Earlier in the day there was a pop up candy store from a local store Quincy's and coffee as well. I went closer to closing but they were still offering some nice candy selection by the checkout. There is adult fiction, YA, and children's books as well. A very bustling children's area. I didn't take any pictures because that children's area was busy with several children and I didn't want to take a picture of someone else child but it seemed like they all loved it! I could see taking your child here for a nice book selection night! However should children with sticky candy hands be touching you and rubbing past you bother you it might not be your cup of tea! Might be best to visit when school is in session if that rings true for you. In terms of selections the owner herself walked me around the store and explained each section with her recommendations based on what I liked. I personally like thrillers so she suggested a few with a fantasy twist on one so I'm excited to try it. Unexpectedly I ran into my neighbor too and she loves romance novels but has a hard time finding new ones and said for herself she even found something new to read. The owner said she's going to also try and feature some local authors so I'll be back in hopes to try and snag a local author book because that would be exciting to try. Pricing wise I don't mind paying a little bit more to support local but some of the selections could be found cheaper by online retailers which is a bummer. I would love to see gently used book swaps from titles bought here or even the start of a book club I would join! I do hope they have more pop up workshops because I saw they also had a floral arrangement pop up that I missed but that would be a fun event to attend as well! I would recommend being patient with parking though as the lot is a shared one and is veryyyyy tight on spaces. Or even parking up more on Main Street via street parking and then walking down . I also wish there was more seating to sit and enjoy reading the books I purchased, not sure if this was just because the tables had been rearranged for the floral demo but maybe even two bistro tables out front! Also on their instagram everyone keeps posting nice pictures of what seems like a deck with comfy chairs but the back area was blocked off and you couldn't get to it, hoping to come back and try again!

When we first arrived, we were greeted by the employee at the front counter, who was friendly and seemed to be in a good mood. We paid $107 for an hour of bowling and headed to our lanes. About five minutes later, management approached us and said that one of our teenagers had called an employee the N-word. We were told we had to leave immediately and that we would not receive a refund. We were completely shocked. We had no idea what they were talking about, so we tried to understand what had happened. During the discussion, we were told the police had been called. At that point, I gathered my family and waited near the entrance for the officers. We asked for some explanation, security footage, or any details about the alleged incident, but we were told the employee was too upset to come out and explain what had happened. I want to give credit to the officers from the Wappingers police department, they handled the situation professionally and took the time to listen to both sides. After speaking with us and then with the employee, it became clear that she had overheard one of the teenagers using the N-word while talking among themselves, not directing it at her. That is a very different situation from what we were originally accused of. The officer then asked management to contact the owner about refunding our money, and thankfully we did receive a full refund. We left and spent the rest of the evening somewhere else. My biggest issue isn't that someone was offended, it's how the situation was handled. Before getting the facts, management accused our family of directing a racial slur at an employee, called the police, and attempted to remove us without a refund. That was embarrassing and upsetting for everyone involved. I left feeling that the situation was handled far too quickly without a proper investigation or giving our family an opportunity to explain what had actually happened. I hope management reviews its procedures so future customers are treated more fairly before such serious accusations are made.
