While staying at the Pan Pacific before our cruise we wanted to be easy and eat at the restaurant downstairs the night before called Ocean's 999. We did have drinks at the bar which were fantastic so we thought the restaurant would be just as amazing. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. They have very different flare profiles and almost every dish that I felt would ruin it for me. Now keep in mind. I am a southern American and these were probably the way Canadians like it. However, it took me over 30 minutes to find something that I would even like by removing something from the dish. I ended up going the safe route in ordering the Angus beef burger, but I asked him to remove the truffle AOL which I hate truffle. My husband wanted to eat fish and chips in Vancouver so he chose that. Everything looked great came out nice and hot and the service was awesome. However, the Burger had some kind of jam on it that had a sweet flavor. The only thing that I could think of which would cause that was a smoked tomato relish. It definitely threw off the flavor of the burger. The fish and chips also had no flavor even the fries which I love french fries. I don't complain much and wasn't gonna say anything, but the server was insistent on making us happy even though we declined every time. She finally convinced us to just order a dessert. We ordered the apple tart, which I normally do like Apple desserts. But I feel like a horrible person because it was not very good either. I didn't tell her so he destroyed it now so she would think we liked it. But the jelly on top of the tart was a dense consistency and had a strange Rich flavor that didn't seem much like a tart at all. Keep in mind this was a very busy travel day for us and our taste buds might have not been acclimated. But if you want to try some fantastic mixed drinks at $20-$30 apiece do it. Oceans 999 has a great holiday buffet, which offers a wide array of appetizers, entrees and desserts. This is probably one of the higher end buffets in the city. Both their prawn cocktail and smoked salmon were very high quality. We also enjoyed their roast beef, duck breast and turkey. Most of the desserts were delicious but a few of the cakes were a bit too sweet. The ambiance of the seating area is great, with live music. We went here for our work Holiday Lunch and for $75/pp, I can't say it was worth the price even though we didn't pay for it ourselves. There was more salad selection compared to the entrees. The entrees weren't bad, just expected more in terms of selections. I always base how good a buffet is based on their dessert selection and this just didn't quite cut it for me. Food tasted fine but just can't justify the cost. The service was great though, they made sure everything was always topped up and when my friend couldn't have any of the desserts due to dietary restrictions, they brought her one from the kitchen that suited her dietary needs. read more

We came here for the Sunday brunch buffet because I was going through a buffet phase. I had already tried Sunday brunch buffets at H2 and Notch8 in the past few weeks. I'm glad I tried Oceans 999 because the food and views are both great! The price is the same as Notch8 at $59/person, but I feel like Oceans 999 is a much better deal because of the better quality seafood and selection. The crab legs and shrimp tasted good and fresh. My partner said the lamb at the carving station was excellent. The desserts were good, too. Creme brûlée and chocolate mousse were delicious. The only strange thing was the jello with whipped cream. The whipped cream didn't go well with the jello, and the jello, well, it's just jello. I like that the tables are not so close together so there's privacy, and it's not loud. My partner enjoyed the live piano performance. Service was excellent, and the view was beautiful. Who doesn't enjoy eating brunch with mountains in the background? We will be back! read more

