No one there is accountable, and the last tech they sent was so condescending, I felt sick. This place deserves zero stars. Had a good tech come, was gonna service mom's oil furnace but he saw a problem. I did trust the tech's eval, so asked for quote for new furnace. Salesman from Nicholson came. We told him we did eventually want to go whole home heat pump, so quote for both new furnace and that. Guy comes back with an asinine oil furnace quote... No... I'd call it predatory, since it's a quote for a 73 yr old woman with no working furnace, for $22k! He "took off" 4k manager discount (what a guy). The whole home was $35k. Even that was above industry standard. Whats worse is their answer to why they were so over priced... They claim their warranty is second to none. When pressed on the issue, I discovered it means you can't find another like it out there, meaning their price match "apples to apples" will never work. Imagine some elder out there not knowing oil furnace prices nowadays (like we didn't) and just paying the $18k they so graciously lowered it to, after offering to finance? I even got them to go lower after speaking to them about all this - down to about $15k. We ended up replacing the oil furnace with Tasses for $8k. That's HALF their best wheedled down, begged for price. In all this I learned the "family" business it used to be sold it to a large corporation StrikePoint so know what you're getting into before you put your money down folks. Will be cross posting. Daikin heat pump/ac install. The work was done efficiently. The whole crew were a joy to work with. It is so good to hear a bunch of working men laughing and enjoying the work even though an old home is not easy to work in when you are updating services. Victor, Cameron, and Dominik were right on top of their duties, and didn't mind how many questions I asked. Josh and Claudio knew their jobs and oversaw the work constantly. Brandon and Mike did the Electrical upgrades with a minimum of disruption to service and were very sensitive to my daughters need to continue to work from home even bringing in a generator to allow her to not have to take much time from her job. Avoid at all costs. They came out and recommended a system for my townhouse and I spent $13k on their recommended heat and ac system. When they scheduled the install, they scheduled it for a Thursday saying it would take 2 days. After two days, it wasn't done, and they left my elderly mother without any ac for a weekend because the electrician couldn't come out until Monday. Once the system was installed it was set up incorrectly because as their supervisor said, "their techs don't really know the ins and outs of the system. They got it running a little better but the system they recommended is not strong enough to cool the townhouse. I also went into the office and spoke to Marci who said they recommended the wrong system and understand that an energy saving unit was not the best choice for a townhouse. A year later I call for my yearly maintenance to keep my warranty active and the woman on the phone asked me if I had a mini split installed, which is not the system. When the tech came out, he told me I needed a $261 cleaning, which I did to keep my warranty active. For $261 he sprayed the condenser with a hose and a cleaning solution. He did not take off the top, vacuum anything out, or go through any of the steps needed to actually clean the system. I told him about the problem we were having and he said for another fee they could come out and balance the systems air ducts. Why was this not done when I paid $13k for a brand new system? I have called twice this week to speak to a supervisor and have been put on hold for 10+ minutes until they hang up. Do yourself a favor, stay away from these people. read more

Absolute ripoff, along with shady business practices. They were prompt and courteous, but that's about it. The technician came and had to replace a $200 part on my boiler, it took him under an hour to do the work. A simple Google search showed at least 10 places to buy the exact part, all around $200. No other parts were needed for this repair, I researched what is involved. I was charged almost $1000, including their $89 diagnostic fee just to walk in the door. So apparently it's a $600+/hour labor rate? I'm obviously in the wrong line of work. This was not an off hours emergency call either, it was a scheduled appointment in the middle of a weekday. The shadiest part of the entire thing was that on the invoice (that they email you later) they bury all the cost, it's not itemized i.e. labor vs parts cost. It just says replaced (part) = $1000. A super scummy and shady way to run a "professional" business, taking advantage of people who don't know any better. I wouldn't be surprised if they also sell used cars. Never again Gervais. I had an electric hot water heater abruptly let go. A quick search of local companies yielded Gervais Mechanical out of Auburn. They were very quick to respond back understanding it was an emergency. They immediately provided options via email. The rest of the process from selecting the new heater, schedule of install, deposit, and paying in full was all performed online. It was a Wednesday afternoon, and they were at my place 8am Friday to install. The installer was extremely professional, kind, and knowledgeable. The entire process from start to finish was perfect. I all of a sudden had no heat this past Friday and I called Gervais who had cleaned my furnace the year before. Within one hour, he was at my door. Very nice and got it up and running without too much problem. I am very happy cause the company who installed it ( not Gervais) was who I called first and they said their first opening was the following Wednesday!! I was very pleased with the service that I received form this company. I had to call them back for a buzzing sound that I had coming from my oil furnace. They didn't charge me for the return visit, only for the parts that were needed to fix a different problem with the furnace. Ben was friendly and very informative. They installed my water heater so far away from my fixtures that I never have any hot water: all of my plumbing is on the north side of the house, and they put the water heater as far to the south as they could. It takes at least a minute, usually two, before the water runs warm. Since I live alone, I have the option of wasting two gallons of water or washing my hands in cold water. I told them TWICE where I wanted it to be, and they claimed it couldn't be done--a lie. When I complained, they tried to upsell me with a "recirc line" for another couple grand. Complained to state, but the Consumer Protection folks can only mediate, not dictate, so I'm going to have to file a claim in court. If you have had a similar experience, let me know and maybe we can expand this to a class-action lawsuit. read more

