    Broken door from bedroom area

I'll start off by saying my husband and I are members and we absolutely LOVE to camp. This is both a review of Ghost Mountain Ranch AND the cabin that we recently stayed in. We've been to this specific CRA location quite a few times and each time we have a blast. I will start off by saying the location is the best part. What made us become members was the overall location and beauty to this place! We fell in love instantly with the huge redwood trees, walking trails and the fact we can explore and adventure with our dogs. (Which I may mention, they do have a leash rule, but there is a dog park with amenities for them to run around and play/ potty/ drink at. We keep to ourselves and own a trailer so we don't usually use/have a need for the cabins or other amenities, but it is nice to have the option for when we bring family. There is unfortunately a few things I'd like to gripe about- 1. Trying to get ahold of this campground is a nightmare, I have called on multiple occasions for small questions and can never get an employee. Although we've never personally had an issue with staff here, we have seen on multiple occasions staff rolling eyes to guests and not having the friendliest attitude. I will say- if my husband and I weren't on board with their selling pitch I could see where they would start to get pushy as mentioned in some other reviews... I think better selling tactics should be practiced and make guests feel they're not $$$ and actually feel appreciated for more than just a paycheck. Moving forward; the Ghost Town is super cool, but wish it had more to do besides the saloon... OH! They only accept cash for the café and ice cream parlor and if you have to use your card they will make you go to the front to pay at the register which can be frustrating if you do not know this ahead of time. I will mention the staff at the café are understaffed. The lady who takes orders and does the serving on occasion seems constantly frazzled and I have witnessed her and the cook bickering on multiple occasions. (Yikes!). Back to the cabins- recently I stayed in one for the weekend and let me tell you... finding information on ANY of the cabins was impossible. I couldn't find anything I even YouTubed to see if anyone had posted videos on them. When I called to reserve I got 'well it sleeps 4 but you can fit 6'. Most of these cabins are outdated and need a rehab inside and out. (It is a tad funny the one they show you for your walkthrough to be a potential buyer for the timeshare is completely redone.) The one cabin we stayed in on the other hand, was quite disappointing. (For as much as members pay to be timeshare holders, it's sad that the amenities don't reflect it) **Here is some info regarding (Cabin #1) 1. Outdated but will do for those that are not picky and just need a place to stay in. 2. There is a main bedroom with a door to close off from the rest of the cabin. In main hall there are twin bunks (with a thin plastic mattress if you could even call it that) as well as futon that folds out I would recommend a shorter adult or child to sleep here if possible. 3. BRING TOWELS FOR SHOWERING AND BEDDING FOR BEDS/ FUTON. 4. There ARE some utensils to use such as; glassware, some coffee cups, bowls and silverware. There is a fridge, microwave and a toaster. 5. Although they say the cabins are a certain amount of $$ a night - bring extra they tax the rate! There were two doors to our cabin, one that led from the bedroom and one that was from the living room which was a slider. We only chose to use the slider because the other door was completely broken maybe an animal tried to get in, but it's definitely broken and needs to be replaced. Hinges were basically off when opening (I didn't get pictures of it while it was opened because I panicked thinking we wouldn't have a door all weekend.) We originally and had to prop it back into place and pull hard to lock door. I wasn't very happy considering we had our belongings in there and you can never be sure anywhere you go.

Had a nice little getaway. One tip I can give you is bring cash they have great food and ice cream for purchase you can use your debit card but you have to walk back to front gate. I think the only thing missing is hot tub. Overall we really enjoyed our time can wait to go back. And I won't forget my cash :)

Children's catch and release bass fishing pond.

The resort was rustic but clean. Yes, although the roads within the resort are nicely pave , the sites are relatively level with mainly dirt and some gravel. But I expected a mountain camping experience with the whole Wild West feel. The restrooms were clean. The staff was friendly. We had great weather and enjoyed walking around the resort. The dog park was clean, but not ideal. My spoiled dog likes grass over gravel. The pond and fountain was nice and lit up at night. The heated pool and surrounding area was very well maintained. Some reviews I read prior to our visit worried me, but I was pleasantly surprised with the friendly staff and the overall cleanliness. I'm looking forward to our next trip to Ghost Mountain.

Ask the Community - Ghost Mountain Ranch

Is there full RV hook ups?

