It's also annoying to see that the employees use a couple for their own purposes, so there are even fewer in rotation than there could be. Safety first! Stopped at the deli last night and the young man behind the counter was cleaning up. He approached us and we advised what we needed. As he walked to get the food items, I watched and waited to see if he'd change his gloves; he didn't. So we asked him to do so. He also had his mask on his chin instead of his mouth/nose. We maintained our distance and surely had on our masks. The young man began to cut the meat and placed the meat on the scale, he then disappeared with the meat still on the square. We stood there waiting for him to return, unsure if he went to the bathroom, a break or home he walked away without communicating. Finally he returned with a box in hand; it was the baggies for the meat. No problem. He took a bag out the box and then picked up the meat to place in the bag. Second time he didn't feel it was necessary to change his gloves. No problem. I told hubby let's go, meat isn't that important because I'm not going to explain to someone how they need to do their job. I'm sure he was advised when he signed up for it. This is my local Giant grocery store. This Giant is a small, older neighborhood store that serves the upper Lake Ridge area. You are not going to find a whole lot of bells and whistles here, just your typical grocery store with all the essentials. Produce and meats are stocked, everything is fresh - just not a whole lot of selections to choose from. Service is average, the people there are friendly enough. Bathrooms are in the back and the store is kept clean. Parking lot can be a little hectic during peak hours. read more

Went to the grocery store for beer and cake (mandatory supplies on this 48 hour stretch of important birthdays in our house). As the teen/20-something cashier was checking the folks in front of me out, his manager came over and said "I have to keep you late tonight because I had a girl not show up today. I gotta check how late, but you're staying late." The other young male cashier in the next lane is also being kept late. Clearly disappointed, the young guy said softly "I'll have to make some calls. I had plans with my family to go into DC for the fireworks." I don't know if the other young man had plans, but on 4th of July, it's safe to assume. Leaders. Bosses. Managers. HUMANS. There is a nearly infinite list of better ways to approach this. Even if she doesnt care about her employees' private lives, she could have at least acknowledged that they HAVE lives outside a part-time job at Giant. I'm still fuming as I write this. The list of reasons this is utter garbage is too long to even attempt. We've all been there. We've all felt powerless at work, in life. But DANG, lady, just a tiny bit of humanity would have gone a long way to keeping the loyalty and motivation of those two kids. It's no wonder the other employee didn't bother to show up! I live 1.5 miles from this Giant. I remember when it was open back in 1987, it was great. Not anymore. Although they just finished remodeling it nothing has change since it went down hill. The butcher shop is not as good as it used to be. It the old days they used to make their own sausage and pack their own meats. Not anymore. Everything is pre-pack. Although they are trying to return to the old fashion butcher shop and have some meats that appear to be "fresh" is not the same. The prepared food section is nothing like the original. When it opened they used to have all kinds of FRESHLY prepared foods for you to take home. Now their big thing rotisserie chicken. Price wise it is more expensive than Wegmans. I only go to this Giant now as a last resource (i.e. ran out of milk) and even then I will give Blooms a first crack. read more

Every so often when I have to go there, they either don't have it or it's hard to find...or in the case of sushi....was told three different locations and finally found the ONE sushi they had in the entire store that was probably 10 days old. i've been using the Giant pharmacy here for ten years and this is the first time i've had problems with them...great service, customer interactions, very professional but they are lagging behind getting prescriptions filled as they are back logged with covid and flu vaccines and the pharmacist is the only one who can give vaccines. suggest hiring an extra person who just gives vaccines so the pharmacist can care foe pharmacy patients. otherwise i love the store, their service and selection read more