Five of us had the Special New Year's brunch buffet, for $110 per person. The food variety was fine, but I have had better meals at Joey's and Cactus Club by far. Most of the meats, aside from the prime rib, were overcooked; the chinese food was truly poor, entree's were unimaginative and flavors were uninteresting, decor is dated. Unlike other buffets, juices are not included, only coffee and tea. Desserts were fine but not great. The live music was a nice touch. Overall, the food would have fine except for the price. Being the Pan Pacific, and at $110 per person for brunch, the experience was very disappointing and we will not be back. We did, however, experience a funny moment. 4 other guests were brought into the area by the host, and they asked for a window table. The host indicated they were reserved for groups of a specific number. The guest said they had the correct number for the table. The host left, perhaps to check. The guest said, "Thank you, I really appreciate it". The host, while huffing past our table, replied "I don't think so". Hilarious! I'm guessing the host did not enjoy his job. At the end, I went to pay, and they automatically included an 18% tip. That's a $99 tip for a disappointing experience. I struggle with giving lower tips because food quality isn't the server's fault, and I know people are generally not paid enough, so I didn't change the tip. I'm not going back there though. this is the 2nd time i've been to this restaurant for dineout and surprisingly i had a better experience with my parents this year. we were a bit early for our reso but they were very nice to seat us anyways. the host that led us to our table was very courteous and even pushed my mom's chair in a bit after she sat down - mom thought that was a nice touch. our server came by real quick and asked if we wanted drinks etc. dad had water because he was the DD, while mom and i had the rose that paired with our entree - ofc i cant rmb the name of it lol. for appies, we all had the crispy pork belly. the service of this dish was very fast, which was not the case for the entrees later. the pork belly was crispy and flavourful. i love how the lime juice adds a tartness that cuts the grease. the daikon and carrot salad was nice tho my dad didn't care for it but ate all the meat lol. dad had the ling cod while mom and i had the trout for entree. i think we must have waited for 10min for our entrees. there were 2 large tables during our dinner service, which may have caused delays but just something to note. dad liked his cod dish (he's not a big fish fan) but didn't like the coriander lemongrass pesto, which he tried to scrape most of it off and gave it to me. the remaining on the cod, tho, he said matched the flavour of dish very well. it was also dad's first time trying quinoa - his words "it doesnt rly taste like anything but i guess it's ok." [Dineout 2019 review - sorry it's so late!] The other reviews suggest that this place may be better suited for weekend brunch... My friends and I were a large group for dineout, and this restaurant welcomingly accommodated us, which was great! However, the food did not leave a stellar impression. I had the butternut squash to start, the duck breast for my entree, and cheesecake for dessert. I had mistakenly assumed the butternut squash would be baked and come out soft - I was very wrong; it was very crunchy and felt like it was zapped instead of baked. The duck breast was surprisingly good for a seafood restaurant! Cooked to a perfect colour. However, the sauce did not make a lot of sense to me, and was an olive purée. (I actually think it was the same sauce