I was visiting San Diego after graduation and was in desperate need of a haircut. I saw on groupon that this place was about $25 for a haircut and decided to try it. I called in and made my appointment the morning of and they were able to accommodate me. A year ago, I got my hair bleached for a balayage and my stylist never told me how to take care of my hair. It slowly died and because really dry and rough. I had to chop a lot of it off so that I could have healthy hair again. Yuque was my stylist and it was a really nice and relaxing experience. She was really sweet and made sure I liked the length. She was great at her job and knew what she was doing. There was no one else in the salon so it was a really quiet and relaxing experience. She shampooed and conditioned my hair before beginning and recommended some products. After finishing up, she dried it to make sure I like it and then styles it for me. This is a really great place to come for your haircut, especially with the price Groupon is offering. One thing is that parking is kind of difficult. Megan is my stylist and has been working with me on my VERY hard to dye hair. I am TOTALLY a natural blonde (ok ok I paid for it.... naturally) and I have her to thank. For so long I have been walking around with shameful brassy orange hair thinking I was looking good when I was not. If I feel something needs this or that she is works hard to make me happy and that is important. She GETS that doing hair is about repeat customers and I am loyal. She has even come in on her day off to whip my roots back into submission. I like that the salon has a very comfortable feel and the other girls are really nice. If it is your first time you can hunt around for a deal from Groupon or Yelp and try it out. I don't think you will be sorry! Bring change for parking! Bought a haircut Groupon and booked an appointment with no hassle. I tried to book online but ran out of time before yoga class so I called in and someone picked up right away! She was really nice and got me in for the time I was trying to book online. The salon was neat and clean with complimentary coffee and water. I got my haircut with Yuque and she was super sweet and friendly. She made sure she knew what I wanted and if I was ok with how much length she was going to take off before starting to cut which I really appreciated. Joanna just did my bridal makeup, lashes and hair for my wedding on 11/11/11. She was so fabulous! She worked with me from afar (I live in Vegas) and was on top of things when it came time for us to set up appointments and find out what room I was in. My hair was long forever and ever and I decided it was time to take the plunge and get a Bob she did a perfect job with the cut being how I wanted it to look.The color as well turned out great my hair was very dark and I wanted to have a lighter brown she really listen to what I wanted and I am amazed at how different I feel and look. They were booked out for the same week which is pleasantly surprising, means they're good at what they do! I showed up to my appointment and the stylist was finishing up her appointment ahead of me. She was super sweet and did an amazing job on my 4(!) inch request off of my length as well as texturizing and redoing my side bangs. I had a picture of the length of bangs I wanted and she definitely delivered. The length is short but exactly what I asked for. I was really disappointed by the "haircut" and color provided by Juque. There's a reason "haircut," is in quotes by the way. On the plus side, Juque was kind and prompt and listened thoroughly as I told her that my naturally platinum hair was almost too blonde and lacked dimension and that after 15 years of having no style and one dimension, I'd like to "really shake things up and do something dramatic." I discussed shorter one length (though layers for body would be fine) hair that would keep my blonde but offset it with large chunks of brown. I wanted a rich brown, and I definitely stated I wanted something new, vibrant and noticeably different. She "listened" and said she totally understood, but she didn't follow through, at all? $100 later it looked like my tips were dipped in a dirty brown, she did highlights that were very delicate and just kind of cover the platinum in an unnatural way, making the overall look a mousy light brown. A far cry from the vibrancy I was looking for. As she unwound the highlights I was sooo disappointed, but still holding hope, "would my friends and students notice right away," I asked. Her response was, "well, it's subtle." Subtle...subtle? Subtle was definitely the OPPOSITE of any words I had mentioned. I wanted dramatic, fun and very different from what I had. Nonetheless, I was hoping it was just the dark lights of the salon at 5:30pm, and braced myself for the cut - at which point she said, "well, I'll just tidy it up a bit?" Tidy what up? I had no hair style and hadn't cut it in 15 years? Now, in her defense I had originally said I would like to keep putting my hair up, but when she said if she made it shorter I couldn't I said...ok, no worries, let's do it and I'll give up the idea of putting it up. I wanted this bling cut on the bottom and didn't want any slant. She