And I visit yearly, on my birthday, and this is my NEW FAVORITE STORE on the island! It is amazing! I loved the contemporary home accents and illuminated wall-mounted glass art "sheets". I especially loved the organic wall-mounted terrariums which are the coolest living sculptural pieces I've ever seen! There were some interesting (in a good way!) wooden art "mobiles" suspended from the ceiling, and some nice area rugs as well. But what caught my eye the most was the most GORGEOUS jewelry, hand-made, by a local artist, for a line called "Ginger". I tried on some amazing bracelets that I now regret not getting. Very unique, made from gem-stone beads and polished gems and vintage crystals. The necklaces were also knock-out pieces. Just combinations of gems (polished and not) and crystals, with unique clasps, that I've never seen before. They also had some fabulous totes (I loved the one with Michelle Obama!), and soaps and small house items. The guy at the counter was very nice and knowlegeable about the products. I liked how folks with their dogs were welcome in the store. Even large dogs! What a wonderful store!

Staff was super friendly. I ended up getting him a "ruby fuchsite". I'm not familiar with that particular rock, but the cashier told me to make sure I have my dad use a blue light on it. My five-year-old Leo B. loves a good gem, and has already asked us to buy him a ruby multiple times (we've consistently, emphatically declined, but I hope he doesn't think he'll be getting one for Christmas). We both enjoyed browsing this store. There were a lot of loose stones and crystals throughout the shop, and these were fun to look at, especially with a child who was fully agog that a gem could be shaped like a heart or a star. I remember being fascinated by colorful stones at his age, and watching him in Hidden Gem took me back to that feeling of innocent wonder. Still, I have no problem saying no to my son, and rejected his requests for a $32 paperweight and other various items too expensive for a five-year-old. Lucky for him, we weren't alone in the store. My mother was there with us, and when Leo requested a $4 green goldstone, I said only a sucker would buy a $4 gem for a small child, then let Halmoni take over. She declared herself a willing sucker and bought him the sparkly green stone, which a kindly sales clerk wrapped for him in paper. I told Leo he was in charge of keeping track of his new gem, and two weeks later, I'm not totally confident he knows where it is. He does love it, though, and I admit it is more attractive than the rocks he just made us bring home from the beach. All in all, I'm glad he got this little gift from Hidden Gem. $4 of Halmoni's money bought him a good deal of happiness.

Towards the front, there were seasonal holiday items like Halloween reed fillers for vases. Charmingly, above the items for sale, they have beautiful displays of such floral decor. The shop window looked nice, so I stopped in - and ended up buying two very cute shirts on their last day of 20% off for "friends and family." If I had more time, I could have probably found a lot more! I ended up wearing one of the shirts home on the plane. The clothes are stylish and definitely classic - pretty, upscale versions of the preppy items you probably already own (button downs, cashmere sweaters, chinos, etc). I bought a white button down shirt from a new-to-me brand and it has the most beautiful texture - it's classic, but "elevated" and I know I'll wear it frequently. The service was friendly, but not hovering - which is exactly how I like to shop.

It's located in a lovely house, and you step through various rooms to look at items. I love getting a sense of local history by going to antiques shops and seeing what they carry. Sometimes the emphasis of a particular time frame or particular travel souvenirs tells me about who used to live in the area and what they were interested in. Pastiche was really fun to begin to go through. Mostly, there were a lot of cookware and servingware items: incredible sets and individual tea cups and saucers, old cast iron cookware, silver spoons. There were large furniture pieces such as old armoires, cabinets, and sitting sets. But then there was a whole room dedicated to Asian pottery, such as vases, Japanese dishes, etc. There was even a set of Victorian lamps, such as the one you'd see in Walt Disney's Apartment above Disneyland, that just fascinated me. I had never seen those in any antique store I've visited. And then I asked about the price of something that was unmarked. Ultimately, while very competitively priced, I decided against getting the item. The shopkeeper made a very rude comment to one of the workers that I wouldn't be purchasing anything because I put back this cheaply-priced item. It turned me off so much, I promptly left the store. I probably would have bought something from here. I may have needed to come back later in the day (closer to ferry departures to Seattle) to do so. (Consider this, Mr. Shopkeeper!) A couple of other notes: - Did not see antique cameras here, so if they are here, they'd be a small set - All other shopkeepers and attendants in Winslow were so nice and do not bat an eye at curious and unpaying tourists who want to wander in and look. I was so glad to have been wrong. They had a great selection at fair prices, and the person working there was friendly and helpful. Keep in mind that this wasn't the same person other reviewers have made clear is extremely rude, so try to go in on the day that person isn't working. My wife never says "they have great stuff in here." She said that about this place. We will definitely return, but maybe only when the friendly person is working.