About a year and a half ago my AC started to fail. I called Gervais and they sent someone out. The repairmen convinced me that the unit needed to be replaced and any repair would not be guaranteed to work. They sent me a quote almost immediately for a new unit and I signed on to get the work done. I should have gotten a quote from someone else or did more homework myself honestly, but I signed with them to get the tax credit and other stuff. By the time the unit was installed it was almost Halloween and the AC would not be used until next summer. Roll forward several months and I finally test out the unit for the first time. I cannot get it to turn on. Instead it blasts hot air, not an ounce of cold to be found. I call them but this was not considered an emergency. My house was between 90-100 degrees and I am sure that it should have worked immediately. I mean I did pay them $15k to get a working unit, right? So roll forward two weeks and they finally show up. It takes several appointments and repairmen and they finally get cold air. The first guys ripped out the thermostat and rewired it in a new location. They left several massive holes in my walls which I would normally be grateful for, if they fixed the unit. Another two more appointments and about a week later, they finally got it working. I had to patch the holes and clean up the messes left behind. At least it was covered under warranty and I didn't have to pay for each visit. Another 3 months later and I receive an email, you have a scheduled maintenance. Yay, right? I mean if I don't get the maintenance my warranty is void so I better do it. Wait. They don't show. They don't call. They just ghost me. They sent me an email to notify me of the appointment so I mean shouldn't they actually show up, call if they needed to reschedule, something? Another month later, still nothing from them, and now I am turning on my heat. Guess what?! It's not working. I turn my unit on and it won't automatically turn the heat on when the temp drops. I have to either blast the heat or it turns off. I literally have to manually turn the heat on and off to get it to work. I left a message with their voice answering service and no response. On their salespersons advice, I had a Lennox ducted minisplit system installed in November 2022 by an install crew that was destructive unsafe and insulting for $13,000 and it has never functioned properly. I have been in touch with them multiple times per week for almost 2 years now. Most of the employees have been very polite and two of their senior techs seem to be very skilled but they can't make this system work. One of the owners was obnoxious enough to suggest that I didn't know how to set a thermostat. I also believe from a random coincidence connection that they just left an install at the end of the day with a smoldering fire in the attic which they started and then spread throughout that home. read more

I purchased a home just prior to covid and had a whole system installed on my first and 2nd floor. I have had nothing but problems with it. My second floor unit has not worked going on 2 years now and have to put in window a/c in the bedrooms . They have sent multiple techs out over this time frame and still nothing is working correctly. I reached out just before Memorial Day to let them know the system is still not working and they said they would have someone reach out by the end of the day and never called me back. I called 3 times last week and every time they said they would have the service manager reach out by the end of the day and I still have not received any calls and we just went through a heat wave. There office staff and techs have no idea what customer service is, and I would not ever recommend them to anyone read more

