BEWARE. Unless you have money to burn and only in it for the conversation and pretentious friendliness that happens at the counter level to distract you from the shoddy hair product you're likely to receive. I take full responsibility for ignoring the warning signs, such as: 1. I walked in with a head full of weave, 1b Virgin, with blonde streaks on top (clear example of what I was trying to reproduce). When I asked did they have 1b Virgin hair because my current weave hair failed, possibly due to age and I wanted to change it for all new hair, they said YES. The guy at the counter immediately started a switch and bait rabbit hole conversation that caught me off guard. With a nice amount of hair in his hand he said, "do you want it sewn on the track or off? I said, "huh? I just said weave." He said, "oh, some people use it for Brazilian. So the inches are different when it's for weave, blah blah blah." I mean, so much unnecessary conversation. I clearly asked for 20 inches of 1b on tracks to add blonde streaks to it later. He was making a simple order overly complicated. I've never seen anything like it. He went on telling me how their hair was direct from India or some crap. It amazes me how some groups have infiltrated the hair business to play on the ignorance of minorities in poorer communities, such as the one they are planted in. **That's what's happening here, big time. A major fraud in the hair craze. ***I wish I'd read the reviews straight through before going there. Make sure you do!! When I made it home I noticed the hair was very dark, and also much shorter than I'd asked for. My car was double parked while there so I had urgency concerns. I walked in and out of the boutique to monitor and watch out for ticket agents. My passenger was a non-driver. He told me I could wait in the car & he'd bring it out. He brought the hair to the car and in my haste, I pulled off with hair that was the wrong length AND color. He did not put a receipt in that pink bag or the ziplock after I spent $300 and change. I noticed this when I made it home that night. (When I asked for the receipt upon return the first time he said he'd give me a copy if he could find it in the book - somehow it never happened) I returned to complain about the length. After a song & dance, they sold me MORE hair and took back part of the shorter hair. By now I've spent $550. I left with about 3 ounces 18" and 2.5 ounces 20". When I mentioned how dark it was, he said, "no it's natural - & we color our hair all the time. --- "oh kay...." bullsh*t. RED FLAG #2: I asked for that first receipt. He dances around it. This behavior alone is fraudulent. How could you not have a duplicate receipt easily accessible? - They also have no working credit card machine. Why? Finally, my colorist applied the bleaching dye on a small portion of the hair to test it & try to create the blonde color. After several tries the hair could not move past a deep reddish color (photo attached). We realized the hair had been dyed. "Straight from India?" Lies. Thank God I decided to not allow the colorist to apply the dye on my head and instructed her to only remove one track to test this hair. I returned to GiGi's, but at this point, I realized I had been duped. All I wanted was for them to admit they misrepresented this hair or at the very least replace that tiny piece. I expected them to just be civil for the sake of good faith business. I knew I wouldn't be offered a full refund from a place that behaved so deceptively. The female owner was there. I told her what happened. "I wanted Virgin 1B so I could dye it, why did you sell me hair that was dyed?" She said, our 1B hair is dyed, we don't have Virgin. I said, "so how you could you call it 1B?" This is what makes this company fraudulent and deceptive. The industry standard for 1B is VIRGIN. Anyone engaging in expensive hair weaving and extensions knows this. However, this company thinks it can separate itself from the mass industry standards by claiming to sell a 1B type that is unique to them - but they do so without telling you before you buy it. This was a horrible experience from otherwise seemingly nice people. That's what's so frustrating. I would skip this place altogether and find somewhere that sells real hair, & unaffected virgin hair as an option. After a few days with this hair, it has become hard, sticky, and really tough to comb out. I have not done anything to it & I have not added any products to it. I comb it, put on a scarf and go to bed. I am no scientist but I'll bet anything there's a synthetic mix in this hair. Or, perhaps it's completely synthetic. I have enough experience to advise: "Gigi's hair is absolutely not 100% human hair. It's definitely not from India or anyone else's natural hair stock." Their hair is dyed and "not natural," as per her own words after the fact. Go figure. I may see this owner at Manhattan's small claims court in the near future. read more

