I was verbally assaulted by two employees from Giants and I have talked to the General Manager gave him my contact information still waiting for a response I also contacted the Corporate Office and I talked to the General Manager Landover Maryland and at least he sounds sincere this Giants Food Market on H street has to many Disrespectful employees working for them something needs to be done about this until I see a change I am taking my Money up the street to Harris Teeter and Trader Joe's where I can be and get the Respect I Deserve read more

So this is your normal grocery store. It's close to my house, so I go there. It's basically fine, except they run out of stuff all the time. I went there at 6pm on a weekday night, and they were completely out of these basic produce items: - cauliflower - cilantro - fresh ginger - loose yellow onions I went back the next morning figuring they would have restocked, and they were JUST finally starting to. They were still out of both onions and ginger, but the produce manager helped me hunt down some cilantro. That's nice I guess, but it really shouldn't be this hard to get basic produce at a chain grocery store like this. read more

I'm basing my review on my two interactions with this new Giant on H. I had such high expectation for this grocery store since it is brand new and 24 hours but I have overall been let down. The first time I went to this Giant I stopped by before my friend's 4th of July cookout for some hamburger and hot dog buns. Can you believe their shelves were completely devoid of any buns? I mean it is the biggest day for cooking out. You don't think you could have planned a little bit better to have some on stock for some last minute purchases? Luckily, one of the employees was able to wrangle me up some buns that were left in an abandoned cart but I feel that in cases like this when you know are going through a lot of something, you should be better prepared, especially since this store is new. My second interaction with this Giant occurred when I was helping my friend move out of Senate Square, the apartment complex next door. While my husband and I were looking for a place to park the rent-a-cop ran out of the Giant and screamed, literally SCREAMED for us to move our car. No courtesy, no customer service, no polite asking. This security guard was straight up rude. It's not like we meant to piss him off. If I was Giant I wouldn't want this person to be any way related to my company. Unfortunately, this interaction put a sour taste in my mouth and since my friend who lives next door has since moved out I doubt that I'll be going there again. read more

This store is fairly small but has a decent selection (when you don't go during their busy hours). FYI, the best times to shop here are early in the morning and at night. I've gone shopping here at Saturday morning and weeknights after 8 pm and this place is peaceful. They may run out of stuff but this place restocks things often. The staff is really nice too. There is also free parking. read more

This Giant is definitely my preferred grocery store in this part of town. The employees are outstanding - so willing to help, always saying hello, and they know the store very well. The produce section has great variety, is well stocked, avid has good deals. You must get the club card to get the deals, and sometimes items like meat and produce are twice as much without it. This Giant would be five stars if only it had a full pharmacy. read more

Awful customer service! Went in here at 4pm looking for help finding something specific and no one would help me out. Asked 4 different people. One girl called me racist for just asking her a question. I walked out and didn't even buy something. I will go a few blocks away to another grocery store before I go here again and be treated with disrespect. I hope this place gets better management in here soon. read more

I was excited when this location opened because there are not many choices for grocery stores on the hill. Previously we had been going to Safeway (potomac ave), but unsatisfied we switched to Harris Teeter (much more expensive). I was hopeful Giant was the answer, but alas, this location is just blah. The produce section leaves much to be desired. They have a very small selection of everything and don't carry things like clementines or other standard produce. The deli has a great selection and it's great the beer and wine are integrated in the store so you don't have to make a separate purchase like at Safeway. The rest of the store is ok. I was disappointed they don't really carry larger size products such as shampoo and conditioner. The checkout lines are very slow. The cashiers do not pack your groceries until they've scanned everything through which adds at least 5 minutes to your checkout time. They also pack things incorrectly. I'm a stickler about how my groceries are pack and I even put them up in the order they belong, but each time I get home my meat is sitting in the bag with cheese and produce. Every time I pack my groceries myself the cashiers get defensive and one time I had a cashier start to take things out of my bags and repack them in the one in front of her. Not sure what that was about, but either way, someone needs to teach them how to properly pack groceries. After trying out Giant for a few weeks we ultimately decided to return to Safeway. They have better deals and more weekly coupons. They also have a better gas rewards program. We've decided to only return back to Giant when we need to purchase beer or wine for the week. read more

