We went to Panda House on Christmas Day. We were seated by a young child, maybe 10 years old, who was adorable, but definitely not ready to be a hostess. The food itself was very good, however, our main courses weren't brought out at the same time, so one of us had to wait for our meal while the other had finished half of theirs. Strange experience, admittedly I was there when they were close to closing Well decorated , Place has been around since the 80's. Multiple owners im sure Ordered by phone for pickup, staff was friendly and polite to me. However about 5 employees were standing in dining area (nobody else in restaurant) arguing about something.. its was slightly heated. I don't speak the language, but lots of tone, finger pointing and talkng over each other... My food came out in a few mins. I got an egg roll and beef on a stick. A friend and I went to Panda House Chinese restaurant during Stratford's restaurant week. I lived here for a long time, and I still haven't come here before this. I've always noticed the beautiful fountains that they have outside, so I was pretty excited. When you walk in, you'll notice, it's a rather spacious restaurant. We were sat right away. The server was extremely attentive, even with us being in the sunroom area and a lot of the tables inside being filled. We ordered off the restaurant menu week, which included a glass of wine, a soup, a roll of some sort, an entrée, and a dessert that they selected. Everything that we ate tasted fresh. The vegetable roll was so fresh that it even turned my friend into a steamed mouth dragon for a short amount of time . We powered through though. I love the decorations that they put on the dessert plate (we did not get to pick the dessert). Being from Stratford, it felt like a homage to the new Disney movie chain can dunk, which was filmed at Bunnell! Overall, it was a really nice time. read more

20+ years of coming here my food is always great. My service is always great. We love to go to that restaurant and just hang out with the previous owner. The new owners have Donna a great job keeping Jacks recipes and flavors alive. It was a hard break up when Jack decided to retire from his restaurant and sold it, but he did make a great choice with the new owners and they remember their customers which to me is the most important thing. read more

Our takeout duck was dried out, brown and tasted worse than my leftover kitchen chicken that I wanted to avoid. The pork fried rice lacked freshness, and the pork pieces in the egg foo young tasted very strange (will I get sick?) The soggy sesame chicken (which didn't come with soup) accompanied by brownish, limp broccoli swimming in sauce will end their short, sad life eventually pushed to the back of the fridge, festering and forgotten. Every dish was a disappointment. The redeeming feature were those wide fried crispy noodles, which for the first time since never from any Chinese take out place arrived with little cups of Chinese hot mustard and duck sauce. For now, greasy noodles and the Depp/Heard trial make for a 'how low I can fall" dining experience. read more

My party came in at 9 PM for a late dinner, ready to order takeout because this places closes at 9:30 on Sunday nights. However, the owner happily took us in and sat us down, saying that he'd stay with us all night and that it would stress him out if we rushed. As for the food, I got the chicken + shrimp combo in the chef specialties. It was seasoned well and good in general. Do keep in mind, however, that the spicy dishes here are not spicy at all. However, they still taste good. In addition, the "new revolution" food section isn't bland at all and I highly recommend it, as one of my party members ended up getting the chicken + broccoli combo which was actually good. The only disappointing thing aside from the lack of actual spicy food was that all of the food seemed to be seasoned with the same sauce. It's a great sauce, but maybe something different? In addition, the pricing was higher than one would expect. My group of four paid almost $100 and we didn't order drinks. The food here was honestly more of a 4/5 and the pricing was a 3, but the service was a 6. read more