I've bought hair extensions here before and I wasn't happy. About a month ago I tried to give this place another chance. Luckily I bumped into Gigi herself. She's very sweet, and very down to earth. I told her what I wanted and what I was expecting for the price I was paying for. I told her about my past experience (with customer service as well), so she decided to take care of me herself. She measured my extensions and applied the clips to the hair I bought myself. I am super happy with the outcome and the quality of the hair. The clip one blend perfectly with my hair. I am not sure why they have such bad reviews. I have been coming here almost 10 years and I live in Long Island. My hair dresser who I have also been with just as long loves their hair and has since been recommending Gigi's to all her clients ever since I came here. G and Henry are very helpful and friendly. You can come in and place your custom matched hair order. I am a #2 & #4 mix which is pretty much uncolored natural dark brown that perfectly matches me and they will usually have you done within an hour. I usually get 2-3 ounces of loose hair for brazilian knots as I just do extensions for volume and length. If you are a regular customer you can leave a hair sample and you can even call it in so that it is ready once you arrive. They have all hair colors and textures & you can buy the hair for whatever you need it for. I think you can even call and have it shipped. They don't take cards anymore and the prices have gone up a bit. For example, in my color 22" is $58 an ounce, 24" is $68 an ounce etc. I think it's worth it but truthfully I also don't know any other place. The parking can also be a hassle but it is in uptown manhattan near lots of popular places. Make it a planned city outing day and kill two birds on one stone. Definitely give them a try! read more

I could swear I wrote a review a while back but just in case I did not, here it is. Let me start by say, all hair sheds (natural born hair and those put on a track). I have spent lots of money on hair so I know what I speak of. I love Gigi's hair and have been going there for years. I use Spanish Wavy which is different from wet and wavy and it straightens beautifully when I wash and set at the Dominican salon. I buy new hair because I like different lengths and sometimes switch from a dark to a lighter shade of brown depending on the season. In addition, I have used some of the same hair for years and it's still good. I can say for the most part, there are no missing or bald gaps of hair on the weave pieces I've used for years. I PREFER GIGI'S over Lucos. I bought Wet and Wavy years ago from Lucos and really liked it. Went back for more hair and was so disappointed that the texture was completely different once I got it home. I went back to Luco's and they said the distributors had changed the hair. Why didn't they say that before I bought it. Of course I couldn't return it. Lastly, I love the staff at Gigi's. They are sooooooo pleasant and we engage in great conversations while I wait for the hair I've purchased. Henry is hilarious and my apologies for not remembering the lady who assists in addition to Henry (when either is away). She is great too. I should remember her name after all this time. I recommend it and hope they stay in business for many years to come. In addition, if people would stop trying to scam and cheat, we would be able to use our credit and debit cards instead of needing so much cash on hand. If I could give it a A NO STAR, I would. This is my third time buying hair from them and I'm disappointed that they have become unscrupulous businesspeople who now mix human and synthetic hair. I spent over 200 and it was a nightmare after the 3rd wash. I was better off buying fake hair for less at a random beauty supply store or better luck in getting quality hair as opposed to dolls hair. I was hesitant at first bc it had a weird smell not too mention one of the owners had an attitude. The other lady with the dark brown hair was at least nicer or more professional should I say. This place used to be TERRIFIC! back in 2008 when I first used them, the owner is lovely and she's always very willing to help, however her employees are not, and so with the passing of time the quality of the hair went down and so did the quality of the service. I've encountered rudeness, I've been sold hair that's not human once, and finally I was cheated with the ammount of hair the last time I bought. Ive been a loyal costumer for 8 years and I just wish I knew of another place where I could buy the hair this people used to sell back in 2008. They let me ruin my hair! I went with my african american girlfriend -she reccomended this place. I ordered 18 inches of almost platinum hair. Was very