I love having this grocery store around the corner from my apartment! It's so convenient and they usually have everything that I am looking for. However, every once in a while I have to sneak over to the NoMa Harris Teeter if this Giant doesn't stock something. The produce is all very good, I have not really had a problem there. The only problem I have had with this store is the deli. They have a ticket system where you can place your order and then continue shopping and come back for the deli order later (usually 15-20 minutes). However, every time I have used this, I come to the counter 15 minutes later and they are not busy, but they have not filled my order. So then I have to stand around for another few minutes to be waited on for an order I already placed. The system is a great idea, but it is poorly executed. All in all it is a nice grocery store and I rarely have to wait in long check out lines even during peak hours. read more

I'm on the fence about this grocery store, but I'm going to round up, because I see the potential. The aisles are small and crowded. And, even on a fairly empty grocery day, I felt like I was crawling over people. Most of that is because they stuffed crap IN the aisles. What is this, Wal-Mart? Still, the inventory looks decent. The produce looks fairly nice. I like the innovative "shop with a scan gun" attempt at making it easier to check out. The folks up front were super-nice and actually willing to explain the checkout options. However, I can't go above 3 stars until you clear inventory out of the aisles. It's just impossible to navigate a (small) cart and get out of the way of other shoppers at the same time. I hope they take care of that soon! read more

I shop here often on the way to work in the morning. Typically 3 of the 5 mornings. Customer service is generally just OK, never great. This morning I stood at service counter while 4 employees stood right next to me and chatted. 3 of the 4 made eye contact with me, but none offered assistance. So, I'm not sure why it took me so long to go this Giant, but I'm glad I checked out the reviews which made me decide to try it out this weekend! Firstly, as others mentioned, much more budget friendly than Safeway and Harris Teeter. I also feel like the produce area is fresher than the Safeway I normally go to (14th and D). Of course it's a new development so it's shiny and pretty. But, I also really liked the layout of the store and the customer service (service counter for bonus card guy could have been a bit friendlier but meh, no biggie; check out lady was super nice and reminded me of gas card points AND I had no idea but she also said they give the 5 cent discount for bringing your own bags in; deli counter lady was nice and quick too). They also have a whole aisle dedicated to all things organic/vegan etc. So it's easy to find stuff. I am not vegan or strictly organic but this section makes me want to try some things out just b/c its well organized and all in one place. I put my bonus card in last and so I saw my bill drop $30! It was my standard 2 weeks worth of grocery shopping fresh fruits, veggies, and dairy stuff like cheese, juice, milk, also cereal and general grocery stuff. I bought disposable paper goods (their store brand is a good $2 less than fancy brand not just like 50 cents difference) I definitely would have spent more at Safeway for all that stuff. Their ethnic aisle is also pretty good BUT def a bit more overpriced than maybe Shoppers in VA on Route 1 by the Target or H mart, etc. Still, good to know they have a good selection of items available. Parking in the garage was a breeze (on a Sunday around 11 a.m. which usually tends to be very busy at most stores). They have the small carts and large carts. I wish their pre-made salad section was larger - Safeway has a lot of options for that which I like to bring to work for lunch (instead of paying $10 for salad pay $4-$5). I'm hoping it is consistent so I'll update this review accordingly in a few months. read more

Ok, as promised I made another trip to Giant when they weren't so overwhelmed with the Sunday rush. I was greeted at the door by an employee and the store was in much better condition, especially produce. I'm not one to put a lot of stock in a fact-specific rant of other Yelpers myself so I'm following up with a more general review that while prices of some items in compared were just as high as Whole Foods, Giant has a lot of everyday brands you can't get at the fancier place down the road. read more

When following a detour route heading east on I street the instructions tell you to take a right on 3rd street. After doing so a "security" officer jumped out of a red nissan and screamed at us for trying to drive south on 3rd street. She argued with us as we tried to explain the detour sign clearly indicates a right turn. Her rudeness not only epitomizes Giant but customer service in all of DC which is EAST COAST RUDENESS WITH A SOUTHERN SENSE OF URGENCY. Thanks but no thanks Giant. I attended the grand opening when this location opened. Giant used to send coupon booklets (sometimes there were freebies). There is a mixture of excitement about working here. Some employees gather in twos or threes and chat while I walk by them. On my most recent visit, I stood by the customer service counter while the only employee behind it chatted with a friend (I left). I seem to pick shipment day, where the aisles are crowded with large bins of items that people are restocking. At least the employees in the aisles are nice and will say hi. The selection of produce isn't as varied as Safeway down the street, but it is okay. When the other closest Giant was being torn down and rebuilt, I would pop in from time to time at this location. If i am in the area and need an item, I will visit. Parking is free (a luxury downtown) and convenient. I usually see at least one staffer monitoring the garage. The deli staff recognize regulars and are friendly. There is an entire aisle dedicated to organic and healthy choices. Plan your visits like rush hour and don't go during the busiest hours (early is better). The place doesn't knock my socks off, but it does rub my feet....... read more

