Let me start by saying I hadn't had a professional hair appointment in about 6 years since my previous stylist (whom I adore) moved away. I had been to many people before and had awful experiences so after they moved away I just didn't trust anybody to touch my hair. I just let it grow and sometimes I'd just chop it myself. Fast forward and two kids later, my brother and sister-in-law were getting married and we made an appointment for her wedding hair/makeup with Natalie. I tagged along for support. I was so impressed with Natalie and her talent and kindness that I booked an appointment for myself later on. Let me tell you, this place is just wonderful. First off, everybody is just so incredibly nice. Also this place is nice and private so it is great for women who are muslim or jewish and cover their hair and do not wish for males to see their hair while it is being styled. Also, they are VERY kid friendly and I greatly appreciate that. My toddler had toys to play with and sat with me either on the floor or on my lap while Natalie did her magic. We felt totally at ease in a welcoming environment. Natalie listened carefully to what I wanted. She did a fantastic job on my hair and basically took what I had in my head and put it ON my head! No one, except my previous stylist could do that! I am simply over joyed and I will be back! Oh and the wedding hair and make up for my sister-in-law on the day of was spot on as well. I hadn't been to a hair salon in over 2 years (yes my hair was crying) so I finally decided it was time to give up the $7 do it yourself box from the store and get it done right. I found Glam Dolls through Groupon and my wallet really agreed with the deal so I did some yelp research on the place. Though I didn't want to break the bank as I am a starving student at the moment, I also wanted quality work. I was skeptical at first because there seemed to be a few iffy reviews mixed in with mostly good reviews (which is to be expected) but like any girl I take my hair seriously lol . When I got there Megan introduced herself to me and we started the consultation right away. I too was a little nervous at how young she looked but quickly realized I was in good hands. We thoroughly covered everything I wanted done and she made sure to understand exactly how I wanted it (specifically the "I want no length gone" part) while applying the dye She was super sweet and friendly as we chatted it up, gave an awesome scalp massage while washing my hair out, and did the cut and blow dry exactly how I wanted. First I would like to begin by saying that this was the first time I had ever been to a real salon and boy was it memorable. Ashley was my stylist and she was absolutely fantastic. She truly listened to me and was patient with me as I was so indecisive with what I wanted to do with my hair. She made quite a few suggestions all of which ended up being spot-on in the end. I got a cut and a partial color that made me feel like a new woman. Ladies, this gal really knows how to do hair. She's an artist and her down to earth personality makes the experience that much more enjoyable. As for the rest of the salon, I was warmly greeted by the other stylists right as I walked in the door. The salon is small but they've done a great job with the space. I'd also like to add that while I waited for the color to set Ashley offered me some water and asked if I wanted to use their computer or read a magazine. I thought that was pretty neat. I was extremely pleased with amazing make up Joanna did for me, my bridesmaids and my mom on my wedding day. Not only did she do a beautiful job, she was right on time and very professional and organized. I have had bridal make up trials with other "make up artists", and their airbrush cracked and looked awful, but Joanna's airbrush smoothed out my skin, looked perfect and stayed on all day through sweating and dancing. I bought a coupon off of Group On for a hair cut, and this is the second salon that I've had a terrible experience at using their coupons. Maybe paying full price gets you better treatment? I would like to start out by saying that the woman I had my hair cut by was perfectly nice and sweet, and it seemed like she was stressed/overwhelmed by the volume of customers due to wedding season and her coworkers being out, as well as the early hour. So maybe this explains some of the trouble I experienced. When I arrived to the building, it took me a few minutes to figure out where the business was, due to a lack of signage. You need to walk in the building and up the stairs, and you'll find the door on your right. The state of the front door was my first warning sign- the blinds were broken and askew, with smears all over the glass. As someone who has worked in retail for over a decade, it made a bad first impression. The state of the salon was similar- the layout was nice, but the room seemed a bit dirty and unkempt. The stylist greeted me warmly, and we started. Since I keep my hair short, I'm usually in a salon once every 3 months, so I'm used to communicating effectively with a stylist to achieve what I have in mind and 9/10 never have any issue. She starts by washing my hair, and I wish I had said something to her while I was in the chair. She plopped my neck down on the edge of the sink with no padding, and I decided to tough it out for the few moments I expected her to take to wash my very short hair. I kept expecting her to be done at any moment- but she kept going. Next, came the hair trim. I had a short straight bob with straight across bangs, and I asked her to take a little off. I had to take off my glasses, and when she asked me to put them back on, I was confused. She had given me a 90s mom mullet. The front was extremely short and disjointed from the long duck tail in the back. I asked her if she could even the two out, as what I was looking for was a shorter version of the straight plain cut I had walked in with. It took us four rounds like this, where she trimmed a few hairs, and then I had to keep asking her keep evening the front and back out. Finally another customer came in, and I felt exhausted and embarrassed to keep asking her to trim again and again, so I just agreed the last time, even though I felt it was still a little off. By the end of the haircut, the stylist also seemed out of patience and irritated, although she was never rude. Because of how short she first cut the front of my hair, my "trim" ending up taking 3 inches off my length. Luckily it'll grow out fairly quickly to a more suitable length, so I'm not too mad about it. The only irritating thing I had to deal with were my bangs- which were so uneven I had to go to another salon afterwards to trim all the strays. My overall grievance was that it shouldn't have taken an hour for the whole process, nor such back and fourth. The salon could definitely use another person on staff at the same time, as my haircut was constantly being interrupted by phone calls, and to keep the place cleaner. read more