One star may be too much after having no satisfaction from a 10K central AC system installation. System worked for only the first season installed. Leaked every year after having Gervais to refill on my dime. they had been contacted as required and they said they cannot find a significant leak. 6 years later... they send in a great veteran Enzo. He finds the leak in 20 minutes by seeing the OLD dye they said was not visible years ago. Incompetency or lazy they were. They screwed up the diagnostics for years. Bottom line is no satisfaction, just words. They probably can't admit internally they are not good at troubleshooting and have to cover their asses and attempt to charge me for ALL of THEIR problems. I'll be looking for more HVAC forums to alert any possible customer to watch out for Gervais poor, poor after sales integrity. NO INTEGRITY. update 7/9/22 Contractor says "they want to help" I take this as the first liability statement. check the helpful estimate for repairs in the attachment area below Anyway They asked us to go into our attic and take photos You decide if that's ok as a customer I was asked to stop writing reviews I will when the AC system is repaired and functions next season as well (I'm setting a reminder) I'll be honest with integrity if I'm made whole by my standard. I contacted Gervais Mechanical in October 2024 for an estimate to replace the entire HVAC system in my 3,800 sf. home in Northborough, it would include the AC, heating, air handlers, boiler, water heater etc. They sent someone to my house who arrived on time for the appointment. Very friendly and somewhat knowledgeable, he spent about an hour or so to collect all information he needed. He then asked to go inside of every room in the house to measure room by room. I wasn't told that he would need to do that and wasn't prepared but I allowed him to do so. My home was a bit messy because my wife was sick and wasn't feeling well for that entire week. This was on a Saturday. Before he left, he told me I would have the estimate by the following Monday. Perfectly fine. Nothing on Monday. On the following Tuesday I contacted him regarding the estimate. He said he had a family situation but the next day I should have the estimate. It has passed over a week and I didn't hear a word from this guy. I was referred to Gervais Mechanical from a "sister" business partner Nicholson with highly regards of their business. I felt somewhat financially discriminated as if they didn't believe I was able to afford a new system. I couldn't think of any other reason. It was well explained to him that the second floor didn't have heat and I need this project to start soon. Looking at their reviews here makes me thing that perhaps this was a release I didn't sign with them. I have signed a contract with their competitor for about 90k to replace my entire system. I am glad I didn't go with Gervais Mechanical knowing that a simple estimate could've not been delivered, imagine the actual work? Maybe they are too good to take an 90k project, who knows? I'm still recovering from a cold since they left me without heat for three days and the second tech came and stayed 2 hours but said it needed a new heat pump. Stay away at all costs!!! you have been warned. Had a ducted mini split Lennox system installed in August 2022 and it has been a nightmare since. Also had a 200 amp electrical system upgrade done. First cold weather in October 2022 the system stopped working. It would be 35 degrees outside and it was 51 inside with the system constantly running. Our electric bill went from $300 a month to $1100 a month because of the system!! Gervais came out 10 times and said the system was working normally. Manager Josh finally admitted in fall 2023 that they installed the wrong system!! We finally contacted our lawyer and sued, they gave partial settlement but damaged our house during installation and cost us $15,000 or more in electrical bill increases!! Also they installed the outdoor meter box with the electric system live, National Grid discovered this upon random inspection of outside lines after a storm. They noticed the National Grid technicians that meter box wiring was actively smoldering!! Also they never had anything inspected by national grid or the town of Athol!! Customer relations manager Marissa didn't even care about any of this and stated since my lawyer and myself didn't include exact money numbers that it didn't matter to the. They have costed us $60,000 and that's not including any pain and suf fering!! Also they kept nearly $10,000 in mass rebates and to this day our newer electric system causes intermittent blackout!! They hire installers that are not qualified. Some of the issues were kinked copper piping, incomplete setup of unit, wires left hanging, 3 ceiling leaks from parts that don't fit. 6 months ago Gervais installed a new humidifier together with the requisite new minpump (Sauermann Si-83) to discharge the condensate. Come November when I turned the new humidifier on with the heat, the minipump failed and gave me a small flood in my basement. I called to have Gervais come fix the pump. No answer. A week later I called a second time and was told Ryan would call me back. Another week goes by, no answer. Today I called a 3rd time and was assured someone would call me back. Again, no returned call as they promised by the end of the day. At one point I was seriously considering an annual maintenance contract with them. Not now. read more