Two stars for convenience only. Last week, the store was out of lemons. This week, they were out of 75% of their produce, and no small cartons of milk could be found. The cucumber I bought had to be thrown out, it was sour!! I don't know what's going on with this particular location (are they closing?? I didn't see any signs), but things need to be better! The service is hit or miss as well. The girl who rang up my groceries seemed annoyed that she actually had to do her job. Good luck to this place when the Whole Foods down the street opens. I'm sure I speak for many when I say I'll likely be bringing my business there instead, even if it's a little more expensive. read more

,This is a very poorly run supermarket, and it has been since the day it opened. Most of the time I have poor experiences here, but as it's the only supermarket within walking distance to me, I'm a captive audience. Today was particularly poor and frustrating; enough so that I decided to write this review, in the vague hope that something may improve. 1. Every single time - without fail - I go to buy fat free store brand greek yogurt, it's not stocked on shelves (i.e. it's so popular it's sold out) - I spend about 10 minutes trying to find someone to get some from out back, and then I get the yogurt I came in for. However today, I search out someone (who happens to be in dairy section) - and they tell me "there is none." When I explain, that I come here twice a week and there is always some out back, she says "well I don't work in this section, and I'm off duty." So I go to customer service to ask, and without looking at a computer or anything immediately reply "there is none." 2. There is never anyone working on the checkouts when you go late in evening. You have no choice but to use self service, even though there are still lots of people hanging out in customer service. I used the self check out, and when i'd finished, I was printed out a COMPLETELY BLANK receipt. 3. The produce section, especially the veggies are poorly stocked, and often the broccoli is yellow and nasty. I've been tying to get squeezable ginger for months, and it's never there - just one example of the unreliable stocking of the store. In general, whenever you ask a a question in store you get the response "it's not my department" - it's very un-customer friendly. I also have a pet peeve that there are 2 doors in store - one on 3rd st and one on 4th st. The one on 4th street is always locked, except for people who have a pass. and I just consider this another slap in face to customers who are forced to come to this awful store because there is no where else to go. Finally, if you're unfortunate enough to go during peak times, you'll be treated with long waits at the check outs. Typically there are only 2 (3 max) check outs open - clearly you would provide a better service to customers if you opened more check outs. Overall - this store is depressing, poorly maintained (despite being new, there have been leaks in roof), poorly stocked, and terribly badly run. When this Giant first opened, it was beautiful, well stocked, wide variety of food in the salad bar and the hot bar. I'm a medical employee and there are several of us that likes to walk to this Giant for "fresh" food.. in the last year I have noticed a decline in freshness, and quantity of food at lunch time. Usually me and my coworkers get salad and fried fish. We loved how they cooked the different foods for lunch. I arrived at 12 noon today and the hot bar food looked like it has been there since this morning! There was an empty tray that had fish. I asked an employee behind the bakery counter if there will be any more fish coming out? The employee stated in about 10- 15 minutes. I waited. When it fiannally came, she just threw the tray on the bar and walked away....smh...this is a shame. This is poor service. The employees here need to be re-evaluated. I live on 17th and benning, best supermarket (besides Aldi) for service, quality, sale of meat, and parking!!! Their opening was hilarious... there was a fake Abe lincoln shaking hands with all the customers. I haven't checked out their produce yet, since i get mine from Union market, but the customer service and speed here is as good as harris teeter (not like the AWFUL safeway on 17th) but their sales are 100 time better then the Harris teeter at NoMa. read more

I was so excited to have a good grocery store open on my walk home... and it has proven to be consistently disappointing. The produce is lackluster and over-priced at best and staff is consistently unhelpful. The icing on the cake as far as disappointment goes has been the meat/seafood counter. First, after buying shrimp that were foul, I asked to smell shrimp before I bought them a few weeks later. I was treated with a dismissive attitude and downright derision when I told the employee I didn't want them based on their foul odor. Biggest nail in the coffin? They should remove the sign that says that they are willing to cut what you need thanks to an "expert butcher." When the cuts I wanted - flank or skirt steak - were not available, I was briskly told to go look in the pre-packaged section. Fine. I hate meat not from a butcher, but I knew I was in a mass market store, so off I went. They had neither. Upon my return to the meat counter, I was told that the person and/or "butcher" on duty was unwilling to halve a cut for me. I already felt I was making a concession by getting the cut I didn't want. I was not offered an option, and was treated with complete disdain the entire visit. Come on, Giant, we're not asking much - just some basic produce that hasn't gone south and a butcher/seafood monger who knows what he/she is doing... and a HINT of customer service. read more

