I have lived in and near downtown Stone Mountain for years and had been wanting to try this place. FINALLY made it. Me and a few friends tried it and when I tell you this place is NOT what I thought, but in a good way! First off, our waiter Ted was fantastic. All of us were first timer so he broke everything down, gave us a few faces by patrons and his personal faves. He was patient with us and gave us the best customer service. The restaurant itself is very unique. I love they had a small seating area with a small stage close, there's a private dining area, a bar and table and booth seating. It's not a huge space but it is big enough to be comfortable and cozy. Wasn't loud and even when the artist came up to play music, it wasn't too loud it still blended well with the restaurant noise. Ted emphasized that everything in here is made from scratch except a few things. For starters we had fried okra and a colossal shrimp cocktail. They both were great starters. I had a whiskey sour as well which was really good. I had a hard time choosing but I wound up getting the prime rib sandwich with mashed potatoes, my sis did prime rib as well but with oxtail collard greens and my other sis had the surf and turf special. We had such a lovely dining experience at Cherokee Rose. Our party of eight; four adults and four children arrived after being turned away from another restaurant that was closing early, and we couldn't be happier that we ended up here. Everyone was incredibly accommodating and welcoming. The food was absolutely amazing, truly 5-stars quality across the board. The smoked filet was phenomenal, and the craft cocktails, white sangria, and wine selection were all excellent. Even though there wasn't a children's menu, the staff went above and beyond to make sure our kids were taken care of. The chef even prepared special dishes just for them, which we truly appreciated. Great food and dining experience! Made reservations here for their private dining room for my mom's 60th birthday. Steve was an amazing host providing us with great service and assistance during our time there. The food and drinks were also wonderful I enjoyed the penicillin cocktail and their house made pickles. My entree i chose the trout which was just ok it could have used more seasoning but I did enjoy my sides of grits and corn casserole. I also got to try the lamb with the chimichirri sauce which was absolutely amazing. I also heard rave reviews from some of the party guests about the short rib and smoked chicken too. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and helpful, thankfully, since this was our first visit. The food was top shelf. The wife and I both had the 12oz prime rib and my son got the beef short rib. No one finished their meal. If you want a relaxed, laidback ambiance with nice stiff cocktails and great food, this is your place. We made reservations about 2 hours ahead of time. No issue! The street parking is very limited in front of the restaurant but there is a parking lot diagonally across the intersection. We had no problem finding a spot there. There is a full bar in the middle of the restaurant and dining on either side with a private room in the back. The atmosphere was nice with live music on a Friday night. We've been to this restaurant a handful of times including brunch and a private event. The service and the food are both good including on this occasion. We started with the smoked chicken cheese spread ($12). It came out piping hot and works very well with the pita bread that comes with it. The gold beet salad ($10) was fresh and had a great mix of flavors with feta, pecans, beets and a lemon vinaigrette dressing. My husband had the NY strip which was the special of the night ($38) with 2 sides, mashed potatoes and green beans. My husband couldn't stop raving about the steak. The sides were decent. I ordered the shredded pork which also came with 2 sides, collard greens and corn pudding ($28). I really enjoyed the sides I chose. The pork was good and tender but I didn't care for the house bbq sauce. Our server Mia was great and we finished with her favorite dessert lemon cake ($9) which was moist and yummy. OMGOSH literally the absolute BEST catfish I've had in my lifetime! An absolute MUST if you are visiting the area. You will NOT be disappointed! The food makes up for the lack of quality service. Service is slow and lacking. We sat for such a long time and other tables orders taken before ours when we were seated first. We had to flag down the hostess and ask if we were going to be waited on. Then my order got messed up with the incorrect side coming out. So bad! But on to the best part! The catfish! The fish is breaded in a light breading and just so moist and flavorful. It's laid on top of a house made tartar sauce and chimichurri sauce. The tartar is a bit on the spicy side due to it having jalapeño in it so next time I'd get on the side. And really the fish didn't need any sauce at all because it was just so good by itself. I actually ended up taking it off the sauce because the sauce was a bit too much. And you get so much food!! This is quality food! I think this was the best place I ate, hands down during our entire trip! I'll always remember the catfish and if I do come back I'll definitely come here to eat!!! I've been to Cherokee Rose twice for brunch. Both times, they rocked my socks off. First of all, service is outstanding. Both times I've been, staff worked hard to make sure everyone's order was to their liking and that no one wanted for anything. Both times, they took a reservation, once for a very large party, and provided exemplary service without even flinching. The food itself is just incredible. Cherokee Rose does BBQ, but their brunch deserves a huge round of applause. Among the hits I saw on the table were the Eggs Benedict (made on a crawfish cake), the Steak & Eggs (mmmm), the Crispy Catfish and grits, and the Shredded Pork Hash. I doubt there's anything on the menu that you would choose to avoid. The trouble is going to be isolating the goodness down to your favorite. The restaurant requires street parking, and if you can't find that, there's a reasonable paid lot just across the corner from the restaurant. The restaurant itself spacious and comfortable. Tall ceilings and lots of wood. It can get a little loud from time to time, especially if there's live music happening. But I can't wait for my next visit there. He did come and check on us and another worker came to check as well. The food came out quickly and the chicken was super hot!!! The sides were warm at best. The mushrooms and the potatoes were enjoyable. I think if they were a little hotter it would have tasted better. The portions were shareable for the most part, I was able to taste both types of chicken. The fried chicken could have used more seasoning but all in all it was edible.
