1-star Review for Spruce Park on the River, Kalispell, MT and here is why:…read more I booked this RV park based on the photos and Google reviews, thinking it would be a great spot right on the river while I was driving 2-days from another state. I had no idea what to expect, so I trusted the online reputation. Unfortunately, this experience was incredibly disappointing and frustrating from the moment I arrived. I made my reservation early in the day and spoke to someone on the phone who told me I could stop by the office when I got there to finalize check-in and get my welcome packet. At no point did anyone mention that absolutely no check-in is allowed after 9 PM. I also received an email and completed mobile check-in, which made it even more confusing -- I had my site number and everything paid for, so I assumed I was good to go. I arrived just after 9 PM. The office hours on the door said they were open until 9, and the email clearly stated that packets for late arrivals would be left outside. There was no packet. I called the "24-hour number," and the woman who answered was shockingly rude. She told me, bluntly, "We don't allow check-ins after 9," and when I explained that no one had told me this and I'd already paid, she basically said, "I don't know what to tell you," refused to help, and hung up on me. I had just driven two long days, and all I wanted was the shower code -- which she also refused to give me. To make things worse, the site I booked (in the G lot) was impossible to get into with my fifth wheel. So even if I had been allowed to check in, I couldn't have parked there anyway. Overall, I spent $140 on a spot I couldn't access, got no help from staff, and was treated incredibly rudely. If you're planning to stay here, make sure you understand every single rule ahead of time -- because if there's any issue, don't expect kindness or support from the staff. I would not recommend this place and will not be returning.

Later in the season, we enjoyed playing in and on the gorgeous river flowing alongside the campground. The grass and grounds are very well kept, and the staff are attentive and kind. It feels like a family! Bathrooms are immaculate with cute touches like live flowers and baskets with toiletries. Huge park area for kids to play and dogs to run around in. Nice new playground. Fun cornhole and outside checkers and horseshoes. Overall, one of our favorite places to camp. And don't forget about the hot air balloons that frequently take off right from the park around sunset- what a unique and unforgettable experience!!

When we first arrived the bathrooms were clean and neat, but as the park got full they went downhill quickly. Also this is an older park, with sites that did not anticipate larger rigs with slides. But even that would be workable if the sites weren't so overgrown. We had to tie the overgrowth back against the tree to get our vehicle in. This CG could be so much better with just some aggressive trimming of the verge.

We reserved a tent site for our van and they had nice hot showers. Pretty much all we needed. We got a good nights sleep and arrived in the park before 6am.

The water in the swim zone is shallow enough so little kids can relax and be safe. There are lots of minnows to catch in the water along with decent sized fish in the boat doc area. The only things I have some concern about is all of the children that are little and unwatched and zooming around while cars are driving. I know that is not this places fault but if you bring little children you should definitely watch them. Also, quiet time is at 10:00; the kids are still out running and screaming at that time. I feel like more of the parent supervision should be emphasized more but otherwise great place! Really well maintained and yes the campsites are a little small but it's super cozy and really a great trip to go on and relax.

They had a slide in the middle of the lake. Live music on a Saturday night. The hosts were all so nice and accommodating. We parked our camper van and everything was walkable. They had showers you can purchase with tokens, a small laundry facility you need quarters for and a small store that had a small selection of snacks and drinks and rentable items. I felt safer here then any other campground. The energy here was so positive in many ways. They have the cutest little cabins right on the lake! This place has it all! It really is a perfect little family get away! Perfect for the kids! They loved playing in the lake!!!! I have nothing bad to say about this beautiful place!!! Really enjoyed our stay here!

