My daughter's Invisalign journey was far longer than originally thought because she was not as diligent about wearing the liners, but Dr. Gimlen wants things looking perfect despite the extra time and materials this added to her treatment. We are incredibly grateful to her and after at least several years of visiting her offices, we were always treated kindly with friendly staff who cared about you. We started at Gimlen based on a glowing referrals from a few of our friends. We had completed Phase 1 for our oldest daughter at another well-known orthodontist and we're getting ready to start Phase 1 for our youngest based on their recommendation. We decided to get a 2nd opinion from Gimlen and we are so glad we did. Not only did our youngest daughter not need orthodontics immediately but we continued to do regular 6 month check-ins for 2 years before actually starting her. I really don't know where to start to tell you how incredible Dr. Gimlen is. I am not exaggerating when I say she truly saved my life. I came to her in major pain with a bite that was so off it was causing me incredible pain plus TMJ (plus other teeth issues). I'm 47 with three kids and it was the most discomfort I've ever experienced in my life. I couldn't sleep for months, eating was hard. There are so many wonderful things to say about this place. Dr. Gimlen is kind, really great with kids, and really knows her craft. We drive from 5 cities away just to see her. Prices are great here and she doesn't try to upsell you on things you don't need. The rest of her staff are always very happy and seem happy to be working there. It is never hard to make an appointment, and there are two locations, both of which are very clean. I have never had any trouble finding street parking. Would not recommend. The front office makes too many appointment mistakes causing a month delay with old trays. They don't check their notes when we are on the 4 day light plan instead of the 7 day regular plan. Absolutely loved our experience there! We had our dentist in west LA recommend finding a local ortho, and I'm usually hesitant about seeing a non-LA doctors and dentists because I think they're the best. But!! Dr Gimlen was amazing and so kind and sweet! She was very honest and completely understood our situation. She seemed very knowledgeable and most importantly of all (to me) was GREAT WITH KIDS!! They are very covid conscious which I really appreciated (we were all double masked!) The entire staff was super kind and patient with my extremely chatty 6 year old son. I came here to get a permanent retainer removed because I was going to start wearing aligners to readjust a few teeth that have moved over the years. I came only for that and agreed to pay the $120 cost. The staff was friendly until they asked why I was doing this. They were clearly annoyed when I mentioned I was going through Smile Direct Club (no dentist required) instead of Invisalign with them for the minor movements I wanted for my teeth. Once I had told them that, their demeanor noticeably changed although the entire reason for my visit was just a retainer removal. I was moved to the chair where she pulled off my permanent retainer with her pliers and didn't clean off the residual cement. I asked her to remove the cement and she said that the hygienist will take care of it whenever my next cleaning is and walked away. So I left with all the 12 year old remaining gritty cement on the back of my teeth. Overall disappointing to see the level of care drop when they find out they're not going to be providing an expensive service and not follow through on what they've already been paid for. If I had known they wouldn't bother to even clean the residual cement off, I'd have just pulled the retainer off myself and saved $120. read more

I've been told that Gimlen Orthodontics was the best with patient care, but unfortunately I did not feel this was the case after today's visit. My aunt brought my daughter to her first consultation in El Segundo a few weeks ago because I could not get out of work. My aunt said that everyone at that location was so nice and explained the whole process. For today's visit we were scheduled for to go to the Manhattan location. I could not find the location after driving up and down the road several times. I called 5 or 6 times but no one answered the phone. Finally, I decided to take my chances with one of the plaza buildings, and I found it. My daughter and I sat and waited for a good 15 minutes before we were greeted. Finally a hygienist came up and said, "someone will be with you." I decided to smile and give them a chance anyway since this is Southern California and sometimes business are hard to find and parking is crazy. They were probably very busy prepping for the day, so I get it. The woman at the front desk finally arrived and went over our financial plan with us. She was very nice and informative. After speaking with her I went down stairs to parking to make sure I could park in the spot I parked in. When I came back up one of the assistants had already taken my daughter to x-rays. I said, "Hi!" The assistant said, "We're just doing x-rays and you can have a seat around the corner." After the x ray she began working on my daughter's teeth but I'm still sitting in the corner. Finally after about 15 minutes I asked another assistant if I could sit close to my daughter or if I had to sit in the corner? They said I could sit next to her. The whole time the assistant worked in my daughter's teeth she was quiet and did not say anything to explain the process to me. She quietly spoke to my daughter but failed to say from the beginning, "Hi, my name is...., and I'll be helping out with the process." She failed to even make small talk. No one in the room spoke to me so I sat there awkwardly about to cry because I had never felt so ostracized in my life. I almost had a panic attack. I had no idea who the orthodontist even was until the assistant called her by her name. Even then she didn't say, "Hi I'm Dr. Gimland, nice to meet you. What's your name?" The staff was pleasant to other patients but again, no small talk or even trying to make us feel welcomed. Also there are signs in the office in two different places asking for you not to use your cell phone. I totally get it, it can be a distraction and it's rude to be on your phone the whole time. However, my husband called to see if he needed to my daughter up or if I was going to take her back to school. I ran out of the office to catch my husband's call and told him they were almost finished. I came back and the assistant had just finished explaining the after care to my daughter. I said, "I'm sorry my husband just called to see if needed to pick her up... I just missed everything you said. She said, "No problem, we're all done now. Do you have any questions?" I wanted her to repeat what she had said but she looked at me waiting for me to ask a question, so I said, "No, we're good." I feel like if I am going to pay over $3,000 for braces then the staff could be a little more friendly and inviting. I've never experienced this at any orthodontist office or dental office. I'm not sure if it was just this location or the practice vibe in general is usually this way. I will be looking for another orthodontist soon. I'm so disappointed because I had heard so many great things about this place. read more