Reasons why I like this Giant: 1) It's new, clean, shiny, just opened a few weeks ago. 2) I like the self-scanner you use while shopping around the store. It allows me to confirm prices so there is no surprise at the cash register, and there is even a few coupons that they offer on select products within the device. 3) I like being able to weigh my produce and print out my sticker. I love being in control apparently. 4) I liked all the promotion and samples they had during their first couple of grand opening weeks. Thank you for giving me a $5 gift card! 5) I like their sales. Sales are very competitive among supermarkets. Although, Giant prices are much higher for produce than your average Asian market. Why are all the healthy delicious greens, vegetables, fruits so much higher. :( $.99 for a bunch of scallions!? I just got 5 bunches for $.99 at H Mart. :( $2.29 for tofu? It was $.88 at Great Wall. 6) There is a large selection of everything you need. Wine, kitchen supplies, milks, cheese, deli, seafood, etc etc. 7) It's 24 HOURS! And the staff is helpful, even in the middle of the night. 8) The Deli and Seafood Staff are very nice. Okay I could go on and on, you can find me here. read more

My shopping trip to Giant today was not terrible, but not that great either. The apples were all bruised, had holes, and were picked over. I asked a store associate to bring out more and he did, so I was very pleased with that and would have been quite disappointed if I couldn't get the apples - they were one of the main things I wanted. Then I got over to the bread and was disappointed to see the shelves a complete mess, and the type of bread that I wanted, there were two loaves left, both with a best-if-used-by date of YESTERDAY. How awful. Needless to say, I was forced to select a different bread. The rest of the things I needed, I was able to get relatively easily. It's great to have a new supermarket in the neighborhood! However, based on my first visit it's not as nice as the local Harris Teeter (1st & M NE). It's bright, shiny, and has things at relatively inexpensive prices, but there are certain things lacking. The cheese selection isn't nearly as big. This Giant sucks. The worst customer service. They are no better than the Safeway on Maryland Ave. I went in this morning at 0615 to pick up my lunch for the day. They had at least eight workers walking around and one cashier. Well when I went in line there were two young ladies with two full baskets of food. I asked the cashier could they get another person to help ring up. At this time a line started to form. Someone was called but after 20 min in line no one ever showed up. They didn't even turn on the self check out. I was told because they usually don't get this much traffic in the morning. For goodness sake you are a grocery store and should always be prepared for customers, especially when you have workers in the store avoiding work. I can't wait until Whole Foods come because I know the customer service is much better. read more

It's the new Soviet Safeway! Sorry, Dupont Circle. I live in the building and only shop here when I have to. They are constantly out of basic items, especially produce. It doesn't matter what day of the week it is, they're going to be missing a few of the things on your shopping list. And, if they do have something, it's in a box blocking the isle because they have not stocked it yet. This store seems to insist on blocking every walkway with boxes, carts, signage, and displays. Once you have your basket full of *most* of your shopping list, you get to wait in line to use the worst self-serve check out machines known to man. If you want a cashier, there is usually only one, very slow option. If no one is stocking the shelves, and no one is at the registers, what do all the employees do? They yell to each other across the isles about the Redskins. Don't bother trying to ask for help finding anything, as you'd be rude to interrupt their conversation. To top it off, the store is always filthy and smells like garbage, and their delivery truck drivers block traffic at 3rd and H Street while laying on the horn daily. Do yourself a favor and go to the Harris Teeter on M Street. read more

I was searching for an item in Giant in which they have moved to an end cap so I couldn't find it I asked one of the employees to help me locate the item His response was you walking right pass it I replied where ?? He seemed very frustrated and and took me to the item and said here in a rudely tone If you don't like working with customers then this isn't the job for you . The single worse egg selection in the entire district. I don't know if employees go through cartons and throw them against the wall every time they get a new shipment or what but I have never seen a carton without at least one cracked or missing. If you want to spend $5 more and buy the organic or local variety-- those are usually past sell buy date. It's completely worth it to walk the extra half mile to Whole Foods or Harris Teeter. read more