used in the other entree option, which was cod...) Finally, the cheesecake! This I had no complaints about and enjoyed the rich-but-not-too-sweet finish to our meal. Went with my boyfriend on my birthday, which happened to be a Saturday so we had the Italian buffet night with live opera. The server was so friendly. We sat on a table at our choice but later he came over and suggested another table for us for a better view of the opera. My boyfriend and I loved the spinach mushroom ravioli and the roasted beef. All the salads and sides were worthwhile to try too. At the customized pasta bar, I ordered a pasta with creamy pesto sauce and mushroom. It turned out to be a highlight. Three members of my party including myself ordered the garden omelet. For the remainder of the day and all the next day, the 3 of us that ordered that omelet were sick. I went here for a coffee (very good) this morning and I forgot my wallet with a decent sum of money in it. I didn't notice for at least an hour after being in my hotel room and when I went back they had it for me with everything in it. I am so greatful to the staff at this restaurant. Market Brunch (Sunday's 11:30 am to 2:30 pm) is a great buffet option for the view, live piano music and food selection. It costs $59 a person, but is free for children up to 5 years old. This makes the buffet somewhat family friendly as young children do not eat much. The price is a bit on the expensive side so I think this is more of a special occasions type of brunch or a splurge meal. We were seated near the piano and enjoyed the pianist playing a number of tunes I recognized from classical to modern pop melodies. Our server was great. He checked up on us regularly to clear plates, refill coffee and drop off our drink orders. I paid extra for the mimosas ($9.50/glass). Food selection was good for Vancouver standards. This is nothing close to Vegas' Bacchanal Buffet ($59 USD for weekend brunch) and I can only wish Vancouver will one day have a buffet as grand as a Vegas buffet. There were breads, scones, muffins, cheese, charcuterie board, salads, crab legs, cocktail shrimp, Shanghai noodles, siu mai, shrimp dumplings, veggie spring rolls, lamb, salmon, veggies, mash potato, egg Benedict, sushi, omelette station, salmon Wellington, roast beef, juice and dessert. There were a few more items I did not list. The quality is not the best for some items, but the food was tasty regardless. Salmon Wellington was alright. Pink Peppercorn Seafood House does a better version, but this item is not commonly found at most restaurants so it is a good item to eat. The restaurant should find a new dim sum chef. The shrimp dumpling skin was sticking to each other and falling apart. I did enjoy eating the shrimp filling. The siu mai was better but was missing the fish roe. The roast beef and lamb slices were my favourite during this visit. The crab legs were split and made eating easier. The crab meat was sweet. The cocktail shrimp was a good size, but did not taste memorable. There was a good selection of salads to choose from. The dessert selection was alright. I enjoyed the chocolate mousse and creme brûlée. It was interesting to find jelly beans and gummy candies, but I assume the kids or kids at heart would enjoy those items. There was also jello and cookies. For the price, I think the variety is worth the visit. I would still return to this restaurant on special occasions for brunch. The service was great. Food was replenished regularly in the beginning. After you are finished your meal, I recommend you to step outside for a few moments, enjoy the view and take some pictures. read more

