Dropped in for dinner and glad we did. Place is a real gem. Nice decor, dark wood but still plenty of natural light. We do a lot of takeout from here as the food is always great and our kids love the spice level and flavors. But we wanted to sit down this time. Place has a loyal following - deservedly so. So this was named "Best Chinese Restaurant" by Connecticut Reader's Choice Magazine, huh? Honestly, I didn't know that until after I had placed my order on UberEats and then read the reviews. Now, before I talk about the food here, I am going to say right now that my rule of only giving 5-stars to restaurants I've visited in-person is going back into effect this week. I bypassed it for Lomito Peruvian Food last week because their food was just that great. But after a visit to another restaurant this past weekend, I knew that going forward I need to experience what I'm reviewing to give it the fairest reviews possible. Now that that's out of the way, I will say that this was another good choice picked out of UberEats. I ordered this mainly because I wanted to grab enough to help out a two-day haul at work. I went with the General Tso's chicken, Beef Potstickers, and the Pork Belly Bao. I actually thought about getting more, but it was already gonna be expensive enough as it is. Plus, Post Road is on the route of the Coastal Link, so I can always try more from here in the future. The potstickers come with soy sauce you can dip them in, and the General Tso's comes with two pieces of broccoli. I didn't take photos today because I didn't really get a chance to this time. Anywho, the baos were the first things to go. The vegetables inside with the pork belly add a nice acidity to the bite, and the bread likewise keeps it balanced. Also, I am still new to eating bao, so forgive my asking: is the bread that makes up the bao supposed to be doughy? The doughiness here didn't overpower its filling here, but in bao dishes of lesser quality I could see the bread becoming a turn-off to those new to the dish. After the bao, the potstickers were the next thing I finished. These were very flavorful. I could tell from how they were cooked that they would have been quite crisp if I had these fresh at the restaurant instead of eating these in Wilton where I work. Nevertheless, the beef was seasoned perfectly, and the soy sauce was the perfect compliment to the dish. If the restaurant proper is as good to be at as these potstickers tasted, then this review would be an easy 5. I even got to try the General Tso's. Now lately, I had been underwhelmed with General Tso's chickens in restaurants. In fact, in one place that recently closed down they botched it up so bad I had to downgrade my review of that Chinese joint from a 5 down to a 3. However, little did I know then that I had actually developed a bad H. Pylori infection that I got diagnosed with in January, and now I'm feeling much better. That left me wondering if maybe that infection had an affect on how I experienced General Tso's chickens. So how did this dish do? Honestly, I am happy to report that the General Tso's chicken here was actually good! The saucing had a nice coating to it, and I like how it was presented with the red peppers popping up in places. The rice it came with was good too, though its container was admittedly quite hard to get open. So yeah! For now, my verdict here is a 4. I do want to try more of what this place has to offer, and maybe even pop up a visit or two. read more

We ordered for delivery. We had three dishes: wonton noodle soup, mapo tofu, and salt and pepper baby squid. The wonton noodle soup was in one container. It was hot, so you can imagine how mushy the noodles turned out to be. We couldn't even pick up a noodle because it would fall apart. But that aside, the soup was bland, grey, and murky. Very very disappointing. The baby squid had what looked like prawn crackers. Everything was soggy, and stale. The squid was not fresh and had a strong foul seafood odor. The cornstarch coating was thick and had the texture of glue. And I get it, we had it delivered so it won't be as crispy. But this was coated in a bad way. It was like pancake batter. The mapo tofu was the only dish that looked decent. But there was something wrong w it. The black beans were so bitter I had to spit it out. I've had mapo tofu in the past and I don't ever recall the beans being this bitter. Three of three dishes were a fail. I feel horrible writing this, but I wish I knew before ordering from this place. I'm sure the fact that it was delivered compromised quality. But honestly, the ingredients were not fresh, and there was no care put into preparing the food. read more

