First, I must say this is my first ghost tour so I have nothing else to compare it with. Going in, I didn't know what to expect. Sandy is the tour guide and she's quite the story teller. You can tell sh'e been doing this for some time as she's prepared with a towel in case you want to clean up your seat and off to repel the mosquitoes in Coconut Grove. Sandy points out nuances that she sees and has heard first hand about spirits but you'll see multiple optical illusions and hear several stories from the past. There's an activity where Sandy makes you walk about 300 ft away towards a wall and everybody will observe any changes. Here she will point out changes in color and how the person gets fuzzy as they walk way (well, maybe they are a bit far away) or how some overweight person doesn't appear smaller while they walk away (well, he's larger than the rest of us!!) Let me preface by saying, we found a Groupon for this tour ($28 for two people), which changes my review a bit. Note, at the current rate listed on the tour website ($26 per adult & $17 per child 8-12), this tour is not worth it. The Good: Sandy is a very nice, very pleasant, well spoken woman who seems to have an illustrious career in ghost tours. She knows Coconut Grove very well, and has a passion for her subject matter. She even carried extra bug spray and allowed participants to use it (Pro tip: if you go, bring bug spray). The Not-So-Good: Sandy has real potential as a story teller. However, she's not there yet. Her stories tend to ramble on, and simply aren't that interesting. Rather than focus on historical elements which lead to the current hauntings, she chooses at times to focus on city politics. Her lack of storytelling, paired with her constant insistence on validating her ghost theories by you using your camera to catch "energy", it all begins to wear thin by the end of the night. You stop at 7 or 8 different places, she talks for too long, then you spend 10 minutes taking pictures. She then encourages you to show her what you've captured. Some in our group thought they captured energy on camera. However, look at poorly lit photos with cheap camera phones long enough, and you can see anything. This tour could be just as good as other ghost tours I've taken. However, in it's current form, it's simply not. We even kept our expectations in check, by understanding we would not be "ghost hunting" or entering any of the buildings. Even considering this, it's hard to recommend this tour. Bottom line - if you find a good Groupon price, and are looking for a decent walking tour of Coconut Grove, and are looking for 2.5 hours to throw away (and never get back), then give this a try. If your situation doesn't match any of the above, skip it. read more

Don't waste your time or money. The guide is boring and not very knowledgeable of the area's history. She just wanders around telling you about how some people may have seen a spirit, and there's no backup, validity, or understanding of why there may be hauntings in the different buildings. Stand here. Listen to the tour guide drone on and on with few facts or colorful stories. Stand over here. Look at the rock with a fake rubber skeleton behind it. Blithely mention the graves of Miami's Pioneer families, but never see them. Talk about buildings, but never go in. Stand. They have no office, no trolley, not even a hand-out. This attraction should be shut down by the city because it is a bad representation of Miami tourism. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. There, consider yourself forewarned lol. This lady is a great story teller but after 1/2 and hour you get over it! Over standing over crossing the street and more standing over, oh! Look at this rock! Crap!! All crap!! I bought this as a birthday activity/ gift and I felt bad I wasted my boyfriends time with this scam activity. Read the reviews, they don't lie. You don't cover more than a block and maybe a half radius. Never go in anywhere just stand stand stand! No where remotely scary! I've seen more trees in the Grove on a drunken night! This was the best worst ghost tour ever!!!!! Seriously, it was so horrifically awesome that I left early to get a drink at greenstreet. I wouldn't have even spent $1 on this had I known. Huge scam! How is this lady in business?! Do not waste a penny on this. I asked Sandy, how long is the tour? She said, "the tour is 2 hours but we only cover 1/2 mile". RED FLAG!!!!! After standing in front waiting to move or go in the building we finally walk across the street. I was like omg are we going in? She said "oh no, we wont go in any of the buildings" RED FLAG!!!!! Its just a waste. After 30 mins in i walked off. OMG i not only want my money back but i want my time back. I am hoping i can honestly get this lady out of business. A lot of "extraordinary places" with "negative energy" and not a lot of storytelling or people. Barely gets into the history of the Grove. We walked to the Barnacle and the tour guide said she wasn't going to tell us about the hauntings that go on there, we should just visit the Barnacle ourselves. What do we pay $26 for? read more

