What a beautiful place to stay while visiting Glacier, just a few minutes drive to the park, and Ron was really hospitable, too. We got a great last minute deal on a small cabin equipped with full kitchen and our own fire pit. There is no kitchenware (cookware, dishware, utensils, etc), which is unusual for a place that offers a kitchen, but fortunately I was on the road for over a month and had my camping gear including cookware and groceries. The kitchen was a great amenity nonetheless! The bed was sort of hard and the blankets very thin, but we just layered up and slept just fine. Our bathroom didn't have a sink, so we had to use the kitchen sink when we wanted to brush our teeth, no big deal. The cabins are very private since none of them connect or are close enough to hear your neighbors. The size of the room was perfect for the two of us, but would probably be too crowded for any more than that. Although the back area is all yours, with the fire pit and picnic table, and would serve as a nice place for more company. The place is hard to find at night so keep an eye out! Ron asks that you come before 8pm, I believe, as that's when the office closes and staff is gone for the evening. We were coming from Bozeman and it took much longer than we had expected. We called Ron and he had no problem waiting over an hour and half for us to arrive. When we checked-in, we weren't rushed at all. Ron gave us the rundown of the place, information about the area, and answered all of our questions without missing a beat. There's a couple of stores nearby to restock, but other than that and checking out Glacier National Park once or twice, there really isn't any other reason to leave Lake Five! There's a real homey feeling to the place and we can't wait to visit again.

So I think my boys enjoyed this campground the most of all on our summer trip from California to Montana. They spent many hours in the lake and nobody told us we couldn't do anything we did while we were there which is pretty much the typical anywhere in California. The kids were just free to be kids. The camp is rustic and our site fairly tight, our neighbors were nice and the access to the beach was PERFECT for summer afternoons following exploration. They had plenty of availability to kayak, canoe, stand-up paddle board. My only real improvement suggestion would be to add an afternoon ice cream truck.

The only place to camp at west glacier. The peace and quiet. Trees and a lake. Does not get any better around here.

The service staff is great, there is an onsite cafe (Sunflower Cafe), showers, electric/water hookups, dump station, and large play area. Sites vary from tents to RVs to Cabins, with a maximum RV length of 32'. Our motorhome is 32' with two slides and our site was just right. It was very level for parking, has a fire ring and picnic table (all the tables in the park are in good condition & freshly painted). Some sites are not as level, but they accommodate a wide range of RV & tent campers. The Sunflower Cafe serves breakfast, lunch and dinner in the outside dining area or to go. We had the beef brisket one night and a breakfast sandwich one morning. Both meals were delicious. Although we are in Montana and were expecting to see a lot of pro-GOP/anti-Dem flags & attitudes, we were pleasantly surprised to see none! Our camping neighbors were a nice gay married couple who were super friendly. Liberals, gays and other progressive people would be very comfortable here, as would those not-so-woke. Price-wise they are cheaper than the nearby KOA and are a great option for those who don't camp in the park. We paid $302 (with AAA discount) for 4 nights.

They have everything, it's organized, and there is practically no limit to the amount of great features here at west Glacier KOA. First off, they have a great high class restaurant right on the premises, they serve breakfast 7 days a week and dinner 5 days a week, including steaks and good stuff. Yes it's pricey, everything is 3 miles from the west glacier entrance, but this really is a one stop shop. Also the trailer spots have a table, 6 chairs, an umbrella, and a huge concrete slab to enjoy. Plus TWO dump station choices on each side of the spot. It's super nice to have that slab. They also had a gas grill! We used it plenty. Around 4 pm all guests get a text message from the staff with the evenings offerings. Here's the last one I got: Hey Campers! We've got an exciting evening lined up for you: 5:00 PM - Dinner is served at the Café 5:30 PM - Join us for some creative fun at the Activities Tent 7:00-8:00 PM - Birds of Prey Presentation: meet amazing birds, falcons, and owls in the Activities Tent 7:00-9:00 PM - Enjoy live music by Mike Boucher in the Bear Garden Plus, don't miss out--Scoops will be serving up tasty ice cream treats all evening long! And the ice cream shop is amazing too! The only thing the place could improve I think is the store. They could have more grocery items and less souvenirs. And the only other thing is they don't let kids in the hot tub. There were two pools? One was for families and the other was for "adults", and that one had a hot tub. Having young kids prevented me from using the hot tub at all. Our family met us there from out of state, and they got the cheapest cabin, and beware that those least expensive cabins come without a bathroom inside! But overall this place is whole and complete and is perfect for families! Also there's TONS of fun activities near the campground. Not just GNP for going in but there's tons of other activities within 10 miles. And using the app to get going to the sun tickets isn't too bad. We tried and both me and my family member got tickets in the group we wanted. You just have to be online at exactly 7pm on the recreation.gov app.

