Whyyyyyy have in waited so long to try this store???!! It's my new favorite spot in all of Lakeland! I walked in and was immediately in awe. Everything.... EVERYTHING you could need for an Asian dish is right here! Even the appliances to cook on. Want ramen? There's an entire aisle. Want frozen goods? Got them. Want snacks? Check! Need a Korean barbecue? Or rice cooker? Or utensils? Chopsticks? They're there! Korean ice cream, even. Even a couple things for BTS ARMY. There are Chinese, Korean and Japanese goodies. Gigi even makes her own kimchi, people! It's on the refrigerator and you have to try it!! And prices are super great!! Speaking of Gigi, she is a gem!! She's the sweetest thing, absolutely adorable. Gigi is so wonderful! She's very friendly and helpful. We live in Winter Haven, and we have an asian market in WH, but I just adore Gigi so much that we drive to her store. And she has the shirataki noodles I've been looking for! What a great little store. I get a lot of really good ramen here too. She sells a little bit of everything, I love that she has hot pot stuff too. There's even bulgogi meat, rice, candies, cookware, frozen dumplings, kimchi. I've driven by this place countless times, but today I stopped in to check it out. I'm so glad I did! I picked up various packs of spicy noodles and some candy for my kids. The owner was so friendly and you tell she loves the community and her customers. She recommended a few other types of noodles for me to try and bok choy kimchee. The minute I got home I tried the kimchee and it was SO flavorful!! Definitely not spicy, so it will be a good side item to pretty much any meat dish. I knew of Gigi's Korean Store for a few months but had never stopped in until the last couple of weeks. I love Pho and wanted to try to make my own so I finally pulled in at lunch time. What a wonderful family operation! Mom, Dad and Daughter are all so kind and helpful. It's like a wonderland of exotic ingredients that I want to learn more about. If your lunch breaks are boring, stop in here and have a little fun browsing the aisles, picking up some tasty seaweed (low calorie, low sodium) snacks and round up the ingredients for some Pho. Great place and All the ingredients you need @ GiGi's! Especially good is the Miligrosa rice using a 1 to 1 ratio rice to water. Didn't have to leave the house to make Lemongrass Chicken (recipe at CarlsbadCRAVINGS.com) as we had everything stockpiled from GiGi's stuffed in our pantry and freezers. I've used this Asian market 15+ years. There's a ton of great eats packed into this tiny space. Extensive candy aisle (try Thai tamarind or Japanese Pocki!). Many noodles and nori (seaweed). Frozen delicacies. Homemade sugar-free kimchee with radish, bok choy or cabbage (and one without fish sauce). Rice cookers, tea sets, slippers, Japanese "scratchy" washcloths, fancy chopsticks, seasonings, marinades. Authentic imports. Fresh oriental vegetables. (Enjoyed Japanese red potatoes) Gigi is a great resource for bringing Asian tastes to the home cook! She gives basic cooking advice for many of her products. This place is amazing. A local owner operator with a great selection of all your needs. Need dried mushrooms for that dish? They have several types. Spices oils snacks all your heart desires. Her homemade kimchi is amazing. Ive had the radish one today i purchased the cucumber as well as the radish kimchi again. I have to take time to write this review because I live my life according to other people's reviews. I recently became obsessed with Asian cuisines (doesn't matter which country, I don't discriminate, I love them all) but South Korean cuisine especially. I have driven by his place so many times and never thought to stop and shop. Today I wanted to cook Tteokbokki and decided to check Gigi's out. Gigi, the owner, was beyond pleasant and helpful! She loaded me up with everything I needed for the dish and told me how to prepare it. I also couldn't leave without buying a jar of her homemade kimchi, which I immediately opened and ate in the car. Gigi is a doll and I will be going back time and time again for my Korean cuisine fix! The grocery assortment was vast from noodles to fish to desserts and candies. This place has it all! Lakeland is known for its lakes...uh huh....its fast food chains, high school football, myriad of churches, and closed businesses after 8 PM. But I bet you didn't know that there is an Asian / Korean market here. Yes, there is. The owner, Gigi, is the sweetest lady. She always answers questions about Asian cuisine. Even if you're not Asian, but you have an adventurous palate and would like to try something different to cook at home. I suggest you go here. Fresh ingredients, true to that flavorful Asian flair. I have been wanting to go inside this store for ten years... and so when I came back to visit in Central Florida I wanted to make my hosts something nice for dinner. So I took a ride to Gigi's (it was there, as always!) and spoke to the owners for a while. They were busy with some of their routine but while working they were able to talk to me (Gigi speaks much better English) and guide me to what I needed to accomplish what I wanted to do. They are very knowledgeable and are the very kindest of people. (Of course, what I made was a big hit, but Gig's advice really helped!!!) I would recommend shopping there, and Gigi is happy to tell you what the products are if you don't read oriental writing.
