I normally do not leave negative reviews, but after my recent experience I feel it is important to share what happened. During my most recent cleaning, the hygienist cut my lower right gum quite severely while scaling. At the time I did not immediately realize the extent of it because the area had been numbed. Once the numbing wore off, I started experiencing significant pain in that area. I initially assumed my gums were just a little sensitive from the cleaning, but the pain never improved. Over the next several days the pain became worse and began radiating through the right side of my mouth and face. I experienced sharp, shooting gum pain and even headaches on that side. The original injury was on the lower right gum, but I am now experiencing sensitivity in multiple teeth on the right side, both upper and lower, especially when eating. It has now been about two weeks and the pain and sensitivity are still present. I have had many dental cleanings over the years and have never experienced anything like this before. A routine cleaning should not result in this level of gum trauma or lingering nerve pain. Unfortunately this is not the first issue I have had with this office. Several years ago I had a crown done here that was not completed properly. When I raised concerns at the time, the office blamed my orthodontist for the problem. However, when I later returned to my orthodontist, they immediately noticed the issue with the crown and commented that the dental work had not been done the way it should have been. Between the improperly handled crown and the injury during my recent cleaning, I no longer feel confident in the quality of care provided here. Dental work requires precision and attention to detail, and my experiences here unfortunately have not reflected that. UPDATE TO OWNER RESPONSE: this is the correct office. Had a dental emergency and knew beforehand I'll be needing a root canal. Arrived for a quick exam that lasted about 30 minutes. They were more interested in upselling solutions for fixing my smile. Whoever the dentist was took a Quick Look and then some photos. In and out in less then 30 minutes. Now they're trying to collect almost $300 for that exam. They're money hungry and would charge you for anything if you decide not to continue with their services read more

Everyone here is very nice and friendly. UNFORTUNATELY, I had to get a filling and I came here as I was out of town and most of my family live in Gilroy. So out of convenience, I came in maybe a total of 4 times. Those were just for standard cleanings. When it came time to get my filling, everything went well. It wasn't until about 6 months later that the filling started to lift and it was uncomfortable in my mouth. It wasn't hurting or anything, but just uncomfortable. Then all of A SUDDEN today I was flossing and poof, the filling came out of my mouth . Very annoyed. Very disappointed that they poorly did the filling in the first place. Now I have to wait until tomorrow, Monday morning to go to a more qualified dentist. In the meantime, I have to live with this exposed hole in my mouth and slight tooth pain. What a great day it is! Way late in life, a wisdom tooth previously regarded as unproblematic decided to make a move. It soon damaged the molar in front of it, and my previous dentist didn't catch it when I complained of cold sensitivity. (In fact, he fixed the wrong tooth.) That office's oral surgeon recommended a very costly and invasive process involving extraction of both the wisdom tooth and the molar, and later installing an implant to replace the molar. A 2nd-opinion consult at Stanford Medical School cost me hundreds of dollars and yielded the same recommendation. So before going through all that, I decided to check with Dr. Jerry Mancuso at the conveniently-located and thoroughly-modern Gilroy Dental Associates. He's an ex Navy doc --always a good indication of practicality and solid work that gets the patient back to normalcy quickly. Sure enough: On reviewing my situation, Dr. Mancuso felt there was a decent chance that the molar could be saved, with a crown instead of an extraction-and-eventual-implant. If so: less costly, quicker recovery, and way less fraying of my nerves. If not, well then we'd deal with it. But neither of the two other oral surgeons I'd previously consulted had even raised the possibility of saving the molar. Sold. And Dr. Mancuso could not have been more adept. The wisdom tooth popped right out with his skilled encouragement, and then Dr. Linga Vuppala joined to make quick work of crowning the damaged molar. Today, after a couple more visits for routine cleaning and a cracked-tooth fix, I'm impressed by how everything done in this clinic is a well-choreographed team effort that maximizes my well-being and respects my finances. Great group. I feel very fortunate to have found them right here in Gilroy. Everyone is pleasant too, with abundant humor... I'd say "smiles all around" but that's a pretty worn-out dentist-office pun by now . Yet it's true. read more

Went in with horrible tooth pain, I'm talking throbbing not able to eat almost throwing up it hurt so bad. They saw me and told me to take Tylenol (which I had been taking my weight in and nothing was helping me) and quoted me $1500 to get the tooth pulled. I called back after about an hour of them seeing me to see if there was anything else they could possibly give me to help with the excruciating pain I was in because the Tylenol wasn't doing anything. They said no and if I wanted something else I needed to contact my regular healthcare provider.... I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in. The reception staff were friendly, and my dental hygienist (Elysa, I think) was very professional, friendly and answered all my questions! I was nervous since I hadn't been to a dentist in 17 years. The doctor was also very friendly and appeared to be genuinely sympathetic and caring. I have had a couple bad experiences at this location. The first time I brought it my daughter and I was recommended to see the oral surgeon and when I scheduled the appointment i was told that It was complementary. When having no insurance the cost is very important. So We came in for the oral surgeon and they took some xrays with out asking if it was ok. So when we checked out they wanted me pay over 500 dollars. So they had made a mistake when booking the appointment and it turns out the is a charge plus the xrays that were taken with out my consent. Luckily I took the name of the girl who schedule me for the appointment and told them she said no charge for consultation. They made me pay anyway. I was told I could talk to the manager but they did not get back to me. I had to wait for days before someone got back to me. After a long conversation with the office manager she game credit for the consultation they only made me paid the xrays. I have experience working in a Dental office for over 15 years. They had to inform me of the charge for the xray before they take it. So they failed to do that. I had to pay for something that was not discussed ahead of time so that was wrong on their end. So the next time I brought my daughter to get an regular exam cleaning and cleaning I asked for the price they said $450.00. So I know ahead of time. I took her to the appointment and this time what caught my attention was that when The dentist walked into the room he immediately looked at the xrays and said wow you have a lot of cavities, when he had not even glanced at her mouth. To me that is a big red flag because same thing based on my experience you do not make a diagnose without doing and exam, he had not even done a scaling on her teeth... so she got diagnosed with 9 cavities some mod's witch mean big cavities in 3 different areas of the same tooth. They gave me a treat plan to pay for close to 3K for the cavities to be filled. I had a bad feeling about this whole experience and so I contacted 2 of the dentist I used to work for. They both said my daughter had no cavities and they even consulted with another collage of theirs to triple check. So with this, I totally lost all trust. They are all for the money, not for patients care. I wouldn't come back for any dentistry work! They are not honest and they lack many things and most important humanity. If you go here make sure you take a second opinion elsewhere before doing any work there. They are after your money. read more