I want to recommend this salon, because there were times this particular stylist I was seeing was great and lovely. But, now I am thinking why even give 3 stars. I have saying bad things about a place or person, but sometimes people deserve it for the way they act or treat people. I started going to Glam Dolls after relocating here back from the east coast a little over a year ago. I had been seeing one of the stylist and my end results were beautiful in the beginning and than not always spot on towards the end. I won't get into detail unless asked otherwise. I tipped 20% on anything I had ever done even when coming in to fix things. I thought she was a very lovely person and we had some good conversations. I felt at times things as time went on things got more sloppy but I was always willing to keep trying because I liked the salon and atmosphere. I am someone who likes to change hair styles and color a lot. I have made really good friends from afar that have been previous stylists for me and never have I experienced this. Since, the Covid has shut things down it's been hard to manage hair. I'm anxious now to get it colored, and cut like most people are at the point. I have reached out for a few weeks now. This will he the third time since before Mother's Day I have reached out to the stylist to see if they did in home, at the least or when they would be scheduling again. I don't go anywhere until now I am going to at some point get back into work and life like everyone else. A girl needs her hair done. The stylist was actually on my Facebook page until today where I was blocked. I don't understand what happened instead of a simple reply back would've been nice. All I asked is when will they be scheduling appointments and/or if she wanted to make money and come in home. I didn't receive any replies, and messaged the owner and nothing. I hired this company to do my hair and make up for my wedding. Becca showed up on time she seemed really shy and wasn't very helpful for being a "makeup artist." I don't wear allot of makeup so I had hoped she'd be more insightful. To my surprise she didn't bring a curling iron at all So she couldn't curl my hair. I would think that would be a basic staple in her supply box. This was a destination wedding for us and all I brought was my straighter thinking my hair and makeup artist would surely bring everything needed. so, despite knowing exactly what I wanted my hair to look like, I didn't get that. My makeup disappeared from my face a hour into my reception which was fine because honestly I HATED IT. honestly I could have done a better job myself. HOWEVER, I opted to pay extra for airbrush because they told me it would last all day. Also, in the middle of my wedding ceremony my veil fell out!! I trusted that she would know how to secure it. instead one of my bridesmaids had to catch it and reattach it. I'm sorry but I just cannot in good conscience recommend this company for bridal. Looooved my haircut here! I had Natalie as my stylist and she rocked. I was in need of a major haircut so I looked on Groupon and found a deal with Glam Dolls for a shampoo, hair dry and hair cut! I had to book my appointment till Thursday at 11am (I called Monday) because they were booked. The salon is located on 4th avenue on the second floor of a house. Parking was not hard to find but i did have to pay for street parking, but thats ok! I was greeted and then sat down while i waited for Natalie to finish her previous appointment. The place looks clean and inviting. There was only 2 other people there which was nice cuz it wad quiet and relaxing. Once i sat down i told her a bit about my hair , showed her a picture of how my hair usually looks/want. She then washed my hair and then proceeded with the cut. Loved how she wasn't rushing and was playing close attention to detail. After she hair dried it she added some curls with the straightener. Definitely recommend This place and Natalie! read more

