In some areas, the stores are literally just a few miles apart, even just 1 mile apart, or less. The reason I'm mentioning this is simple. With all of this construction, someone has to pay those bills. And THAT someone would be the customers. You, and me. In general, the prices at Publix are reasonable, even competitive. Especially if you catch a nice sale or BOGO. Where the prices are really zooming, however, is in the Meat and Seafood Departments. I've been seeing a steady acceleration in those prices, at a faster pace than with their competitors. A visit to those departments shouldn't create 'sticker shock'! Even chicken, historically affordable, is at a very high price point. In my opinion, I see no reason to have SO many stores, clustered SO close together. I also don't believe it is environmentally responsible, impacting wetlands, wildlife and infrastructure. I say back off on the construction and focus on bringing more savings to the backbone of the Publix Corporation, the consumers.
