I live in the neighborhood and decided to check out this place. It was hopping with people and the vibe was busy. Prices are typical SOHO and paying $17 for a drink was to be expected. What did bother me was that for that price, the bartenders measure out the amount of alcohol in your drink. Nothing like a place that is expensive and cheap at the same time. Try the Jimmy at James hotel. It's a block behind this place. If you are going to pay rooftop bar prices, you might as well get the rooftop. #justSaying read more

I really want to love Gilligans. And there really is a lot going for it. Its kinda hidden so its not always crowded, the service is good. But the drinks are just INSANELY expensive. If I'm spending $16+ for a cocktail in the NYC it better be coming with a view (which Gilligans doesn't have). Theres also just never a good time to go, its and outside bar entirely with no escape from the weather so you're completely at the mercy of the season, theres VERY little air (you're between arg buildings) and the only attempt to make it bearable are the water mystifiers. Theres more comfortable bars in the NYC for the price and this isn't it. read more

A hidden getaway smack in the middle of the city, this place transports you to a far away island. Perfect spot to get some tropical drinks while sitting outside in the summer. The watermelon margarita is a must have! They lodge a wedge of watermelon right into your glass. While it is a little pricy, I still would recommend trying if you're in the soho area! read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. Came here last night with a friend and placed an order for a pizza. 45 minutes later we had not seen the waitress and couldn't get a hold of any staff to ask on the status. I walked to the back and asked the manager what the status was. He said that the waitress/kitchen forgot our order and that it was never placed. He said the pizza would be out shortly and that he would bring us a free round of drinks. The drinks came and there was literally a bug in the drink. We gave the waitress the drink to take back and she didn't even apologize for the bug or for the tardiness of the entire thing. The pizza ended up being a flatbread. I would not recommend this place to anyone; the menu is also outrageously overpriced and not worth even a cent of what they charge. Ended up getting up and walking across the street to @MAMO which ended up hitting it out of the park. Needless to say, if you want a 5 star experience, walk across the street to MAMO. read more

Yes, the ambiance and 'decor' are fabulous; you'll feel like you are in an island bar far away from dirty and sticky NYC. BUT, that's about it in terms of pros. CONS: 1. not enough seating. I went around 7pm on a Thursday night in August - fairly cool for an August night I might add - and it was PACKED. An hour wait for a table (there were 4 of us). 2. Only ONE bar outside and only TWO bartenders. One was making drinks for waitresses for table service, so honestly you had ONE bartender for a crowd of about 100. 3. You COULD NOT get close to the bar to order a drink; when you could, you had to scream and lean over all the people sitting at the bar not allowing you to get a drink. I waited 1/2 hour to order 4 drinks. 4. Drinks are outrageously priced. 4 drinks cost me SEVENTY SIX dollars! Are they NUTS. I'm a Manhattan-ite and used to hefty drink prices, but c'mon ... $76.00 for 4 drinks! 5. The frigging misters that literally soak the shit out of you if you are standing anywhere within 2 feet of them! They make you feel like you are in the movie Gorillas in the Mist! Turn them off during the night! I left with my hair soaked. 6. If you are over the age of 25 you're too old. Everyone was straight outta college ... very young crowd, which is strange because they cant afford $20 drinks! read more

I will not be returning here. The vibe and ambiance is super cute however everything else was a disappointment. The food and drinks are beyond overpriced. I got a skirt steak for $32 and it was served with potato chips. All of our appetizers were served at the same time as our entrees and when we asked for more bread for the burrata (it only came with three pieces to begin with) we were charged $5 just for another 3 pieces. Our drinks were delicious but again so overpriced and very little alcohol in them. I walked away from this place super annoyed and very disappointed. Brought my friend here for a 30th birthday dinner and I really regret not choosing a better spot. read more