Our family chose Panda House for a mid-week family dinner to celebrate a birthday. Panda House accommodated our large group in a pleasant front room that fit us all perfectly. This American style Chinese restaurant has been a Stratford-Putney staple for over 35 years. Its interior has kept its '80's vibe too. The large & very clean fish tank filled with colorful carp ( koi ) in the restaurant's foyer entertains visitors young & old alike. To start we ordered scallion pancakes & egg rolls. The pancakes received multiple thumbs up & while the egg rolls were very large, their stuffing of finely julienned cabbage predominated the flavor profile. One of the big stars delivered to the table were the big bowls of freshly fried Chinese noodles accompanied by the requisite plum sauce & spicy mustard. Refills were granted on request. Our 2 sides of vegetable & bbq pork fried rice were very good, with the pork fried rice having an abundance of diced Char Siu - a royal treat. So far so good. Platters of Moo goo gui pan an American style stir fry of boneless chicken & vegetables dish was reported to be good. It's not on the menu but you can ask for it. My dish of shrimp, mushrooms & Chinese broccoli -also not on the menu, was served in a brown garlic sauce; it had the right amount of spice as did the shrimp Szechuan style swimming in a ketchuppy onion sauce. This tingly slightly sweet take on this Szechuan dish is definitely not for purists but this style is common in American Chinese restaurants these days. The dish got xtra points because the jumbo shrimp were very flavorful & properly cooked. While our table service got off to a slow start, delivery of food picked up quickly once water & drinks were served. For the number of orders, The kitchen & the young server handling our large group kept up the pace. As a finale we were surprised with individual batter fried Oreos & a rendition of happy birthday in Chinese. We had a blast. read more

Really solid Chinese takeout! Arguably a little more expensive than other spots but you can tell they do use higher quality ingredients, which is worth it in my book. I got the sesame chicken lunch special which came with a choice of rice and soup. You can choose from white, brown or pork fried rice and egg drop, miso, wonton and hot and sour soup. This restaurant continues to turn out delicious Chinese food. Everything they make is really fantastic. The chicken and broccoli is the best in the area, as is their pork fried rice. The sesame chicken is also very good. The egg roll is just okay so we usually pass on those. It's a great place to sit down and have a meal with your family opposed to take out. Panda House is simply the best Chinese food restaurant outside of NYC. A friend brought us here 6 weeks ago and we have been back at least 5 times since. Jack, the owner, is the most personable, customer oriented owner I have met in a long time. The food is AMAZING. The fried noodles are addictive because they are so fresh. Best egg rolls I have had in years!! We have sampled many main dishes and rice or noodle dishes and never been disappointed. I usually stop and get 2 large soups when I'm in town. Easiest $10 they make. This time, the egg drop was so watery it was very disappointing. I'm on the fence whether to give it another try after this. The chef should have known the consistency was off, and then once again the person ladeling the soup in the take out container. The best Chinese restaurant that we've tried in the greater Fairfield area. The place is family owned and run and they go above and beyond with customer service. The wonton soup broth had taste and the dumplings were seasoned well. They were also sturdy and didn't fall apart in the broth. The crab rangoon were perfect with a crispy, yet light outside, and a creamy middle filled with a crab mixture that wasn't as sweet as most on the East Coast. Just the way they should be made! The fried dumplings were also delicious- the meat was seasoned well and the dumpling noodle was cooked perfectly. The Singapore Curry noodles had a delightful blend of curry with a combination of meats and veggies in angel hair pasta. Finally, the Chicken with Eggplant was a fantastic dish. The garlic sauce was tangy, the chicken pieces were tender, and the eggplant was sweet. There are free refills on the Jasmine tea, which was a nice, strong blend. For dessert, we were given fortune cookies and pineapple chunks. The restaurant has ample parking and the bathroom was very clean. This is an excellent restaurant and we will be back. read more

The owners and wait staff made it very apparent who they "liked" and we were put on the pay no mind list for 2 hours. We couldn't even get a "your welcome" for our thank yous while the owner was chasing other people out of the restaurant to say goodbye. We had a table of 6 and spent a lot of money yet were treated as if our money wasn't worth as much. Couldn't get anyone to come to our table for 20 minutes at a time. Very disappointing. The best Chinese food I've found in CT. And, really, one of only 2 Chinese restaurants in CT i've found that is consistently good (in this case, excellent), and never have a problem with the food. That really is the main review. But, I'll add it's a full service restaurant. It has plenty of tables and a bar. The bar area is small, and not much to sit in, but it allows for full bar service at the tables. There are plenty of tables. It's a spacious place. The area it's in is nice. The ambiance, so to speak, isn't great but it's ok. There's an area with glass walls (optional seating area) which is nice to look out in daytime but the noise really carries there, and is cold in winter. There's also the standard seating area, which is large enough itself. It has both tables with chairs, and booths. The atmosphere could be better but is ok. There's no problem in the main seating areas, and the food is excellent! read more

