I am extremely disappointed with my experience here. Not only are the items significantly overpriced, but they also refused to honor the prices clearly marked on the products. When I brought this to the staff's attention, they were incredibly rude instead of trying to be helpful. So I came here because I live down the street. It's really convenient place to buy your hair needs. So I googled what time the store stated that it was closed and it says 8pm. So here I am at 6:22 outside of their door because the security closed the door in my face saying their closed. He didn't even give me a chance to say on the website it's says 8pm. I felt that was very rude and disrespectful. They should at least fix that so people won't come here after hours wasting their time like I just did. It's really disappointing because I would've came earlier. That or they should update their website because that's false information that's being advertised. read more

I really like this store. It's not ginormous like the competitor down the street but they have a great assortment and the prices are affordable. I feel like the other beauty supply store that are near by have increased their prices enough where if you are buying 4+ packs of hair it's going to make a difference. Especially if you are changing up your look often it will start to add up. The assortment they have suits my needs. They had the clip on's in Kinky which is hard to find at a decent price. I've gone to a few shops in Oakland and Richmond and if they had kinky clips on they were $15+ more. I picked up clip ons, packs of hair and a few hair turbans because the selection and prices fit the budget. I'll make the trek back down this way again. The only downside is the parking situation so give yourself time to figure that out if you think you are just going to pop in real quick. read more

Always appreciate this beauty supply. Big enough to find what you're looking for but not extremely huge where you feel hopeless, looking around lost. Great to pop in for the basic essentials. Also have such a variety of hair, wigs, tools and potions that you might spend a bit of time in here. Wow. Nice joint. I live across the Bay on the Peninsula, and any time I need hair for Senegalese twists or braids, I have to come to the East Bay. There's a spot in the city I frequent, and there's another place in Hayward. I came here on a whim. We'd just finish eating mac n'cheese at Homeroom, and we were headed home. I saw the store up ahead, and I asked my husband to pull in the parking lot. What a nice surprise! Huge store, TONS of hair supplies, and pretty good prices. I left with a hot comb and two brushes. I didn't buy any hair this time around, but I'll keep this store in mind when I get my Senegalese twists in a few weeks. read more

I was on a wild goose chase for a Lucille Ball wig for Halloween. I started my tour de wig at Glamor Beauty Supply. Glamor Beauty Supply is located next to MacArthur BART Station and has its own parking lot so it made for a good first stop. They have a vast selection of beauty supply products but their range of wigs is pretty limited. If you want something basic in a classic cut and color they are likely to have it. If you are looking for crazy colors or styles the selection here is pretty scarce. I did not try on any wigs but the staff were very helpful even looking in the back for additional styles and colors. As far as beauty supply places go this one has good customer service and a vast well organized selection of beauty products. For once I didn't feel like I was in a hoarders paradise. I will definitely come back to stock up on beauty supply products. read more

I have to give a huge praise to this shop. Not only do people seem to love doing business with them but they also donated 25 bundles of hair for my groups charity hair show. My school, avalon school of cosmetology, puts on a charity hair show every year to benefit a great cause. This year out event benefited break the silence, which advocates against domestic violence. Being a natural hair wearing woman, this place has a variety of natural hair care products and Afro combs that don't break while combing my natural curls. Their prices are very low in comparison to other nearby suppliers. The only drawback is the parking. I have to park on the street but I always seem to find a space. I use certain Afro combs and they have plenty considering how many wigs they have in stock. I just wish that they would dust off some of their products which look outdated and dusty at times. read more

I went here to buy a few items yesterday. As I was shopping I noticed the Asian woman behind the counter was staring me down with a upsetting face. She didn't ask me if I needed help looking for anything. She made me feel very uncomfortable as if I was just trying to steal. I don't think she realized this is how you run your customers away. DO NOT GO HERE!! I was so excited to find a local beauty supply as I just moved to Oakland. However, this place treats their customers HORRIBLY. I have tried to go here twice and the bleach blonde attendant constantly stares at me and makes rude comments. I'm not sure why they treat their customers so rudely but they definitely push out business. This place is really in the hood and the attendants are going to be really rude. So if you go here just make sure to stand your ground with them. Plus, there are so many better stores in the area with better products. I bought pedicure tools and they broke the next day after light use. If don't you want a cheap product, nasty attitudes, and horrible customer service then DON'T come here. read more