I went to Duffin Adams and Gimlen in August of 2007 to get Invisalign. I had braces when I was younger but didn't wear my retainers and my teeth moved right back to where they were pre-braces. Note to all kids out there- WEAR YOUR RETAINERS!! I had a consultation with Dr. Amy Gimlen and we talked about what I was hoping to accomplish with orthodontia. Dr. Gimlen is great, she is very easy to talk to and lets you be a part of your treatment plan. She explains the whole process from beginning to end and makes sure that you are going to get the smile you've always hoped for. It's important to have an orthodontist who has the same goal as you do up front because especially with Invisalign, you plan out the whole treatment up front. Duffin Adams and Gimlen also has a patient website which is so cool- you can actually log in and see your before pictures and watch your Invisalign treatment video that shows how your teeth will change throughout the course of wearing them. It's really helpful to get a visual of what your teeth are going to look like in the end. And it makes suffering through days of sore teeth totally worth it!! I'm almost done with my Invisalign and I am SO happy with the results. Appointments have been a breeze and I never have to wait to see the orthodontist or spend hours in the chair. The staff is all very nice and understanding- I'm not one of those people who hates the dentist but they are so caring and sweet that if you are freaked out by wires and machinery anywhere near your face, they will work with you. I've been seen at both their offices (El Segundo and Manhattan Beach) and it's easy to find parking and convenient and close to most South Bay locations. I never had braces as a child and my teeth were pretty crooked. Finally in my 20s I decided to get braces. I went to Drs Duffin, Adams and Gimlen and they provided me with Invisalign and are now finalizing with a retainer. They are all amazing Doctors and very attentive. I went to Duffin Adams and Gimlen in March 2010 to start my treatment with them. Now this is my second time around getting braces as I lost my retainers while in college and didn't get replacements. The lesson I learned is ALWAYS wear your retainers. I had a consultation, quote, and then started my service with them. Now, this orthodontist group isn't cheap, it's on the higher priced of orthodontists, but to be honest, after now officially having went to 2 orthodontists offices so far in my life, I found Duffin Adams & Gimlen to be very well worth the money. They did a great job in terms of quality of their service. I mean it's your smile on the line and that's worth the expense to get an amazing smile. Luckily my job's insurance covered a decent portion of the service and the remaining I budgeted ahead of time on my Health Savings Account. I have to add they have a easy to browse website that keeps track of your expenses, appointments, photos, and xrays. I liked to login on my cell and show my boyfriend what my teeth xrays looked like before and after as you can see the changes on there. Comparing this place to the place I got my braces the first time around, Duffin Adams Gimlen was way better/worth it. And I feel like most people would never know who is a better orthodontist because usually people only go to one orthodontist in their life. Now that I've experienced here, I know now what a professional establishment should be like. Dr. Adams and Gimlen are really attentive and helpful to any of my questions. I had an option of getting invisalign or clear braces and I ended up selecting clear braces as it would have a more effective result for my teeth. Clear braces actually was quoted to cost more than Invisalign for me. I actually didn't mind the clear braces and had them on for about 1.5 years. Mind you as an adult getting braces it was a little nerve wrecking to think about getting them again, but they were so good at applying them it was a great experience. Parking here at Manhattn Beach offices is street parking only, but I usually always found parking if not right by the offices, just around the corner. They have early morning appointments at 7:30 on Wednesdays that work out perfectly for me due to work. Fast forward to now, and I'm extremely happy with the results. The staff is very knowledgeable, accommodating and friendly. Their state-of-the-art equipment is unique. Martha, who operated the cameras and X-ray machines, is proficient and she showed me the "pictures" she took. The first office call was very positive, too. I've been going to Dr. Duffin since 2004, they remodeled the office which looks great. Now that Dr. Duffin is no longer available Dr. Adams has treated me well as a patient. My retainer broke. They offered competitive prices in comparison to the San Diego orthodontists I requested an estimate from. Kudos to understanding we're in a recession, specifically to Cris on the phone. Joan the front desk staff is nice. Cons: parking is bad, no Friday availability and their website isn't as good as the other orthodontists' or dentists' websites I've seen. read more

She actually talked us out of pricey and involved work that we had been told was necessary! Dr. Gimlen believed the problem would correct itself before the time braces were needed since we had no such family history of that. (The other office never bothered to ask such questions!)
