I wasn't that hungry tonight, but I had been craving meat and cheese the entire day! The platter that Gia Mia had offered on their menu sounded wonderful, but I was definitely looking for a taste of some hard cheese like, Parmesan or Romano. I spoke to the bartender (we were sitting at the bar), and I explained my "version" of the meat and cheese platter. Right now, you can think of the movie, "When Harry Met Sally," and Sally's quirky ordering requirements. But, Gia Mia didn't disappoint! I love when I go there--they make you feel like family! One side note: I was pleased to meet, Kyle, the General Manager who will be handling the new Gia Mia in Geneva which will hopefully open in February. What a great guy! The outdoor patio is pet-friendly! Our little dog loved the pizza crust. The ZUCCHINI FRITTERS and PROSCIUTTO SAN DANIELLE were incredible! The Tuesday special (lasagna) was great. The LINGUINI FINI ARRABIATTA was way spicier than I would have expected at a suburbian restaurant but tasty (if you like spicy food). The ROASTED VEGETABLE PIE was the only item that I wouldn't order again; it was really bland--so much so that I wonder if the kitchen forgot to put the lemon drizzle on it. I was also mildly disappointed with the portion size of the LINGUINI FINI ARRABIATTA; for $18 I felt they could have thrown in a couple more noodles. This was my first time trying this place and I will defiantly be back. It was a tapas place with great ambiance and fabulous service! As you ordered the food came out almost instantly. I went with a friend of mine and we decided to get one pizza and one pasta and it was amazing. We got the pear caramelized onion pizza which is a good combination of sweet and savory together and we also got the Bucatini garlic cream pasta which was a very rich combination of flavors in the pasta. Lately, for desert we got the Panna cotta + blueberry sorbetto, which was my first time trying Panna cotta and it won't be my last. I hadn't been to Gia Mia in a couple of years because I wasn't impressed with the food and the place, having amazing acoustics, is extremely noisy inside. This week I went with 9 friends who had made the decision to go there and I was willing to give it another try. No one in our group was happy with his or her food. For example, the pizza has a very soggy crust. I know this could be fixed because other places do it. So we won't be going there again. I don't enjoy seeing restaurants, in my town, fail so if they read this, please reevaluate and fix the taste and texture of your dishes. Also, sitting outside really helps with the noise level. read more

I think Gia Mia is working kinks out still. I can't rate the food because I left before I was seated. We called ahead to be put on the call-ahead list. When we arrived we checked in and the hostess told us we would be seated "shortly". After waiting 30 minutes, I asked how much longer and was told that it shouldn't be much longer. When couples (like us) came in to inquire about wait times, they were told 30-45 minutes. They were also offered the opportunity to sit at the counter. We were not. Interestingly, some groups they seated as soon as they arrived. I'm not sure the benefit of the call-ahead list. I also think it is poor form to tell someone they would be seated shortly when the actual wait was in excess of 30 minutes. When I told them we were leaving they didn't seem to care. While I realize that they had more customers than they could clearly handle tonight, it's never good to treat a potential customer the way we were treated tonight. Hope they work out their front house issues. I'd like to try the food. read more

Alright I'm updating my review. Your short rib Gnocchi is no longer a Saturday special now it's on the menu full time it's a delicious meal but you raised the price from 19$ to 23$ ? And let's face it , how much meat is really in this dish ? One Rib maybe 2 ? And your listing it under your big plate section ? Your Saturday night Cabernet special is no longer ? You took your glass of wine from a 9$ special to 13 bucks ? And it's a lousy pour ! Listen Pal you've opened up several Restaurants , so I guess that makes you a success. I'm looking for a little more value with my meal . I could continue to rip on you but I think I've made my point with a couple examples. The meatballs al forgo was so tender and just delicate.. next time we are not sharing 1 order for our family of 3, as my 2 year was loving this. Even the kid menu mac and cheese was hard to resist to not want more than 1 bite as it was so good. And don't get to order the burrito as I could not stop eating the charred grapes. The pancetta arugula pizza was also really good but the surprise stand out was the meatballs. Went with a group of 8, pretty good selection for us to share. The pizzas are yummmmm! They Pizzas are thin and the bread is tasty. We had 4 different pizzas 4 different tapas and I think everyone was pretty happy. All different types of beers. Came on a Saturday night at 8:15pm, people have been waiting over an hour but we must have come at the right time we waited 20 minutes. (7pm will have a long wait on Saturday pm). Went here for dinner with a group of six on a Friday. Having eaten at the Geneva Gia Mia I thought it would be fine. Not so. My wife had the salmon plate, which was totally raw in the center (the salmon, not the plate). She wanted to send it back but it would have been too embarrassing for the group. I had the Bolognese rigatoni covered in a really bad sauce with ground up sausage (I think). When it arrived at the table it was slightly above room temperature at best, and instead of the pasta being cooked "el dente" it was more like "el garden hose". They were quite busy, yes, but that's no excuse for undercooked meals. read more

I cannot say enough amazing things about Gia Mia! I have visited countless times and will say that every visit has always been wonderful. I have tried the pastas, salads, pizza, and starts and it is consistently delicious! The restaurant itself is beautiful with lots of light and always a good crowd. They have allowed call-aheads (rather than reservations) in the past however I JUST noticed they are on opentable for reservations. Best news! I finally went back and tried this place again for the first time since it opened. My first visit wasn't great but I'm now a believer. The pizzas are all really good but the chicken parm is outstanding. It's not too much and comes in a delicious bed of pesto linguini. Went to GIA MIA on a Tuesday night after work with some coworkers and it was excellent. I had a really great experience. The atmosphere is simple but pleasant and it wasn't crowded or loud. We were seated in the back and our server was quiet and not crazy helpful and didn't make any recommendations but she was patient as we made our food choices and we enjoyed a wonderful dinner. I ordered the Paccheri Vodka pasta and a glass of wine. I was impressed by how quickly our food came out. The food was hot, but it did make me wonder how much of it was actually fresh. I'd love to hear more from the management. It was nice to not have to wait long for our food though! We enjoyed our food and wine and sat and talked for a while. Eventually the manager asked if she could move us to another table as she had a large party coming in and wanted to push our table to connect with another. We said absolutely! The food is pretty good, but not the best I've had. I ate chicken marsala and it was very watery, but a good flavor. My friend ate the Sicilian pizza and loved it. The waitress Emily was so nasty. I asked what type of wine is popular and she told me the most expensive one was of course. Then I said what about the 2nd best because I don't want to spend $13/glass. She said that the only good ones are expensive. I said, "that isn't always the case". She said "on our menu it is". She gave us a major attitude and didn't recommend anything. First time visiting this establishment and I was truly impressed with not only their menu but with their service and ambiance. Quaint eatery nestled in the heart of downtown Wheaton. I chose the Tenderloin Salad. It was delicious. The steak was cooked to perfection and the balsamic dressing and Gorgonzola cheese along with the medley of mushrooms was an excellent compliment to the bed of arugula. The menu was robust with items to choose from. Service was prompt and friendly. Our plates came promptly with no issues. I would say that a number of dishes were a bit spicy even though some guests eliminated the chili seasonings. A little overpowering, and masked the some of the wonderful flavors of the dish. Had margarita pizza as takeout and it was a bit disappointing. Also tried the linguine carbonara with chicken and it was just okay, won't order either again. My husband got the shrimp linguini and loved it. Had a nice subtle spice to it. He also enjoys their spaghetti and meatballs- classic dish. I love their salads. We went on Friday night 5/26 and I had the pasta Bolognese which was way too garlicky and salty. Very disappointing. I also had the Italian salad to start which had too much dressing.
