If Zero Stars was an option, that would be my rating. Stayed for 3 days with another family and this was our experience that has made us never want to return and warn others not to even check it out. Site C-3 had a sewer drain failure of massive proportions. A clogged drain sent a piss-n-shit fountain two feet into the air and flooded the site. A waterfall of human waste poured down the hillside into site C-4 and beyond. The sight and smell were what you can imagine, absolutely horrible. Management was contacted immediately but no one arrived on scene for 30 mins. Meanwhile the sewage continued to flow. We were allowed to move sites, so nice not to have to remain in a field of used toilet paper and poop, but no other discount provided for time lost of my vacation or the hardship endured. When we left the next day (24 hours later) the mess was still there, untouched by the team at Merry Meadows. Hopefully no one was seriously made ill by the possible contact of unknown pathogens distributed on the sites. It is unheard of in a consumer business, not to try and appease the customer. Especially one that had to deal with this shit!

Some of the sites seemed a little close, but they tried to keep a little vegetation between them.

Something that stood out was the in-house food service. Feeding over 700 people 2 meals a day is not trivial and they did a great job. Food was always available on time (buffet style) and there were plenty of healthy options, including fruit, salad, and so on. The food team seemed to take pride in their work. Bathrooms: In good condition and functional. This is a campground with rustic cabins, so expectations are admittedly low, but they exceeded them.

Stayed in cabin 202 for a Fri - Sun and on our last morning we found a bed bug on our clothing…read more While they gave a refund it does not come close to cover the time and energy of remediating all of our clothing, sheets, and blankets. We also had to throw out items that could not be cleaned properly and now have to replace them (pillows, shoes, etc). My husband has 23 bites over the course of 2 nights. They burn and itch very badly. I truly hope this was a hiccup for them and they go through correct methods of having the cabin treated properly. UPDATE: A recount of the bites - my husband has 31 bites so far. The remediation of all of our items is exhausting. All the blankets, clothing, suit cases, all the other items we used in the cabin needs to be cleaned. We had to throw out our shoes because they shrunk in the dryer. Spent $$$ replacing shoes for a family for 4. Pillows are not cheap to replace either. I bought a new corset at the renfest this weekend that I'm hoping doesn't get ruined when it goes through the dryer. That too was expensive. So if you're looking to have to spend a bunch of extra money to replace items you didn't want to replace in the first place - I recommend staying here.

That being said, we really love this campground, and I wanted to give them a well-deserved shout-out. We first visited in early November and liked it so much that we went back two weeks later. I was honestly surprised by some reviews claiming the owners are money-hungry or rip people off, because that was the complete opposite of our experience. We were originally supposed to stay there in October, but we had an accident that damaged our truck on the day of arrival. I called the resort to cancel and even told them I'd understand if they still needed to charge me due to the short notice. Instead, they gave us a credit for our next stay, which was wonderful and much appreciated. If you're looking for a campground loaded with frills, this isn't it. What you do get are beautiful sites, including the pull-throughs we stayed in that offer direct views of the Chesapeake Bay and some amazing sunsets. Sites include electric and water but no sewer; however, they provide septic carts and several dump stations, similar to many state parks. They also have fire rings and picnic tables, which should be standard everywhere in my opinion. Other than that, it's simply a quiet, relaxed, and scenic campground. My only wish is that WiFi were free, since it is at many other campgrounds. We found the staff to be very friendly and accommodating. The camp store has a solid selection of necessities, and the prices were not unreasonable. Given its proximity to Rock Hall (which is an amazing little town), Chestertown, and the Bay, this is definitely going to be one of our regular camping spots. We're already planning several trips for next year.

This would be a 5 star review for sure if the WiFi coverage was better, if there was sewer at the sites, if the bathrooms were open. They made it clear that these things were not included, so it was not a surprise and they do have portable restrooms around. One more portable in the middle of the B-site area would be good. Overall this place is great and we will be returning. Already booked as a matter of fact :)

The trails are relatively easy but fun to explore and you can go shorter or longer distances depending how much time you have. We enjoy visiting for a change of pace from the Pennsylvania State Parks because while the trails aren't extremely rugged or long, they're fun and the nature center has interesting displays and creatures to visit.
