Inaccessible location, limited store and pick up options but attractive display of options and friendly staff. plan ahead. they need lots of time and are slow to communicate about custom orders. I purchased a completely unusable cake that the baker mistakenly put Bavarian cream in when I had ordered raspberry filling. When I picked up the cake nothing was said. when I returned home they telephoned me with the information and expressed that they wanted me to be happy but the only solution to the mistake made was for me to drive back down to the bakery location so they could "remove the cream and replace it with raspberry filling" I am not sure how that works! Came in here for a cookie. I got one chocolate chip and a vegan chocolate. The first to go down the hatch was the Vegan chocolate chip. Overall it was a pretty good. The chocolate chips were not too overpowering and the bite was smooth, although a tad bit dry, but you can't expect every cookie to come right out of the oven every second of every day. It was a decent sized cookie for the bite and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Needed a bit more flavor for me personally, maybe something to add just a slight kick to it. The next was the regular chocolate chip. Right away you could smell and taste the butter within the first few seconds, a noticeable difference but as you would expect, the texture was creamier, the bite was smoother and the aroma stronger than the first cookie. As one of the more recent additions to the Village Gate mix, let me say I wish these guys well. While I haven't tried their cupcakes yet, a friend of mine was raving about their cookies so I had to give them a try. Up until now I've not had a store made cookie that came close to the taste of home-made. That is, until now. Utterly scrumptious & definitely something that will throw my diet off a cliff if I succumb to them on a regular basis! I've tried their Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter and Double Chocolate Chip cookies so far. The Double Chocolate Chip is my fave to date. Definitely a diet wrecker! Why three stars if I love their cookies? Not everything I've had there has been up to snuff. I tried their Rice Krispie bar & it was definitely lacking (I'm a Rice Krispie Bar purist). Couldn't even finish it. Plus, their hours of operation are somewhat limited. There's a large block of time in the afternoon when they are closed. The place is super cute with its pink walls. Upon walking in, you're greeted by a full frontal display of cupcakes, cake, and cookies. There's a little sign that explains how to read what's gluten free, vegan, etc. There is also a refrigerator with beverages (water, soda, milk) and a hot beverage center with coffee and hot water. We ordered 4 cupcakes for $11 and 1 cookie for $1. We also got one tea and one coffee, $1.50 each. There was only one selection of tea, English breakfast, so that was a little disappointing. But they had soy milk for creamer which was good! Cupcakes were mocha, chocolate raspberry, Boston cream, and peanut butter chocolate. Flavors? Meh. I don't get the hype. The cake by itself has barely any flavor- it was all in the icing. And the icing was so intensely sweet...they should offer complimentary water! The cookie was peppermint chocolate. My son and I stumbled upon this bakery while visiting the MAG. We saw the sign out front and decided to try it out. Boy were we happy we did! I was iffy at first because we got there around 12:30pm and there were no cupcakes on the display case. The girl at the counter greeted us and said they were in the process of frosting all of the cupcakes. She said to choose whatever I wanted and they'd ice them right then. I bought 6 for just $16! We chose Almond, Chocolate, Chocolate Raspberry, Tutti Frutti, and Lemon. We brought them home to one of the most picky eaters and food critics in our family. They passed the test! Im always on the lookout for a bakery that accommodates allergies in our family but was sadly disappointed with this place PROS: -I LOVE that they make dietary accommodations (gluten free, Nut free, vegan), and that they are clearly labeled on the boxes. -large variety/ many options of flavors CONS: -cupcakes didn't taste good. GF Chocolate ones were dry (or over baked?) and then others (GF funfetti and cookie dough) seemed to be under baked. Some major inconsistencies. -my order was messed up, even after placing my order online first and the calling them to go over the order. I requested one GF chocolate cupcake and one regular and ended up with both GF. I also requested the GF cupcakes have rainbow sprinkles on them for my daughter but that wasn't done. I'm not a fan at all. First of all, Village Gate is terrible. Parking, the building, all of it. It's in desperate need of renovation. Not necessarily their fault though, I get that. I had been wanting to go here for awhile, and finally had the opportunity. I'm vegetarian, so not vegan, but I use almond milk and things like that, so I'm definitely open minded on baked goods. The cupcakes are rather