DO NOT GO HERE! We came here for Persian new year, and we regret it. My family came here from Michigan and while eating dinner a pot light fell on my cousins head and cut his eye open. When we brought the incident to the managers attention his response was "real men have scars". This place is just bad news. We came here for Persian new year and that was a horrible mistake. Last week we called this restaurant to see what they offer for Persian new year - they listed the appetizers, entrees, and mentioned that dessert was also included and that each person could order one drink for free. It sounded like a good deal for $100 a person. WRONG!! Our waitress only brought 2 appetizers for 5 people. We mentioned that she forgot one of the appetizers and suddenly that appetizer was no longer included in our package. Fine. We asked her to repeat what our options were for dinner - and she included vaziri and so did the lady on the phone when we called last week. Suddenly when it came time to order, vaziri was no longer an option - and we were the first people to order dinner. We asked to speak to the manager who we had also seen at Shomal restaurant before (she seems like new management and is doing a horrible job). We mentioned we were comparing our options last week and we chose this place over Shiraz restaurant because of what the lady told us was offered over the phone. She said she would bring us vaziri but not to let any of the other customers know - not sure how anyone else was okay with being ripped off like that, but sure. The food arrived cold but we were tired of complaining and hungry so we sucked it up. Dinner cleared and we were watching a belly dancer for about 45 minutes and we asked our server for dessert. Again, suddenly dessert wasn't included. This restaurant promised A, B, and C, and didn't deliver on any of it. They messed up all 3 courses and ruined our evening. We asked for the bill about an hour before new year. They charged the Visa we had put our reservation under - without our consent. When I asked them over the phone why they needed our Visa, they said just in case we cancel our reservation. They brought over the Visa receipt with the bill. Somehow it came to $800. We looked at the bill and saw that they charged us $500 (100/person) PLUS everything we ordered - the drinks that were supposed to be included, the appetizers, and the entrees. Not to mention a not deserved tip of $100. Of course we complained to the managers and they both acted as if we were over reacting - they agreed it was a mistake and refunded the $800. We were going to pay the actual bill of $500 in cash but realized these people are SO shady that we wouldn't trust them not to charge our Visa card even if we did pay with cash. We paid $500 with NO tip. Everyone was so rude and kept telling us "hearse Nakhor - as if it's our fault that they ruined every single thing that could have been ruined. We kept all the receipts and when we came home we noticed that we also had a receipt for $400. When my husband checked his account he noticed exactly $900 was missing from his Visa credit. It was so dark in there we couldn't even see all the receipts we had until we got home - so we called them right away to complain AGAIN about how they charged us $900 when it should've only been $500 and why do they keep charging his Visa card without his consent - this is total FRAUD. The man he was speaking to was even trying to get him to pay gratuity on top of that. Are you kidding? This new woman (Samira) that is "managing" Gilaneh and Shomal is clearly so cheap and doesn't deliver on what she promises her customers, and even rips them off! We will NEVER return to Gilaneh or Shomal simply because of her and the shady way she is running her business. And we have a lot of friends and family and will make sure they never waste their time like we did by going to these restaurants. You just made your competition a much richer place. read more

We went there 2 times. The food was good but the service was awful!!! There was no one at front desk to give us the seat! We had to find the servers ourselves to ask them for a service. The second time the waitress completely ignored us and started to hang out with her friends!!! I will never go there again. read more

Visited them yesterday and service was extremely bad. Their Kabab Torsh wasn't as good as before and even though they weren't busy the server couldn't do his job properly. He brought my friends cocktail with no ice and also brought the wrong order for him. When he said the order is wrong he immediately took it and tried to fix but it just got worse. My friend ordered Gilaneh Special and it was not properly cooked. Not recommending this place at all. read more

I've had bad experience the past few times I've been there..service is not that good anymore... What really stops me to go there again is that I've found hair in my food twice, once in the salad which I told the server who didn't speak English or Farsi and she didn't really do anything about it. The second time there was hair in my kabob, I didn't even bother telling them about it. And another time they brought my salad after I was completely finished with my food and on top of it they charged me for a full salad instead of half rice and half salad. read more

