This is by far the best Chinese place in the area. We eat here at least once a month since the food is made fresh, is delicious, and is really inexpensive. The general tso is our favorite but we've never gotten anything here we didn't like. The spring rolls, crab Rangoon, and lettuce wraps are wonderful and even the egg drop soup is good (and I usually don't care for it!) Truly a hidden gem, you won't be sorry you chose Ginger. For Pekin this would be a 5. Overall a 3 for me. The food isn't spicy when marked as such. Hot sour soup isn't very good. Spring rolls are a little lackluster not fresh made, frozen if not store bought. Chicken satay wasn't anything like any place I've had fried not grilled. Great food we both had the chicken pad Thai and shared the sampler platter. The pad Thai was pretty freakin awesome. I would order it again. The sampler platter was good too. I'm from California originally, and have been to a lot of Asian restaurants. Generally, the quality of ethnic food in this part of Illinois leaves a lot to be desired. We went here for a Sunday dinner, and definitely weren't disappointed. We started with an order of crab Rangoon, and spring rolls. Both were delicious, and perfect for our group of four. I ordered the broccoli chicken, which was amazing. It had the perfect proportions of chicken and broccoli, and I got my own individual bowl of rice. There was more than enough for two meals, and the leftovers tasted just as good! Our server was very friendly, everything came out quickly, and she kept our drinks full! The food is wonderful, when you get the right food. The waitress mixed and elderly couples food up with ours and instead of giving us the right food she continued to ignore the fact that it wasn't correct so while we eat orange chicken which is to sweet of our taste the elderly couple had General tsao chicken which was to spice for them neither of us left happy. We would have informed her that our food wasn't right but she never came beck to check on us. Ginger Asian Bistro is the best kept secret in Central Illinois. The first time I went there I ordered something to go - Panko Breaded Sole. When I got home I was delighted at how well the food had been packaged (not your standard styrofoam) and it was still hot. - AND, their "ginger-lime sauce" is the absolute tastiest condiment I have ever had. Since then I have eaten at Ginger every chance I get. While my favorite is still the Panko Breaded Sole, I also recommend the Coconut Chicken and I don't think you can find anything on their menu that isn't served hot, fresh with generous-sized portions and the presentation is wonderful. They have lunch specials starting at 5.95 and the most expensive thing I saw on the menu was a scallop dish at 13.00 (which I've also tried and it's incredible). I saw where one reviewer was "disappointed" to not find a buffet there - because a member of their party did not care for Asian food. I am surprised they did not notice there are also several Italian entrees on the menu. (because it seemed to be an odd mix, I asked and learned that the chef had also been also trained in fine Italian Cuisine). Ginger is also the only place I've found that offers edamame as an appetizer - another favorite of mine. If you are looking for the usual bland fare found on the several asian/chinese buffet type restaurants, you won't find it here. You will find fresh-prepared food that is 100% better!! The restaurant is run by a Chinese immigrant family, who are by no means wealthy. It is a strip mall Chinese restaurant, and gets the appropriate amount of attention. It has a total of 4 servers, and only 1 or 2 are normally on staff. Some days when there is only one server, they are surprised by a large amount of people coming in at once, and the server will have to scramble in a sweat to get everything done. I would attribute most of the "bad waiter" comments to this. Yes, certain foods are frozen. They do not have the clientel or the income to get everything fresh all the time. If you're elitist about it you can jump off a cliff. The boss, Jin, works on the floor and as a fry cook. To everyone mentioning that she "comes out of the kitchen then goes right back," now you know why. Because it's busy, stressful, and nobody has time to deal with your crybaby "oh I didn't get a refill" whining. Also making death eyes at servers won't get them to serve you quicker. To everyone complaining about the "spicy" rating. This isn't a science. Literally a 30 year old chinese woman who knows English as her second language made the menu. Yes there are typos. Yes the "pepper" scale isn't scientific. But you know what? I think the curry is spicy as hell, and then I read reviews from people who say it doesn't even deserve 1 pepper rating? I have to wonder if they're putting that because they're honest, or just indirectly complimenting themselves...? Or perhaps the SUBJECTIVITY of the spiciness just shouldn't be brought up at all, if people have such a huge gap in spicy tolerance? I think the curry is just right, any spicier and I wouldn't eat it. Should Ginger change the recipe just because 2 or 3 people negatively reviewed it on Yelp? And as far as Bradley H's review goes, wow man the army did not help your writing skills much. Need a few more periods and a few less capital letters. I can only disbelievingly laugh at your "black licorice" comment. read more

We have been here often and even more when I would go with coworkers for the well-priced lunch specials. Food is excellent. My favorites are the spring rolls and sesame chicken! You get a lot of food for the lunch price. Dinner you get the same amount of food for quite a bit more $$. Biggest problem the last few times has been the service. Very unexpected quality for Pekin, the food was fantastic! I ordered Chicken Pad Thai, husband got Mongolian Chicken and we shared crab Rangoon. First off, I'm not a big fan of crab Rangoon, but here it was so good we ordered a second one mid meal. The mango chili sauce it was served with had all the flavors without the tongue searing spice. Most Chinese restaurants have sweet and sour sauce that is loaded with sugar, but the sauce that came with my husbands food was a little sweet, a little tart and very good. Pad Thai had tofu in it which I did not realize and I was surprised at how good it was as I had never tried it before. We will definitely return as there were a few items on the menu that we would like to try. So happy we finally gave it a try! read more

We like most people have eaten at lots and lots of Chinese restaurants and they all seem to have basically the same menu, taste, etc...but we've never had the extraordinary cuisine we have had at Ginger Asian Bistro. It's simply outstanding. We can't find a single issue to complain about. The cook staff is excellent...the wait staff is friendly and goes out of its way to meet customer expectations...the food is something to praise. Each of us has picked plates that we really enjoy and always recommend to our friends. In the short time that the restaurant has been open we've recommended it to perhaps 15 close friends and we're confident they are as enthusiastic as we are about all thing associated with Ginger Asian Bistro.