This place is terrible! For starters they injected my sister with numbing medication and then left her or should I say forgot about her for over an hour to the point that the numbing solution was gone and they had to re inject her. 2 I had some fillings done there that "came out" so they said they would re do them at no charge but still charged me ! I smell FRAUD ! THEN I called to tell them I have dual coverage and they informed me that I was no longer covered by my mother!. Come to find out I still am ! I can honestly say I had a wonderful experience from a very caring and professional staff. I hadn't seen a dentist for at least 5 years and I felt well cared for and respected. The hygienist (whose name was Diane I think) cleaning was done by hand thoroughly and gently. She explained every procedure perfectly. The front office person whose name I forget was very professional as well. She thoroughly explained the billing and was great at finding me my next 2 appts. Just had my teeth cleaned by Nancy Torres, I was overdue for a cleaning and she hand scaled my entire mouth, I prefer that over the scaling machine. I didn't even ask, she just knew what would work best. She was so personable, I really enjoyed chatting with her. When the doctor did the exam, she didn't try to oversell treatment. Just when you thought going to the dentist would be scary, Gilroy Dental Associates would make you think otherwise!! Dr. Vuppala and his girls are genuinely welcoming to me and my family. I previously was in the care of South Bay dental in San Jose, which now under a whole different ownership. They were okay but very unorganized and always had me waiting too long. Every time I walk into Gilroy Dental Associates I feel like I'm in and out! At the same time I feel that the front desk girls really wanna make sure I'm properly taken care of ! I have been living in Gilroy for 3yrs now and this is my fist time in a dentist office in the area. Let me start off by saying I have many dentists in my time, from area in Palo Alto to San Jose. Gilroy Dental Associates hands down is one of the best I've had the pleasure of going to. The office is very clean and tidy. The staff is quick to great, very polite and provided all the needed forms to sign. My appointment was on time with no issues. My dental technician (not sure of the correct term) was the high light of the experience. Her name was Rupal. She was amazing. She made me feel comfortable, explained in great detail all the procedures and just had an interest in who I was. We even got to practice speaking Russian, which I enjoyed. Her cleaning style was gentle yet thorough, which if anyone knows is pretty hard to achieve, but she knocked it out. Overall, I highly recommend this establishment. Gilroys finest! read more

While the staff here is friendly trying to get answers to questions for your childrens care is impossible. My husband and I have been calling for weeks to get answers about our child's braces that were put on our child's teeth with no consultation to the plan of care with either of us. This review is for Dr. Kinberly Antrim - she is amazing! I came to her over 2 years ago because I had bitten into a crab shell (which is frowned upon) causing extreme, agonizing pain. Well, that extreme, agonizing pain turned into a deep cleaing with no relief and then a (two day) root canal. I won't disclose which tooth, but it's a pretty big and visible one. Dr. Antrim and her staff were beyond accommodating and patient with me. The crown looks so real and hasn't given me any problems. If it wasn't for them I'd probably toothless and miserable. Scheduling appoinments is fairly easy, if you have an open schedule. They also remind you about your appointments like crazy (phone call, email and text). New patients and a yelp check in will get you $256 off which includes free necessary x-rays, new patient examination and consultation. Great deal for those who have sketchy dental insurance. This dental office is very clean and calming. It helps with the anxiety of seeing the dentist, because as "they" say, "most people wait till it's too late." read more

My experience in coming to this office has been superb! Leslie, who cleans my teeth is gentle but thorough. I have a very sensitive mouth and she has even recommended a great product to help my dryness. Because of the dryness problems, I have needed a lot of work done in the past year. Both Dr. Nishimura and Dr. Wu were gentle and did a good job. Even when getting anesthetized, (the needle) each assistant was so gentle, there was no pain.) Most recently, I needed two crowns replaced and Veronica (I am not sure of her professional title) did most of the work. She is excellent! As mentioned by other reviewers, the staff is always letting you know what they are doing and why. Having dental work done makes us feel very vulnerable, but I can put my complete trust in them. And yes, the front office does a commendable job too! Why would anyone want to go someplace else? This office is the best! I have been a patient of Gilroy Dental Associates for over 20 years now. I have never been disappointed about the service I have received all these years. I fell in love with this dentistry the first time Dr. Nishimura had to give me a novacaine shot in preparation of getting a cavity taken care of that appointment. He was so gentle that I hardly knew that I was getting the injection. I have NEVER had a Novocain given to me before or after Dr Gary Nishimura. I've been coming to this dental office since 2010, and couldn't be happier with the service and the quality of work. I have been worked on by more than one dentist at this office, and all of them have gone out of there way to explain what they are going to do and why. It's comforting to be shown the x-ray and to have the dentist explain what the problem is. The front office staff is also very friendly and conversational. They also play movies for you while they are working on your teeth, which helps to make the horrible chore of getting your teeth filled a little bit less miserable.