The decor is really nice. Food is not the best Persian food I've had in Toronto but it's not bad. The service is average (kind of bad). Our server only came to check on us once. The owner of gilaneh and north are the same but the food quality here is a lot better. The portions are enough and proportional to the price. I ALWAYS get Torsh and would never get anything else. I recommend getting their homemade doogh and mast mosir as well. The view from the windows is amazing, specially in the sprint and summer. read more

I believe if you want to taste a real authentic persian dish, this resturant is the place to go. We were invited there for a birthday and it was a great experience. I love their appetizers specially the Bademjan Kabab which is fried eggplant with walnut and pomegranate stuffings. I would highly recommend their Salmon and Kabab Torsh. Atmosphere is nice but the service was slow and waiters and floor manager Ms TARA with an attitude Booked table for 4 for 8 july friday night 830 gave our food orders @ 830 pm 1 Barg 1 Soltani and 1 Joogeh and waited for one and a half hour no food when asked waiter he said 5 minutes then asked second waiter another 5 minutes in the meantime the table next to us is served but these 3 came @ around 9pm we had been waiting since 830 pm We were quite baffled with their service and still no food on our table when asked to see the manager the waiters did not know where he was and was not available and the person we spoke to named TARA she said she was only acting manage and she was not responsible and listened to our complaint and did not know what to do and started arguing with us. When the food finally came Barg was ok but the chiicken Joojeh was undercooked and had to leave it as did not want them to bring another Joojeh which who knows would have taken another 2 hours. My girlfriends and I went to this place for lunch on Saturday. We had 5 kids from the age of 1 to 8. The bread they server with your food is to die for....we could have just filled up on that. It is not exactly a kids place so we were the only ones with children but they were very accommodating and made everyone feel very comfortable and welcome. The food is amazing....we will definitely go back...without the kids though as it is so beautiful I would just want to enjoy the food and the atmosphere :) read more

Last week was my second visit to this restaurant. Their food is authentic and very high quality. Their portion size and value are good as well. The decor is really nice and get a seat by the window as it overlooks a beautiful ravine. If you are looking for a good Persian meal go to Gilaneh! read more

I'll admit, I was there on a busy Saturday night, but wow! What were we thinking? So, for a restaurant where you pay about $30-40 per person, you expect a certain level of customer service. Our experience was interesting to say the least. On par with what you might find in a fast food restaurant, not in a high-end hotel. 1. We shouldn't have to wave our arms around, and finally stand up to get service from wait staff. 2. Point number 1 should never happen when staff appear to have time to stand around. At times we counted 3 or 4 waiters or bus staff standing around, while our table was being ignored. 3. It appeared there were multiple inefficiencies. A number of times we could observe wait staff arguing at the Point of Sale terminals. It should not take 3 staff to enter an order into a computer terminal. The supervisor spent a lot of time sorting menus instead of delegating tasks to the wait staff. 4. Table bussing was embarrassing, to say the least. Bus staff should never come to the table with a tote bin to clear the table. Bus staff should never place the tote bin on the table while clearing, especially when guests are still sitting at the table. Bus staff should not be using a guest chair to put the tote bin on to clear the table. Appetizer plates should be cleared before the main course. Fingers are never placed on the inside of glasses when clearing tables. Discarded wrappers from butter or other condiments should be cleared with the appetizer plates. Overall, a bussing disaster. 5. It may be an Iranian thing, but straws in water glasses looks very cheap and low class. Typically it implies that the cleanliness of the glasses can't be trusted, you have way too much lipstick on, or you are a small child. None of these options are particularly classy. 6. When serving water to tables, please bring the glasses full if you are going to have a miniature carafe accompanying the glasses. Our carafe could only fill 2 of our 4 glasses, and we immediately had to request more water. We spent most of the evening trying to get more water as per points 1 and 7. 7. We needed a lot of water, as the food was tasty, but oversalted. The plating was pretty unoriginal. I suppose it's Iranian comfort food, but a pile of rice and a piece of meat, with no garnish, no embellishment, looks pale in light of today's food experience. Perhaps it was a busy Saturday night fluke. If I'm going to be paying a moderate price range, I expect decent service. I know a number of little "hole in the wall" places for kebab, where the service is beyond compare. Yes, I'll likely end up being served in a styrofoam clamshell, but the food quality will be similar, the presentation almost identical, and the price will be about one third. You pay for service and ambience. We unfortunately got neither service or ambience during our visit. read more

