Eh. We accidentally trusted the word of our hotel concierge and went with this tour before actually researching it. We also made sure to tell her we wanted a walking tour, doh! This is NOT a walking tour, it is a bus tour that takes you to two locations: The yard of the Lighthouse, not actually inside, and the Old Jailhouse. It's so cheesy it hurt. I appreciate the effort but it just wasn't what we were looking for nor did we want to spend money on. It would have been much cooler if we just stayed in the yard of the lighthouse and shut off all our lights. The Jailhouse is just like a museum so there isn't even much of a creepy feeling. They of course have a story to follow at the Jailhouse and the one dude kept getting all the "facts" wrong, are you kidding me? Are you drunk? Back in October 2018, I took my family to see St Augustine and it's historic sites. My hotel concierge recommended to me that we should take a ghost tour and we had a blast! I think our tour guides name was Joseph (older black gentleman) but he was very professional and we could tell he was very good at his job! We came back again this year, but we did not have Joseph as our tour guide. I'm not going to say the tour was bad but it just wasn't the same. 5 stars for joseph! read more

I had no clue it was going to be an over acting kid play of jumping out to scare you and hitting tables for dramatic effects. Wax museum makes no sense other than to waste your time. Stories were over dramatic and at times disrespectful with one side of the trolley hissing and other side popping like we were part of a musical. Ghost tour I think not. "There were only eight..." My mother and I decided to take this ghost tour since we did the one by Ripley's on our last visit. Let me first say that I pride myself in science and do not believe in ghosts. I am a big fan of anything in horror and jump at chances to do anything related, not because I believe in it but because of the entertainment value. My mother loves ghost shows so doing ghost tours in the oldest city seemed like a good deal. We purchased our tickets online because you get it at a discounted rate of 25 dollars. You have a webticket. Make sure you do not click activate or it will not be valid unless you are doing the tour within a half hour. You check in at the welcome center. It says to get there at least 2o minutes early. Maybe it's because it isn't the season or we picked the latest time but we were only half full (including an infant). We sat on uncomfortable benches and got eaten by mosquitoes while waiting. If you can park on the right side to see the trolley pull up, I would suggest waiting in your car until it comes. You load on the trolley where you have a driver and a narrator. The first part is driving partly through the town talking about Hotspot but you don't stop. The benches were at least padded so it wasn't an uncomfortable ride and you could hear the woman well. She had jokes but it was easy to tell she was more of an actress than a historical narrator. The one of two stops is in the playground across from the lighthouse. It was dark which added the spooky factor but her stories were bit lackluster. She promoted flash on cameras which will pick up on anything and claimed that they were ghostly orbs. Be careful because there were a lot of low branches and since I didn't have a flashlight, I got a branch to the eye. Probably the scariest part of the whole night. Then you are onto the bus again for a gross but not ghost story which I liked cause, horror. A brief stop to talk about the Castillo before heading to the old jail. You go inside where the woman talks for a bit. Then the first of several jump scares happen and the girl is replaced by a prisoner actor. I will spare you all the details of the jail to not spoil it. This is not a ghost tour that people would think of. You weren't going to look for ghosts. You are there to be entertained by these actors. For someone who worked in premier haunts, it was a bit disappointing, especially when they kept trying to scare or use me as a volunteer or be warned when going into the dark haunted areas by myself. The stories were maybe 20 percent historically accurate. I gave it 2 stars due to the entertainment value. I had fun watching the other patrons buy into the tourist gimmick and believe they were seeing ghosts and screaming at the startle scares. It wasn't bad in a way I would ask for a refund. It just wasn't a ghost tour. If you are looking to be entertained and possibly scared, take this tour. If you are looking for historical stories and playing with gadgets, pick the Ripley's tour. I'd like to start off by saying I had a really good time. I arrived 30 mins early but had to wait until 10 minutes before it started to check in. The clerk ask a couple People if they could wait for the next tour because they over booked. We went to the cemetery, an old drug store, and the old jail. MORE STORY-TELLING THAN A TOUR = Yes you get on a bus that brings you to the location of haunts around the town. You disembark to get a closer look at two particular locations. But before and after those two locations the bus just races right by the locations from its stories (going with flow of traffic). You don't have time to stare at any site to search and be a little afraid. ANNOYING TOUR GUIDE BUT PRISONER WAS GREAT ACTOR = She knew her stuff, but her age worked against her (a definite college girl reflecting the stoic "like... like... like" used by her generation). The stories did NOT come to life through her telling (which is almost essential to a supposed 'haunted' tour). But the story teller who took over at the Old Jail by pretending to be a former prisoner and told the haunts in first person narrative played his part (insane, crazed, schizo emotions) very well. RECOMMENDATIONS = skip this tour. Even for the relatively low price it wasn't worth it. Perhaps if they found a way to actually make this a TOUR and not a story-telling bus ride, it'd be better. Definitely not what myself or my friends were expecting. If you are wanting something more serious and haunted, then this isn't for you. This tour was like watching a play with bad actors. The trolley you ride on is fun, however you can hardly hear what the guide is telling you because of the noise/traffic around you. The bad acting comes into play when you stop and get off at the museum & then at the jail. We were honestly laughing because we couldn't believe we paid actual money for this. I did a walking tour with Ghost and Gravestones a long time ago and was not impressed. This year, I went on a trolley tour, and it was dramatically different. This difference is due to the enthusiasm and the delightfulness of the tour guides. Tankerbelle and Brian were funny and amusing as a married couple and as a ghost tour guide and driver. Despite the dramatics, they kept the crowd interested and told wild ghost stories. If you are a serious ghost hunter, you would not like this tour. It is cheesy fun and theatrical. If you want to have a scream and a quick spook, go on this tour. It is not a serious or investigative ghost tour. I was invited by friends to go on this tour with seven children. Despite the screams and hijinks of the kids, the tour guide, Brian, was funny, upbeat, entertaining, and great with children. I don't spend a lot of time with children, yet I enjoyed my time with them. We stopped at the Tolomato Cemetery, the Oldest Drug Store, Potters Wax Museum, and the Old Jail. The tour guides kept the tour short, sweet, and perfect. They got the crowd to interact with them and laughing. On the trolley, they marketed and sold the book, Ghost and Gravestones for $5. It sells for $10.36 online and stores. The book is one of the best books about the history and ghosts of St Augustine. Every page is illustrated with vintage and historical photographs of St. Augustine. It is easy to read yet very informative! One of the must read stories in the book is "You'll End Up In The Pour House!". My favorite St. Augustine ghost book. This was the best Friday the 13th ever! read more

