car. Five stars for service!

Tired a few things on a whim from Savvy Treats. It's definitely a carry-out shop as the ambiance,…read morewith no indoor or outdoor seating. They do also sell a variety of drinks, teas, and even greeting cards. Here is how everything was: The Chocolate mousse shooters with whipped cream (2 oz) was definitely decadent, but grainy tasting as well. It was tough to get over the texture of something so rich that was meant to be smooth and wasn't. I liked the Salted Caramel Cheesecake Shooters (2 oz) a bit more because of the different flavors (the cheesecake layer being my favorite). The Chocolate Covered Strawberries were nice, but the strawberries were tart (which is definitely tough to gauge). Lastly, the buttercream on the Mini Cupcake was overly sweet and the cupcake was not as moist as I would have anticipated. There is limited parking (outdoor) outside the shop, but it is free.

Monday 2/24/25 & Tuesday 3/11/25…read more Once again, another spot that has been on my list for a while, and it seems that I came at a very unique time as a new owner had recently taken over. The new owner was a good dude. He provided great service, was very friendly & personable, and has lots of goals & innovations that he wants to accomplish for the business. I had a couple of items I wanted to try, but some of them weren't available. On my first trip, I got the carrot cupcake $3.95 and the Oreo cupcake $3.95. On my second trip, I came back to get my birthday gift they gave me which was $10 store credit, and got both of the cupcakes and a cinnamon crunch scone. Also, the near $4 price tag for the size of these cupcakes isn't something I'm too fond of, but oh well. - The carrot cake cupcake was good: the icing and cake complemented each other very well. - The Oreo cupcake was alright, but I wasn't impressed with it. - The cinnamon crunch scone was an easy miss for me, didn't do anything for my taste buds. Overall, it's a decent spot with a relatively limited amount of pastries but I fully expect in the coming months for the business to take a huge shift and really blossom.