I've had a ton of awful experiences here buying wigs. I bought one for a last minute funeral after I took out my braids and told the ladies specifically what I was looking for. Long story short, the wig they sold me was not the one on display (they were closing so I didn't have a ton of tome to try it on) the cut the hair on the display wig, which they never told me. When I went back the next day they did nothing to help me out, they didn't even offer a discount on another wig OR to trim the wig I had bought. I was so upset, I was crying. No wig ive ever gotten here has been nice. I only come here for natural hair supplies and occasional makeup. Don't buy wigs here. read more

This review is for a wig I recently purchased and the service I received, which is why I'm giving them 3 stars. For hair products, I give them 5 stars. They have a wide range of hair products for relaxed and natural women. THE WIGS: To address those looking for costume wigs, this is NOT a costume wig place, though they have some units like that. The wigs they sell are for everyday wear. I purchased my first wig from here a few days ago. I came in with friends who were not there to purchase wigs and two of the employees were a bit rude to them once they realized they weren't there to buy wigs (though they did purchase some Marley braiding hair ). The woman who helped me was... not friendly, but she was fairly helpful. You have to purchase a $1 wig cap when trying on wigs, but if you purchase a wig, the cap is free. Unfortunately, you are only able to try on 5 wigs... which I find a little ridiculous. If I'm spending money on hair and products, I should be able to try on as many wigs as I would like. Thankfully, I found a wig I liked after a few tries. I ended up choosing my second choice wig, a full lace mid-back length synthetic unit made of futura fiber hair, for $89. Luckily for me they were having a 20% off everything sale that day, so at check out, I saved $20 on all my purchases. The wig that may have been my first choice, only came in one color, which was disappointing. They don't have as large of a wig selection as I would have liked to choose from, but I'm happy with my unit. It sheds a bit, but nothing too bad, and it can withstand heat up to 390 degrees. I've already thrown some curls in it without any problems. FINAL THOUGHTS: If you're looking for a wig to wear for a short time period, I recommend their synthetic futura units. You get what you pay for, and with the futura units, you can wash them and use heat on them (instructions are on the back of the wig box). Their human hair lace units ran for about $150 and up, so if you want something long term, I'd look into those. read more

I have mad amounts of love for this place & the women who run it. Reasonably priced, right down the street from my house and the peeps that own/work here, they KNOW black hair. It's crazy. They always give me wonderful commentary on the curls & they don't ask if it's real or fake, because they are just down with the sister's natural hair. I love it. I have asked misc. women what products they wear so I could copy them. Most don't really tell me anything useful; they just say "oh its natural" or that it's a weave..etc. But, here at Glamor Beauty.. they get real and they asked me questions about the chemicals I used and wa la.. I bought the entire Aphogee hair line of products. All reasonably priced!! Now, my hair is stronger and it's grown! They DO NOT accept exchanges or returns so, don't mess up when you buy..and if you do, keep it or give it away "no bringie back." My So Cal peeps come up just to buy the hair extensions from here since it's twice as pricey down in Los Angeles. Even folks who live hundreds of miles away love Glamor Beauty! read more

After shopping here for more than a decade, today I got harassed by the security guard, regarding my service dog. I was told that I had to pick up my dog, and that he didn't believe my dog is a service animal, because he wasn't wearing his service dog vest. This place is the motherlode of hair extensions and wigs. There is a whole wing dedicated to fake hair--walls are covered with mannequin heads with all kinds of hair styles from Barbarella to Lil' Kim, and between the walls are shelves upon shelves of extensions in all colors and textures. The rest of the store includes all kinds of weird brand hair care products and hair accessories, plus quite an amazing selection of African American hair products. I haven't tried any of the hair products (Uh, a gallon of hair gel? No thanks!), but their hair accessories are usually dollar store quality so it can be hit or miss. It's nice to be able to get a rattail comb and a wide tooth comb for a dollar each, but the package of hair elastics I got for a dollar might as well have been labeled "single use" because the elastic stretched right away. Still, it's fun to browse everything here and think of all the crazy coifs you can create with the tools and products. If you don't want to buy a whole package of scrunchies or alligator clips, there are huge baskets of loose ones in front of the register. I think the store employees are super paranoid about shoplifters. The first time we walked in and spent a long time looking at everything, the clerk followed us in the wig room; it was definitely not a helpful "do you have any questions?" kinda following. read more

