If I could give this place 100 stars I would. I've been to downtown Stone Mountain plenty of times and had never come across Gilly Brew Bar before now. I stumbled upon this place after making a lunch date with a friend of mine and was NOT disappointed. Firstly, the coffee shop itself has such an outdoor mossy feel with plenty of plants in the interior as decor. This place was giving off such calming energy which made my experience amazing. The two baristas gave beyond excellent service and gave me lots of recommendations on food and drinks to order. Parking is quite slim as it is downtown, but there are surrounding areas which allow you a quick walk to get here. Moved to the area a bit over a year ago and was nervous I wouldn't find a good coffee spot. SO glad I listened to a friend and tried Gillys! The BLT on a croissant is fire every time and every coffee I've tried doesn't disappoint. Helps that all of the staff is super friendly and personable too! Def recommend. We stopped through this cute little coffee shop during our roadtrip travels and I was SO impressed with not only the coffee, but the service. I ordered an iced lavender latte - I'm a sucker for lavender and this is the best lavender latte I've ever had. The lavender wasn't overpowering, it was perfectly proportioned. My bf ordered the wild honey latte and his was also fantastic - I've never had a wild honey latte before, but this one is up there for me - really incredible lattes across the board. Neat repurposed older 2 story home with creative drinks and incredibly friendly and caring staff. This place is my kind of place. Very chill environment, over the top friendly staff (when they brought out my drink, they asked the other customers out here if they would like some water or needed anything). Adorning the walls is variety of artwork, some for sale, in various forms and prices. Upstairs is what appears to be a working artist's studio. From the outside upstairs porch, you have a great view of the public library (a treasure in every community!), downtown Stone Mountain Village, and trees as far as the eye can see. It's been a minute since I've been to Gilly. I happened to be in the area and in need of coffee and decided to stop in. I'm glad I did. Normally, I order a cappuccino but this day I ordered a latte. The barista asked if I wanted any sweetener and of course I said no. Sweetener is for wusssies. Just kidding. Unless it's a seasonal or signature drink I pass on anything extra. I cycled at Stone Mountain and decided to try this cute little coffee shop. The building is being renovated but the part that is open is very rustic and welcoming. I ordered the twice baked butter croissant which had an almond paste, powdered sugar and pecans. It was delish and I also had a cup of coffee. What a beautifully quaint and cozy stop this was during my visit to Stone Mountain. I needed to kill some time before hotel check-in so I stopped by Gilly's to do some work. First thing's first, I'm a sucker for a porch! The wrap around porches drew me in like a moth to a flame. It was a breezy Spring day, perfect for outside dining and they have plenty of spaces to choose from. The building has a Southern charm, with hardwood floors and big windows. Once inside you're greeted by their awesome staff and mouthwatering scents from the kitchen. I had a green tea that was the bomb dot com and headed upstairs to hop on their free wifi network. The place was beautiful, lively, and I really enjoyed my drink so this would definitely be one of my go-to places if I lived in the area. read more

I met up with a friend on a Friday afternoon and the weather was simply beautiful for us to sit outside and catch up while we enjoyed a nice cup of coffee. We went inside to place our food and drink order and was told there was a pause on the kitchen, but our drinks would be out soon and our food shortly after that. It did take a long minute for our food to come, but it was certainly worth the wait. I ordered the golden latte and the Im melting tuna sandwich while my friend had a matcha latte and the lox please! We both enjoyed our meal and the ambiance. The service was great as well! There are a few other menu items that I'd like to try, so I will definitely be back! read more

this place is the definition of HOLE IN THE WALL the area seems really quiet and the cafe looks like an old house. Their coffee was so good. I got an iced americano with a cinnamon twist bread before hiking at Stone Mt. The bean was a medium to light roast and it was so delicious. This was great find during my travels in Georgia. I ordered a cappuccino and it was really good!! It had nothing to envy cappuccinos in Europe. I also had a double baked croissant with almond paste inside and crunchy nuts on top. It was very sweet but just what I wanted. The house were the coffee shop is located is awesome too. This Stone Mountain staple located in the Historical Stone Mountain village, gives me hope for the progressive direction of the village. Located in an old colonial building. Unfortunately, I don't know the history of the building. The staff are so nice, I'm sure they can give some insight. Menu, includes cafe options, pastries and food. That's right they serve hot breakfast and lunch. If you have no clue, what to order- don't be shy, ask. The staff are awesome. Maybe it's the aroma of caffeine in the air. Ordered at the counter and waited 35 minutes for open-faced sourdough slice w cheese and veggie when it was not at all busy. "To stay" order served in paper cup with plastic utensils. For so many reasons, including the environment and perception, I'd suggest investing in washable cups/mugs and utensils. No pricing on paper (daily-prepared?) menus which I found off putting. $16 for small sourdough slice and latte is at the high end. Food was tasty and fresh and the latte was well-made. Some kinks to work out here for sure. Worth a try if you're in the area - especially on a nice day when you might avail yourself of the lovely antebellum second story wraparound porch. read more

