    Senegalese twist
    Pamela H.

Wadiyah is a wonderful, personable, knowledgeable, professional stylist. I was referred here by a colleague, who had beautiful crochet braids in. After a long time coming, I decided to finally get Senegalese twist done and i am soo excited that I did! Wadiyah did a beautiful job. The twist have a beautiful natural texture and they feel very light weight & comfortable. She was very gentle with my hair and no pain or brain busting braiding involved!! I received great complement on her work on my way out and home! Most wonderfully my husband loves them ... Looking for an natural hair stylist...Hit Dee Dee does do's- Wadiyah!!! You won't be disappointed! Thank you

After admiring her work through social media for a long time I finally booked my appt! I am so glad I did! Not only did I enjoy her professionalism and inviting personality but I left with a gorgeous hairstyle. I never experienced any discomfort or pain while getting my twists. They came out neat and they were light weight. I now have a goto hair stylist for my natural styles! No one else compares!

This is my first time getting my hair professionally braided and I'm extremely happy that I went to Wadiyah....she is extremely knowledgeable and nice. She wasn't pulling on my hair, the braids aren't tight. She makes sure you're comfortable with the design and her technique. I will definitely be going back to her and would recommend her to anyone who wants their hair braided. Great job!!!

Not sure where to start to explain how OVERLY IN LOVE, SATISFIED, AMAZED & PLEASED I am with my hair and experience!! If i could give 10 stars I honestly would. Things to keep in mind: This is my very FIRST time doing a protective style inside a shop...Thus I had to scour the internet FEVERISHLY to find someone I could feel comfortable with. I do consider my-self a bit tender headed and my scalp is a bit sensitive to any slight tug or pull. But aside from that, all I found all over Yelp and throughout Harlem were unreliable, unprofessional and rude stylists via Yelp reviews. Needless to say I was crazy excited when I found DeeDee's page. My experience: I reached out and booked via Email for my Appointment as instructed on her Yelp page- I really wanted someone patient and friendly due to the fact that I am completely new to this. I found DeeDee through Yelp and let me tell you, the Reviews DO NOT Lie. She nicely and promptly addressed ALL my questions via email (I HAD SO MANY) and asked me key questions about what I wanted, the type of hair I have, my hair journey etc. -- Aside from COVID, I am very wary about entering people's homes and she is located in a barbershop which was so Perfect for me (I got hair done during COVID). I arrived to my appointment a couple minutes late and she was so accommodating and assured me it was OK and let me know exactly what the day would entail, what to expect etc. I got the GORGEOUS butterfly locs style I saw her achieve on a different Yelper and she even added some color as I asked to step out a bit out of my comfort zone. I came equipped with a portable charger and headphones to keep myself entertained for the day. She was so WARM and FRIENDLY we ended up speaking the ENTIRE time you would think we had met before !! I barely looked at my phone for entertainment. My hair came out soooo beautifully that I literally wanted to cry. I am writing this the day of and I feel no pain at my scalp and the locs feel so light it's amazing. So IF you're reading this, and you're a bit on the fence on whether or not to book-- Please BOOK her prices are very reasonable, she is So Sweet and down-to-earth you will NOT be dissapointed !!! Thank you SO much DeeDee and I will see you very soon!!

I paid $480 for my appointment and left with hair that looked patchy and not like what we had discussed. While disappointing results can sometimes happen, what bothered me most was the complete lack of communication afterward. I reached out to Masaki on May 13 regarding my concerns and attempted to resolve the issue privately. I never received a response. It has now been about a month, and despite giving plenty of time for a reply, I have been ignored. I did not immediately leave reviews or make public comments because I wanted to give him the opportunity to address the situation directly. Unfortunately, that opportunity was never taken. For $480, I expected a higher standard of work and customer service. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Masaki.

Updating my review: I used to come here because the haircuts were strong, but over time the…read moreexperience deteriorated significantly. Appointments became rushed, started late, and lacked even basic professionalism. You're barely greeted when you walk in, and the overall tone makes it feel like you're inconveniencing them just by being there. I told them multiple times I had a head injury from a concussion and the lack of care was very concerning how abrasively they washed and handled my head. My most recent appointment was a complete failure. I asked for a warm, golden brown and came prepared with multiple reference photos. While the color was processing, I clearly flagged that it was pulling purple. That concern was dismissed, and the product was left on longer. The result was the darkest my hair has ever been, almost black with a cool, purple hue. The exact opposite of what I requested. The color job is all mismatched, the lower part of my hair significantly darker, the roots are sloppy and uneven. When I pointed this out, the response was defensive and dismissive. At one point, I was sarcastically asked if I wanted to "bleach it," which is an inappropriate and careless suggestion for already fine hair. It was mind blowing to have this handled so poorly and then be rushed through a cut that does not look anywhere close to the quality of the past cuts. I followed up requesting a refund, given that this will take months to correct and fade, and received no response for over 48 hours. It's not even about the money - it's about the severe lack of respect. What's most surprising is that this level of defensiveness and lack of accountability was unacceptable, especially after such a grave mistake. Instead of thoughtful adjustment and ownership, the response was dismissive in the moment and silent afterward. Mistakes happen. How they're handled is what defines a business. This was not handled well. NYC has no shortage of salons that can deliver both technical skill and professionalism. This is not one of them. Updating this with a pic and additional NYC HAIR SALON SEO terms so future customers are warned since the salon has decided to block me after no satisfactory resolution. The pic at the top right was me pre-hair f*** up. Only come to this salon if you'd like to come home and cry.

I went back recently to bleach my hair and I was so shocked by how good it came out - and in only 4-5 hours! He's definitely a professional and knows what he's doing especially when it comes to dying/bleach/toning and cutting short Asian hair to fit my face shape. I rarely need to tell him to fix or that I'm not satisfied with my hair; I trust his process and he's never failed me.

I used to love this place but this will be my last visit. Both the front desk and stylist were cold…read moreand unfriendly. I asked for ash brown (which I usually get) but I got a way lighter color than expected and the bleach (he went over the bleach twice) really damaged my hair. On top of that, they charged me for a haircut I never asked for. During the balayage, the stylist cut/thinned (no idea what he did because he never asked me) some of my hair (maybe 10 "snips"?) and they later charged me an additional $70 for the "haircut." This really pissed me off because in the middle of my appointment, I even heard an assistant ask in Mandarin "is she getting a haircut?" and the stylist shook his head. I was really unhappy with my hair that I went to get a hair treatment (for the dry, damaged hair) and toner at a different salon a week later. That stylist even asked "who did your hair?"
