We've always loved Giant Oak Winery -- especially their Cab Franc, which has been a favorite of ours for years -- so when they opened a restaurant, we could NOT wait to try it. And wow... absolutely delicious! We happily grabbed a bottle of their Cab Franc to enjoy with dinner and it paired perfectly with everything. We started with the ricotta toast: homemade ricotta, sun-dried tomatoes, roasted red peppers, and garlic oil. Absolutely delicious. I honestly never even knew homemade ricotta could taste THAT good! For dinner, I got the salmon special with a white wine sauce over a bed of chickpea ragù, and I seriously could not stop eating it. So flavorful and perfectly cooked. The fettuccine Alfredo with chicken was INSANE -- rich, fresh, creamy, and you could immediately tell the Alfredo sauce was homemade and made fresh to order... definitely not from a jar. Soooo good! One of the best parts was the chef personally making rounds to check on guests and get feedback. Every table seemed to have nothing but positive things to say. Even thought this place isn't super fancy, I really enjoyed this winery experience. The wines were good and the options were extensive. The owner is super wonderful. He personally greeted my party when we arrived and even offered us some free samples. Our server was very attentive. Perhaps a little too much at the beginning. My party felt a bit rushed when making our selections. The only other not ideal thing was when we ran out of dippers for the baked brie we were given a hard time when we asked for more bread. We were given two slices of baguette. That was odd. On the bright side, the baked brie was delish!! I left typsy and full with a smile on my face. I'm very content with my experience there. We had a wonderful experience at Giant Oaks, and it exceeded our expectations! Lou, the owner and winemaker, came over to our table to acquaint us with his wines, moonshine, and slushies. I didn't plan to buy a bottle of wine or to try a slushy, but I did both. We had a Groupon for the no food drink tasting that included five one-ounce tastings from their extensive list of wine and a three-ounce wine slushy (I had the white lightning, which tasted like a yummy pear refresher.) The tasting also came with a glass of wine of our choice from our tasting. We tried 10 different wines between the two of us, and we preferred the reds. Lou uses grapes from places like California, Chile, and Washington, among others, and the wines capture the taste of the terroir of those regions. I did not expect to find in Pennsylvania! Wow! We enjoyed our tasting with the white and dark chocolate covered popcorn. It was such a nice match with the wines. Seating is available inside and outside. Lots of seating! Artwork decorates the walls, and musicians are often performing inside, with music piped outside too so everyone can enjoy! It looks like they have party rooms too. I am so glad we randomly stopped at Giant Oaks Winery! This winery is family owned and operated. We were immediately greeted by the owner, Lou, when we entered. He introduced us to his wife and his sister-in-law as well, which definitely made us feel welcomed! Lou explained the wine tastings to us, and we chose to do the $0.50 samples. You can sample 1/2 ounce of any wine for only $0.50! I ended up trying mostly reds because he said they were his speciality. While we were sampling, we ordered a pepperoni pizza and the hummus plate. The hummus was delicious, but it definitely wasn't spicy like the menu read. The pizza was good, but it was definitely on the small side. We ended up adding a cheese/fruit plate because we were still hungry. We all got a glass of wine or a wine slushee. The Rose Slushee was to die for! It wasn't super sweet like other ones I've had. Let's discuss the space. This was space was absolutely beautiful. The seating areas, the artwork was amazing. Now let's get into the wines. There was not one that I didn't enjoy. The prices are reasonable. There is also wine slush available for those looking for something to cool off. There are PA brand beers and liquor available for non wine drinkers. you really gotta try this place! there's always something going on from music to parties to fundraisers & more! if you like a crowd come for anything they do! if you're not a crowd person, like me & my hubby tom, try to come in the "off" times. when there's not a crowd & you sit at the bar, lou takes great care of you! i can't tell you how many samples of wine & moonshine we had, but they were all delicious!! we decided that we would get a different glass of red each time we ordered. we started with a petit verdot & a chilean red blend. marvelous! we ordered a charcuterie tray & a cellar blend & a zinfandel. the tray comes for 2 or 4. we got the 2 person of course, which was a good idea cuz it's pretty big! 4 cheeses, 4 meats, accompaniments & a couple pieces of chocolate to finish! the wine went down smooth & easy! which meant 2 more! the 2 cabs-red hills & alexander. what a delightful finish! every single red we tried was some of the best we've tried. remember, he has the grapes shipped from california, washington, etc. so, when