The building's thoughtful design really sets the tone for a meaningful visit. They've done an outstanding job sharing the layered stories of the Battle of Gettysburg--why it happened, how it unfolded, and its lasting impact on our nation. Their storytelling truly honors the sacrifices made, weaving history into every exhibit. Staff were exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable. The interactive displays were a highlight--my kids especially loved the miniature cannon where they could "pull the trigger," and the realistic cannon shells you could actually lift to feel their weight. Super engaging! And please, Don't skip the Cyclorama. This massive 360° painting weighs a staggering 8 tons--4 tons of canvas and 4 tons of paint--and it's presented so vividly you feel like you're standing there in the middle of the battlefield. In short, the Gettysburg Museum and Visitor Center delivers history with clarity, compassion, and creativity. A truly unforgettable visit -- 5 stars all the way!

Also, they are prepared to handle bus loads of people at a time - these guys are pros! Fun fact: Only 5% of people pass the Gettysburg battlefield guide test -- these guys know their stuff! We went in our own one time, and went back with a guide and it was a way better experience. Highly recommend going with a proper guide to really understand Gettysburg!

Yelp disappointed me by removing my review despite me detailing my experience. It may have changed in the last 5 years, but the fact the business thinks it's okay to send rude messages about a years old review would make me discourage people from visiting and will report my findings from my personal expo as I see fit.

Admission is very inexpensive and this family-operated museum is incredibly impressive! Having had our share of Civil War history for two straight days, we chose to start with the lower level WW1 & WW2 exhibits. I was absolutely blown away by the volume of incredible artifacts the museum possesses! MacAuthur's pipes & aviators. Jimmy Stewart's uniform. World War 1 trench art made form spent artillery casings. A real "blue max", the exhibit is incredibly rich! The grandfather of the young man operating the museum these days collected as many WW2 artifacts as he could while growing up during/after the war, eventually serving in Korea himself, and opening this museum about 1963. After spending about 45-minutes on the lower level, we took in the Civil War exhibit on the top level. I was struck most by collection of Civil War reunion ribbons from the late 19th century. I hadn't seen these artifacts before. I would say this is a "must visit" destination for any serious military history buff. You will be impressed. Not your standard government-operated museum, but has an incredible and unique collection.

After hearing that the location played a major part of the battle at Gettysburg, it was interesting to visit and tour the site. Located on a small hill viewing the village and surrounding farmland, it is easy to tell that the sharpshooters had a great view of the armies as they passed through. The building has four floors and a cupola that was a great lookout for the Confederate Army. There is a parking lot located behind the museum, as well as one across the street farther away from the entrance located in the back. We visited in June, well before the high summer season for tourists, and it was sparsely attended. The receptionist warned me about a malfunctioning elevator - making my visit more difficult due to the stairs I needed to descend. Hope it works when you visit! Narration in the rooms was all right, but the hallway narration was hard to hear and difficult to match up with the display. I was expecting much more content on the hospital and care of the wounded than just one floor. If we didn't have a ticket for this already included in our purchase I would have been happy with the official NPS tours. Not sure I would recommend.

I won't ruin the story of how in case you opt to go on the tour. The beginning of the tour made me feel very unwelcome like I was being scolded like a young child. I understand that there are rules but the way she discussed the rules made me afraid to breathe the wrong way. Her demeanor kicked the tour off to a lousy start. "Don't touch anything and I'll be watching"- like really?? Then our guide made a big deal that she would refuse to answer any questions on ghosts or if the house was haunted. (Yeah of course because they want to sell you the Jennie Wade ghost tour). I thought that was ridiculous. There were other "rules" too. The home was in good condition. The gift store was nice and I liked the tour and the history. I felt like the tour guide was rushing and speaking too fast. I was disappointed because most of the stuff in the house was not original such as the wallpaper, or the artifacts. Supposedly they are antiques but weren't owned by The Wades. Teetering on 2-3 Stars