I was there today to purchase two slabs of St. Louis ribs, however I needed them cut right down the middle. I wanted ribbit. The staff here are absolutely obnoxious. My Mom & I have many horror stories to share & I am just completely fed up. Not like anyone cares. However, I feel like leaving a review cause of it. Let's start. Their baggers are completely inept and I recognize some of them may not be able to help that, but if you can't handle working the job then you shouldn't do it. However, with most of them I think it's just cause they're assholes. Yeah I said it, ASSHOLES! This one girl completely jacked up bagging my Mom's cart, that all of my Mom's groceries ended up flipping in the parking lot. Our eggs were completely broken & our drinks were completely busted. And NO REFUNDS. Apparently the girl had got one of our groceries stuck in the wheel of the cart. Not the only story I have to share. Another time I had this older woman with red hair start speaking to me as though I was some teenager, and making me out to be a mooch on my Mom. AT THE CHECKOUT. I am 20 years old and a co owner to a business. I am no mooch. I've worked since I was 3. How dare you. And she started to complain about how I was just being a teen today on my phone rather than helping her bag the groceries. Excuse me but, we didn't do self check out. We went through with a bagger to be helpful to those in retail who are being put out of business because of those self check out machines. Next time, I will use those so you can lose your job. And here's another story, this one woman who I assume to be Muslim because she had a hijab on, started to scold my Mom for not helping her bag groceries. I had to rush over and help. Listen baggers if you're reading this, it is your job to bag groceries, not the customer. Why are you a BAGGER if you don't wanna bag? It is clean and convenient. The staff is friendly and I can usually get in and out pretty quickly. There isn't too much variety in the herb section which I guess is understandable since it isn't too busy at this location. They also offer local produce which I love! Don't buy their rotisserie chicken from the back though. I did twice as a last minute dinner since I live about a mile away and both times they were burnt and dry. New to the area, and trying very hard to find a one stop shopping grocery store. Decided to stop here and pick up a few of my weekly necessities, which are coffee creamer, horizons organic chocolate milk, sunny d, juice boxes..... The only item they carried was coffee creamer, so I picked up two since there was about 50 signs on them advertising that they were on sale. I picked up one item not in my list due to a sale sign, and after paying for three items I realized that not one item I purchased rang up correctly, so I had to wait in another line to get my money back. I often shop at Giants, and I say this primarily just to encourage them to do better. First, I try to always return shopping carts, but I noticed that all the return racks are located near the store. If I am that close, I can return it to the store myself. Where these are needed are areas far from the store. Are these places for the convenience of the customer or the employee? The other thing that bothers me is a recent innovation, which involves forcing customers not only to unload all the groceries onto the conveyer belt, but now we must also load the groceries back onto the cart after the groceries are bagged. Again, I know how this is a good deal for the employee, but in what world would this ever be considered a convenience for the customer. That being said, most of the employees are quite nice and friendly, and I still shop there, but only when I feel like handling the groceries a lot. read more

They have the usual products that you can find within the chain. The variety is amazing as usual. The prices were fair on most items although a few products are pricey. The employees are nice for the most part and the lines move pretty quickly. My main complaint about this location is that it is difficult to find things if you are not already familiar with this store. The signs telling you what you can find within the aisles are incorrect on some. I walked around the store for quite some time before I found what I came for. This review is not towards the store which is actually pretty decent, but for this instance just had, I love that they have self checkout here. But this evening is the first time I have every been to any giant where the staff or cashiers who were monitoring the self checkout didn't help customers with bagging some of their items while checking out. There was atleast 3 staff members in the purple shirts who I assume were managers just standing around watching & talking. Well let me take that back one did manage to push my items more toward the bagging area. read more

