    Angela S.

Food was amazing BUT there is one issue, they give you too much food it took me three days to finish it. Will definitely go back.

Super Soul Bowl with greens, yams, mac and cheese and cornbread dressing. Fried wings on the left.

They will soon be expanding the space to include a bar and more tables. I am from California, so I look forward to see what they do to the place when I get back. I ordered the Etoufee Egg Rolls, Wings, and Jambalaya. My cousin ordered a burger, and his son ordered the Mac and cheese. OMG - the egg rolls were incredible. It came with a roumalade that I think they need to bottle up and sell. It's the kinda sauce you'd want to put on everything. I liked the texture and flavor of the wrap and omg the flavors tasted like they were wrapped in love. Chloe, the owner, told us that the jambalaya ones are even better. I was already ordering the jambalaya so I opted for the etouffee to get a wider variety of flavors. I ordered the wings with the lemon pepper and buffalo seasoning. The combo was a little salty, but good. That roumalade with it was bombacious! The jambalaya won my heart. It gave me the warm fuzzies because it felt like a beautiful story unfolded with every bite. So many flavors to take your tastebuds on an incredible journey. Love that the food is cooked in beef tallow. You can taste it in the fries. The crispiness and omg - I miss the days before people cooked with vegetable oil. Looking forward to the day when I can come back again. PS- please bottle up that roumalade and sell it!

I don't think I've ever had a better one. The 1/2 order of jambalaya also excellent and properly spiced. My grandson enjoyed his chicken strips and fries. I also liked my Cajun fries and Jamaican cola. I look forward to returning here again soon to try some other tasty options on their menu, including red beans and rice, collard greens, oxtail, etc. The owners were very nice and the food was ready for pickup right on time. I will be back.

My go-to plates were the fried catfish and the jerk chicken, both packed with flavor and cooked to perfection every time. The collard greens and potato salad were absolutely on point--true comfort food done right. Everything on the menu just hits. What really made this place special though was the people. After a few visits, they started calling me "New York," and from that point on, it felt like family every time I walked in. The owners are incredibly welcoming and genuinely appreciate their customers. One of my favorite moments was being introduced to their strawberry banana pudding. I'll be honest--I was hesitant at first because I'm not big on banana flavor, especially when it tastes artificial. But this? Completely different. It made me a believer. So much so that now I even make my own from scratch at home. That's how good it was. It's a small, no-frills spot with just a couple of stools at a bar-style table--no real seating--but honestly, that doesn't matter. When the food is this good and the people are this real, you don't need anything fancy. Whether you're grabbing food on the go or standing there enjoying every bite, it's an experience. Kelly's Soul Kitchen isn't just a place to eat--it's a place you feel.

We are both big fans of rib tips and haven't found a place that compares to Stevie B's in Wicker Park that closed years ago (RIP lol) and decided to check this place out. We shared the rib tip platter and it came with Mac n cheese, sweet potatoes, cornbread, and we ordered an additional side of collard greens. Everything was about $22 and the portion for the price was pretty good. The rib tips were decent - nice flavor, soft but could have been more "falling off the bone" status lol. The sides were also pretty good. Decent food, nice portion, good price. The restaurant is small. Hubby was the one that placed the to go order while I stayed in the car. He said not really a place to dine but more of a carry out spot instead. Our order came out pretty fast - about 10 minutes.

The soul rolls are some of the best. I appreciate that they did not put a dusting of powdered sugar on them, although they did have a sugar dipping sauce on the side. The fried catfish was divine. The crust was out of this world. My hat goes off for the collard greens that were seasoned nicely and the sweet potatoes that weren't overly sugary. I noticed they stopped putting in-house dining meals in to-go containers. The sides were in small containers, but hot food in the clear plastic containers before used to make dining in-house feel rushed. They really stepped up their game.

Yes, they are trying for southern charm but the basics cannot be overlooked. The additional charges for things is ridiculous. When I walked in the door, it wasn't a hello, I was greated with do you know our polices. See yellow sign in photos. Charges, for evrything. Look at the menu, extra charges for small items. I tried to order the chicken dinner and was told they do not cook it on Sundays. Only wings on Sunday? WHAT? Isn't Sundays when people come for a family dinner? The service level was nice at the table, so I had no problem with the mandatory 18% added to the bill. She was polite and nice and earned her tip. I actually gave her additional money. The ambiance is noisey. Be prepared to talk little louder than normal. The activity level makes it noisey. I've tried this place twice, I think that's a wrap. No more.

We get there and there is a cute young girl who greets us with an apron and chef's hat on. She seats us and takes our order - she was our waitress which surprised us. I ordered a cup of chicken noodle soup to have before my meal. I'm glad I got a cup and not a bowl. The cup was only half full. The soup was lacking flavor so I added pepper. The woman who is GrannyMa delivered the soup. She didn't speak to us or anything the entire time while we were there which didn't feel too nice. They were sold out of the beef liver, beef shortribs and sweet potatoes. We ordered the fried chicken (menu states it takes 20-25 minutes for the chicken) and the salmon croquettes. Each dinner comes with 2 sides each so we got the macaroni and cheese, green beans, dressing and mostaccioli (slight extra charge for the mostaccioli). Fried chicken was crispy and delicious! Seasoned well. The croquettes were good also - they give you two big patties in the dinner. We weren't impressed with the green beans as you can tell they came out of a can. The dressing was only okay. The mac and cheese was pretty good but the best side was the mostaccioli - it had a layer of cheese on top and was really yummy. I wish I had gotten that as a meal, it was that good and highly recommend it. For dessert I got the peach cobbler sundae which is peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream on top. The cobbler sauce was very thin. I like cobbler that has alot of flaky crust but this didn't have that but it still was good enough to eat the whole thing. The young girl brought us our bill. The prices are so reasonable for what you get. Our bill was only $62 with tax for all of what we had. The place is bright with warm colors inside. We conversated with the son-in-law to GrannyMa's, he was very nice and personable. Although the young girl was sweet, I felt some kind of way of her being our waitress because clearly she is underage to be working. We were told they have a Sunday brunch from 11-3 that includes a DJ. To my friend and I, the food overall was either hit or miss. One review mention about GrannyMa engaging them in conversation - she never came over to our table except to drop off the soup and she is the owner of the restaurant. Not a good way in customer service if you ask me. Overall, okay.

We visited on a Sunday afternoon and found the restaurant virtually empty. There seemed to be a steady flow of takeout pickups, but there wasn't anyone dining in, so we had the entire place to ourselves. Our waitress was a young girl who was pleasant and friendly. My sister and I both had the catfish. I ordered the greens and mac & cheese while she had the dressing and greens. We both loved the mac & cheese. My sister kept stealing bites of it off my plate! Lol She enjoyed the dressing as well. Neither of us liked the greens, though. I believe they were turnips, and we prefer collards. We also didn't care for the Johnny cakes. I prefer mine a little sweeter. The catfish was good but could've had more flavor. My brother had the fried chicken, and his mom had the salmon croquettes. All three of them LOVED the croquettes! I didn't have any, but they were definitely a fan favorite! My brother loved the chicken and sweet potatoes. I had the brownie for dessert, which I didn't care for. My sister didn't like it either. It was dry and was just okay taste-wise. The restaurant is clean and comfortable. Since we were the only ones dining in, it was really quiet and relaxing. We sat at one of the large tables, but there are also comfortable benches along the wall and window. The service was excellent and you can tell that the family takes pride in going the extra mile. Overall, the experience was pleasant, and I'd go back.