I have been to Gilaneh on many occasions with both my Iranian friends and also other friends from many different nationalities, English, Canadians, Koreans,Japanese, Egyptians and more... and not once and not one of us were ever been disappointed or let down by both quality of food and service..all my friends have become regular costumers and enjoy the food immensely.. from the hot, freshly baked Barbari they serve on wooden slabs as starters with fresh Herbs, Walnut and Feta cheese to kebabs, grilled eggplant,..they are all to die for.. who can resist all those goodies..each time for appetizers we order everything from Barbari and Herbs, mast-o-khiar and mast-o-mooseer to mirza-ghasemi, kashk badenjoon..but nothing can top their bademjoon kabab..food from heaven...then we move to The baghala-ghatogh which is served in eye catching mini pots..by all standards one of the best in town.. the reason we always go in big groups to gilaneh is that it is just too hard to choose since everything on the menu is yummy and mouth watering...we order everything and this way we can share and enjoy them all... my favorite part of the menu after all kinds of eggplants they serve!! is kababs..specially Kabab Torsh and Shandiz kabab...kabab torsh is bursting with flavours and shandiz kabab(charcoal grilled rack of lamb) are just juicy and delicious.. Koobideh and Barg also are two other kababs I always enjoy ...my friends especially enjoy Joojeh kabab (Chicken)which is also amazing..the careful marinate must be contributing to the amazing flavors..in the end nothing can top the tea made Iranian way, brewed over steam...it just taste amazing and the aroma tickles all your senses.. Apart from food, the ambiance and decor is unique and interesting..and above all that, the staff are amazing, efficient attentive, caring and friendly...Me and my friends have always had great time and many memorable nights and parties held in Gilaneh Reastaurant with the help of great food and amazing hosts and hostesses.. This by far was the worst experience of my life! A group of 13 of us went, we ordered at about 9:30pm. I ordered the beef kabob, and the server came back at 10:41 saying there is no beef, so a few of us had to reorder.. Even though we had ordered an hour and 10 minutes prior. They brought out our soda beverages which required a bottle opener which they didn't supply, so someone close to me had there finger cut open while trying to open a bottle of coke. They started to bring out food, forgot what multiple people ordered and were not even apologetic. When I finally got my food (they had forgotten about my plate, which took another 10 minutes to get) I started out eating a piece of chicken, which was very mushy and didn't taste right. I cut open all the chicken pieces which were small and inside they were ALL RAW. So by that point I had ate some raw chicken which also had veal or lamb wrapped around it (I didn't order that) so not only was there cross contamination but raw poultry. I spoke to multiple people, one server told me it was fine, and another came and took the meal away, I wish I had a photo of it! The owner was refusing to talk to us, we waited. He was rude and did not believe us, because his trusty little server had taken the food and thrown it out. By the end of it nobody had touched their food, we just wanted to leave. Also a plate that we had set all the raw chicken on was left around the good food, and was being used, which in my books is cross contamination. Anyways needless to say, I would never eat there again! It took way to long to even get the food, the servers were rude and the one even rolled her eyes, I had raw meat, the owner was rude! Safe to say Im much happier never going there again. I also called the food inspection agency, as should anyone who has had such an awful experience like this, and I am only giving 1 star because I can't give any less. Beautiful but very small restaurant space and too many table you have to make sure you keep your feet close to yourself the way that waitress can walk in between tables . We were 15 friends that we wanted to get together for new year and try this place. Very Bad service, me and my husband we ordered 2 beer and in 30 min we had to remind the waitress 3 times to get that, after longtime waiting, dinner arrived but my dinner arrived 15 min later than my friends. After dinner we waited to see if we can order coffee again no service nobody asked for taking order for desserts. We had to go to pick up our kids from baby sitter so we asked for bill again it took them another 20 min to bring the bill . The best part was getting $15 charge as service fee !!!!! It cost us $98 for such a terrible dinner . We will never go back there and for those people who service matter for them I don't recommend this place.. read more