Absolutely great hospitality and customer service! We had a fantabulous dinner. We were seated outside and we were a party of 30. The patio had heaters but the weather was so beautiful we didn't need them. The stringed lights add a nice ambiance to the patio as well as some well place trees. The hostess and servers were fabulous. We were all able to order and be served at the same time and quickly as well. I had the seafood fried rice. It had shrimp, scallop, fried egg, sliced fish, squid and vegetables. It was delicious. There was a lot a flavor. You can taste the fried egg and the veggies prominently right along with seafood. The rice was cooked just right and moist and the rice was not overworked over fried. The rice was loose and not clumped. I also got Cumin flavored spareribs but didn't care for those at all. Is it my imagination, or has quality gone way down? It's been at least 2 years since my last visit, and the experience fell far short of my memory. Service was actually embarrassing, from a server with a phone that keep ringing while taking orders to long delays and dishes coming out at random, giving one person their entree while everyone else waited. My food came out cold at first and had to be reheated after all that. The "mashed tofu tomato soup" is green, with the palest pink diced tomato and a few diced bean curd bits, with barely any flavor. We just ordered through Uber eats from here and my husband and I are both blown away by how inedible and foul our meals are. The pork dumplings had a horrible dirty water taste, we each had one bite and were guzzling water to get them down. I got the crispy chili chicken which was so salty I couldn't bear more than a few bites (and yet it was otherwise flavorless). I wouldn't even call it chicken as it was instead small crispy chewy bites of god knows what. My husband got the orange chicken which was all at once flavorless, too salty, and over sauced. He ate three bites and gave up. We ordered a side of broccoli and instead received bok choy which based on the foul smell coming off of it we decided to not even attempt to try. My mom did and it came with soup, and garlicky cucumbers and spring rolls and a nice entree. The shrimp were tiny. I don't know if that's just a lunch menu thing but like... really the tiniest shrimp I think I've ever seen in a restaurant. The menu overall looks incredible, SO many things to choose from. This is the only place now where I can find one of my favorite Szechuan soups, shredded pork with pickled vegetables soup. So I ordered it and honest to God it was just a bowl of salt and disappointment. It was nowhere near as good as other places I've had it. It was a very generous portion for a "small" which would have been great if the soup were edible. So I figured on my main has to be better. I got some brisket thing with eggplant and mushrooms and it looked absolutely phenomenal when it came. Just beautiful. I couldn't wait to dig in, but again, the main ingredient seemed to be SALT. I didn't have the nerve to send it back but I should have. I could not eat it. I brought it home and was able to doctor it up a bit so it was much better. OK, honestly, a lot better than what we were expecting for a random place we found off the highway in Fairfield, CT on Thanksgiving Day. Because our family celebrates the holiday on Saturday, it's been our tradition to get Asian food on the Thursday, usually in Boston. We were in NYC in the morning for the parade and after that whole hot mess of humanity, we just wanted to hit the road and thought that we would make it to Boston for dinner, but got hungry on the way and ended up here. Long story longer, we were roughly one of two tables when we sat down to eat around 5:00 pm. The decor is basically like a Wayfair showroom, so we sat down with a healthy dose of skepticism, but the food was actually pretty good. Our daughter got steamed pork dumplings that she was very happy with and the dry-fried green beans were also better than expected. The cumin lamb was wonderfully spicy and definitely the best dish of the night. Honestly, the only disappointing dish was the wonton soup. The wontons themselves were fine, but the broth was bland and oily. Service was clipped but efficient. The place started picking up with louder/ruder parties that we had no desire to be around, so we're glad that we left when we did. 3.5 stars, rounding up in the spirit of the holidays. There aren't too many Sichuan Chinese restaurants in CT but this is definitely one of the better ones. Like the other resturants in CT the price is definitely on the more expensive side compared to the portion size. Beef tripe and ox tongue in chili sauce 5/5 Good flavor and taste. Always a staple cold dish. Chef special crispy chicken 4/5 Very pricey but good flavor and taste Fried rice with duck 3/5 Duck was underwhelming but it was a solid fried rice. Dry pot with lamb 2/5 The dry pot was definitely not worth. They used beancurd sauce which is not the flavor you put in dry pot. The lamb was underwhelming in flavor. Small portion size for the cost. Not worth getting. Shredded potato & green pepper stir fry 3/5 It was not what I was expecting. I was hoping to get the cold shredded potatoes that is another staple in sichuan cold dish but it was slices of l fried potato. It wasn't bad but not really worth getting. Resturant looked very clean and nice on the inside. Definitely will return to try some other staple dishes when I have a craving and willing to splurge. read more