I went to Glamor Beauty Supply yesterday on my way to acting class to get a wig to help me take on Anna Wintour character. I had a very good experience. The middle-aged lady who assisted me was personable and fun. I saw so many super nice real hair wigs, but I didn't want to invest the money in this wig for a one-night stand at class. I used to wear my hair that way and basically hated it. So I picked a synthetic, but it is very natural looking and high quality. I was having so much fun, I bought a second synthetic, medium long and wavy, in a dark color with highlights. I can see how this store could be addictive. I am going back soon, maybe for the real hair wig I fell in love with! And, btw, my one-night-stand Anna Wintour bob with bangs was a hit at class! I am going to continue to a wear it occasionally, it is fab! MY hair never turned out that good when I had the cut for real. read more

Great beauty supply. Amazing selection of pack hair and wigs both lace and not. Got a beautiful lace front synthetic wig for $50 most stores I see charging $100 for this wig. The sales people are super great! Of course you can't try a million wigs on I've never been to a beauty supply that lets you try more than 4-5 wigs on and rarely do they let you try on without buying a cap so idk why people are complaining about that! It was my first time coming here as I was referred by my hair stylist to purchase my extensions. A nice lady immediately helped me and found what I needed. I had concerns about the price ranges of the choices and she graciously pointed me out to a product that I can afford. I purchased the item and brought it to my stylist and it was the right kind. Knowing that I did not have to go back and do an exchange because they gave me exactly what I needed at a price that fit my budget was a life saver. I don't buy wigs for me, I buy them for work in films to use on actors. The staff let me run around for 2 hours, taking pictures, sending them to my clients to pick and look over, talking on the phone with them while I wandered around. They helped me out many times, went to search for different colors and helped me find a cheaper alternative for something once I started to make my final purchases, so I got two human hair wigs for so much cheaper than if I bought them online, plus the prices for extra weave and hair supplies were great. Thank you to Sandra (I hope I remembered your name right, I'm bad with that) and the rest of the staff who helped me out. No one ever made me feel watched. Honestly, since I had a lot of thinking to do and was searching around, they'd just leave me in the back to look around. I have bought two wigs from Glamour Beauty Supply. The first one was about five years ago. It was a short, pixie cut synthetic wig. It lasted about three weeks! When I took it back, John, (the manager at the time), refused to give me a refund, another wig or at least a discount on a new wig. He also implied that I had lied about how long I'd had the wig! I didn't shop with them again for five years. Fortunately, (I thought, John left the store). Recently I purchased eight packages of hair for crochet braiding. I asked for dark brown hair. The girl made a mistake and gave me four packages of black hair. I didn't realize the mistake until I got home! I went back to the store and exchanged the four packages of black hair. The girl didn't speak, just looked at me, nor did she apologize for her mistake. After wasting money and gas because of them, I will NEVER SHOP THERE AGAIN!!! read more

Huge selection of items specifically for black hair, but they have stuff for any type of hair. This has been my secret location for gel/pomade/men's hair styling products since the 90's. This place is my go-to for all wigs now. I am a costumer/cosplayer and wig fanatic and I have never found a shop in all of California with better selection, better staff, and better prices. Even when I am in here with my very opinionated and temperamental godmother (which is often), who makes a ton of demands of the staff, they are super nice and helpful and work very hard for the sale. I don't think I have ever left this place without at least one wig, sometimes 3-4 (yes, I am obsessed.) All in all I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone who wants to get a wig. And I do! Hence, why I am writing here. Especially good for first timers, since they will walk you through the process and even trim the bangs on your wig to frame your face better.