small, and $2.50 to $3.00 each, which is high for what they are. I got 4. I wasn't thrilled with any of them. The cake tastes a lot like a muffin. I hate that. I don't want a muffin with frosting on it. Yuck. That being said, all of the frosting was good. I definitely wasn't going back, but I didn't hate them necessarily... until I ate the red velvet. Literally the worst red velvet cake I've ever had! And that's my favorite kind of cake, so if I'm at a bakery, you can bet I had red velvet. I can't even explain what it tasted like. My girlfriend and I tried this place out on a weekday evening. We bought two cookies (toffee and orange) and two cupcakes (almond joy and coffee caramel). The toffee cookie was great, super buttery and moist! Unfortunately the rest of our order wasn't great. The orange cookie was overly cakey and pretty dry. Both cupcakes were very dry as well. Okay, Get Caked is the real deal. First off, it's in a super great location being located in the Village Gate, which is good for me. (My office is literally next door.) Did not know however, that what I was eating was both vegan and gluten-free. You literally cannot tell the difference and now I feel less bad about eating various sweets from them at least once every couple of weeks. The cookies are killer, cupcakes are awesome and there's all kinds of different flavors from cookies and cream to fruity pebbles. (I know, wild!) Plus prices are super cheap. Just keep in mind that if you're using a card, I believe there is a $5 minimum. Today, my usual coffee place, also located in Village Gate was closed, so I grabbed a coffee here and it was really very good. I was very impressed. My boyfriend and I went in the other night about an hour before closing... BIG MISTAKE we purchased a six pack of cupcakes and a few cookies. I am not sure if it was because the cupcakes and cookies were older but they were so so so dry and hard. The almond raspberry frosting was good but once again cupcake super dry. The carrot cake frosting was good as well but cupcake super dry hard and almost crunchy. I didn't even bother trying the other cupcakes...We were advised to keep the cupcakes at room temperature because putting them in the fridge would dry them out.. too late! She has a small selection for the time being as the shop gets up and running. Her current selection includes regular and vegan cupcakes and cookies. My favorite was the lemon - such a subtle hint of the citrus flavor in both the frosting and cake. I played a little trick on my friend too, having her taste the vanilla and told her after the fact that it was vegan. She had no clue and couldn't tell. I love that there's a perfect balance of cupcake to frosting - you don't ever want one or the other overshadowed in a yummy bite of sweet deliciousness. This place gets 5 stars for a couple reasons. Let's go with the obvious: if I am eating gourmet cupcakes that are gluten free or vegan and I can't tell the difference, that's bomb. The fact that they offer those progressive options, and have before most places started to jump on the dietary needs bandwagon shows they've got it down. If you are a celiac like my Mom, this is a place you can trust that won't cross contaminate. The bakers are celiacs themselves. Baller. When we boxed them up they put the non gf ones in a separate container. They offer gf bread loaves most days (except Mondays) for $6.50. Blueberry Oatmeal Cookies: These are their signature dessert and absolutely delicious. I've been to Get Caked many times and never leave without one of those in my hand. The brownies are cake-like so if you like-cake-like then you're good to go. The cupcakes are standard but with many flavors that are not standard so that's a plus. I had one of their custom birthday cakes at a party once - a standard good birthday cake. The blueberry oatmeal cookies really set this place apart. It is worth heading over to Village Gate if only to get one of these. It's a small shop inside and you will be greeted by a glass case filled with their offerings and a friendly smile. There is a small cozy seating area as well. Prices are what you would expect. Five stars for baking the best cookie I have ever eaten and for having that cookie be vegan. Adam and I came here to get some dessert for a weekend away to celebrate our anniversary. The location is great and easy to find but if you aren't familiar with village gate it can be confusing. Eventually your nose will lead the way. Adam and I each got a cookie to eat on the way to buffalo and they were great, super flavorful and gone in about 30 seconds. Later that evening we had our cupcakes. We started with the fruity pebble cupcake. It was okay. Fruity pebbles are hard to cook with because they end up coming out like they are stale. The good thing though was the flavor. You could totally taste the fruity pebbles and it tasted like breakfast and dessert all at once. Next we had the raspberry lemonade cupcake. I was super disappointed and wished I had picked. Different cupcake. It is a lemon cupcake with lemon frosting and a 1/2 