This is a review for the pharmacy. Terribly slow and unorganized. I ended up paying for my prescriptions on the app while waiting in line for more than 30 minutes to be helped by a pharmacist. Then, when I got to the register, she claimed the payment didn't go through (despite showing her in the giant app AND on my credit card app) so I double-paid. I visited past midnight on a Friday evening and felt disappointed. This Giant location had a general lack of cleanliness, untidy aisles and shelves, as well as sad looking produce. I was surprised by how crowded the store was given the time of the day. Lots and lots of older men shopping and people in scrubs perhaps just leaving their evening shifts from the nearby hospital. The whole store felt like a freezer. It's bad news when my Floridian hubby starts chattering his teeth like a little chihuahua in his hoodie and all. I understand the rationale behind it and would rather the store feel freezing than items not being in proper fridge temperature. But not in such a way that it kills produce and the comfort of customers shopping in the store!! Not to mention the energy cost! By the time we survived through the dairy aisle, we were so frozen and forgot what we even went there for! But we did find some onion bagels that was actually really decent. It's no NY bagels but it was soft and fluffy. The checkout process was a bit strange too. There was one cashier but she used two completely different registers for transactions. So we waited in an unopened register line she directed us to as she went back and forth. Some things, I don't understand. We hadn't been to this store for many years, since my mother had moved away from this area. We took advantage of being very nearby two days ago and we stocked up on a huge amount of non-perishable items - including some incredibly-delicious cornbread - plus spinach quiche, which we ate en route back to NYC. The selection of items throughout this (huge) store was *superb* and everything was organized really nicely. Also, the cashier was exceptionally friendly - and the manager who we complimented about the cashier was also friendly. read more

Giant Pharmacy on Old Georgetown Road in Rockville/Bethesda is absolutely the worse. I give it a NEGATIVE FIVE STARS IF IT WAS POSSIBLE. I was trying to fill my prescriptions a few nights ago. I was tired and sick. There was one Pharmacist and five pharmacy techs. I guess that is what you call them. The line was long, but mean while the techs were just socializing amongst each other. One even started to jump up and down in celebration of Argentina wining a soccer game or some such and paying more attention to her phone than customers. I had asked them not to fill one particular prescription. They didn't pay attention and filled it anyway. They failed to fill the one I ask them to. Is there accountability for folks who works at Giant (Pharmacy)? Do they really care about customer service? NOT! I am going to CVS next time. read more

The pharmacy at the Old Georgetown Square in Bethesda is an overworked and poorly run operation. While the computer is supposed to light up the location of your prescription, the clerk, who seems to be someone new every week, still has to spend time looking for the item. One has to be careful and check to make sure you receive the correct prescription. I recently picked up a prescription, which had been filled automatically without my ordering it, and found it was a larger dosage, which had been replaced by a smaller dosage prescription six months ago. If the store were not so close to my home, I would shop for groceries and medicines elsewhere. read more

This pharmacy is horrible. I made an appointment for shots and when I got there at my appointment time I was told to wait on a line of about 6 people. Once I got to the front I was told I'd now have to wait 30 minutes for them to process it like a prescription. So now it's 45 minutes past my appointment time and I'm told when my number is called to get back on line AGAIN! Why even do appointments if I had to wait 30 minutes plus wait on line twice?! read more

My produce often spoils within a couple of days and I frequently find expired products in that section. There is no butcher, and I don't feel great about buying packaged meat. There is a seafood counter, but the last time I asked about something, the guy at the counter didn't know the answer and said they had just rotated him through the department. Sometimes, the fish doesn't appear fresh, and the crab meat is of lower quality than at other stores. The bread is very good. The staff is nice,, or I would give this business a 2 star rating. read more

