We needed to eat quickly before crossing the border and Gian's lunch buffet was perfect! We got to try a sample of everything and they even brought some fresh garlic and plain naan by our table. The naan bread was delicious that we ended up ordering one more! The goat vindaloo was delicious but we felt it was too saucy. The seating is very uncomfortable. We had to squeeze ourselves in to get seated. Certainly not a well thought out place for people of all sizes. I found it hard to get in and out, which was awfully annoying. Service was okay. They weren't too busy but I suppose it was right after their buffet ended, which meant they must've been really tired. This is one of the Top 5 Indian joints of ALL TIME with some of the BEST INDIAN FOOD EVER !! The service is prompt and respectful... Food is good but I had a weird experience. I'm one of those people who genetically can't stomach cilantro, so I asked the server to please make sure there wasn't any cilantro garnish on my curry. When it arrived, it had cilantro on top. I scrapped it off and wasn't going to make a big deal of it. But then... one of the cooks came over to bus our table and saw all the cilantro piled on a small plate. He said, "Oh! I was told not to put cilantro on your dish but I just did it anyway." Gian's was always our go to for a group meal. I ordered a selection of dishes but was really, really disappointed about the portions. Previously, the 10 dishes we ordered could feed the 14 people for dinner. But now the portions were so small, everybody left hungry. January 22: I went to Gians with family and a bad experience. They have fewer staff so that makes service very slow. We have to wait a lot for food we went there at 5pm and got out at 8pm all because of slow service. Food: Their food is well below the average Indian food, every curry was tasted alike. Just a note to all. The buffet is only for lunch and am told by the wait staff that it's not spicy. Secondly, I am not a fan of the interior design. However, that said the food that I ordered was excellent. This is an ala carte restaurant meaning each item that you would like, you need to order separately. So, I ordered Prawn Vindaloo, Hayderabadi Lamb and Basmati rice. Remember to order the rice if you ask for really spicy to counter the curry. That said, I'm glad I ordered really spicy as it turns out was just the right heat. Had I not ordered really spicy, I fear it was going to be tame. Man this place is busy! Busy!! We ordered and then waited for our takeout. Well worth the wait. We had the Keema naan. The lamb biryani. Butter chicken. And the paneer and spinach. My colleague and I dropped by here for their lunch buffet. We were able to get seated immediately, and when we informed the staff that it was our first time there, they walked us through the dishes available that day and shared with us some of their recommendations. From what I could understand, they usually have two or three meat dishes as part for the buffet, and then the remainder are all vegetarian. They refill and keep the buffet relatively stocked up, so you never really need to worry about the food running out or not being fresh. Their curry and nan bread were easily my most favourite. I didn't try the dessert cause I wasn't in the mood for anything sweet, but I definitely went back for seconds. Usually I'd write down which dishes stood out, but everything was delicious and nothing in particular was bad, so I decided to forego that this review. Good spot for Indian if you're in Abbotsford. The service was great, this restaurant has a real family feel. The flavours were good, but I found the meat quite chewy in the curries. The server was great at suggesting dishes that don't contain dairy since I am lactose intolerant, and he had a great sense of humour. read more

This may be the best Indian food we've had in North America! Being from North India, I've tried many different restaurants in many cities and I have to say Gian's might be at the top of the list. Guan's has great Indian food. This restaurant has been around for years and doesn't look super fancy from the outside... but you can't judge a book by its cover on this one! I took my parents to Abbotsford and was well aware of the Indian community that exist there but I've never eaten at an Indian restaurant in Abbotsford before. We approached this restaurant and noticed the staff cleaning the door and I was immediately impressed due to the new precautions this pandemic has created. Rahul and Harsh greeted us and took our information name and number and proceeded to take us to a table. I asked our server Rahul what his favourite meals were in simply returned the menu and said that sounds great bring it all. I ordered gol gappa water to start with a Samosa plate and a chaat plate. Best samosas in any restaurant I've ever had. We also ordered the Murgh Masala and Paneer dish with naan. Everything was delicious fresh. If you're looking for a quick bite of East Indian food, then this is your place. They offer buffet style lunch Monday to Friday for only $13.00/person. The butter chicken is to die for and don't forget that naan bread to soak up all the extra sauce. The atmosphere is dated and a bit old but the food makes up for that. Make sure you don't mix up the Gians Banquet location and Gians Restaurant. Nonetheless, they're only a few blocks away from each-other, so not too far to back-track if you go to the wrong location. I really like this place but the last couple of times I've been here has been a disappointment. I love their butter chicken, I ordered for take-out one night and the chicken was really tough, like it was reheated or something, the sauce was still really good. Speaking as a non-Indian Anglo-Saxon white guy, the food is incredible and I honestly could go and eat there everyday! We quite often go for the lunch buffet because you get a good sampling of the food for a reasonable price, and with all you can eat...oh baby. The butter chicken at Gian's is just amazing and I have to really stop myself from just putting a straw in the container and diving straight in. Had take out lamb jalfrazi and a spiced up chicken tikka masala, which they did for me upon request. I'm just traveling through. But if I lived in Abbotsford, I'd spend serious time here. The meat in both dishes was high quality and properly cooked. The jalfrazi had a bit too much oil, but this is often the case. The veggies in both dishes were cooked perfectly as well--too often peppers and onions become limp, rubbery garnishes, but not here. Also, the rice was well seasoned and of decent quality, which adds to the quality of the food. read more

I love Indian food and hoped to find a new go-to take out option after having made the move from Vancouver to Abbotsford. Based on the reviews online, I figured Gian's was worth the 20 minute drive in each direction to try out. Knowing it was a bit of a drive and the kids' eating schedule is rather carved in stone, I called ahead to pre-order with about 90 minutes of lead time. So it was a bit disappointing to arrive at the pre-scheduled time only to have to wait another 25 minutes at the restaurant for my order to be ready. (My best theory to date is that they decided not to actually start making any of my food until I showed up in person and paid for it.) The level of confusion and disarray among the staff was obvious. Although the restaurant has plenty of indoor dining space, most people there were similarly waiting for take-out. And most of those were also annoyed by the unexpected delay in getting their orders filled. But eventually the food arrives packed into two plastic bags and I'm back in my car for the belated drive home. I didn't make it more than a few blocks before I noticed that the bag was turning all sorts of pretty colours. I kept pulling over to try to stabilize the stacked take out containers but essentially ended up driving home with my (increasingly aromatic) right arm extended trying to keep everything in place. When I got everything inside I realized that more than one container lid hadn't even been folded over to keep closed. So we lost a decent amount of that dish to the forces of gravity, but, from what we tasted of that which remained, we weren't missing much.
