This is a great little thrift store located across from Lafayette Park. There is a large variety of clothing, including men's clothing. There are lots of toys for kids of all ages. I went there looking for a choker necklace. However, I found a beautiful bracelet and lightweight animal print shawl. They have lots of helpful volunteers. This is one of my favorite thrift stores in the area - small/medium size, nice assortment of household goods, name-brand and designer clothing, books, and friendly staff (some of whom have been there for 20+ years since the shop opened)! The shop is somewhat tucked away off the main street; parking has never been an issue. Prices are reasonable; I've always come away with a 'find' that makes me smile. Recently I found a brand-new 500 piece puzzle for a senior, down throw pillows, and a brand-new turkey baster for the holidays! I checked out a pair of nearly-new Joan & David black suede pumps ($9), and a black little wool Nipon dress ($12) - both gorgeous, in great condition, and in season. Bottom line - clean, nice merchandise, sweet staff, great support towards community service! read more

This little thrift store had the sweetest staff when I stopped by. There was 2 ladies at the register, and everyone was chatting. Not to mention, they have some great pricing. I only got a few things because I was on a time crunch, but I will be back! read more

I really like this thrift store. It depends on the day whether I'm a big fan or just a fan of this store. There are lots of rich old ladies in this area so they have some really awesome stuff for cheap. Lots of good quality silver platters and other kitchen stuff, lots of greeeat jewelry, and a good selection of clothes. My most favorite thrifting experience happened at this store: $5 Prada sling back heels in black. Hardly any wear on them. They're amazing and a proud part of my shoe collection. I really enjoy going into this thrift store. The ladies that work there are super nice. I went with my newborn baby who started crying while I was shopping and as a new mom, I became very self conscious, rushed with my few things to check out, but they made as if it was no big deal at all. They cooed at him and one of them even taught me a few tricks on how to get him to stop crying! Their clothes are also very fashionable and decently priced. Both my mom and I (a generation apart) like their selection of clothes! Their children's books are fantastically priced, especially when they have a sale! I haven't had time to look around much more than this, but will go again and hopefully my baby will let me browse more of the store! They had special extended hours during the Lafayette Farmer's Market last week. Don't know if that was a one-time deal or they often have extended hours when there are events on the lawn there. This quaint little thrift housed in the historic Wayside Inn built in 1894 in downtown Lafayette is still making history. There's always some colorful kitsch to be had, like the set of six lobster bibs that'd be perfect for your next lobster bake on the Delta. This thrift store is rarely open. It also throws away stuff that is donated. I don't know if the people there are volunteers or working but they set a very strange mood in there- I don't think there's music and just older women walking around. It's mainly for housewives. Prices are steep. I prefer Nifty Thrift right down the street. read more

I had been here before (a long time ago) and finally got to visit again the other day. They used to have wonderful costume rentals but are not doing that anymore. So that's the only sad thing that changed. I rented this awesome white and pink Las Vegas showgirl costume with a matching gigantic headdress for Halloween and that was a hoot. Got so many compliments! Anyways, back to the other day's shopping experience...it was wonderful. All the staff/volunteers were friendly and approachable. Love the fact that they benefit a cause (Assistance League of Diablo Valley). The store was clean and well-organized. I did find some great deals, too! A great pair of dark fuchsia capri pants ($4) from J. Crew and a beautiful floral print dress ($13), which looked new from Banana Republic. Can't beat those prices!!! I definitely will be coming back for more great finds! read more

Let me just say, this place has everything I look for while thrifting.. First things first, it's very clean! And no thrift store smell (at least not that I could tell of, but then again I think my nose is immune from spending so many hours at thrift town, lol). Decent selections in each department, lots of clothes but only those in good condition and generally fashionable. Very small dressing rooms though. Holiday decor is the current feature and everything is very tastefully displayed. I genuinely enjoyed myself while browsing at Wayside Inn Thrift Shop and loved seeing all the great stuff they had. They have sales on certain things each week, today I saw signs for 1/2 off black shoes and picture frames. I was able to find some great steals today! A shirt in excellent condition I can wear for work for $10, 2 wall arts in frames (also excellent condition) for $25, 2 books for $1 each, and a cute purse for $5. Hmmmm. My last visit there was marked by an aggressively cheerful request to hold my merchandise for me while I shopped. Two skeins of wool. It couldn't have been clearer that I was viewed as a prospective shoplifter. I mentioned this, & they did a pretty good recovery, but still, wildly annoying. read more

I absolutely love this place. With the degradation in overall quality and customer experience of places like Goodwill and The Salvation Army (the Goodwill in my neighborhood instituted a policy of not allowing you to test out electronic equipment as well as not putting out quality donated goods and instead putting it on their auction site, as well as significantly raising prices, even on books which would be similar to raising prices on CD's or 8 track cassettes), its heartening to know that there are still thrift stores out there with HEART that seem to care about expressing appreciation and gratitude to you as a customer, and caring about the customer experience (realizing that in order to exist you need happy customers!), as well as have a great local cause you are supporting by shopping and donating. read more

formerly, I worked across the street from this thrift store. I was great for finding little antiques and nick knacks.

