We should have known it wasn't going to be a good experience when we were sat at a super wobbly table. The table next to us even said they had to fix theirs themselves, and so did we. !! Dining with a gluten allergy here was not safe!! I told the server about my allergy and requested a Gluten free bun + gluten free sauce. Food came out on a regular gluten bun. I sent it back. They just moved the same food to a gluten free bun. The food was cold because it was clearly reused, and the fries were cold too. I took one bite and realized it. I left hungry and had my EpiPen on standby as soon as we left. The server was very nice and this was not her fault, but please educate your staff and take extra precautions with allergies. A little bias because I know how much work goes into their food. The salad dressing and buffalo sauce is made in house. They should really bottle and sell it. All the BBQ is slow cooked out back. We got volcano fries to start. Fries with buffalo and blue cheese on them. They were delicious. I got the Twisted Fish Sandwich: Fried haddock with melted cheese, thousand island, pickles, slaw and bacon. It was delicious. Fish was perfectly fried and breaded. Once our non alcoholic drink order was taken it took 15+ minutes for our food order to be taken by another waitress. The food was extremely mediocre. We ordered the pasta, Ruben, and pretzel. None of it was actually good or tasted great. It was my first time there, and I will NOT go back. While being ignored the bartender did look at us multiple times and would Immediately look away when they saw us looking. The prime rib was well done. The waiter had put medium on the ticket & we were expecting med. rare. I was introduced to Gin's by my local college buddy. He told me it's a staple in the area, so I had to give it a try. My 3 sons and wife ate here and enjoyed our meal. The pizza was unique like the other review mentioned, but the wings were not as good as I had hoped. The beer was ice cold, a major plus and the services was very good. Gin's has been in business roughly since the beginning of time and is one of my favorite spots to visit when in NEPA. This restaurant makes the best pizza ever. But it is controversial - you love it or hate it. In any case, it is a unique culinary experience compared to the local favorites in Old Forge. And the wings are not too shabby either. So delicious pizza and wings. Cheap draft beers. Ample seating. Jukebox. Shuffleboard. Support of high school sports teams. What else could you want in your local bar? Did I mention that Gin's has shuffleboard? Love this place. read more

The meat wouldnt pull from the bone and when you bite into an under cooked wing it sounds like your biting into an apple. Yuck! The blue cheese was in a paper ramekin and had a yellow film on top from sitting uncovered in the refrigerator for many days I'm sure. The 1/2 lb burger was okay. Didn't realize it came with ketchup. Ketchup is no good in my book! The service was not so hot. Every time the waitress would come to our table she would walk and act like she was so overwhelmed. Gin's is a hit or miss type of place. Sometimes it's great, sometimes it's bad. Today my girlfriend and I went there for lunch. I ordered the French Onion soup, which was the soup of the day, and I was told that it wouldn't be ready for another 15 minutes. 25 minutes later I was told that the soup still wasn't ready, so I told the waitress to forget about it. I got a burger and ordered it medium. It came out well done, so much so that it was crispy. Our waitress was not friendly at all, and she ignored us most of the time. Tables that had arrived after us received their checks before we did. We were there for over an hour... for lunch. It was a good thing we weren't in a hurry to get somewhere. Our bill came to 23.25 without the tip, and the quality of the food did not match the price. I've had really great service and food and Gin's, it just depends on who is working at the time. This is our go to restaurant when we're hungry at home and don't want to cook. The buffalo chicken dip pleased my taste buds and ends up being my dinner some nights. The pierogies and pizza are above average as well. My husband typically gets the 1/2lb bacon burger with bbq sauce. When dining in there is a country bar/family restaurant ambiance. Lots of tables. Great dive-type of a place with a good variety on the menu. Caught some great live music here last night - fiddler was an excellent musician. P&E shrimp and steamed clams here were very good, and neither were overcooked, as seems to happen in a lot of places. Pizza is by the tray, NEPA style, not a round pie. Not a huge fan of the style, but theirs is definitely respectable. For the live music, menu selection and very casual atmosphere, I loved this place. read more