I was raised on the Giant in Columbia Heights so when I walked into this Giant today my eyes bulged the the wonderfulness of it all. Yes, yes, yes, this is all on comparison. The isles are wide so you and your shopping cart fit without having to push people out the way. Their selection of produce is wide and the prices reasonable. There is an isle full of wine. I usually have issues with the self checkout---so don't ask why I continue to use it-- but at this place there was a woman right on you as soon as your light starts blinking for assistance. I would say they could have a better selection if enchilada sauce. read more

Very disappointed with this store. Quality of workers and managers has done a free fall. I get slammed with this "oh man why did I go to giant" feeling when I observe how the long checkout lines are being handled. The scanner program sucks...customers check out items without using their scanner "gun" and then the ones that follow instructions are left stuck waiting in lines. And don't get me started on the bathroom. I can only say this: boycott giant until they get their act together. Shop at trader joes and mom's!! read more

I wish I knew this Giant was closer to me than the one in Brentwood because it is much cleaner, no cop at the front door, and plenty of parking. I went here on Labor Day because this Giant maintained 24 hr during the holiday. The -1 star is because the room with the carts near the underground parking smells disgusting! With so much foot traffic, it shouldn't have carpet. Anyway, the store was bright, clean, and items were easy to find. The store didn't have gallons of organic fat free milk, but stuff happens. Everyone was pleasant, and there was a lady directing people to the open registers. My cashier was fast. She also let me come through the express lane with 15 items instead of 12, but no one was waiting anyway. They have a whole aisle with Giant brand organic products and the overall selection seems a lot better than Brentwood Giant. I'll certainly come here again. read more

Four stars, though not an enthusiastic four stars. Four stars relative to all the crappy, dirty, and/or over-priced grocery stores in DC. I like the fact that the place is new and clean and the employees have been trained to be friendly and attentive. The employees say hello and ask if you need help. The prices at Giant are definitely better than those at Safeway, Harris Teeter, and other competitors. But the selection is a bit short... I went in looking for brussels sprouts, and I couldn't find any. There is a bit of a coordination issue in service, also. And they somehow hired a lady in the produce section that actually speaks/understands zero English. I asked her a simple question, and her response was: "I no English." read more

I just want to say I go to this giant often and the people are very pleasant very helpful. However there's been two times that I've gotten bad meat from this giant. Now you might say that's an easy fix but I live in Maryland so if I buy something bad at this giant I don't want to have to bring it all the way back in to DC. Now I must say that whenever I called they been very nice and they say oh just bring us your receipt. Oh I also bought milk that had a good date on it but it was Sour too, but then again it was no-hassle return bring us the receipt and will give you your money back. My suggestion would be that they check their refrigerator system or freezer system. On more than one occasion I've gone to this giant and it has a foul odor when you enter the door it smells like horrible bad meat. Now who knows it may be the ventilation system Maybe. I am sure the workers have to smell it or maybe they don't because when you're in it maybe you can't smell it but when you walk into the door it is an awful odor there like rotten meat. The management has to know that the place smells terrible. When you first enter the door and when you're leaving out it is awful. Maybe it's that when you're in the stink you can't tell? I don't know but something should be done about the odor and I really believe the freezer or refrigerator needs to be checked. I really want to give this giant five stars because the customer service is so great!!. Their fruits and vegetables are always fresh. Now their salad bar is a hit or miss sometimes is very well-stocked then sometimes it's not. I like this place a lot. It's right underneath my building and really convenient. The people are generally pretty nice too and say hi to you when they loading merchandise in the isles. The only things I don't really like is the prices can be expensive, sometimes $2 more for certain products I could get at Walmart cheaper. The check out lanes can be a little long too at times. But I think if you go at the right times during the day, they aren't so bad. read more

I have been going to the Safeway 4 blocks from my house, but the long lines, lack of cashier check outs have discouraged me from going. I tried this Giant, which has a large parking lot which has never been crowded when I go. The store itself is well stocked, also not crowded, and the lines at check out are no more than 2 people ahead. There is usually a checkout coordinator who makes sure the lines are feeding into the registers smoothly. The selection is less than Safeway for certain items. For instance, Safeway offers many different types of fresh sausage, and Giant has two. But, I always find enough of what I'm looking for, and my shopping experience is always pleasant. Thanks to this Giant, I no longer feel I have to shop at 7 am to avoid long slow lines. read more