I had a photo shoot to go to so I booked Glam Dolls to do my makeup and hair style. On their web page you can choose to contact them via phone or email. I choose to email them, it took 2 days to get a response. I emailed the picture of how I wanted my hair to look. Upon arrival to the salon, the stylist did not have my picture, nor was she aware that I had sent one over. The makeup artist had to text Joanna (owner) to get the picture. The hair style I wanted was fifties glam, loosy curls, with one long wavy, curl for the long bang in the front. We got the picture and the sylist said that she had a lot of experience doing retro hair styles and that I had come to the right place! I was excited. The whole time I was turned away from the mirror so I couldn't see her progress, but when she was done, it barely resembled the picture. No long face framing wavy/curl in front. She had used a regular curling iron on me and after talking to my regular stylist about my experience she said that look would require my hair being in rollers. I was not happy that the look I requested had been brought to life. But I had to get to the shoot and there really wasn't time for her to change anything. It looked ok, but it wasn't what I had asked for. Cost $55 I decided to spend an extra $30 and get the airbrush makeup. Airbrusing cost me $85. The make up artist took about 20 min to do my makeup. She put a pale pink lipstick on me and a very light amount of blush even though I said that I was going to a photoshoot. I looked so washed out in my photos. Also, the lashes she put on me were not put on very well. I checked my makeup after being in the car for a min and a piece of one was already starting the pull up. The lashes lasted about 6 hours and then I had to just take them off. Cost $15 I wish I had just done my own hair and make up and saved myself $155. I cannot recommend Glam Dolls. read more

I should have read the reviews before coming here. I'm so unhappy with the way my hair turned out I had to turn around and make an appointment somewhere else to get it fixed. I repeatedly said I thought my hair looked orange and my concerns were dismissed and I was told it's just the lighting. My hair is a horrible orange/red/brassy color when I asked for an all over nice brown. How do you not see that?! The cut was so minimal it doesn't seem like I got one at all. Decided to give this review 1 star due to the poor coloring job. I had a great haircut, but the dye job was too awful to rate this salon any higher. My experience: Like many others, I discovered this salon thru Groupon. I tried to set up an appointment without purchasing a groupon because there wasn't much time left to buy and I could not go during that time. The girls at the salon were awesome and honor the groupon regardless which I think is awesome, few - if any, places do that. I was able to reschedule when I had to and there was no problem. Off to a great start! Once I arrived for my cut and color I was a bit confused, there are no signs outside and I was not sure where to go, luckily someone saw me walking outside and pointed me in the right direction. If you decide to try this place, make sure you go up the stairs to get to the salon. Another good thing was there was plenty of 2 hour street parking (I was there early) but by the time I left everything was full. Make sure you bring plenty of change. My appointment was with Natalie and she was sweet. We had a lot in common and instead of me having to keep busy on my phone or with magazines she was very chatty, something I appreciated, there is nothing worse than awkward silence. I told her about my bad cut and she assured me she would fix it, and surprisingly she did! I thought all hope was lost for my bad hair but she did a great cut (not to mention my hair has been SO smooth). I would definitely go back to her for a hair cut, color, probably not. I asked for a warm chocolate brown, not too dark, but not too light, I wanted it to be a nice fall color. Well as soon as she washed my hair (still wet) I could tell it was way too dark. Even wet it was pitch black. There is brown in there definitely, but only in the spots where my blonde highlights were, the rest is VERY dark. It is especially dark around my face which I hate the most, if you look directly at my face all you see is black hair, not brown. If you look from other angles and dig thru my hair, there is some brown in there, but that isnt really what I asked for... I have since bought some shampoo that is supposed to lighten your hair which was too slow. So today I bought color oops and just took all the color out. I am now back to my natural hair color and out $60 + the cost of correcting the horrible job. Another bad thing about Natalie's color job was there was dye ALL over my head! I know that happens, but this was crazy and I had to go to work after. I was late from trying to scrub all the dye off my skin. Not too happy about that. Also, make sure you have a credit card or the exact amount you want to pay in cash. I paid in cash and wanted some change back but no one in the entire salon had any change, so I had to leave a bigger tip than I wanted to (tip amount went down after the bad dye job.) For these reasons I give this salon 3 stars. Not the best, not the worst. My hair cut experience was awesome, color experience was bad... Worth a try if you are in need of a new salon and willing to take a chance, could be risky and you might be paying the price like me! read more