But we had a big group (8 adults and 3 babies under 5 years old). And I was having such a hard time finding any place downtown or the surrounding areas that would accommodate us. I called Ocean999 and they took our reservation *HOORAYY!* Upon arriving we were seated right away. The restaurant was packed on Saturday night, there were Opera singers performing on stage. We sat pretty far from stage so it didn't bother the babies how loud the singers were, and I saw that none of the tables around stage had young children, I think they purposely sat tables with kids away from the stage, which is good. The food was soooooo good. I was also skeptical about the buffet food but it turned out to be great! food kept coming out, I didn't have a problem with wanting a specific thing but it was empty on the tray. They have a pasta bar where you pick out the pasta, the sauce, veggies, meat, etc. and they will cook your pasta dish right in front of you, which is neat. Desserts were also delicious with lots of different choices to choose from. Our waiter's service deserved a 5-star! He was quick with our requests, attentive and very friendly. The breakfast/brunch buffet here is the best I've ever seen, but the view here is just as incredible. Because it's $39 for breakfast buffet, it's never really busy, so you won't be waiting in line long for all that tasty food. They even have shots of beet/apple juice and orange, turmeric, and cayenne. That said, they should not be charging extra for lattes and the like on top of the eye-watering breakfast price. read more

Recently went to Oceans 999 as part of Dine Out Vancouver. I had been to the restaurant for a Christmas Buffet a few years ago, and I was excited to try dinner there. That evening there were couples on an intimate date, a large group of ladies for a girls' night out, and quite a few families with very well-behaved small children in high chairs. Live music playing in the lounge across the way was a nice treat and seeing the view of the twinkling city lights at night was breathtaking. I am used to seeing a server arrive soon after we are seated to fill our water glasses and ask if we would like to start off with something to drink, and/or if we need some more time with the menu. For some reason, that did not happen here. We were sitting at our tables with menus and empty water glasses for at least 5, maybe even 10 minutes with no server in sight. It struck me as a bit odd as the restaurant was definitely not busy at the time. Eventually I had to almost stare down a server before she disappeared around the corner and came back with a water pitcher to finally fill our glasses, but I had not idea if she was supposed to have been our original server or not. Did we need more time with the menu? No thank you, we had been sitting here for more than enough time to figure out what we wanted to order. First was the Superfood Salad. On the menu it read like a laundry list of everything that is wholesome and healthy for you: quinoa, kale, spinach, cranberries, just to scratch the surface. I felt ten times healthier upon finishing my salad, and I appreciated the fact there was just enough vinaigrette to lightly coat the salad, and the leaves weren't swimming in it. Herb-Crusted Ling Cod was up next. Fish was flaky and moist. The curry was a nice spicy compliment to the fish, but I honestly think the fish was just as delicious with the first few bites I took (sans curry). The portion was a bit smaller than I expected even for Dine Out standards; I don't believe I am a big eater, but by the time I was done with the entree I could have gone back for seconds. Exotic Chocolate Extravaganza was the only option for dessert. I wondered why there was only one option, but I soon found out it didn't matter. It had a small tasting of many different desserts, so my usual agonizing over which dessert to choose was not a problem here: moose, creme, a tiny little cake. Everything there was absolutely delicious, and I had to fight not to literally lick my plate clean. The only unfortunate part was once again the portion was smaller than expected. First of all, yelp screwed me. I typed in seafood buffet and this came up. This place is not a seafood buffet. It is overpriced cruise ship food but on dry land. Went for a Saturday opera night. The salad options were ok and the desserts were pretty good. However, the entrees fell flat. I had to wait like a hawk to get any of the main courses because they were not refilled timely. Also, the pasta chef was working solo and spent most of the night 10 diners deep. Only one of the entrees was seafood. One of the entrees was a turkey panini. 60 dollars per person and the best option was a turkey panini? Our server was excellent, but she didn't have a lot to work with when the food was pretty lackluster. As for the opera portion, the room does not really have the acoustics for opera singers and it didn't seem like the singers rehearsed together as they were singing at different tempos and volumes (relative to one another). If you want to take advantage of their opera singers, i would suggest sitting at the bar/lounge and go eat somewhere else. read more

Came here with my husband to celebrate our anniversary recently. The restaurant is surprisingly large and empty. It was nice to have that privacy with a nice view where you can look out to the water. We also used a Groupon voucher that offers a 3 course prefix meal. We each chose the smoke salmon rillettes for the appy and the BC strawberry field for dessert. For the main we order the grilled flank steak and seafood paella. The seafood paella was cooked a bit different from your typical spanish paella. The seafood were not cooked with the rice and were grilled/cooked separately. This did make a bit of a difference to the flavour of the rice as it is missing that seafood taste in the rice, but it does ensure the seafood are not overcooked. There are also some pretty tasty and creative alcoholic and non alcohlic drinks that have a bit of asian inspiration. All the dishes were presented beautifully. Thought we'd go here this morning to check out the breakfast brunch buffet for $59. It's located right in the Pan Pacific Hotel with an amazing view of the ocean and North Shore mountains. The ambiance is trendy yet upscale and they have a nice piano player who sings while you enjoy your brunch buffet too. The quality of the food is very good. Fresh and well prepared and the selection is pretty decent too. The deserts are amazing and they will also cook you fresh scrambled eggs as well. The service is good and they also make really good espressos and mochas or capuchinos should you wish to enjoy one with your brunch. It's a nice upper scale clientele and although a bit pricey, I'd say it's worth it for the variety and quality of food you're getting such as king crab legs, salmon, eggs benny , prawns, shrimp, etc etc. read more

