Stopped by here to tag along with a friend who was picking up her son's birthday cake. Anyways, the lady working was super friendly. Very nice and personable. To be honest, I was a bit underwhelmed with the cake design. It was a plain 10" cake with white icing and printed out images stuck on top with a printed out image as a ribbon along the bottom edge. THAT'S IT. For what she told me paid for it, I just thought it was a bit high for the caliber of the decoration. The cake lady did ask if my friend wanted anything else added to the cake but honestly, I don't know what could have been added in a couple minutes to make up for the lackluster design. Maybe I'm biased because I have done cakes, highly detailed cakes. I'm sure to have a highly detailed cake here, my friend would have paid double or more than what she paid. Needless to say, my friend RAVES about how delicious the cakes are and I wish I was in town a day longer so I could comment but I'll trust her word that the cakes here taste awesome. Such a solid collection of vegan cupcakes. I was here to visit my sister who's also vegan and comes here once a month and is love with the cupcakes. I got a carrot cake cupcake this time and enjoyed it. It's good. My sister said they also had vegan sugar cookies on Valentine's Day and they were super good. She's been checking back every now and then for more but it sounds like they only bring them out for holidays. Hopefully we get to see more of their creations added to the normal offerings. I won a gift card to Get Caked last year, and used it to order a birthday cake for my niece's first birthday. It was beautiful and delicious, and I was impressed. This year I hosted a very involved dessert baby shower for one of my closest friends, and Get Caked worked with me every step of the way. Email was easier for me than the phone - especially when I got the flu and lost my voice for a week right before the party - and they were very accommodating. They gracefully managed a change shortly before the event, and for everything that we received, the cost was reasonable. The goodies were delivered the morning of the shower by one of the owners, and they were picture-perfect, "in theme" (and we had a very unique theme - baby as political candidate campaigning), and oh so tasty. I was craving a vegan cupcake, and Red Fern is closed on Mondays so I went over to Get Caked to check out their selection. I wasn't familiar with the building it was located in so it was very difficult for me to find it. I was looking for it on the outside, but the store is located inside a building. The interior of the store was gloomy and dark. It wasn't very welcoming. I got boston creme, chocolate and twist cupcakes while my husband got the pumpkin chai. I liked the cake part of the cupcake; it was soft and moist and not too sweet. I normally don't like frosting, and I didn't like the frosting on these cupcakes either. They're overly sweet and stiff. I don't like the texture of the sprinkles and frosting against the soft and comforting texture of the cake part. The chocolate cupcake was delicious. The twist wasn't my favorite but I liked it. The boston creme was really yummy, although the filling was a little bit too sweet for me. I didn't enjoy the frosting on any of them but the cake part was really delicious. The cupcakes were heavy and filling, and I couldn't eat more than 1 in a sitting; That's not a bad thing though. The cupcakes were pretty basic and I didn't feel like they were worth the $11 I paid for them. I enjoyed the cupcakes but I'm not really a cupcake person. I'm hoping to try the cookies next time. We purchased a six pack of cupcakes and a few cookies. The cookies we ate on the way home. They were ok, but not great. The $1 sugar cookie for a Yelp check-in at GC lured me in. When we finally found this cute little bakery shop located within the Village Gate, I proceeded to check-in so I could redeem my offer. I was ready to Get Caked, but I was about to Get Faked. I wanted that $1 sugar cookie but unfortunately they were all out. So, I asked for a substitute for the sugar cookie check-in offer. A reasonable request, I thought, since I'm just asking to pay $1 for a different cookie. I'm pretty sure that a sugar cookie substitute shouldn't cost much more than $1 or so. That's when I learned that the offer expired "a long time ago." And, furthermore no, I could not get a substitute cookie. Do not pass go, do not collect a sugar cookie substitute, proceed to check-in offer jail. Sure enough, I noticed after checking in that the offer was only valid for a single day in 2013. Okay, you got me. Yes, there is a date listed before checking in but no, that's not just the beginning date of the promo. Apparently, after checking in you learn that 12/14/2013 is the beginning *and* the end of the $1 sugar cookie promo. The alpha and the omega of the $1 sugar cookie. The first and last date of availability for the check-in offer. Maybe it's time to take that "check-in offer" off the Yelp business page? I recovered from my sugar cookie loss and then decided to purchase some cookies anyway. We selected several different kinds, cut them into bite-sized pieces, and shared them with a group of 7 or so. After sampling, I decided that I would probably forgive GC for the expired check-in offer and make a return trip just for the molasses. The perfectly baked molasses cookie was slightly crisp on the outside but thick, soft and chewy on the inside. Great texture and thickness. Just enough sweetness. It was heavenly. My favorite. The gluten free blueberry oatmeal seemed to be the group favorite. Soft and chewy with just a hint of blueberry. The red velvet cookie was okay. One person in our group really liked it but no one raved over it. It's a beautiful red color but methinks red velvet should have a little cream cheese frosting, even if it is only a cookie and not a cake. We tried two different chocolate chip cookies. The gluten free was crisper but a little sweeter than the regular chocolate chip. Both tasty but I was really wishing we had picked up a few more molasses instead. Overall, GC is a cute local bakery with some very tasty cookies. If I'm in the area again, I may swing by for some molasses cookies and perhaps try a cupcake or two. Get Caked is a cool bakery. They have a variety of vegan and dairy desserts. Reviews for Get Caked are all over the map. I think this is a result of a couple of key things... #1 VEGAN: The one thing that makes this bakery unique is that it has many vegan desserts. How awesome is that? Unfortunately, (let's be honest here) those who aren't vegan may find that their taste buds may not quite welcome the taste of some of the vegan items. #2 DESSERTS: The variety is small. What you order here is hit or miss. If we would have only ordered one or two things, we certainly wouldn't have returned. We tried a variety of their cupcakes and a half dozen cookies. So if this is your first time going, make sure you get plenty to try. Luckily, I really liked their peanut butter cookies, which happened to be vegan, and were probably the best peanut butter cookies that I've ever had. It's Delightful, It's Delectable, It's De-lovely! What a CUTE little place!! My husband and I had stopped in next door on a search for baseball cards, and as we walked in I saw that Get Caked was right there! I suggested we get some cupcakes for his birthday, and he was totally down with that! I have to say, it is great/surprising/wonderful that a bakery is open so late on a Saturday. 10pm? It seems unheard of in the bakery world (or at least the bakeries I'm familiar with), but it is awesome. We were in after 4, and there were still plenty of cupcakes out, and it looked like the baker was whipping up something else at the time! We ordered some raspberry lemonade cookies. HEAVENLY.
