I am surprised I haven't written a review for Giraffe before. Steve and I have been here several times... sometimes I think it's almost every time we go to Vashon Island so how it squeaked by with out me giving it a review is beyond me. But I will fix it now. We come here mainly for their spices, soaps and candles. On my last trip there I got their soap which was Spruce & Cinnamon. I finally broke it out and love it! The fragrance of the soap matches up with the description quite well and is the soap itself is a good quality. But that shouldn't be a surprise... this botique is good quality all the way around! There is clothing here as well but it's mainly for the ladies so we don't explore much there but we have bought a number of other things on our visits here to Vashon! read more

What a gem store I found when in Vashon! All the good and cute stuffs are here. Definitely a true meaning of a happy store. They featured lots of interesting things from Guatemalan worry dolls, kitchen essentials, antiques, warm clothes & etc. The owner who's a former seamstress ended up the Giraffe store where you will surely appreciate the fabric contour on each clothes displayed. Most of them are from Pakistan made and the quality of fabric was personally handpicked by the owner as she journeyed throughout. She's the smartest and the friendliest! This store offered a variety of displayed products which will capture your personality. Clean store and upon entering they still provide hand sanitizer for everyone to use. Giraffe has an amazing selection of ethically sourced decorations and gift. Besides having an awesome selection of crafts, the service here was top tier! We ended up getting some decorative baskets, and the team was able to tell us where each of them was made. So many positive things happening here! read more

Cute little eclectic shop located in the heart of Uptown on Vashon. She has products from all over the world and can tell you about them. The owner is very hospitable and sweet. She offered us some tumeric ginger tea which was delicious! We enjoyed perusing the shop and found some items to purchase. I fell in love with a handmade coffee mug from an artist in Vermont. My hubby picked up some whiskey aged shoyu. He has been experimenting with varying flavors in his cooking so this is perfect. I also picked up some delicious dark chocolate infused with orange and ginger. Yum! I had to really get some self-restraint in this shop. I highly recommend coming by here if you're in the area. read more

Amazing, beautiful, and immaculate store. I love the concept of this store; free trade and sustainable. I found so many gorgeous items of clothing (and jewelry) that actually fit me well, which is hard when you're plus size. I love knowing that I have items from all over the world: Pakistan, Turkey, Zimbabwe, Kenya, and Colombia... instead of just China. The owner and staff were extremely helpful picking out clothes for me, as well as giving honest opinions about what worked and what did not. Each item is on the pricey end, so it's comforting to know that they care about how you look and feel as opposed to just making a quick sale. Once I recover from the enormous amount of money I dropped in here (haha), I will definitely be back. Vashon is so lucky to have such a wonderful boutique! read more

A true gem on Vashon! This shop was recommended to us by an artist friend who lives on the island. We were in town for an event and popped into Giraffe about half an hour before it closed. Absolutely stunning collection of beautifully crafted goods from around the world. The owner/buyer may have read my mind as she was stocking this shop. Textiles, jewelry, decor, gift...All Misha-approved! I wish we had more time to peruse. I left with a gorgeous pair of mustard-colored Jafa booties and am still thinking about the earrings I didn't buy. Number one on my visit list the next time I'm on the island. read more

I was in Vashon with my friend and we were walking along the street and admired the giant giraffe sculpture this store has next to it in the parking lot and snapped some photos. Then we were going to walk inside, and the door was locked. I checked the store hours, and it was 15 minutes to close. I looked in the window and the shop girl was at the register and looked back at me. I waved, she grimaced. Meh. read more

This is one of those places that I have trouble distinguishing--is it a gift shop? Housewares? I'm sure there's an exact right way to describe it, but it's the kind of place I visit rarely enough that I'm not sure where to place it. They have stuff for the kitchen, dining room, bathroom, some clothes, and some decorations. My mom has loved this store since it was in Tacoma, and since yesterday was her birthday, we stopped in to shop before her birthday dinner. The staff are stylish homeowner types; the type of people who enjoy the good life without being pretentious about it. What they stock is a lot of sustainably-sourced stuff; it's both environmentally and socially conscious from what I can see. I ended up not getting anything, but our family clan came away with wrapping paper, hand lotion, Christmas ornaments, caramels, and a hand-woven basket. The lady was super funny and nice about opening the store again for a few minutes for us even though she had already closed for the day. Made my mom happy and added a nice touch to her birthday celebration. There are a few other stores through this area; I'd have to say that Giraffe is not a place to find crazy bargains, but there's another gift shop a few doors down where the prices are even higher. The stuff at both stores is nice, and it's worth it, but it's pretty likely that I wouldn't find things here unless it was for a special occasion. read more

A little frustrated by the customer service here. We just came in recently and I was delighted by all of the items sourced from all over the world! We had purchased a few small items. Last minute, my husband wanted to purchase a caramel and we asked the girl who helped us if we could rerun the transaction. Apparently it was not in time, so we would have had to run a separate transaction. The owner (I believe) impatiently said, "Well you just have your card? You might as well just have it - it'll cost us just as much to run the transaction". She was not very pleasant. We felt bad so we came back in later with cash. The gentleman who took the cash barely without a word said, "ok" and then proceeded his conversation. I would assume these local places rely on strong customer service to stay afloat. The two times we went into this store we were taken aback by the lack of friendliness. What a shame because my husband and I are also world travelers who love the overall thoughtfulness and concept behind this store. Hopefully they can improve upon their service moving forward. read more

When I first walked into Giraffe, I immediately felt like this store "gets it". The owner, Priscilla greeted me, offered me coffee and briefly educated me on the store's mission statement and the meaning of "fair trade". The term "fair trade" always reminded me of a knick-knackey-type shop but these beautiful products you could tell were carefully curated and hand selected with intention. I so appreciate small business owners taking those extra steps to bring these little towns access to truly incredible products with a great cause. Love what you guys are doing! read more

We bought a handbag, artisan quality greeting cards and delicious salted caramel. Worth the trek to Vashon Island to check out this great shop!! I love the unique jewelry, table linens, very cool wall hangings, pillows and floors mats...just a few things I have in my own home now! My kids love all the very cool toys that are much more interesting than target or toys r us. Plus every item has a story- where it was made, who made it and what material was used or recycled. I feel great spending my money on not only things that I will love for a long time but the idea that I am helping villages, farmers, or families. Something for everyone at Giraffe! read more

I love this store! It is a breath of fresh Air on Vashon! This is my favorite place to purchase gifts for friends, family AND where you can treat yourself to beautiful handcrafted items. The store is NOT filled with fair trade clunky junk, all items have a high level of sophistication and style. The owner travels the world and meets the artisans she purchases from, bringing stories and relationships to the items she sells! A rare experience in today's world.