proceeded, despite what I said, to just give it a very small trim. She cut about 1/8 of an inch off, didn't cut anywhere to promote body, didn't cut the long bang, didn't cut anything, didn't give it any style. I was so bummed I just handed her $100 and left. She had already welcomed and moved on to her new client. Please note...this is a lot of money for me as a teacher and I'd saved up for this special day. I'm so embarrassed to go out, it looks like I danced the tips in the ink well of my students and - as for style - I went right back to just putting it up. So sad. I thought that mentioning Groupon part way through might have got me this result that didn't match my wishes but, now that I've read the prices at the salon, it looks like I actually paid more WITH the Groupon? She is a very nice person but this was a very bad coloring and it was a non-cut. read more

SO this is the first review I have ever written on yelp. Yes, thats correct, I made this account JUST to tell you about my experience here. I walked in, one of the stylist was walking around barefoot (YUCK!) and watching a movie on her laptop in the middle of the 'waiting room' (AKA couch in the middle of the salon stations). I was annoyed by her constant commentary only because every other word was a cuss word... how professional... On the other side of the couch was another stylist shoving a burrito in her mouth and spilling hot sauce on the couch. Needless to say I'm glad I sat in an empty salon chair to wait. However, after all the red flags, my girl was really sweet over the phone and I wanted to give her a chance. I love that they got me in same day however when I got there I waited twenty minutes for my stylist to finish with her previous client. When she finally took me I explained to her what I wanted. I wanted my golden blonde color in my bangs to stay GOLDEN BLONDE (AKA match my roots to it please!). Than I simply wanted to dye the rest of my hair its natural color. Easy Peezy one would think! I left the salon with wet hair because I have curls and its best to let it air dry. However to my shock when I got home I found BLACK hair in the back (I am a light dark brown) and PLATINUM BLONDE in the front around my face with my golden blonde on the end of my bangs still left. I look like Cruella De-ville! I immediately started the water works and called my usual stylist (she was out of town for a month) and begged her to get me in when she gets back. I can not say ENOUGH about how much I love Joanna! She is absolutely wonderful in so many different ways.. not only is she super talented at what she does, but she is one of the sweetest, kindest people you will ever come across! I first came to Joanna to get my lashes done after being super impressed with the lashes she did for a patient of mine. After that, I decided to have her help me with my hair. I was getting compliments left and right on my lashes, and when she helped improve my hair, everyone noticed and I felt like a celebrity =) She has done my makeup and I don't remember ever turning so many heads in a day! Recently I was hospitalized and Joanna was so good to come to the hospital to help me feel like myself again. She ALWAYS takes such great care of me and is EXTREMELY good at what she does!! I don't trust ANYONE else with my hair (everyone else that has touched my hair has always cut TOO much off and I end up in tears) and now the same with my lashes! Joanna is super generous on her pricing as well and gives deals on referrals. Bottom line: if you want FANTASTIC results from an EXTRAORDINARY person, GO TO JOANNA!! Joanna did an awesome job on my hair and makeup! The salon was really close to the venue I was getting married at. I came in for my trial deciding between a half up-do and a low up-do. I was leaning more on the half up-do. Joanna tried both styles on my hair. The low up-do was super cute! She made a suggestion to place it to the side so guests can see it from the front and I couldn't agree more. For make up, the airbrush looked great. It stayed on the rest of the day so I was confident on how I'd look for the wedding. The day of the wedding, we went over everything to make sure I didn't change my mind on how I wanted my hair and make up. I'm glad I had Joanna do my hair and make up because she did a beautiful job! She did an amazing job dying my dark black hair to red.. which could have definitely gone wrong, but LOVED it! And cut my hair exactly how I wanted it. I could not stop staring at my hair! I will definitely be going back :) Just one thing to note: horrible parking! I found her on Yelp! All fellow yelpers are so right on! I called Joanna desperate a day before hoping she can squeeze me in the very next day for a trial. And She DID! We meet at her studio at 5 AM , as she had a full schedule that day with other trials and weddings to do (it was a Saturday ) She listened carefully as I explained the look I wanted. Joanna is very knowledgeable using Air Brush make up. I was so happy how I looked. Also we did at least 2 different hair styles the same morning. Needed less to say, I booked her services for my wedding right there. The day of my wedding, she was the 1st vendor to arrive. There she was smiling and ready to