we left, we left with a case! 7 different bottles of red & 3 mini bottles of moonshine! lou told us to mix some salted caramel with the apple pie! mmm! I took my elderly parents here for a local non-profit event. While we were there, I heard the man I assume is the owner lose his cool over a plant that was moved from a table to the floor. I was appalled by the level of anger that he had over such a small matter. Not to mention, as I am ordering wine and food with my mother, he is behind the bar loudly calling the people hosting the event "ignorant mother f*$#*%#", saying he is "steamed", and can't believe that he has to deal with this other word for "stuff". That is only a portion of what he was saying. All of this over a plant. I can only imagine if he has this much anger and rage over a plant what his reaction would be to a complaint or request. Very disappointed as I had hoped to find a new local establishment to go to. I highly recommend that you take your business elsewhere. read more

This was a cute winery that I didn't even know existed until the other day! Right near trax farms where I go all the time! Glad we stumbled upon it. The servers were very friendly and helpful, but it was a busy night so sometimes we were waiting a while. They had live music on a Friday and everyone seemed to really enjoy it! You can get wine and whiskey flights which is fun! We ordered spinach dip which was good and a cheese board. For $22 the cheese board was very lackluster. I truly do not believe that was worth more than $12 so hopefully next time it's better. My favorite thing was the wine slushy. They had a bunch of flavors and they all tasted great. The winery has been opened for 4 days. This was our first visit to the winery. We were looking forward to a winery only down the street from our house. They have many wines available 16 different wines. Two white wines and the rest is red wines. They range from California to South America, where the grapes originate from. The prices are a bit steep for the area. Traditionally prices are closer to 15-22 per bottle. However since the grapes are from different regions that tends to be the difference from what I've gathered. The downside for me was that you can only sample 3-4 1 oz pours. Like myself, I will purchase bottles but really like to sample the wine, willing to pay the cost for the samples. I had tried a few, but then purchased a glass for the others that I wasn't sure of. However the lady waiting on us was pleasant and allowed me to sample it. They did have a pre selection of a flight, in which would go over better if you got to choose which one you want. I have been to over 200+ wineries from California to the Finger Lakes. I know what works and what people like. Now the wine was very good from what I tried. Merlot Carmenere Blend, both Cabs and Sangiovese Reserve were excellent. I purchased a couple bottles, allowing myself to come back and try the others. :) The owner and wine maker was pleasant. He stopped by and introduced himself. I like the winery, good blends, but please don't be like Narcisi Winery with the wine sampling. Provide an opportunity to sample all with a cost of $1 per 1-3 oz taste and or waived if purchase of a bottle. No lost in wine. read more

I am a local girl that lives in Vegas. Me and my husband came here while on summer break on a recommendation. We got to meet the owner/wine maker (not always the same). He was very knowledgeable about wine and was able to explain all his wines and processes in full. There was a huge list of wines to choose from. The flights were a great option if it's your first time. We had one flight with charcuterie and one without. That was a great combo! We will 100% be back before we go back to Vegas. My wife and I just came back from our first trip to Giant Oaks Winery, and we were very impressed. The location is convenient with plenty of easy parking. The atmosphere is warm and inviting with several repurposed wine barrels- turned-tables and comfortable seating. The winery doubles as an art gallery, featuring art-for-sale from several local artists. Lou, the owner, greeted us at the door and again at our table to explain the food and drink menu and tasting options. He was very friendly, very knowledgeable, and exactly the kind of small business owner you'd love to support. The large selection of wines was also impressive. The best of the afternoon was the selection of moonshine. Of the few we could responsibly sample on the trip, we fell in love with the Apple Pie, Creamsicle, and Elderberry. Come to Finleyville and check out this new winery! You will not be disappointed. The atmosphere is relaxing, the decor well done, and there are plenty of tables and room at the bar to hang out. There is even a deck for when the weather gets warmer. I am not typically a red wine drinker, but I liked some of the wines I tasted at Giant Oaks (50 cents per taste), my favorite being the Merlot. If you're not a fan of wine, they also have beer and whiskey (Liberty Pole). The owners are very friendly and we had some nice conversation with them. Lou (owner) is super nice and puts his own spin on each of the wines.