Update 2/20/16: Still a great store. Yes, Giant corporate has decided to not have individual stores cut meat--it all comes pre-cut. Not a big deal to me, although it was nice to have them cut 1.5" steaks before. But I just enjoy the store a great deal. 2/28/15: This is my grocery store of choice in this neighborhood. I've been going here since 1999. I try other stores, but always end up coming back here. Very friendly staff. Good sales. Great, helpful butcher. Produce tends to be fresh, the deli is great, the store is clean and well stocked. No, it's not Wegman's, but who wants to drive the extra 10 miles roundtrip to pick up a few items? I moved to the area 1 & 1/2 years ago. Found there were 4 grocery stores in my imediate area, so gave them all a try. I originally found this Giant to be a good store, tho prices were not always cheapest of the 4 stores I shop, but was clean, neat, and cashiers generally friendly & helpful. However, something seems to have changed recently, and the customer service is the basic change, and for the worse. I shop with ads, I calculate what I intend to spend before I enter a store, and as I shop, I note on my list the shelf price, times the number of the items I pickup. I know, aside from the tax amount, before I get to the register what my bill will be. Today, 02/10/2016, I did as I usually do, had 15 items in all, 8 of which were on sale in their 80th Birthday Sale ad, one bargan shelf item, 2 bargan meat items, and 2 regular price items. At the checkout, the clerk seemed confused while entering my items in her computer, and then the amount came up to high. I questioned the amount, she rechecked, and told me 4 of my sale items could not be bought at the sale price. I showed her the ad, and specifically the items in question, and she then called another clerk over, who also seemed confused. They called a 3rd clerk over, who rechecked my items again, and the total came out about right, but then a 4th clerk came over, rechecked the items again, and the price came up higher than the 2nd recheck. I requested a manager to somehow rectify this situation, which then, after a wait, he came to the register area, and when I told him my side, he didnt seem to care. My items had been checked & rechecked 4 different times, each time with a different total. I asked him why, he could not give me an answer,nor could the register manager, much less the clerks, whom had gone elsewhere by now. Finally, the register manager just subtracted what I said was the amount that was higher than the cheapest total, and finished the transaction, telling me she just did that to make me happy, not that it was done correctly, or that anything was done to make sure this didnt happen to the next person. As a past customer service trainer, I found this entire situation appalling, no apology, although the store manager did agree I had the sale price and rules correct, and basically, they just wanted me out of the store. I am doubtful I will return to this store again anytime soon, and while my purchase amounts will make little difference to the store's profits, if they continue such practices with other shoppers, I am sure shoppers will begin to go elsewhere. read more

I have been shopping at this Giant for six years now. When I first began coming, it was more of an adventure as it was our first time buying a home and I thought it was a regular, decent grocery store. As the years went by, it became more of a convenience. It was close by, and I had memorized the aisles to know where everything was to make my shopping quick and efficient. Now that I have grown and experienced other grocery stores, I have realized this store lacks many things that should be standard. The produce is, on average, below standard. We spend 80% of our money in the produce section and too many times I have been disappointed with a tasteless watermelon, bananas that go from green to dark brown, and blueberries that mold within a day. As a result, I am the lady in the produce section squishing fruit for 15 minutes to ensure I do not waste my money on on-the-verge-of-spoiling fruit. Then there is the dairy. So many times I have been burned by expired yogurt and eggs. I purchase the items, believing that they are fresh, and come home to find that my dairy items expired two weeks prior! I became so irritated that I actually returned a large 2lb container of yogurt in which I was told I may swap out. When I went back to pick up a new one, I found that all of the yogurts were expired. Then there are the discrepancies in the pricing. I have come back many times to have a price adjustment on my receipt (one time I was charged 3.99/lb for Honeycrisp apples when I bought the cheaper Gala apples that should have been 1.99/lb). This becomes a large inconvenience, especially if you have kids in tow and are trying to get your shopping done in a timely manner. At first, I thought I was being too snobby. Maybe I need to lower my standards for produce, and maybe it is my job to search for those little expiration dates on every item I purchase. But when I go to Wegmans, I do not have to do any of those things. And somehow, my bill comes out the equivalent in price when I purchase the same items that I buy at Giant. While it is close by and less crowded, the issues I have tried to overlook over the years trumps distance and waiting. Plus, Wegmans bags your groceries at check out which seems to be a rarity at Giant. On the plus side, many of the employees are genuinely nice..... read more

I have been going to this Giant for over 15 yrs, and will continue to do so. The people there are helpful, friendly and professional. The isles are not crowed, veggie and fruit sections are always clean, well stocked. I have tried a couple of the other giants in the area and they just don't compare to the lake ridge one on Hedges Run Drive. Rarely is a time I can't find what I want or need. This is the best neighborhood grocery store I have ever gone to. read more