teaspoon of raspberry jelly in the middle, basically it was a lemon cupcake. I wish the frosting was raspberry. Lastly was the apple pie cupcake. This was fabulous be literally tasted like apple pie right down to the chunks of apple in it. I would certainly suggest that one. Overall, it was okay here. There are so many great bakery's in Rochester so you really need to have it together. This place is AMAZING! I love their cupcakes and often use them for bribery! It's impossible to get something lousy here, everything is amazing. My personal favorites are the peanut butter and jelly cupcakes! Yum!! They also do gluten free bread which not many people know about! It's absolutely amazing and FAR better than Udi's They have a punch card for 10 visits then a free treat! They've always been really great to me! Maybe I got the wrong flavour but my cupcake experience wasn't as mind blowing as other Yelpers. I got the red velvet with almond frosting (regular). I think I just am not a fan of frosting. I ended up scraping most of the frosting off after a taste. However, the cake's texture was a good balance of fluffy and dense. It just didn't seen to have that classic red velvet flavour. It did taste better with the thin layer of almond frosting. The frosting wasn't flooded with that terrible almond extract flavour and wasn't overly sweet. I really appreciated that. I am guessing most customers love frosting and that's why they put a lot of it on. They also had samples of their vegan/GF chocolate cake - it was better than most I have tried but I still didn't like the texture. The cupcake was $2.50 + tax - which is a fair price. The space is nice and homey. The baker was very sweet and answered my 101 questions patiently. I will be willing to go back and try another flavour sometime. read more

I have been to Get Caked a few times. The location is in the village gate. There is a decent sized parking lot and parking is almost always available albeit often a good walking distance away. Last week was my one year wedding anniversary so I stopped in for a few cupcakes. I chose the vanilla, turtle, and almond joy variety. The price is reasonable, about 11-12$ for 4 cupcakes. The vanilla was perfect. I tend to prefer cake that is not too moist or sweet. The vanilla fit the bill, not to mention the cupcake to frosting ratio was on point. The turtle was tasty and consisted of a chocolate cupcake with caramel and pecans on top. There is a large variety of flavors, including both gluten free and vegan options. Cookies are sold here as well. I believe I saw brownies in the display case too! I have tried a few bakeries in Rochester including: Sinful Sweets and Scratch. I prefer Get Caked. read more

Let it be known that Get Caked has made the best cronut-ish I've ever had in Rochester. Crunchy caramelized toffee on the outside, flaky on the inside with a doughy donut aftertaste after the pasty condenses into a bolus in your mouth. I could eat 4 of these in one sitting, but unfortunately I had to share with my cronut cronies..errm.. buddies! Though they may not win it for the cupcakes (not as moisty as I like, or maybe I chose the wrong flavors.. we came later in the day), I think they could make it big with the cronuts alone. If I had to choose, my favorite cupcake was the vanilla with raspberry filling. We had peanut butter, lemon, cherry, chocolate, boston creme, red velvet (no). As far as service-- the cronut-ishes were actually made to order. I called in, after seeing a picture on yelp, and the baker (Helen?) said she would make them for me the next day. I received two cupcakes from this bakery yesterday that were purchased same day. One was chocolate with chocolate frosting and the other was vanilla with chocolate frosting. The chocolate cupcake had no flavor and was extremely dry. The frosting had a very sugary texture. The vanilla cupcake was, well, a picture tells a thousand words. My sister had her wedding cake done by Get Caked. The cake was beautiful. The owner(I believe she might have been) was very good about our pickup time and the way my sister wanted the cake to look, hit it on the nail! We had one gluten free cupcake, two other not gluten free verities, as well the wedding cake. The cakes themselves were very dry and dense, we ended up with tons of leftovers because no one liked it. Very yummy cupcakes! We went towards the end of the day after dinner so some of their flavors were sold out. They had a fruity pebble one so I was very excited for that. That one wasn't my favorite; the cereal was baked into the cupcake and came out kind of soggy-like. The cupcake I really liked was the Nutella flavored cupcake. There was chocolate frosting and Nutella in the center of the cupcake. Very heavy but very delicious. Great to pair with a glass of milk. This is a small shop where there aren't a lot of seats so I think most people take their orders to go. While we were there there was a couple who was speaking to I believe the owner about cupcakes for a wedding. The service was good and the guy behind the counter was friendly.