Let me start off with the good: Obviously, 5 stars for the…read morelocation. Easy access to many epic trailheads. A moose and her baby were in our campground three times during our seven night stay. How cool is that!?! Now, the not so good: 1.) You'll have to be at your computer right when reservations open frantically pushing the *book now* button and praying it ends up in your cart. Otherwise, you'll be checking recreation.gov every spare second you get and hope you time it right and snag a cancellation. 2.) Major road construction to get to MG, so expect delays. A lot of the road is still gravel/unpaved/potholes so you'll have to go slow! Especially if you're towing a trailer or have a RV. 3.) It's bear country! The rangers patrol like crazy and will cite you! Every time you leave your campground, you need to pack up anything that can attract bears (camp stoves, coolers, water bottles, tablecloths). So at least twice a day, we packed up almost everything. Kind of annoying, but understandable. 4.) Designated generator hours three times a day, in the middle of the day. The sites range from shady to sunny to semi-shady. Our site (110) was semi-shady, so we had to sit around in the middle of the day to make sure that our refrigerator had enough power so our food wouldn't spoil during the heatwave. That obviously limited us on our daily activities. 5. ) Over our seven night stay, my friends were able to piecemeal three separate reservations at three different campsites. At check-in, the ranger said the only way we could potentially check cancellations and extend the stay at a site was by going on recreation.gov. Not helpful at all considering there is ZERO cell service for any of the carriers there. (Other camp hosts at other NPs check their printout list, no problem.) 6.) Lastly, it was really sad to see that a lot of reserved sites were no-shows. Given how difficult it is to secure a spot, this was so not cool. Some other miscellaneous items: 1.) Vicious bugs everywhere! We had two Thermacells, citronella wristbands and doused ourselves liberally with bug spray and still managed to get eaten alive. Yes, I know this is the great outdoors. 2.) For 2021: Reservations for MG campground do not admit you to the going to the sun road! This was very unclear! Our neighbors told us the park changed this last minute, as we also were under the impression that we had access via our reservation. Because we didn't have internet access to even get a shot at reserving last minute tickets, we had to wake up at 4am to get through the gate before 6am. Needless to say, we could only swing this one day, which was a huge bummer because a lot of the trails and lakes I was planning on checking out are located in GTSR. We have visited and camped at over 20 national parks and this was the poorest run one by far.

The barbecue area, located on the right side of the entrance, was a highlight. It has a covered spot with seating, a few fire pits where we roasted marshmallows (they even offer small s'mores packets), and a cozy setup for gatherings. There's also a small restaurant with a limited menu, which is a nice option, plus they serve ice cream. However, the tents themselves left a lot to be desired. Most don't have bathrooms, and I had to use the community restroom. While it was reasonably clean and cute, it's still a communal space. The tents are quite small with very little privacy--you can hear people walking by very clearly, and it doesn't feel like real camping or even glamping. What really shocked me was the price. My in-laws stayed in a tent with a bathroom, and it cost around $800 per night, which is absolutely ridiculous. For that price, I'd expect a luxurious hotel, not a cramped tent with limited amenities. If you prioritize comfort like I do, I honestly wouldn't recommend this place. It's far too expensive for what's offered, and I don't think it's worth the cost. It's a nice spot for a barbecue or a day outing, but not for an overnight stay.