Hi David, Ghost Mountain has water and electric at its sites. There are dump stations within the park as well as a honey wagon service during the week. If you would like to book a stay with us please call 866-217-8111.

    Do they have fire pits?

No. You can have a propane fire pit, but they don’t allow you to burn wood fires. They do have bbq pits.

    Are there cabins here?

    Yes!

This was such a great campground for families and people looking to unwind. We booked campsite #43…read morethat had tons of extra space, a large driveway big enough for 3-cars, close to showers and bathrooms. There were six of us with 3 tents, but we could have easily fit three more tents. There were multiple bathrooms nearby, plenty of water spigots, and showers nearby. The showers are pretty expensive; $4.00 will only get 3-minutes of shower time and it only takes quarters. This campsite is on a peninsula that's technically over a reservoir, not a lake, but it does not feel like reservoir. The body of water itself is huge and the surroundings are gorgeous. My family and I did multiple hikes around the lake and saw all kinds of wildlife like hawks, squirrels, tadpoles, and lots of coyote tracks. One day we went fishing and saw what it looked like bear scratchings at the base of a tree. See my pictures. We even caught a glimpse of a few eagles near our campsite. A handful of spots were blocked off because it was a nesting area for the eagles. Our favorite spot by far was hanging out on Fashoda Beach, which is a man-made beach area. They've removed all the sharp rocks and put in sand and buoys to keep boats out of it. It's essentially like a giant bay that's kids safe for swimming. I am more of "glamper", but I really enjoyed this campsite with all of its rustic features. I could definitely see myself coming back here with my family for annual camping trips, and I highly suggest coming here at the beginning of summer because the weather was perfect with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s. Plus, there weren't many people out here for the summer yet. Did I mention I still had 5G access to my phone, score!

That's what we did, we then later found out that, the spot we had was reserved, we were a little bummed out, we ended up leaving, tried finding a new spot, no luck, we then found a spot on the boat ramp and parking space that specifically said "overnight parking allowed" we asked a host, an older man. He was very nice, he told us we are allowed to pitch tents, we unpacked, every one was tired, and a woman in her 50-60s pretty short with curly grey hair. Pulled up on a golf cart and started yelling, that tents are not allowed, and she proceeded to yell "if you don't move, I will call the ranger here, he will take all your kids, you will all go to jail, and get fined 2000$ per tent. Per adult" she was extremely rude, we tried to reason with her, she was flat out rude, we were leaving, she started throwing in some cuss word, all my kids were crying, we then talked to a few neighboring rv owners who also experienced a similar issue with this old lady, she needs to be investigated, I read a lot of bad reviews about her. Camp ground and lake was awesome and beautiful, it's the fact the hosts don't know how to act

DISPERSED CAMPING: we were planning on dispersed camping but absolutely couldn't find a good spot! We tried different dirt roads according to the official description but gave up. 3. CAMPGROUND: we ended up camping at Stumpy Meadows campground. The host, Dexter, was wonderful. However, the campground is sloped and the campsites are not well designed. Also, the campground may be remote but it isn't quiet. While located in a beautiful forest, it is close to the road and we kept hearing noise of fast driving trucks. Bottom line- next time we drive to a remote lake we'll look for a quieter lake with better camping options.

The bad: Idk why but checkout and checkin are both at 2pm, so the sites aren't being cleaned fully between uses. There was a bit of trash at ours and we almost overlapped with the group there before us. The dumpsters were full the entire time we were there. So many yellow jackets and mosquitos, but that's summer in California near the water for you. The worst, there were several bears that made the rounds scavenging every night. We heard them sniffing around tents, banging around coolers, and people generally letting off foghorns and screaming and dogs barking all night long. The campsite is not equipped for bears. The hosts are doing their best, but this is their first summer with this problem, and they aren't receiving support from fish and wildlife. There are no bear boxes at the campsites and very little signage anywhere alerting people to store all their containers and food out of reach at night. People are also not helping. We talked to one family with their food out and said to pack it up as there were bears out the night before. They said they had been coming to the campground for years and never seen a bear. They didn't pack up their food at night and the bears got it all, and they had to leave the next day. The stupidity was astounding. Overall, I would recommend it except for the bears! Hopefully the government steps up to give the host more support before something serious happens!