excited. HORRIBLE customer service. They don't really speak to you, or let you know what they went to do, or much details about anything. The WORST part about it was that they let me buy the wrong hair! I know places want to make a sale, but if they truly are a good, honest, caring business, they will inform the customer in order to have good reviews! Well, I am a caucasian girl with fine hair that is thin and kind of damaged from years of dying my hair blonde. Little did I know, I am supposed to get Remy human hair, preferably European. Remy hair does not tangle as easy and can take to more activity and more washing and is more expensive but worth it. Well, this place does not carry Remy hair. If they were TRUE professionals they would know that I needed different hair, AND that my thin fine hair would NOT support a f*ing weave! They do not specify what kind of human hair- ex. european, brazilian, indian.... WORST part: 2 weeks later I have to get the $220 dollar extensions cut off my scalp because the weave was falling and ripping out my real hair. AND because the "finest 100% human hair for weaving and braiding" was a tangled, unmanageable, hideous MESS. I lost probably half of the amount too within those two weeks ! It looked terrrible, and I had to go to a salon after a week to have them brush and straighten it! My ponytail looked legit like an afro! TERRIBLE UNINFORMATIVE PLACE! I previously purchased loose hair for braiding and was pleased with the hair and wait. Many years later, I purchase hair for a weave and did not get the same result. First, the wait is 1 1/2 hour to 2 hours, and next the hair was horrible. It shed and tangled, to the point where it was hard to manage. It felt coarse against skin. Having spent over $400 on poor quality hair was a big pill to swallow. The hair felt like it was mixed with fake hair. I will never use their service again. read more

Iv been getting my hair from GiGi for over 13 years, Iv tried everyone else and always go back for the best matched hair you can find anywhere. They make sure to match your color and texture perfectly including highlights, have so many lengths and colors which is great bc I change my look a lot. I get compliments for my "naturally long hair" everywhere I go and I every hair stylist says how easy the hair is to manage. This is 100% human hair I don't trust shopping online if I can't see it and touch it first! It's a little bit of a wait for your hair but I get a manicure right next door and they are always ready after. read more

I love my hair from Gigi's! I usually buy 26 inches and need about 5 ounces and buy straight. The hair is so beautiful and good quality. The owner Gema is a doll, color matches perfectly. My hair was SO short, but she layered it so it blended perfect. I just took my extensions out, but I plan to re-use the same hair because it still looks perfect on the tracks. Bait and Switch!!! WATCH OUT!! I have been here twice and first they ask you to pay ahead so if you're not happy with the hair you can't get your money back. Then they show you their good quality hair and ask if thats what you want based on what you asked for. Of course you say yes since the hair looks and feels like its 100% human hair. Then they go to the back and sew the hair but the hair they give you is not the same one they showed you. What you get is horrible quality, tangles, sheds quickly (poor sewing skills), and feels like synthetic even after you wash it and style it. BUT Since you paid for it already you're stuck with it. It happened to me the first time and the second time I asked for the hair they showed me and they said ok but again I got yipped. AVOID THIS PLACE!!! i called yesterday and spoke to someone named henry who was very helpful. i was looking around for hair and ended up calling back looking for another place. i was spoken to by a hispanic woman who was very nasty and said i had to come in to get a price quote. she was disgusting i couldn't even understand her i asked for henry she wouldn't even give him the phone. after i called around i got some other quotes and decided bc henry was so nice i would call back. the hispanic lady kept answering i kept hanging up. today i called and got another lady who asked me what i wanted and said i should come in bc they don't give prices over the phone and that henry said i kept calling and that i was crazy!!!! what type of customer service is that? i told her i was actually considering buying but would absolutely not anymore. they are rude disrespectful, and i will not ever ever ever endorse anything regarding them or step foot in that store. they are a nasty group and i cant tell you what to do but customer service is so important to me. these people would never get my $$$!!!!!!!!!1 btw they didn't care that i was posting this they didn't care the lady said just so you know... read more