The campground can get a bit busy during the day as people accidentally pull in looking for parking to do the easy cedars trail which is right next to the campground. It's pretty quiet at night. Let me start off with the good: Obviously, 5 stars for the…read morelocation. Easy access to many epic trailheads. A moose and her baby were in our campground three times during our seven night stay. How cool is that!?! Now, the not so good: 1.) You'll have to be at your computer right when reservations open frantically pushing the *book now* button and praying it ends up in your cart. Otherwise, you'll be checking recreation.gov every spare second you get and hope you time it right and snag a cancellation. 2.) Major road construction to get to MG, so expect delays. A lot of the road is still gravel/unpaved/potholes so you'll have to go slow! Especially if you're towing a trailer or have a RV. 3.) It's bear country! The rangers patrol like crazy and will cite you! Every time you leave your campground, you need to pack up anything that can attract bears (camp stoves, coolers, water bottles, tablecloths). So at least twice a day, we packed up almost everything. Kind of annoying, but understandable. 4.) Designated generator hours three times a day, in the middle of the day. The sites range from shady to sunny to semi-shady. Our site (110) was semi-shady, so we had to sit around in the middle of the day to make sure that our refrigerator had enough power so our food wouldn't spoil during the heatwave. That obviously limited us on our daily activities. 5. ) Over our seven night stay, my friends were able to piecemeal three separate reservations at three different campsites. At check-in, the ranger said the only way we could potentially check cancellations and extend the stay at a site was by going on recreation.gov. Not helpful at all considering there is ZERO cell service for any of the carriers there. (Other camp hosts at other NPs check their printout list, no problem.) 6.) Lastly, it was really sad to see that a lot of reserved sites were no-shows. Given how difficult it is to secure a spot, this was so not cool. Some other miscellaneous items: 1.) Vicious bugs everywhere! We had two Thermacells, citronella wristbands and doused ourselves liberally with bug spray and still managed to get eaten alive. Yes, I know this is the great outdoors. 2.) For 2021: Reservations for MG campground do not admit you to the going to the sun road! This was very unclear! Our neighbors told us the park changed this last minute, as we also were under the impression that we had access via our reservation. Because we didn't have internet access to even get a shot at reserving last minute tickets, we had to wake up at 4am to get through the gate before 6am. Needless to say, we could only swing this one day, which was a huge bummer because a lot of the trails and lakes I was planning on checking out are located in GTSR. We have visited and camped at over 20 national parks and this was the poorest run one by far.

Showers are included in the price, and they are hot and clean. Our tent site had grass, a fire pit, and a picnic table. It was in the back of the park, so it was set back from the road and rest of park so there was no noise. The owner was so friendly and made us feel so welcome and at home. They even had laundry, and we got to have free coffee in the morning!

Realistically, I paid a lot of money to stay in a room. There are really no perks. You have to walk to the restaurant for coffee, food etc but it's not included. It's in a beautiful setting and it's close to the west entrance of the park. There are a couple of restaurants (and bars) nearby. I'd suggest Glacier International Hotel. It's only like 35 minutes from west entrance of the park. It's a better value as it includes breakfast.

Its a bit out of the way in Kalispell between farms, with narrow/tricky streets to contend with. It was a good 15-20 minutes from most of what Kalispell has to offer (Walmart/Shopping/Etc...) and about 35-40 minutes from the entrance to West Glacier. Pro's: 1) One of the cheapest options in Kalispell. 2) Good amount of kids for our boys to play with. 3) Quiet in the back where our site was located. 4) You can wash your RV & Truck!!! Rare these days 5) TMobile was fast enough we didn't need to get out the Starlink. Neutral: 1) Staff was cordial, but I wouldn't say friendly. Had mail sent here (we asked prior and was given the ok). When we went to pick it up, the lady at the front desk told us she was lucky she didn't throw it out as they normally don't accept mail. Packages (Amazon, etc....) are fine but I guess standard mail isn't? 2) Playground is *meh*. Metal slide, so avoid on hot days. Boys mostly played around the swimming pond. Con's: 1) Our particular site was quite muddy, as it rained quite a bit. Others didn't seem as bad. They need to add more gravel to the rear, larger sites. 2) The park has "Seasonal" sites to the side, and double wide trailers (permanent I assume), along with storage facilities and finally the RV park with some cabins built on site. The seasonal area was *rough*. Most of the campers were old & dilapidated with trash and random stuff strewn around. The double wides area were a bit better. Both brought down the feel of this RV park. 3) Trash can's at the rear were overflowing and piling up outside and around. 4) Tree placement on the pull throughs was not ideal. Instead of being able to pull through and go with the flow of traffic, we had to kindly ask our neighbor if they could move their truck so we could pull out and go against the grain so we didn't scrape up the side & roof of our rig. Overall, we wouldn't stay here again. We'd stay closer to Glacier, down in Polson, or somewhere up near Whitefish. We camped at Rocky Mountain Hi RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
