I wanted to wait at least a week after I got my hair done to see how my hair held up before I posted my review. First of all I wanted to say that Dee Dee did a wonderful job. I got knotless box braids installed after not having braids for probably two decades. I'm extremely tender-headed and Migraine prone. However I started transitioning in March and I was in desperate need of a protective style. I could have fallen asleep in her chair she was so gentle. Besides being an excellent hair stylist, Wadiyah is friendly and funny! The massage she gave during my wash & deep conditioning treatment before starting my Senegalese twists were relaxing! Not sure where to start to explain how OVERLY IN LOVE, SATISFIED, AMAZED & PLEASED I am with my hair and experience!! If i could give 10 stars I honestly would. Things to keep in mind: This is my very FIRST time doing a protective style inside a shop...Thus I had to scour the internet FEVERISHLY to find someone I could feel comfortable with. I do consider my-self a bit tender headed and my scalp is a bit sensitive to any slight tug or pull. But aside from that, all I found all over Yelp and throughout Harlem were unreliable, unprofessional and rude stylists via Yelp reviews. Needless to say I was crazy excited when I found DeeDee's page. My experience: I reached out and booked via Email for my Appointment as instructed on her Yelp page- I really wanted someone patient and friendly due to the fact that I am completely new to this. I found DeeDee through Yelp and let me tell you, the Reviews DO NOT Lie. She nicely and promptly addressed ALL my questions via email (I HAD SO MANY) and asked me key questions about what I wanted, the type of hair I have, my hair journey etc. -- Aside from COVID, I am very wary about entering people's homes and she is located in a barbershop which was so Perfect for me (I got hair done during COVID). I arrived to my appointment a couple minutes late and she was so accommodating and assured me it was OK and let me know exactly what the day would entail, what to expect etc. I got the GORGEOUS butterfly locs style I saw her achieve on a different Yelper and she even added some color as I asked to step out a bit out of my comfort zone. I came equipped with a portable charger and headphones to keep myself entertained for the day. She was so WARM and FRIENDLY we ended up speaking the ENTIRE time you would think we had met before !! I barely looked at my phone for entertainment. My hair came out soooo beautifully that I literally wanted to cry. I am writing this the day of and I feel no pain at my scalp and the locs feel so light it's amazing. So IF you're reading this, and you're a bit on the fence on whether or not to book-- Please BOOK her prices are very reasonable, she is So Sweet and down-to-earth you will NOT be dissapointed !!! I have never had such a positive experience getting a protective style. Dee Dee did my Faux goddess Locs and really listened to what I wanted. She told me exactly what hair I should purchase and gave me options as to where I can find it, which was wicked helpful! I went to Dee Dee for Faux Locs. She took her time to install each Loc and the installation was very neat; you are unable to see my real hair in any of the individual Locs. This has been the most pleasant experience I've had getting my hair braided. I got crochet braids w/faux locs, with a shampoo and conditioner. Wadiyah takes her time with each step of the process from wash to final style.You can tell right away this is her passion. She made sure that each step of the way I was comfortable. Not only in the environment but also with the tension of each braid. By the time I was done I looked like a new person. Never even received service. Was told to come in at 5 for an appointment and then received a text asking if I could come at 6 instead, cool. I get there and wait for an hour while she is half way through twists on another client. Complete waste of time. I had somewhere to be. I shouldn't have to wait over two hours after my original appointment time for someone who is getting individuals when I only wanted two French braids to begin with. I ended up having to rush home to do my own hair as I had already washed and blow dried it prior to my appointment. Wadiyah did text and apologize and offered a $10 off coupon for the next service. I was on my Tuesday stroll to Sister's Forever for my bi-weekly wash and set (was $10, now $15 - rent's too damn high). Anyway, I see sign on the door of DDDD advertising $10 wash and set. I get hype and promptly stop in and ask the stylist if she could take me at once. Upon sitting down at the bowl, she compliments my hair/texture, asked if I would like deep conditioner (no thank you) and proceeds to wet it and apply shampoo. That's when I (a little too late) mention the great price. She says "no, not anymore". Wheeeeet? It's 40 degrees outside and my hair's wet and only now do I learn that the sign was false advertisement...I say, well there goes your tip. And I explain that the ONLY reason I stopped in was because of the sign on the door. She gives me a long explanation saying the lady in charge (Diane?) doesn't honor $10 wash and sets, it's now #1- $20 (ma'am!!); #2- I have natural hair, #3- AND it's long (it's shoulder-length) = $20. I say, literally all I want is the shampoo and roller set - no blow fry (cause it feels like death and it's unhealthy...but that's another discussion for another day). She was like "yea, did you bring your own pins? (Yes) Then it's still $20 for you". So my point is...I really don't care how my hair turns out cause I just need it clean but I do take issue with this permanent sign on the door that has yet to be covered and/or removed.