It is difficult to park here with the one way street in front, but once I get here, I NEVER leave without finding fabulous stuff for really good prices. 10 vintage hats from the 50's for $1 each in the dress up box. His and hers embroidered and tatted hand towels never used, an old satin covered sewing box chock full of vintage sewing notions for $10.. and on and on... The little ladies of Lafayette really donate the good stuff here. Lots of vintage finds and better quality clothing. They also have a costume shop at halloween time. read more

I wasn't too impressed by this store. It's small and has a very limited amount of stuff. The clothing was pretty bland (think mall ware from the last 15 years). The housewares were ok and the kids section...well, it's a kids section in a thrift store (i.e. full of dirty stuff animals and beanie babies). My trip lasted all of 10 minutes before I headed down to the way better Nifty Thrift just down the street. read more

If I am not mistaken, Lafayette has two thrift stores and they are both awesome and in walking distance from one another. Wayside is a small-medium size thrift store with good prices. I have been here a handful of times and I have walked out with barely-worn designer shoes, china plates, and pictures. Found an adorable kitsch-y cow needle point step stool the other day, along with a beautiful china plate to add to my collection. The volunteers are very nice. If you want to park really close, you will be in metered parking (meter maid checks frequently). The fitting rooms are a little weird as the doors only cover your chest down to your knees - maybe a little farther. I wish they had more home decor/home goods, but overall a wonderful shop. read more

This is a fun little thrift store with LOTS of stuff. Right in central Lafayette you should find parking then mosey on over to the Way Side Inn Thrift Store. The day I was there they were having a blow out of a sale to move all merchandise, it was all you could stuff into a bag for $5.00 !! You can't go wrong with that.... When I asked why all the bargains, a volunteer told me they were getting ready to re-stock the entire store with more items, espcially winter goods, but with lots more books, small furniture, toys, brick-a-brac, antiques, and a new "wall of jeans". Overall, a pretty good store with a very friendly staff (all volunteer, so I'm told) and all profits go to the poor and needy. I come to Moraga to tutor twice a week. I always check out thrift shops and was thankful I took the time to stop in Wayside. On my first visit I found my birthday (60 years this April!!) dress. A silk green polka dot mid calf halter style. Yes! I will be wearing it with perfectly matched western boots. Double yes!! Upon my second visit I bought a trio of unique glass candle holders and a miniature perfume for my collection. Before my sessions with my student come to an end, I will return to Wayside Inn Thrift. Love this little place. I go there every couple of weeks to see what they have. Always quality stuff, sometimes the pricing is little inconsistent and there can be a bit too much stuff that appeals to a more "mature" crowd, but I always find something good. The ladies are great and it's very clean and organized. Definitely worth a stop. read more

The volunteers who comprise the sales staff here are delightful and so interested in their customers. They have a wonderful attitude. In may trips I have picked up a lot of baby clothing and items to donate to a community center. They always have a lot of very reasonably priced baby and children's clothing and books that suited my donation purposes. They have themed sales that they enjoy putting on and put a lot of thought into them. I have seen a lot of people going here to outfit their children. I had a couple of special dress-up events to attend where I did not want to spend a bundle. I put together a couple of cute outfits for myself. I was not expecting to, and for the price, it does not matter if I only wear them once or twice. I have gotten some wonderful treasures here that I am not going to list as I don't want word to get out! Things that would cost four or five times what I paid at a consignment shop. There are always a lot of shoppers, people genuinely like to shop here and contribute here. They support a charity and the people who work here are very charitable. read more

I like the store it is nice and clean, but I think their clothing prices are too high. The only time I bought clothes was when I was handed a 50% off one item coupon when I came in. Another time they were having a sale of some sort and I got a great sweater, but in both cases I would not have paid full price. I have gotten a few other things here, but will not go out of my way to go here. If I am in Lafayette anyway I will stop. I wish they would have more sales or discounts for seniors. Parking can be a real pain and get expensive if you stay very long. That is another reason they should have some sales. read more

This is a really nice thrift store. The layout of the store is okay and the prices are on the upper end...for a thrift store, however, the quality of clothing is much better. The ladies that work at Wayside Inn Thrift Shop are all very nice and friendly. They are not in a rush...so make sure you have enough coins for the parking meter...which is the only downside. read more
