For over a year, the screen had to be opened where you wanted it before you turned it on because if you moved the machine virtually at all and the screen jiggled it would lock up, necessitating a restart. Then, suddenly, it refused to boot up in any screen position. I brought it to PC Werx. The gentleman who came out to look at it plugged in a separate monitor and talked with me about his concerns and let me make the decision to not invest any more money in this one because the repair could easily be more expensive than the residual value of the machine. When he asked me if there was information on it that I needed to keep, that was a no, so, there was no urgent need to do anything with it. He mentioned a retailer that he has had good experience with and that happened to be where I buy virtually all computer related hardware, we shook hands and he said thank you. I mean, I'm sure he could have repaired my machine, but he gently let me know his suggestion is to spend my money on something that I'd get better service out of rather than into the one I've worn out.

My first thought was to go to the Geek Squad at Best Buy. Talking to coworkers, they recommended instead that I go to a mom and pop local place, so I started searching nearby. I found these guys within 3m of me and contacted them about details of what may be involved. I dropped off my baby, trusting their expertise to diagnose and fix the issue since I use this PC for gaming, personal business and some work. I received a call a day later as promised saying that they found the issue and to fix it they need to replace the drive. I asked about specifics of the replacement drive to compare it to a high performance drive I had just recently purchased. Mine was better, so I dropped it off with them shortly after their call to use in the rebuild. They said it would be a day for them to complete the work. I showed up the next day and my PC was ready to go as promised. Total bill was $85 to diagnose, replace drive and install Win 11 since Win 10 is about to go out of support. I shared my very positive experience with my coworkers just in case they need work done in the future.