I made an appointment with Natalie for my engagement photo shoot makeup and hairdo. She provided a wonderful customer service, however the makeup and hairdo were disappointing. I had a picture of how I exactly I wanted my hair to look, she look at it 5 seconds then began to work on my hair. 45 mins later, I had a totally different hairstyle than the picture. She gave me a bridal hairdo when I wanted an easy, romantic hairstyle.... Anyway, the makeup looked fine but still too bridal. I wouldn't suggest anyone to go there for anything other than bridal makeup and hairdo. Find a nice salon to do your hair and do your own makeup. It's not worth $140. read more

I came here last Saturday for a cut and color as part of a groupon deal. (I never bought the groupon, but they said they would honor it). Before I went to the salon let me debrief you: I have been dying my hair (myself) for the last 6 months. I am naturally a brunette and dying it red. Unfortunately the maintenance is killer to stay red. Every time I turned around I noticed my beautiful auburn locks and faded into a bright orange ginger. (I can't pull off bright orange ginger). So this exact scenario happened a week before Glam Dolls. I went home and tried dying my hair a brown, but not a week later it was orange-ish. So I decided to leave it to a professional and booked an appointment at Glam Dolls. The one complaint I have was setting up the appointment. I called them at least three times on Friday to set up an appointment that night but it went straight to voice mail. One of the girls finally called me back at about 4:30. I set up an appointment for the next morning. My stylist was Ashley. She is an adorable girl covered in bad ass tattoos (her hubby is a local tattoo artist) with a cute southern accent (she's from Alabama). If you can't tell already we got along really well while she was doing my hair. First she gave me a great consult. We talked about exactly what I wanted, cut and color wise and she made sure she had a very clear understanding of what I was trying to explain. She then got out the color book and again showed me what she suggested and then also asked which ones I liked. Together we came up with a magical color. Ashley did such a great job. She got all the orangey red out of my hair and now its a beautiful golden brown. Now on to the cut. I have really long hair and I had nothing going on. I told her I didn't want to lose any length but I just needed some excitement. I wanted some layers but I wanted to make sure my hair wouldn't be stringy at the ends. Together we decided the shortest layer length and she let me know she used to have long hair and she knows even a centimeter feels like a foot when you cut it so she wouldn't cut much off the length. After an hour and a half of socializing and bonding, I had an amazing cut and color. Ashley is so great. She mentioned she was only covering another girl while she was out of town, that she normally works in a salon in Scripps Ranch, but she is trying to move down here. I really hope she does because I would rather not make the trip to Scripps Ranch. But I will definitely be going back to Ashley!! read more

I had an appointment with Yuque as I walked in she had another client and said she would be a few more minutes. which was fine. but after almost an hour and she was still working on a client I walked out. she giggled a "sorry" as i walked out. it was terribly unprofessional. A phone call or text to let me know she was going to be late would have been fine. i would have the option to reschedule. not to mention, this was the 2nd time i made an appointment with her. i wanted to give her another chance after the first hair cut cutting my bangs so short i had to clip them until it grew out. sadly, i will never ever give her my business again. read more

Ok, I posted a previous review of this place based on my experience with the nail technician, and the nail technician responded by replying with a personal message. She was very apologetic, and I believe that she was being sincere in her apology, so that's why i'm updating my post. I know my initial experience here was a bit uncomfortable. I know and understand the lady who did my nails was trying to be personable, and she wanted to get to know me as a client. I totally get that, but as far as pointing out or commenting on stereotypes that are based on an individual's ethnic background, especially to someone you hardly know, can sometines offend them. Again, I know it's all for fun and joking pruposes, but I didn't even know her on a personal basis yet, and it was just a bit too much for me at that point in time considering I was new to the salon and had just gotten laid off. I just wanted to try a new salon rather than my usual place, so I gave this place a shot. It was definitely a new experience, and I don't regret it because the nail lady was an overall decent person on a conversational level when she didn't make those comments. I believe she has good intentions and trying to be funny, but at the same time it was just un professional to make those comments about Asian people without knowing me/or group of individuals that are Asian. Joanna is a super talented person. She did my hair and make up for my wedding and I must say that it was the most simple part of the entire day! She was fast, professional and super skilled at what she does. I gave her a color and an idea of a theme and she did all the rest. Glam Dolls is the best! I gave Joanna a basic idea of what I would like during my hair and makeup trial and she went above and beyond my expectations!