Twenty Years of Gin's experience and the quality still goes in before the dish comes out. In the less than 2% of cases where there was an issue I had a replacement dish delivered in under ten minutes. I've had dates here, I've dined alone here, and I've had parties of twelve here and there was always a willingness to accommodate. Yes the lovely waitress staff has difficult days, but I've never witnessed rudeness. The menu is large and varied and the kitchen does intro new items on a regular basis. There's very regular local entertainment with no cover and over the years I have witnessed outstanding talent; including the owner strumming and singing! Went here with family for dinner on a weekend. I am mostly vegetarian except for occasionally fish. Not one vegetarian course on the menu, with the exception of pizza and one or two pastas. I ended up ordered the "homemade crab cakes" with peas and carrots and baked potato. The crab cakes were not real crab, but rather imitation crab meat, with little to no seasoning. The imitation crab was overly sweet, and one piece inside it was as large as a half dollar. The carrots were "baby carrots" soaked with water that oozed out when pressed on, and had the texture of limp rubber. Peas were canned, soaked with water. Baked potato was mushy with no seasoning. I did get homemade cocktail sauce, which was the best tasting and most edible part of the meal. One of the worst meals I've had. read more

Last night after voting my husband and I went to Gin's for a burger, fries and a beer. We were only there once before and that was 6 years ago. The place has changed dramatically. The waitress suggested we order the porterhouse burger because the one we originally wanted for $3 was very small so we agreed. Meanwhile, the beer arrived warm and since they gave us no coasters our glasses sat in a pool of water. I had to split one of our napkins to mop it up. The fries were so salty that even I complained and I love my salt. But they probably do it on purpose so you'll drink more beer. And now for the real shocker - THE BILL - it was a whooping $37. We almost didn't have enough to pay. Granted the burgers were delicious but $12 bucks each? Come on!!!! The only highlight of the evening was a poster of the Beatles on the wall. Absolutely terrible. In the past we've always had a pleasant and enjoyable experience. After today we will never be coming back. If you ask for extra tartar because their tiny portion isn't enough for your fish be prepared to be charged $1 for if and also not be made aware of such a charge. Waited 15 minutes for our salads to be brought out. Then waited another 20 min after finishing our salads for our food. Beware of the chicken Marsala. What use to be 3-4 chicken breasts is now just 1 but the price is still the same. At least it still tastes the same I guess. My daughters spaghetti was taken away from her before she even was finished with it. It was just taken and other dirty food dishes piled on top of it before we even had a chance to say she wasn't finished with it. She still had over 1/2 of it that she didn't eat. She cried when she realized it had been removed from the table. She's only 4. Throughout our entire dinner drink refills were never offered nor given. My husband asked to speak to a manager. She seemed unwilling to listen to me when I voiced my concerns and acted as though we were lying. Apparently it's our responsibility to ask for drink refills. This is a first in my experience. To sum up that experience I felt as though they weren't willing to take any responsibility for their poor service. If substantially smaller portions at regular prices, slow/poor table service, rude management is your thing then by all means check them out. No complaints about the quality of the food. We have gone to gins many times and the food is usually pretty good and it's usually a packed house on the weekends. But last nite was different. With only 5 tables in the whole restaurant and 4 waitresses we thought we would have great service. We were wrong. We sat for 20 min before the 16 yr old dishwasher boy came out and took out drink orders. Then it was another 20 min until we got our drinks and menus from a waitress. We had to stop her from leaving before we asked for an appitizer. Then after 30 min and empty glasses I waved down a different waitress that was talking with the others and we ordered. Our app came out and then our original waitress brought bread later. And five min after that came our food. I ordered calamari with a lightly spicy sauce and ended up getting a bowl of diced habanaro peppers with a few calamari. It was so hot I couldn't eat it and I like suicide wings so that tells you something. Just a terrible enough experience to write this review.