Drinks are okay - the bartenders seem to be able to make the drinks listed on the menu just fine, but if you stray from what's written, the quality falls off (a request for a dry martini was met with a very vermouthed one instead). The greeter refused to seat us (after asking twice) when there were clearly available seats and we clearly were wanting to sit down and order. I was so excited to organize a Saturday brunch for my girlfriends here. It is such a beautiful place with an amazing potential. I have to admit we were all very disappointed. We all decided to order an avocado toast. What we got was a plane slice of white bread with little avocado and one sunny side egg on top. No salad, no side dish. Price: 16$. And another thing that really bothered us. We came with a puppy since the whole hotel was supposed to be dog friendly. IS IT NOT!! A+ fun atmosphere with bartenders that could use a little customer service training. My friends and I came on a Saturday afternoon for a birthday celebration and I was in love with the look of the place. Plants everywhere, servers in sailor outfits, and an on-theme cocktail menu. We were having a great time sitting by the bar and the bartenders were great! Until at one point they weren't and got rude...My friend asked a guy one question and he responded in a snarky tone and called her "darling" and I also was met with some hostile-ness when I asked if they had any dessert. We were told the kitchen was closing previously, but I've been to places that still offer dessert afterwards, sorry for asking! Anyways overall I did have fun and the drinks were good albeit pricey. I loved Gilligan's Island and I loved the atmosphere so if you can look past a bartender that might change from friendly to not with no warning, I'd say come! :) read more

I love everything about Soho Grand... which is probably why I "almost" live there. Gilligan's has a lovely vibe to it - I think the brunch menu is a little scarce and I prefer the dinner menu. Still, it's the yard and how can we go wrong with that. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE. How have I never heard of it or been there???? Built along the side of the Soho Grand, Gilligan's is a little respite from the busy streets of NYC. It transports you to an idyllic island community complete with pitchers of fruity drinks, people dressed in flowy white outfits and plush couches to sit on. Living the good life. So I've been to this place several times and the service has always been great. Today I received the absolute WORST service by the hostess 1) she turned her back the second myself and 3 friends walked in and 2) when I came back to tell her I'd like a table for myself and my friends she brought me to a 2 seater and when I told her it was 4 she then proceeded to scold me and tell me I should have specified to her that it was 4 people. I thought that's your job as hostess, no? Her attitude, her facial expressions and outright rude demeanor is the reason I won't be back here ever again. Quite a shame. If your in a service based role maybe you should learn how to speak and interact with customers. Put on a face and treat people with respect. read more

We went there tonight with a largish group of Australians. The venue management are much nicer than I remember them being. This place was open a couple of years back - the staff had a bit of attitude then but tonight everyone was very polite and bar staff had good customer service. It was a Tuesday night so this probably lead to better service as the bar was quiet but give them a go! read more

Pros: - Great new outdoor terrace addition to NYC. Love the Montauk-inspired decor and ambience. - Delicious menu including kale salad and pizza. - Food arrived quickly on the night I was there despite it being busy. Cons: - Not enough bar staff when it's busy at the bar on the left. At one point, there was only one bar person and many frustrated customers not getting served. I waited more than 20 minutes to be served. Meanwhile there were two bar helpers with not very much to do, but they couldn't serve drinks. - One of the bar staff at the bar on the left had a total attitude and could do with learning some manners. Please and thank you, and not being rude to customers, goes a long way. The terrace only just opened and it doesn't make you feel like returning if bar staff treat customers in such a disrespectful way. read more

The watermelon margarita was excellent! I will definitely be returning to order the same drink. My friends and I drank, ate and played cards. It's a beautiful and laid back spot. My only con is that when we came inside they acted like it would be very difficult to get in and to seat us. As we walked in, a bunch of tables had Reserved place cards. Your staff needs an attitude check. We came in today for a quick breakfast. The hostess couldn't have been more annoyed to simply do her job and seat us. Our waitress was even worse (didn't catch her name but she was wearing red high tops...). She came over to our table with an attitude right off the bat and said "you want to order?" - no greeting, nothing. My friend asked for cinnamon with her coffee and was answered with a blunt "we don't have that" even though it was legit listed as an ingredient in a cocktail on the menu. I asked a question about the red bitters in a juice and she responded "ummm do you like know what bitters are? It tastes like that." Yes, I know what bitters are but never heard of red bitters, nor have I ever seen them in a juice, so simply wanted to know what they added. I passed on the $14 juice because I did not want to give her my money. If you're going to charge that much for a juice, you could at least answer a question about it. Will not be returning. Beautiful scenery but do yourself a favor and skip. read more

This place is a joke. Came here for brunch. Opens at 12. Atmosphere is probably the best part. Ordered a chicken sandwich and egg sandwich. Chicken came out in 20 mins and the egg sandwich came out in 45. That's the joke. Table of 4 next to us everyone got served but one. They finished their food before she even got her Barbata. Waitress never asked how the food was. Didn't even bother trying to get ketchup. Change for the check is currently taking about 15 min. read more