No sightings or feelings by anyone in the group. Stops were outside of places...we never got to go in anywhere. Stories were told on the sidewalks of the populated areas in the grove. Not scary. The stories were barely ghostly...more like a historical lesson. read more

I have to admit that I read the reviews of this tour beforehand but decided to do it anyways since there is literally nothing else to do halloween-ish in miami except party and it was close to my house (come on Miami, where are your wagon rides, haunted mazes, scary house tours, etc.?). I went in with REALLY low expectations judging from the reviews but it somehow was still even more terrible than I anticipated. I literally could have done a better job after about 30 minutes of internet research on Coconut Grove. She drones on and on about nothing to do with ghosts or hauntings and never explains why a place might be haunted. A lot of the tour is touching the buildings or walls to "feel the energy" which is ridiculous. She also makes you take pictures of nothing throughout the tour and then examines them for ghosts-- seriously. Like the other reviewers said this tour is over 2 hours and you walk about 3 blocks. A few people walked off the tour at points throughout the evening and she said that "that happens a lot because people get too freaked out"-- OR they realize this tour is terrible and they are wasting their time? At the end she makes you go out to an area of trees in groups and then makes up things she saw while you were standing out there ("your group had a shadowy figure standing with you", "I saw some white ora around the person on the right" etc.). Its almost comical if you weren't paying for it. Someone really needs to step up and give this lady some competition, ANYONE could do a better job with no experience. Terrible. The scariest thing about this tour is definitely that she gets people to pay for this nonsense, and then asks for tips at the end! Ha! read more

Excellent ghostly history lesson on Coconut Grove. Sandy is a great story teller/historian and I learned a lot about the Grove that I didn't know before I took the tour -- even after 23 years of residing in Miami. We didn't conjure a ghost right there "on-demand" but I sure did start thinking a lot more about what an interesting city that I live in and I'm headed back with my camera and some more questions for Sandy. Overall it was a good time with a nice group of people and I'd say go, ask questions, listen and just have a nice night out in the Grove afterward. read more

The ONLY reason I am rating this tour is because of the unprofessional manner in which "Lindsey" conducted herself. Our ghost tour ended up being canceled because the tour guide got stuck in stand-still traffic on the highway due to a fatal accident. Completely out of the control of Ghost Tours. Not the reason for my rating. My party of 4 showed up at 7:00 (30 mins early). We called to confirm location, and were rotold by Lindsey, she was running about an hr late. To kill time, we walked to a restaurant/bar a block away. At 7:20pm, Lindsey said she would be an hr more. Around 7:45pm she asked the person in my party that she was communicating with, if she could head to the destination to let others now what was going on in case they were waiting. We were at a restaurant, we had to wait for our checks. We chugged our drinks and walked to the meeting spot; we arrived at 8:15/20. There were at least 12 people waiting and the situation with the delay and the traffic accident. Everyone was in the loop as to what was going on, in fact, one couple was finishing their call with Lindsey and she was stating to them that she would probably be another hr later (with this news, ever person that was waiting called it a night and would collect their refund or reschedule). Lindsey proceeded to tell the man on the phone that she was disappointed b/c the customer she asked to be at the destination at 8, to wait around for others showing up, and let them know what was going on, let her down. ARE YOU KIDDING ME LINDSEY?!?! IT IS NOT OUR JOB TO DROP WHAT WE ARE DOING TO SAVE YOUR BUSINESS. WE GOT TO THE MEETING PLACE ASAP AND EVERYONE THEIR WAS FULLY AWARE OF THE SITUATION. IF YOU RECEIVED CALLS FROM UPSET CUSTOMERS, IT IS BECAUSE THEY PAID FOR A SERVICE AND DIDNT WANT TO WAIT ALMOST 2 HRS PAST THE SCHEDULED START TIME. WHETHER IN YOUR CONTROL OR NOT, IT IS WHAT IT IS, SOME PEOPLE WILL BE UPSET. HOW DARE YOU COMPLAIN ABOUT AND THEN GET UPSET DIRECTLY WITH THE PAYING CUSTOMER FOR NOT STANDING AT THE MEETING SPOT FOR AT LEAST AN HR AND A HALF TO DO YOUR JOB.