I was very impressed by this place! After I moved to Stamford, I had trouble finding an authentic Chinese restaurant. My friend recommended here and I was very impressed after I visited. The decor is pretty cool! It's a modern trendy Chinese restaurant unlike the usual Chinese restaurants in smaller US cities. The food was incredible. It was very authentic and the menu has tons of great options. I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants authentic Sichuan food! Decided to order takeout from Ginkgo's "Lunch Special" menu, which has many delicious sounding dishes for very reasonable prices (ranging from $9.99-12.99). I ordered the General Tso's Chicken with fried vegetable rice and the complimentary soup of the day, Shanghai spring roll, and salad. My order ended up $10.15 total for a lunch portion dish and many sides -- total win! While the price and portion size were right, the chicken was not. I picked up my order as soon as it came out from the kitchen, but was met to soggy, breaded chicken. It was as though it sat in the sauce/container for some time. The texture was very unappetizing, and the chicken was tough and chewy. Complete letdown tbh. The sauce also wasn't my favorite, very sweet and no spice to it -- despite having many chili's in the container. I ended up eating one piece of chicken before I threw the rest out. Now, the fried rice and hot and sour soup were absolutely delicious! Very good flavor in both, I'd definitely want again. So my experience was definitely a mixed review. Enough so, I'd be willing to give them another shot. I don't know if I'd want to do takeout again, but Chinese takeout is iconic. As far as Sichuan restaurants come, this restaurant was one of the better ones I've been to. The restaurant was beautiful, clean, and had great lighting. THE CHOPSTICKS WERE ALSO COOL ASF!!! Also our server was really nice and was good about checking in on us. I ordered the Sliced Beef with Mixed Vegetables in Sichuan Hot Chili Sauce and pan fried chicken dumplings. The beef was tender, a perfect amount of spicy, and the vegetables that came with it were very fresh and crunchy. My friend who tried it said he wanted to do unspeakable things to it. The dumplings were not too flavorful but the texture was really good. Overall a great place to eat especially if you've never tried sichuan, but a bit on the expensive side. read more

Spring rolls were too oily and seemed very processed. The Sichuan beef noodle soup was also underwhelming with lots of tripe (I like tripe but very unexpected it was a jump scare). Soup was good besides that I liked it. We asked for more water and did not get it. I was very thirsty and our server disappeared. Easy to miss this great place, on the very end of the Bob store parking lot. Make an effort, you'll get rewarded. First of all, the decor: you are in a true restaurant here, nothing to do with the typical $6.95 menu and fortune cookies. Then, the choice and the flavors: let's agree to enter another world here. Try the mouth watering chicken (cold appetizer that would be enough as a main dish for lunch), it is an experience of spices, senses, rarely felt anywhere else. I also got the shrimp dumplings. Not totally convinced with the dough, a tat too thick for my taste. However, the quality of the shrimp they use is such that you forget about the initial impression. This is an update from my original review. I still stands by this place as the best Sichuanese food around. While admittedly, some of their qualities fluctuate a bit compared to the mothership in Milford, it is still THE place for my cravings. I've been reading other low reviews and trying understand why. There seems to be two common themes. First, most people complain about the service...and quite frankly, I agree but who cares. It's a Chinese restaurant, it's part of the experience. They get busy, may take a bit longer, but seriously it's a small price to pay for authentic Sichuanese food. Stop being so snobby! Second are the sporadic rants about the food. I think they are ordering the wrong things. This is not your American Chinese takeout, it's Sichuanese and that's what they do well. Don't order from the lunch specials, step out of your comfort zone and order the chengdu dumplings. Other local restaurants have tried to imitate, these are better than those you get in NY and on par with Chengdu. (Yes, I've had and my grandparents lived next to the original stall in Chengdu). So Caveat Emptor for what you order. They probably don't do General tsao's as well as your favorite take out across town (honesty I never order that...ever). But general tsao is from Hunan and has never seen a piece of broccoli in his life...and his chicken was created in NYC. To really appreciate this gem of a restaurant, order the authentic Sichuanese dishes. And trust me on the Chengdu dumplings. Just to clinch how much I enjoy and love this place, I had my wedding rehearsal dinner here 2 years ago. They created a banquet menu and our friends had a feast. And no one missed General Tsao. read more

Very authentic addition in Fairfield. Nice to see items you would normally have to go to NYC to get like real Peking Duck and Chinese broccoli (not American broccoli) fillet or sole was perfectly cooked so was the chicken and garlic sauce. Will definitely come back to try a big clay pot. read more

Most important thing is that the lo mein here is among the best I've had in Fairfield county. However, most of the other dishes are not good at all. That said, the dumplings/wontons are very good. The fried rice is not flavorful at all but is enjoyable. The service here is nearly nonexistent and you should only get takeout. Their boba tea is awful. Aside from certain dishes, find another chinese restaurant. Take out from here is a decent option but still there are better. As for a sit down restaurant, this place is seriously insulting. read more