This is our local store and convenient to work, school and home. I have not really encountered anything negative about the grocery store so it's still a good back up for my family and I. The Pharmacy on the other hand has been a thorn in my side over the years but recently like within the last 2 weeks or so I have noticed new people. New people could mean a new experience. I have interacted with three pharmacists in last 2-3 weeks and they were actually nice and professional. Could this be the change this pharmacy needed? Please let this be a new chapter for this store and pharmacy and who knows people may return less stressed to pick up their meds. I know I shudder at the thought. Next can we address the parking lot? I so wanted to be able to write a glowing review of this Giant because it's so close to my home. However.... When I was working in downtown Bethesda this was my go to store for groceries & prescriptions. I'm retired now & my sleeping habits have me up at all hours so I thought this would be the perfect solution since they're open 24 hours. If you go after midnight there's only 1 register open, which you would think was fine. WRONG!! You'd be surprised how many people shop at that hour! Common sense would tell you that the self-service registers should be open, right? WRONG!! Apparently they've had some security issues, you know, people stealing. I went there to pick up some asparagus because they were on sale. I walked over to the place where they usually are & I thought they must've moved them. THERE WASN'T 1 ASPARAGUS!! I don't think I've ever seen that before. Their produce dept has really gone downhill. You would think that because they're a small store they would be able to keep it well stocked. WRONG!! There's only a few things that I go there for now, I have to get everything else at Safeway & Harris Teeter. And finally, I saved the best for last....the pharmacy!! I only have 1 prescription that I need from them & having them open 24 hours is great, right? WRONG!! What's the point of being open if they have someone who doesn't even know how to work the computer? And you can't take it to the other 1 register that's open because it's not allowed! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! And heaven help you if you need to call the pharmacy after midnight...no one answers! I've seen a lot of negative reviews for this Giant going back a few years. Things to know about this Giant. 1. It's open 24/7 2. It's located right next to Walter Johnson High School 3. Which means you probably don't want to come around lunch time... or after school around 2:20pm. 4. And you'll probably want to avoid it till like 4pm-ish. 5. And the produce is always... eh I'm sorry you're definitely not my first choice for Grocery Stores Giant. For some reason there has been significant staff turnover in the Old Georgetown Road pharmacy department causing lack of well trained staff. On the job training does not seem to be the best approach to improving the service provided. Employees are pleasant but "running around in circles". I would recommend some better attention to this department by management. I'm confident the pharmacy staff would appreciate it as would their customers. read more

The store is conveniently on one of my walking paths & serves as a good pit stop to pick up a few basic items. However, the customer service kicks rocks. I tell myself, "MK, go back & try it again", yet & still the same horrible service. To add insult to my fresh fish injury, why was the seafood counter employee cleaning the display glass with glass cleaner while the fish was still out? Perhaps waiting until the seafood department closes & the seafood is put away before performing the breakdown & cleaning duties would be beneficial & non-hazardous. & for the quick in a hurry customers, don't get your hopes up for the expedient process of Self Checkout, so many issues & the constant need to request for assistance. In which that lone person is nowhere close. I usually have an OK market experience with other Giant locations, this one needs to do better. read more

This store has the worst customer service and the customer service manager David Axelrod apparently controls the store manager. He let me know that, he told his store manager (Mike) that he was not going to "deal with me." I have yet to see a functioning company have staff dictate to the manager what they are willing to do. Consistently they would leave items out of my online shop and expect me to be inconvenienced and return to pick them up without any accommodation. I spent hours with customer service letting them know about my experience and requested a call from the regional manager due to Axelrod apparently having a relationship with his store manager that he was comfortable that he would not be held accountable for his actions. As of yet about 3 months later, I have not been contacted. Stay away from this store if you expect good service or quality. It is also not a clean place. read more

Used the self-checkout, one item rang up twice, I was in a rush so I went to another register and rang myself up and left. Then an employee hollered across the parking lot to me that I didn't pay for my items. Then she gave me an attitude about not letting her know I switched registers. This review concerns Giant pharmacy. Zero stars!! Awful awful pharmacy, clueless incompetent staff and the pharmacists are useless!! They are of no help and if there's any issue they pass it. To the associates to handle who are just as clueless!! No customer service skills or basic common sense! I tried to receive prescribed medicine for two days in a row. First day pharmacist told me when I came that they have medicine I asked for. I asked doctor to send them a prescription. When they get it next morning another pharmacist told me that they do not have medicine because it is in back fill. When I asked why pharmacist who was there the day before confirmed that they have this medicine he told me that pharmacist who was there yesterday is not a member of pharmacy's staff. In a pharmacy? Are you kidding me? If you want to deal with this and become frustrated dreading when you do have to go to pick up a prescription from this pharmacy then come here! Here is my conclusion.. Been going to this Giant grocery store for over 20 years and every single time, it is so packed! I think it's definitely one of the most busiest and crowded stores around the area. Parking can be a hassle at times, tons of people inside everywhere and lines at the registers are ridiculously long, too! It is very convenient since the store does have almost everything in stock, so there are a lot of choices. But sometimes, it can be a little stressful with so many people around, which can make grocery shopping a little tiring. Overall, it's a pretty good store. read more

This Giant food is disgusting. I went here after work to pick up a few things because it's close to my job. I want to start by saying this is a very small location compared to other Giants in the area. The aisles are small and narrow. Their selection of produce and other things were poor. There employees lack basic customer service skills and there customers are very unfriendly. I will not be returning to this Giant for any reason. I was very underwhelmed and disappointed. This Giant is in an affluent area so I would expect better. If you're in the area. I would recommend the Giant on Montrose road or even the location in Wheaton is better. read more