This was one of the most disappointing buffets in Greater Vancouver. Compared to Notch 8, Sutton Place Boulevard, The Arc, Dockside, River Rock this Buffet was underwhelming. The staples of brunch usually include pancakes and waffles, which are no where to be found at this buffet. Dim Sum had only one option Siu Mai(steamed pork) when Ha Gao (steamed shrimp) and Dumplings should have been the 3 bare minimum items included in the buffet. Seafood selection was very limited, I did not find any salmon/tuna sashimi, mussels, clams or scallops. For foodies who don't like lamb, beef or salmon you will leave here very unsatisfied. There is no chicken, turkey or ham at the carving station. There was only one deep fried option, vegetable spring rolls. Hash browns, Wings or Tater Tots would have been a great additions. Finally the most epic fail of the entire buffet was the dessert station. Consisting of the cheapest and most boring desserts: jello, mini breads, danishes and muffins, two types of cake, warm bread pudding, cheesecake sliced into tiny squares and chocolate cakes sliced into tiny squares and a tasteless creme brûlée that tastes like the pastry chef forgot to add sugar. When I go to a buffet I expect to be WOWED with unique food items and speciality desserts that I cannot experience at the local bakery. The buffet is priced at $59, definitely zero value here and I guarantee you will leave feeling empty inside and hunger for a better experience. Even the $30 everyday buffet at the River Rock offers more value. I would strongly suggest the manager of food and beverage try the River Rock buffet and see how the Oceans 999 brunch buffet fails in comparison on price, food quality, selection and creativity. The only positive about this buffet is the service. 5 stars. Staff was amazing in making sure our water and coffee cups were never empty. My boyfriend and I came here on a Saturday night which also happened to be Italian night with a live opera singer. We were originally going to try their dine out menu but changed our minds immediately after realizing that there was also a buffet option. The buffet consisted of a variety of food , everything from salads, charcuterie, breads, different kinds of meats, vegetables and a quite the assortment of cakes and mini pastries for dessert. They also had a build your own pasta station set up. Although it costs $60 per person , the quality of the food , the service and the entire atmosphere of this place is worth it. read more

If you're looking to have dinner or just a glass with the most wonderful view of Vancouver, this is the place you need to go. Facing the north side of Vancouver and Stanley, you can enjoy delicious food while observing the wonderful sunset over the water. The local wine is not the best but will still match very nicely with your meal. Unfortunately we hadn't had the chance to stay in the hotel for the night but the food experience and the opening view were both extremely satisfying. read more

We stayed in the Pan Pacific and 999 is the restaurant downstairs. This place has the best breakfast. The bacon will melt in your mouth! We had the fruit plate as a side everyday and it was really good. The hashbrowns are the best we have ever experienced. I'd probably give it a 4.5 out of 5 but I have no way of doing it and 4 is not enough for it so 5 it is. We went out for their Operatic dinner which only cost some 59 dollars for a nice buffet. Really, the food was nice enough for us to pay the $59 if not more for it. The appetizer bar was great although the Tuna appetizer was only ok. Other appetizer items were great however such as their marinated portobello mushrooms which were just delicious. Their beef carpaccio was nice. I wish they had put a little more pesto on their chicken appetizer. I wish I had had more of the pasta from the pasta station and had less of the self serve hot entrees as I didn't particularly like their fish dish but their pasta was very nice and it's cooked to your liking. Their duck hot entree was delicious. The dessert station was okay and I wish I hadn't saved as much room for it and simply eaten more pasta. What really made it lovely was the opera singers. I listen to and attend the opera often so I enjoyed it. We were quite close to the performers. Now I know they're not the greatest opera singers but for restaurant entertainers, they're wonderful. There were four singers and a pianist whom I understand is the rehearsal pianist for the VO. They made all sorts of effort and sang favorites that people love to hear: eg arias from Carmen, Lakme, La Traviata, La Boheme, Don Giovanni and so on. I recently ate at the Four Season's restaurant where the food for one cost what the meals for my date and me cost. I would say that the food was at least as good at Ocean's. We were there for over 3 hours and with tip for wonderful service and for wine, it came to less than $200. read more

The food was good but they did not advertise a compulsory 18% gratuity. Felt like I was singled out as a cheap or no tipper. They lost out two ways. I usually tip 20% not 18% and I'll never go back to be treated like a piker by impertinent twerps. The music was terrible too. read more

Really bad experience and disappointed on customer service here. The server charged one more person on our 4 people. When we got back to ask if there were something wrong with the bill, the server came back with some cash(we paid by credit). It made me think it's not their first time doing this, just maybe? And the server showed us her poor attitude towards us and was clearly not happy with our coming back. So we insisted to get the refund on our credit to start over to pay again. Through this whole process, there was not even one 'sorry' or other apologies from any servers or managers. Totally disappointed but great opera performance. read more