This was a fun time. Definitely kid friendly and not too scary for the Fraidy Cat. The tour starts a little slow but picks up as you go. This is also a cheat way to see the Old Jail and Potter's Wax Museum as they are part of the tour. You don't get to see all of the museum as some displays are covered, but you see enough. The jail was definitely the highlight of the tour. The actors made sure to stay in character and there were a few pop up scares that keep you on your toes. I think I was more amused by just looking outside the window than listening to our story teller- it seemed we went far from the historic district. Our bus tour GUIDE WAS BORING. We started out on the tour bus and were taken up and down the streets while the story teller told us scary stories about the town. This was my third time in the tour, was super excited. However the experience this time was very underwhelming. they changed the tour and left out parts from past tours. The tour guide tried very hard to be funny, she wasn't horrible, but it wasn't supposed to be a comedy show. The driver had a minor mishap and she chastised him in front of us all. There are so many types offered, it's hard to choose, we went with this one for the convenience of less walking because we had youth and aging in our group. Our guide didn't tell us that anything was based in fact and didn't know the answer to any questions. They made the whole scene seem like it was poorly acted out. I'll start off by saying that I agree with everything Pam B wrote about the tour. It's exactly what I was going to write. I'll add that 2 of us booked over the phone for an 8:40pm tour and we were told twice to arrive at 8:10pm. When we arrived at the checkin location we were told we were way too early and to return when we saw the trolley pull in which would be minutes before the tour time. Lighting at some interior and exterior locations was very low making it difficult to see clearly. All wax museum figures were covered or behind closed drapes so not really much to see there. The next day we ended up going back to the cemetery to properly tour the site only to discover that access to the grounds is restricted. On the flip side the trolley was clean, the staff were friendly and their admittedly pre-scripted tales are lightly entertaining. More storytelling, less ghosting. Not really sure the $55 price tag was worth it. Better to call this Tales on Trolleys. read more

I don't know what I was expecting...but that was awful. We regretted this tour by the time we left the parking lot. I literally thought about getting off and/or asking for a refund. The guide was not very good...at talking. She was hard to hear and constantly tongue tied. Traffic and trolley noise was louder than the guid. The stories were boring and the "tour" was basically just a trolley ride through the city at night. Nothing of any real significance if you're seeking a thrill. Same stuff we saw on the regular trolley tour just with boring stories. I think they gave some effort and were a friendly group. The trolleys seemed to be cleaned after each group (during COVID-19 pandemic) so for that I give 2 stars. Just not for us at all. read more

It was fun listening to the stories however it's still advertised that the trolley stops and you get to walk around the jail for 30 minutes (it's even in the confirmation email) and that DOES NOT happen due to COVID, and they don't inform you about it not happening at all. Kind of disappointed, that's the whole reason why we chose this tour. The guide was funny and a good story teller at least. If you're planning on doing this tour, just know it's been shortened to only an hour long and you don't leave the trolley, unlike what their website and confirmation email states. read more