get me started with one of the most special days of my life! She came a bit early, so my hair and make up weren't rush at all. My hair do came out even better then during the trial! The only reason I'm not giving five stars is because Joanna's partner didn't meet my MOH hair expectations. Some gal's don't know much about how or what they can do to maximize their hair and my MOH relied on the hair professional. She made a small change on the hair do but it didn't really made a big difference. I bet if Glam Dolls chick was a bit more creative that little incident would have not even been remembered. I am so lazy. I found this joint via Yelp. It said, and I quote, "0.0 miles away." Honestly, that's what sold me. I made an appointment for the next day, not knowing who I was going to see, and I crossed my fingers for something presentable. Hadn't dyed my hair in a few years, but I got that itch to go back to my asian blonde days, so I went to get it done. I walked in, first customer of the morning, shook hands with this friendly, gorgeous gal named Megan, had a quick talk about how blonde I wanted to go, and hopped to having my hair bleached. I freaked out the entire time when my roots started getting platinum-y, but Megan was really reassuring and a quick worker. She got my hair super light in just one pass, which was a relief since it's bad enough that I was bleaching my hair once--let alone twice. Then she put some toner in, all that good stuff, and got it to exactly the strawberry/honey blonde I'd wanted! She also tinted my eyebrows so they wouldn't be so dark in comparison to my hair. Did a great job. I'll be back to do my roots and touch up in a few weeks. All around loved my experience. Extremely annoyed and disappointed at how disorganized they are. Made an appointment for Tues at 5:30 with Yuque. I called them several times that day just to confirm that appointment and they did not pick up. I left them a couple voicemails as well. I still decided to drive their because I really wanted my hair cut that day. I drove 45 minutes in traffic from Carmel Valley. When I got there the door was locked and the lady in the office below told me that no one had been there all day. It was a little tricky to find since it's inside a building on the second floor. The space itself is pretty small and nothing super fancy. It is inviting and clean however. Natalie did my cut and color. She was very friendly and took the time to ask me what I was looking for in my new color and really understand how I wanted my hair to look. She gave me some low maintenance peek a boo high lights and then taught me how to curl my newly shortened hair. I am shocked to see so many negative reviews, because when I saw her last, I couldn't believe how much I enjoyed my experience! The color she used was amazing. It made my hair incredibly soft and supple and it didn't wash out. She used a straighter to curl my hair after and it was the best I have ever had! There's no parking, so plan on searching for a parking meter and bring your change. So Joanna did my hair and makeup for my wedding in June and she did a fantastic job! She was there 10 minutes early, she did everyone's hair quickly and beautifully and the makeup she did was flawless! Most of the girls had very vague ideas (or in some cases no idea at all) and she got them all done so beautifully! My hair and makeup rocked! My only complaint was that some of the curls came unpinned later in the day and I had a lot of fly aways, not her fault, I just have difficult and stubborn hair. Trust me she used a LOT of hair spray and I used more after she left just to be sure I was good. Stupid hair! One of my girls was a little rude and a little overly dramatic but Joanna just smiled and said, "Give me some feedback and we can fix it. Let me start by saying I hadn't had a professional hair appointment in about 6 years since my previous stylist (whom I adore) moved away. I had been to many people before and had awful experiences so after they moved away I just didn't trust anybody to touch my hair. I just let it grow and sometimes I'd just chop it myself. Fast forward and two kids later, my brother and sister-in-law were getting married and we made an appointment for her wedding hair/makeup with Natalie. I tagged along for support. I was so impressed with Natalie and her talent and kindness that I booked an appointment for myself later on. Let me tell you, this place is just wonderful. First off, everybody is just so incredibly nice. Also this place is nice and private so it is great for women who are muslim or jewish and cover their hair and do not wish for males to see their hair while it is being styled. Also, they are VERY kid friendly and I greatly appreciate that. My toddler had toys to play with and sat with me either on the floor or on my lap while Natalie did her magic. We felt totally at ease in a welcoming environment. Natalie listened carefully to what I wanted. She did a fantastic job on my hair and basically took what I had in my head and put it ON my head! No one, except my previous stylist could do that! I am simply over joyed and I will be back! Oh and the wedding hair and make up for my sister-in-law on the day of was spot on as well.
