Came here for a concert, stayed after for some gambling. What a great way to have a Vegas vibe without the drive

Staid at Gila River Resorts while in town for a conference being held at their resort. We had a…read moreroom on the top floor. The rooms were nice and clean and well maintained. The bathroom lights above the shower did not work, they would flicker then go off. The tissue box was empty at check in besides the tissue rose made on top. There were issues with the "mini bar" sensor at check in and someone had to come check on it later in the week. We didn't get service on some days of stay even with the "Service Please" Sign on the room door. The pool is open until 10pm, however the pool bar closes at 6pm and they had people exit their cabana rentals at 7pm. The drinks at the bar were severely over priced and mediocre at best. We paid $43 for 2 margaritas at the pool bar that tasted like blended water with a splash of margarita mix. The umbrellas at the pool had to be closed most of the time due to the winds, which also blew all types of debris and trash into the pools causing a bad look. One of our party was double charged at the pool bar, and they expressed that they could not reverse the charge and if they did it would take 7-10 days to return to the card, but refused to give us the extra drink because they couldn't serve more than 2 drinks within 30 minutes to the same person...even though there was 6 of us in the party and she was charged for 3 drinks, twice. Which could have been one per person in our party. The mobile bars within our evening reception drinks were higher priced in there than on the casino floor, so we all left our reception, to get drinks and come back. Drinks were on average $4-8 more than at the bar at the casino. One of the girls in our group personal cards was charged not only for the deposit amount for the stay but then the remainder of the balance for the first night and then again for the rest of her stay, causing her bank account to be nearly cleared out. In which the front desk staff told her there was nothing they could do, and that it would go back to her card Friday at the earliest (this was Tuesday). As we were there on business the rooms were prepaid with CC authorizations on file for the cost of the room rate + resort fees, so she was left with no money to pay for food or anything else for the rest of the week, and they could not provide any help and did not have any managers on property. We were able to track down a manager in a different department who was at least able to get her a food comp to pay for her meal thankfully. We were really excited to stay at Gila River, we had heard many great things about this property and were were unimpressed with the level of guest service.

I would never recommend this hotel…read more I originally booked a 3-night stay but ended up arriving a day early. I called the day of my flight to add another night and was told it was no problem but it would be treated as two reservations and I would need to check out Sunday and check back in. I checked in around midnight Saturday and paid a $100 deposit. On Sunday I left my room with the privacy sign on the door. Around 3pm the front desk called telling me I needed to return immediately to check out and check back in for the second reservation. I returned within about 10 minutes and was required to pay another $100 deposit. When I returned to my room, the privacy sign was no longer on the door and had been placed inside the room, meaning someone had entered despite the sign being displayed. Monday my room was not cleaned. Tuesday my room was still not cleaned and I had no fresh towels. I called the front desk and spoke with Veronica, who argued with me about my reservations and told me rooms are only cleaned on the third day. At that point it was already the third day and my room still had not been serviced. She eventually brought towels and said staff had "dropped the ball." Tuesday night I asked Lena at the front desk if I could extend checkout until 2pm because my flight was later. She initially said no, then said it would require a fee but couldn't locate the policy anywhere. After calling Veronica she told me the fee would be $55. I declined and asked how late I could stay without a fee and she said 11:30am. When I returned to my room my key suddenly stopped working. After I went back downstairs and expressed how frustrating the situation was, Lena later called and said the 2pm checkout would be approved and the fee waived. At 11:30pm that same night Veronica called me from home explaining she had gone home sick, it was her second day as manager, and the team "needed work." The conversation went on far longer than it should have and felt extremely unprofessional. The next morning I left briefly with the privacy sign on my door and returned an hour later to find the sign once again placed back inside my room, meaning someone had entered my room again despite the sign being on the door. At checkout Jacob at the front desk was very kind and helpful. However when management became involved they mostly made excuses for the situation. They eventually offered compensation, but instead of refunding the night I personally paid for ($269), they refunded one of the nights that had been booked using my mother's reward points. In other words, the credit didn't even go back to the person who actually paid cash for the stay. Beyond the service issues, the property itself is poorly maintained. The AC units appear locked and do not properly cool the room. The shower bases are stained brown, the shower caddy is dirty, and metal fixtures throughout the room are rusting. The beds have almost no padding and the pillows smelled strongly of sweat. Housekeeping service was inconsistent and my room was never cleaned during the stay. I have stayed at the Cambria in Fargo, ND and had a completely different experience. Unfortunately this location felt closer to a budget motel than a Cambria hotel. I hope Choice Hotels corporate reviews this property because the guest experience and privacy issues during my stay were far below expected Cambria brand standards.