In August of 2023, I had baseboard elements and the piping from the boiler installed in my house by Gervais Mechanical. The quote was to use the existing boiler and zone circulator pumps that existed. I was told that the system would be rebuilt from the circulators to the completion of the loops. I was told that I would receive another visit from a team member to make a stock list. This never happened. There installers showed up on a Monday for a three day job totally unprepared. The job took five days to complete. During these five days I had to watch as their workers were left to do the job with very little support. I had to argue about the scope of the work with management. They wanted to reuse the twenty year old shut off and drain valves that were located after the circulator pumps. That's $40 in materials. They refused to budge. At that point I decided to have the circulators replaced as well to insure the integrity of the system which would also include the valves in question. In short, I compromised. I just wanted the job done. I took off three days of work to be there and at that point we were into the fourth day. I also had the supply the solder for this extra work as the installers were no properly supplied. When the system was started up it had to be shut down, drained and the three leaks repaired. There were also issues with clean up and waste disposal. Presently, the covers are falling off of most of the baseboards because they are separating from the wall. The screws were put into the drywall in most locations and not studs. There were no permits obtained and no final in-house inspection that I was promised. I ran my own business in the home construction field for over twenty years and wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt as I know things don't always go as planned and surprises exist. This is far beyond that. I went with this company because they offered financing. What a mistake! As a business, my complete work load was from customer referral. I urge people needing work on there house to go with a referral. I think a person should ask themselves why a company would need to advertise. Quality work does not have to advertise. I wish this could be posted with less than a one star rating. read more

Bill, Gene and Jesse did an amazing job with our jigsaw puzzle of a 1900 home. New heating and AC throughout, new Combiboiler system and a ton of other little jobs. Maneuvering our terribly built home, navigating our asbestos siding and doing it all with a big smile and a "Good Morning" was a blessing. Other people show up at 10 and worked until 3...not acceptable. Gene- shows up at 7 as promised and we're so grateful we found someone who does what they say they're going to do. 90+ degree heatwave is ALWAYS when the AC people get called! Called on Sunday night to find out the emergency rates (ouch- $325 first hour, $199 every additional, but an emergency is an emergency, and this seemed normal). We had a leak - well a DOWNPOUR coming from a single vent, which created a lake in a room. We sopped it up, then propped up the suspect pipe and opted for a normal hours appt... $150/first hour, $55/half hour after. - more reasonable. Well, everyone else called for normal-hour appts too, but since this was an emergency task, they managed to sneak us in for a Monday appt. Chris was phenomenal at explaining things appropriately to us, made suggestions for some additional work, but not a hard oversell which I appreciated. During the original hour he managed to complete some additional minor tasks for us as well: tightening the fridge waterline and unclogging a sink. Completely satisfied customers. Well,..... then 10 minutes later we saw that the task of fixing that suspect drain pipe couldn't wait. The drip was back...... Chris's plan was going to be to come back in a couple days to fix it (didn't have the piping with him, and we all hoped this would happen on a NON-95-degree day.) Gervais was able to sneak us in the next day as well, after a cancelation and some finagling. Couple days later now, the pipe has been fixed, the ac is still working, and there is no more leaking. Luckily the heat wave is breaking too! read more

No matter what their TV ad says, I should have done my research, and for that mistake I paid the price! To make a long story short I felt after the service call I felt used, abused, confused and $500 in the hole with not a penny of the money spent towards getting me to the cool zone on a hot summer day. Instead the HVAC technician performed some kind of check and charged me just under $500 to tell me something I already knew before they even started that my system had a leak. I informed a representative in the service call that my HVAC system was cooling but not to the set temperature and that it needed to be recharged and I had it recharged previously (approximately 5 years ago). The slow leak in my HVAC system could have been something as simple as a loose coupling or fitting but the technician focused on my old out dated HVAC system that was better off being replaced due to it was old and the high cost of repairs and or refrigeration recharge that would cost me thousands of dollars. I know things would be just fine with a refrigeration recharge but they left me feeling I had no other choice but to purchase a new HVAC system so they can fill their own pockets. They gave me a quote but no receipt for services performed and no hard copy or email estimate for a new system install in over a week since they departed.
