I ordered 2 meals through Instacart. I have NEVER been nor ordered from them. My delivery driver Yesenia was right on time. I ordered fried chicken, which was piping hot! I have never ordered delivered food that was piping hot before. I was shocked The pork chop dinner was so tender. You could cut it with a butter knife if you wanted to. The mac and cheese is very cheesy. I ordered dressing and it reminded me of when my mother made dressing. Really good food. I would from Cracker Barrel and I would regret it. This was my first visit not realizing they were closing in an hour I can half understand the neglected buffet that was picked over and some items had been setting awhile. We chose to stay and ordered from the menu. The cashier/staff staff was polite and we were not rushed. The catfish was freshly cooked to perfection not to salty. The collards and mac was good. I'm not an expert but I think the sides were home made. The only downside was having my meal served in a to go container. Maybe that happened since they were closing soon. All in all the experience was good. I want to give D&K give stars but the buffet was a turn off had they not had a menu we were going to leave. Went to D & K soul food in Gary, IN and the food was . How you cook soul food and one can smell it through the containers. I had sweet potato's that tasted like the pie. The mac n cheese didn't have enough cheese. The grilled catfish was under cooked. The smothered turkey chops was greasy. The only thing that was ok was the Johnny Cake. Now my stomach hurts. Super great salads, soul rolls, soul bowls etc. the only thing that sucks is that they run out of stuff every evening. Also, their seafood boil weekends are also gone but we understand it's hard to get items in the pandemic supply chain of 2021. It was so good! The smoothies also rock. When one of our favorite local lunch spots closed, we thought this was worth a try for a nice family-friendly take-out meal after a little hike through the dunes. It really hit the spot. The salads are fresh and satisfying and the proteins seem to be freshly grilled (the serving of salmon on the salmon greek salad was especially generous and tasty). And while they don't have a kids menu, they were happy to provide a portion of grilled chicken and a large fruit cup, which is pretty much the perfect kids meal in my book anyway. I usually don't take any energy to comment on nonsense but considering this guy Ron is going on social media sites trying to trash our business I feel a need too. @Ron B I've hired young people from the community and my 16 year old cashier asked him very kindly if he wanted a dessert as she is trained he yelled "is this not enough" and vowed to tell all his friends slammed our glass door leaving and almost fell my huspand even asked him if there was an issue we could make better. Love the food and the staff here. They are courteous and friendly. They do a great job with their food, my favorite is the salmon salad! Highly recommend ordering here and going to one of the national park's picnic areas at the Douglas Center just 3 blocks away, or one of the beaches like Lake Street Beach just a few minutes away. Stopped in for the first time for lunch today, and it was outstanding. Kendall was very helpful in my menu selection, and even threw in a peach cobbler. I had the soul bowl with cornbread dressing, collard and turnip greens, and a phenomenally good piece of catfish. It was so good I got takeout orders for my parents for dinner. I ordered two soul bowls and this was by far the worst experience I've had at this place. It seems as if the quality care isn't there. I did not receive my sauces on the side (that really makes the food more enjoyable) and the consistency of the parmesan mashed potatoes were extremely watery and bland. I was going to call the place but I feared nothing would be done about the unsatisfactory execution of this meal. With this being Black owned I really hope they step their game up with providing great food to those in NWI. I was really disappointed because this is the only that is really good from the menu (Jerk salmon, mashed potatoes, and corn). Everything else I've tried was very bland from the wraps to the fried chicken. Please D&K do better! read more

I received an email from grubhub (never use grubhub, I know) informing me my lunch order was cancelled. When I called grubhub they said there were issues. They couldn't explain issues. I love this place when it first was open, they were very professional and very friendly atmosphere delicious salads and food. I've tried it all. I'm giving it a 2 star because. One day a month ago I tried to order by phone and the lady who took my order was very rude. I could tell it wasn't owner. I was placing an order for me and my coworker. The lady asked me what kind of wrap spinach/wheat, bc I normally get Spinach I didn't know this seafood wrap had the option of Wheat wrap, so I asked to hold a second while I asked. She forgot to put me on mute and proceeded to say "see this is what I'm talking about they calling but they don't even have the order ready".