The bed was pretty good, no sink holes though I prefer a firmer mattress. The workout room was excellent for this size and class of hotel, very large and fully equipped and in good condition. The pool also looked nice and clean, however I could not use it as we had rain the day we stayed. There is a lot of road noise from Frye road and 3/4 of the rooms will have this noise, so request a room that faces south. Fortunately, at night the car noise was less and we wore ear plugs so were able to sleep. We stayed on a Saturday night so were not woken up by work traffic since it was Sunday morning. During the weekdays, I image the morning rush hour, which starts early in the Phoenix metro, would be very hard to sleep through.

The overall stay here was stunningly beautiful, convenient and really Grand. The only issues I had were a few room related items which I bring up only as some constructive critique. Overall, it was all 5 stars. The program screen inside the spa/gym shows on but not logged in- with no instructions nearby on how to use it. (Front desk would need to assist, and they weren't easily available) seems like a waste of a service. Secondly, I found that the sheets on the bed are all flat- (they don't use fitted sheets- and it was troublesome as they didn't stay covering the mattress the whole night. Thankfully I asked for help and housekeeping doubled up on sheets for me. Lastly, I noticed some small rocks in my room upon check in. Needed vacuuming longer. Besides that everything felt very clean and tended too!

I opted to stay here given the kitchenette and large desks, which made remote work easy. I stayed here for two nights and it was a great experience! The breakfast was tasty and fresh but it's your typical free hotel carb fest breakfast. I believe they had breakfast potatoes though and I love when hotels offer those. I was able to enjoy the breakfast and had tons of the coffee, as it was good...better than what was in the room. The staff was super friendly and helpful. They offer skillets you can get from the front desk and I was able to cook my boyfriend and I a yummy meal one night. The roll out table was perfect to eat on and it was also very comfortable. I liked how the room had everything I needed from glassware to plates to silverware. The room had a nicer dishwasher than my apartment! The pool area was also super nice and i got to partake in the hot tub, which was also really nice and at a good temperature. The pool and spa are located outside but the area is super clean and there are grills in the area so you can grill up some burgers and hot dogs if you'd like. If I wasn't a Chandler local I'd stay here again but as I said, I live literally right down the street.

They informed me I was getting kicked out and trespassed off the property off of one noise complaint warning, (she never came back she just simply said she was going to call the cops if it kept going but we completely complied and they all left soon could be seen on cameras everyone leaving) I fully complied with the police and left a day earlier then my flight, i understand it was my room we was using but I was the only sober person in there playing my ps5 listening to music just a bit to loud and I got tresspassed a day before my flight in a place I'm no where near familiar with. I was nothing but respectful and compliant and this was how I was treated, tresspassed and told goodluck when everything was settled after 1 notice. If this is the type of employees the Hilton is hiring, I would not suggest staying here, not to mention the hot tub never worked, and they closed down the pool in the hot heat of AZ. This was extremely unprofessional as someone who worked in The hotel business. I was nothing but kind and nice to the lady and still got treated like this. Completely ruined my whole experience and would definitely not recommend.

The property is older but nicely remodeled, and that worked in its favor because the water pressure in the shower was strong compared to what you get in newer hotels. The fitness center was impressive for a hotel gym. It had everything needed for a solid workout. Beds were comfortable and the room was spotless. The only thing to note is the unique layout: since the hotel is built into the Butte, the floors can be a little confusing at first. For example, the lobby is on floor five, the pool's on floor three, and I stayed on floor two. Once you get the hang of it though, the design and views make it a stunning property. We made the most of the beautiful Phoenix weather. We even got to relax on the patio for cocktails. If you're looking for a full-service Marriott with a resort vibe that's close to the airport, this is definitely a top choice.

The rooms were spotlessly clean, fresh, modern, comfortable beds, and everything felt well-maintained and inviting. The service was top-notch: friendly, attentive staff who went out of their way to make our stay special. Shoutout to the front desk and housekeeping teams, they truly made us feel welcome. One of the highlights was the lovely patio area, whether relaxing by the pools or enjoying the outdoor spaces with stunning mountain and valley views. The amenities are fantastic: cascading pools, hot tubs carved into the mountainside, a waterslide for fun, and beautiful grounds that feel like a true desert escape. Everything exceeded expectations for a relaxing getaway close to the airport and Tempe attractions. One note for fellow travelers: The resort expansive and is built into the hillside, so there are plenty of stairs throughout the property, between the lobby, rooms, pools, restaurants, etc. It's gorgeous and adds to the unique layout, but if you or anyone in your party has mobility issues, consider requesting a more accessible room location or using the resort's golf cart/shuttle service where available. They do accommodate, but it's something to plan for ahead.