From the old southern building with an outdoor patio on the second floor and a view of Stone Mountain, to the beautifully friendly human (Kadeem) manning the register and making wonderful recommendations, to the Cortado with a hint of Jasmine served with sparkling water (which is the proper way) and Grown-folks Grilled Cheese. Everything. If I lived down the street, this cafe' would be sick of me. There are indoor and outdoor seating areas. And a really cool vibe. This place almost became one of my favorite spots until I found out that they treat their staff horribly! I always wondered what happened to the sudden quality change of their services. Turns out one of their best baristas got into a fatal accident and their lead didn't say a word to the boy. Not giving your servers credit for how well of a job they do for you is simply not okay. Calling them replaceable should NEVER be called for! I expected better from a black owned business. No employee should undergo such mental stressors with such little incentive by the management. Went here to cowork the other day and thought it was pretty good! The food and drinks were amazing and they even had specials that sounded great but we didn't try them this time, we just wanted plain lattes and cappuccinos but I will definitely try one of the specialty drinks next time. The barista loved talking about them. She was super friendly and very welcoming! The only complaint I would have would be for the working space. It wasn't my favorite place to stay to get work done. The wifi worked great but the seating was uncomfortable. We sat on the church pew benches that they had and the material was itchy and left sort of like flakes on my pants. I think it was just very old. And someone came in and was playing the piano pretty loudly so it wasn't the best working space IMO. Also very little parking. Only a few spots on the side. I would definitely go back to get food and drinks to go or to meet a friend and sit on the patio on a nice day but probably wouldn't go back to cowork. read more

I love supporting black businesses so I drove all the way from the Vinnings Area to check this spot out. First- parking: I was a little confused as to where the official parking is. This bar is located in an old house located on the corner. There is minimal space next to the house to park. I noticed that other patrons were parking across the street at the public library. I am not certain that this is approved parking, but I did not have any issues while I ran inside. The staff working the bar was very friendly. He greeted me the moment I walked in. He also advised that they were behind on making drinks and asked me to place my order online. There is ample seating at this coffee shop. I love the fact that they have a porch so you can enjoy your drinks while soaking in some vitamin D. I opted to sit upstairs. This area is small with only a few tables. My concern- they should clean the carpet. I was turned off by the stains. Additionally there is a Trip hazard of an outlet located in the floor next to a table. I personally tripped over this outlet box. I placed my order online for a matcha latte with almond milk and an Apple muffin. The cost for these two items was $10.80. This included the additional dollar charge for almond milk. My drink did not take nearly as long as I anticipate. However it was indeed delayed. I had an appointment to make so I decided to take my drink and muffin to go. The drink was a matcha latte. Nothing special at all. The muffin- I loved! I am not sure that they are house made, but the taste was out of this world. If you are in the area and need a coffee drink I would suggest checking them out. Talk about a coffee house. This place is a dream. Truly. The people and the vibes make this place feel like home. The staff can make any drink you want. They have lovely flavor add ons. They are great at mixing and creating new flavors to die for. I have never been more happy to have a barista help me pick my order. Any drink you get is sure to be good. They also have a kitchen for the second half of the week. I haven't had the pleasure of dining there... but it smells amazing. Now the vibes. This place is stunning. The downstairs hall is decked with church pews and marble tables with gold accents. Upstairs feels like an edgy bar meets your grandmother's beautiful living room. There are hammocks upstairs on the patio. And the front patio captures the city of stone mountain so well. This is a must visit. Wifi never stops. This is a special place. The historical plantation home of the first mayor of Stone Mountain redesigned as a specialty coffee cafe. Although the space is dark, there is warmth in each of the rooms. There is an artist in residence, a cafe area, a garden room, an outdoor space, a reading area, and probably some hidden gems I didn't see. The owner talked to me about his vision and his hopes. He cares deeply not just about serving a great cup of coffee or tasty treats, but he cares deeply about the Stone Mountain community. He sees a future and he is actively paving the way for a vibrant revitalization of the downtown district. I had a pour over cup of coffee on a rainy Tuesday and it was just what I needed.