Went in and shopped for 1 hour and noticed I left my wallet in the car asked the woman cashier at register 13 if I could leave my stuff at the register while I grab my Wellet from the car she said "Yes" literally not ever 4 min later all my stuff was gone and the same lady at register 13 said "I was at break" literally the same woman that she was checking out before me as I left she was still ringing up the same customer. This location is a lot smaller than other ones in the area. It is located on Old Georgetown Road at the intersection of Demorcracy Blvd. Its really convenient for anyone heading in or out of Bethesda. What I dont understand about this Giant is how it is located in such a nice area yet it's a mess? I put a lot of my supermarket preferences on a locations produce. I can substitute most other things for different brands, sizes, flavors etc. If I cant purchase the produce that I need, then it's been a waste of a trip for me. It seems that without fail, every time I go to this location one or several of the produce items that I need is rotten. Not just one bad one with a sore spot rotten... but look through the section and can't find even one that's passable. Since this area is pretty convenient for me, it's frustrating to not be able to purchase everything I need. Its worth the hike down Old Georgetown to go to the Giant in the Montrose shopping center. They have a bigger selection, it's a more modern layout, and you can typically pick out your produce without having to worry too much. read more

We came in with grocery list but only left with it partially filled. They didn't stock whole wheat flour or unsweetened organic soy milk, the (limited) tea selection was scattered in three section of the store, cheese was in two different areas (goat cheese is by the deli) and very limited organic produce. Surprisingly, some of the pricing was higher than Moms Organic as well. Limited selection of feminine hygiene items as well but lots of toothbrushes to choose from. If you're looking for COVID-19 vaccine, AVOID THIS PLACE. After being addressed 30min. past the appointment time, we were asked "what vaccine do you want?" We asked the pharmacist what she recommended. She only repeated "which one do you want?" I picked Moderna, my wife picked Pfizer. 20 min. go by and they are ready for the shot. Before the shot, the pharmacist asked my wife again "which one do you want?" She confirmed Pfizer... to which he answered "well, you asked for Moderna earlier, you have to make up your mind lady!" On top of the rude tone, either he wrote the wrong thing or read the wrong sheet... Either way, do you really want that person to handle your drugs? read more

This review is specifically for the pharmacy. I have/had been a customer for many years but gradually transferred my prescriptions to other pharmacies because trying to fill any of my prescriptions there requires an average of three visits. The specific nature of the problem varies, but that there will be a problem is a near certainty. I do not have problems with any other pharmacies. I recently tried to fill a prescription for diabetes testing supplies for my mother - something that was never a problem at other pharmacies - and four days, multiple visits to the pharmacy and my mother's doctor, and at least 36 telephone calls later, I still haven't been able to fill the simple - but urgent - prescription. Giant has its own ideas of exactly how the prescription needs to be written (they keep referring to test strips as "drugs" when they are actually DME, so that might be part of the problem), so my mother's poor doctor rewrote and resubmitted the prescription multiple times to try to satisfy Giant's unique requirements, eventually resorting to writing it out by hand and faxing it rather than submitting it electronically, because it was literally impossible to satisfy this pharmacy by using its electronic system. My son, whose full-time job is preparing prescriptions for DME, tells me the original prescription was fine (it included all information required in Medicare rules for diabetes testing supplies) and that Giant is simply jerking me around. Perhaps Giant makes up its own rules so that no judgment of any kind is required of its pharmacy employees? In any case, I refuse to use Giant pharmacy again for any purpose. Life is too short to keep banging my head against that wall. read more

There is a hot bar, mostly wings, but it is only open 11-2:30 and 4-7 maybe? The is no hot food at the deli counter. The prepackaged chicken is almost always 8 pieces, if you are 1 person you might only want 2 pieces. There is no obvious public restroom, it maybe in the back but I didn't see signs. I was looking for a certain type of chips and I asked the employee to confirm they were sold out, and he immedicately suggested a different product. I didn't want a different product, I wanted to know the availability of this item. More price scanners in the aisles would be helpful. There is only 1 at the entrance where the handheld scanners are, but I didn't want a handheld scanner. The prices on the in store bakery breads are in tiny print on the close tab, hard to see. (This is true for every store.) There are a few scattered prices listed but it is inconsistent. This location is convenient to Walter Johnson High School, Davis Library, DSW, and the beltway. Giant now sells Bens Chili Bowl Chili, both prepackaged and self serve hot near the hot bar. Gives it a real local vibe. Giant does not sell nissin chow mein, although they sell other nissin products. The chow mein is great and they should add it. read more

I have been going to this pharmacy for 2 decades, and have used a prescription discount card for more than 5 years, which they have honored. I went to get a prescription refilled today and the lead pharmacy came over to me and coldly told me that she will not honor it because it is a controlled substance.....ok.... I went to check out and while I was unloading my groceries onto conveyor belt the cashier turned off his light and said he was closed to which I replied, while we are in the line. Everything is always sold out they are very slow on restocking their shelves and however I understand that we are in a pandemic but every other giant in the area has a far more options available, this one just happens to be the closest to my house which is unfortunate for me because I don't know how many times I've left empty-handed because they haven't had items that I needed.
