Lots to do at Gettysburg Campground! We stayed over a short weekend and picked this campground over others purely based on the Yelp reviews. Having driven by some of the other campgrounds since arriving, I think this one truly is the best one. In addition to being right next to the Gettysburg battlefield, there are tons of activities to keep you busy at the campground - swimming pool, put-put golf, shuffle board, horseshoes, hiking, and peddle cars are just a few. No need to bring your own equipment, either. You can check out what you need at the main office, free of charge. He staff is very friendly and helpful. I had some tire issues, and they did everything they could to help out. Every encounter was positive. There are two drawbacks which keep me from rating this 5 stars. First, the campsites are very close together, especially if you stay in the "sun deck" area. You can almost here the person in the next camper over breathing. Next, the WiFi. When you check in, you're given 2 device-specific WiFi logins. Once you log in, you can only use the device you logged in with. For a family of 4 with multiple devices, this can create some issues. For some, it's no big deal. All-in-all, our stay was a positive experience. It's a good choice for a stay in Gettysburg.

Great campground near Gettysburg National Park. The sites are shaded and it is very quiet during the week. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Some of the sites have some close trees but we managed just fine with our 29' trailer and truck. Good spacing on sites. No sewer in the part we stayed in but the RV dump was very convenient.

Loved this place! I am so glad we chose this campground over the others in the area because our tent site was right on a creek - how cute is that? There are plenty of sites with water and electricity as well, the roads are a bit narrow but what do you expect. I love that the speed limit at this place is 6 1/2 mph - I mean how does one even drive at that rate? It just lends to the charm of this adorable campground. My only complaint is that the pool closes for the season after Labor Day and we all know that the Northeast does not cool down on September 1st just because we say so - we visited the weekend after Labor Day and it was super hot - we all brought our bathing suits but didn't have a chance to use them - maybe next time! The campground is equipped with a playground (with an old school merry go-round - love it!), miniature golf, a general store with prices that are better than Walmart's and Gettysburg souvenirs. This is a must stay if you are wanting to camp near Gettysburg - they even have cabins to rent which we may check out the next time we are in town!! And their website is easy to navigate unlike other sites...so check them out!

My favorite site, in my favorite campground. Another bike week past and already looking towards coming back.

I will begin by saying that this campground is awesome!! Great staff, clean and quiet park will friendly guest. We go here once a year for bike week, and it's always a fantastic experience. John remembers us from year to year, and makes it a point to stop by the camp and make sure all is good. Now the down side...and this doesn't effect 99.5 percent of the campers out there, but it does a few of us. There are no accommodations for those of us that have some form of mobility issues. I'm an above knee amputee, and this year I met four other amputees at the campground. I have a full bathroom in my motorhome, but it's small. It would be nice to have a roll in shower with a heavy duty bench seat. We're all not featherweights after all. LoL There is a lift to assist someone in and out of the pool if needed, but no place to shower afterwards. I don't believe that it's an unreasonable request to have an ADA bathroom.

Cunningham Falls State Park - Every table has a grill

A bit of a mixed bag for me at Cunningham Falls…read more.. I was excited to find a listing of parks that supposedly had wheelchair accessible trails. I've never been to Cunningham Falls before and the idea of seeing a waterfall seemed lovely. However, the accessible boardwalk has strips on pretty much everything board which made me feel like I was riding a very angry horse. Each bump shot pain up my spine. I'm writing this a day later and I still hurt, and I think I'm a pretty tough chick... and the view of the falls was mostly blocked and not worth the actual pain. The Falls is more like a small stream of water that splashes down some rocks. It's a soothing noise but I was expecting something more grandiose... I suppose I could blame climate change. Most of the old stream beds are dry. We also checked out the "south beach" which I enjoyed. There's plenty of pavement, and packed gravel. I couldn't get close to the water, but that's okay because it was a sunny day and I prefer to stick to the shade. I was impressed by the fact that every picnic table has a grill nearby. If I lived closer I'd like to think I'd come to the south beach often, hide in the trees near the river, grill something delicious... but I was a several hours long trip from Dundalk, so it's unlikely that I'll return. It was a nice day-trip though. I don't regret going.