My husband has been to Panda House in the past for business lunches, so we decided to give it a try after leaving a Chinese restaurant down the road before our dinner arrived (see my other review on Hong Kong Cafe). The crunchy noodles at Panda House are amazing! The house made duck sauce was flavorful and not loaded with sugar. We began with wonton soup and I tossed in some of those delightful crunchy noodles. Because I had several in my soup, and my husband wanted more to eat with the duck sauce we asked our waitress for more crunchy noodles... and her response is why I decided to give Panda House less than 5 stars. Judging be her expression she was ANNOYED and told us that our dinner would soon be out. HINT: NEVER tell customers they cannot have food, or judge how much food we should get! It's not up to the wait staff to decide what or how much we will eat. We ordered 2 egg rolls. My husband's was fine, and really delicious. I had to send my egg roll back because it was SOAKED in oil. The oil coated my hands, obscured the flavor and made a large puddle on my plate. In every good restaurant the waitress returns to the table 90 seconds after food is served to see if everything is ok, but our waitress was nowhere to be found. We waited quite a while to return the eggroll to the kitchen (by then it was stone cold) but eventually we managed to flag her down and she took it away and brought another and it was delicious. We both ordered the Panda House Paradise: Tender sliced beef, jumbo shrimp and chicken sautéed with vegetables & fried wontons served on a sizzling skillet. There were snap peas, water chestnuts, mushrooms, red pepper and tiny corn in the dish and it was absolutely delicious! The meat and shrimp were very tender... you could cut it with a spoon. The sauce was tasty and the rice (we ordered brown and white) was fluffy and hot. There was enough food that we both had to take half our entrees home. Before we left, we asked our waitress to add a take-out order of wonton soup and crunchy noodles to our bill. Instead of being pleased that we were spending more money, (and ostensibly her tip?), she appeared annoyed AGAIN! My goodness, what was this waitress' problem? BE HAPPY when customers order MORE food! Selling food is the whole reason you are there! The woman behind the front desk (owner's wife?) was very pleasant to us, and for that reason and the fact that we loved the food, we will return for take-out, but I cannot see us eating there again if that waitress is on duty. We left a 10% tip which is something we don't like to do but she was rude in judging what we should eat and how much, she was hard to find at several points during our meal and here's the coup de grace... The minute my husband was done signing the check and writing in the tip on the receipt, the waitress raced to our table, grabbed the check, and stood there, receipt in hard, STARING AT THE TIP to see how much we left her! What on earth!?!?!? How RUDE! She cared more about her tip than us! Bottom line, the food was great, the owners seemed nice but that waitress must go before we will ever dine in again. No migraine tonight at this Chinese restaurant!!! On the road traveling through CT on route to Vermont and New Hampshire we started having our tummies growling for food- not just road trip snacks... so I pulled up my handy yelp app and came across this gem and knowing I usually get headaches at Chinese restaurants (very allergic to MSG) was a bit hesitant at first but decided to give it a go and SOOO very glad we went!! Service was warm and friendly and it's a been a nice family run establishment for decades as I read. Their menu is vast and had sections for *special diets: nothing at all added, just steamed!! I inquired on that and was advised might not have a lot of taste but I could have brown sauce on the side... I ordered that with brown rice and my hubby had shrimp and squid in brown sauce. My dish was STELLAR!! It was presented in a bamboo basket with a cover on it and the flavors were perfect!! The steamed shrimp were flavorful and plump- almost like it has a buttery fluffiness but nothing was added!! It truly didn't need any sauce!!