My hubby and I wanted to do a shakedown with our camper as we have many trips on the calendar…read morescheduled for this season not to mention just get away for a few days. We've been to a number of KOA's and Yogi's over the years, so in 2020, I joined the KOA rewards as we will be hitting the road here in the next few years to enjoy our retirement. At the moment, we mostly camp in state parks, so we really don't need a whole lot. I took a chance and booked a premium patio site because the forecast was calling for rain and I didn't want to have to dry my stuff out as we live in a condo and keep our camper at an indoor storage facility. We were really excited to try this concept out since we were thinking if we met up with friends it would be neat to have seating and so forth. We were showed to our site by an employee as we couldn't park our camper at the entrance as there was a camper already checking in. We were told to park our camper and then when we were done, to check in at the store. So this patio site we are shown to which has been described as a table, chairs and a glider had three chairs on it only. No glider, no table. These sites come with a premium price which is a bit more than just a normal site. We definitely expected a table, which I was told would be provided on Saturday. The site next to us was never occupied and had a table and glider....we would have been so happy for the table at our site, but we didn't want to move furniture. So the night was fairly nice on Friday even though overcast....we ate in our trailer which was not the plan at all and not we signed up for. Even if this is a shakedown camp, we haven't really been able to enjoy the outdoors the whole winter! We did take our Solo Stove out and burn some wood after dinner along with make some S'mores. At least we had the chairs to sit in. I used the restroom twice there as we do have a camper with a bathroom. It was clean, however there was no soap in the compartment I was in. When I walked up there before leaving the campground, the compartment I went in that time had soap, but nothing to dry your hands. The staff was nice, but I didn't get the feeling that they thought that when you pay for the extras that there should be an expectation of it, especially when I brought up no table at check in, because I definitely mentioned that I had paid for the more expensive site. What I was told is they were extremely busy and while I do I understand busy because I work too, I have everything ready to go when it needs to be, especially if there are some elements that should be taken care of. I think there really should have been a priority on sites that were going to be used that weekend, especially when the one next to us was empty the whole time we were there and had a table which is really what we wanted.....we didn't care what kind, we just wanted to dine outside. Sites I feel are a bit tight, but I can't lie, I'm spoiled by the state parks. Lot of bang for your buck and the PA ones have amenities more so than where we come from in Maryland, to include ones with full hookups. There are a few farms close by which was nice and allowed us to get some fresh eggs to take home with us....very happy about that! There is also a winery that we have been to and that would be a nice outing if you are nearby. WiFi was amazing! We were able to stream a movie during a rainstorm Saturday evening. This was a plus. Our T-Mobile was not as strong to use our phone data. I really DO like supporting small family business and while this KOA is a franchise, they are also a family working a business. With that said though, when we pay for something, there is an expectation of getting it, especially when there is an additional cost. These are being billed on KOA's site as premium (and they are!), so for the money both of us felt rather slighted. A table at a commercial or state park site is a no brainer....we've had one at every park we have been to. I could have just booked a regular site and saved a bit of cash. We won't rule this one out again in the future, but for now the rest of our trips are mapped out. Maybe we will try again.

I stopped by on a warm, sunny October Sunday morning while in the area for the National Apple Harvest Festival (about 30 minutes away), and somehow had the whole place to myself. It was so peaceful--just the sound of leaves rustling in the breeze and the occasional thud of acorns falling from the trees. The walk in is short and easy--basically a flat stroll past a couple of informational signs to reach the boulder outcropping. From there, the fun begins! Hammonds Rocks is about 400 feet long, with massive stone formations to climb, wander, and explore. I spent about 45 minutes hopping from stone to stone, taking photos, and checking out different angles of the formations. Even without climbing, there are plenty of spots to enjoy the view, though the tall trees do block some of it. Still, with the leaves just starting to turn to their fall colors, it was absolutely beautiful. The info signs are worth a pause, too--they really put things into perspective. One noted that when the sediments making up these rocks were deposited, the spot where I was standing was on the shore of a great ocean...530-600 MILLION years ago. Wild. Absolutely mind blowing! As for access: don't panic when Google Maps tells you the next few miles are unpaved. The gravel road is manageable if you take it slow and keep an eye out for some monster ruts. (Speaking from experience: this 40-something woman in her beloved Alfa Romeo made it just fine.) Just don't attempt in winter without knowing what you're getting into--the roads aren't maintained in snow or ice. Overall, Hammonds Rocks is an easy, low-effort, high-reward stop. Whether you're climbing, photographing, or just taking in the history and scenery, it's a great way to spend part of your day in Michaux.
