I had a very disappointing experience here. I came in hoping for a clean, professional haircut, but the result was honestly terrible. The cut felt rushed, uneven, and not at all what I asked for. I left feeling upset and embarrassed, which is the last thing you expect after going to a salon. What made it worse is that I did not feel like my concerns were really heard. A haircut is something you have to live with every day, and this one will take a long time to grow out and fix. I booked this place based on the reviews. I'm not sure what people are talking about but all I have to say is I've never left a salon with my hair such a mess in my life. I should've known as I sat there and waited my turn all the hair that was embedded in the mirrors and tables that could've been cleaned with a blow dryer, come on get it together. I went for a consultation and when I asked questions Lana became snippy with me as if I wasn't paying attention. It is my hair by the way, Lana. I explained to her my hair has been toned for months and I needed to get the red out. She gave me two options, bleach the hair three times or we start with highlights. I went for the highlights since I didn't want extreme damage to my hair. She highlighted and then did a toner. She starts to dry and now my hair is pink. The gentleman that works there could see something was wrong so he offered his assistance. He said he has a product that will remove the color. Why didn't Lana do that first? But instead she put highlights and then expected miracles to happen. The gentleman then told Lana put the color remover and then tone, shampoo and condition. I'm not sure how much toner she put but the highlights that she initially did were now gone and covered and my hair was still reddish purple. Lana said just wash your hair with clarifying shampoo everyday for the next two months then come back for more. Yeah, that's not happening! The best part is she charged me extra for the toner she used on me. I asked for a mask since I knew my hair was going to be needing some repair. I went in there for five hours and left paying $130.00!!! I will never ever come back here and I should've known by the client she had before me that she diffused her hair and she left the salon looking like a drowned rat. Instead of burning my hair with bleach, like many other careless hairstylists have done in the past, Lana used a golden color for my highlights. I'm so glad I tried this place!!! I called just after 6pm today asking if there was availability for a hair color at 7pm and she told me to come in when I could and that she would get me in. I showed Lana a picture of me with dark hair from a few years ago (needed to cover up the grays) and she matched it perfectly. She was so kind and thorough. She really took her time making sure every inch was covered. I apologized for it taking so long (she was supposed to close at 8pm but I was still there until 8:30) and she said it was no problem and she didn't mind staying late to make sure everything was perfect. I highly recommend this place. I live in the neighborhood and stumbled across it a couple of weeks ago while I was out and about. It's been almost a YEAR (oops) since I got my last haircut. I called ahead and Lana said "come right in!" Just look at the pictures, haircut is terrible, I got butchered. Once again she proved why I only get my hair cut once a year, is it me? Or is it them? I try to blow it out, and even then haircut is choppy and uneven all over. I'm 6 months pregnant and she removed so much volume and turned my hair into choppy layers that make no sense. It says this place is open every day. Park slope is the hardest neighborhood in the area in which to park. Well, I came to check it out on a Monday at 4 PM and wasted my time. The place was closed. The sign says it is open Monday-Friday 12-7 and other times on Saturday and Sunday. So I called the phone number there. A woman answered. She barely understood basic English, asking what I want when I repeated that it is closed. She said she is not open on Mondays although a first I actually heard, "I am open Monday." I mentioned the sign saying it has Monday to Friday hours. Her answer was, "That's what I chose." Did she choose to have false information on her sign? Or did she mean she chose to be closed and not understand what I was saying? How will she do business like this? read more

I got a Groupon for this place and left a comment there, which I think is pretty objective and descriptive of what happened. Lana's response was full of lies and xenophobia, but I can't answer her back on Groupon, so I decided to move it to Yelp so people would know about the whole thing. This was my original comment on Groupon: "I had a bittersweet experience at Lana's. I visited her salon, and she was aware I was a Groupon client. The first thing she said was I had a lot of hair -- something I am well aware of, as well as how damaged my hair was due to not getting a haircut during the pandemic. She was respectful about how much to cut and how I wanted my haircut to be, and she was a perfectionist, which I always like. I like the haircut she gave me. However, after she was done, she told me she had to charge me $10 extra because of my hair volume. I said that wasn't the deal, and she replied it says in the Groupon there might be additional charges (which I double-checked and it's not true). She said she had very high taxes -- but we all do, don't we? I ended up paying not to fight and I told myself it was a very generous tip, but I felt (and feel) it was unfair. People who get Groupons are often unemployed/low income (like me), and this is just not good customer service. Also, people who offer Groupons should own it and be honest about it. After all, it is a way to find new clients, but I won't be one, that's for sure. I don't think she should charge more without saying it first (on the Groupon page or in-person). Also, does she charge $10 less to people with less hair than average? I don't think so." And now, Lana's response: "unbelievable, she has hair till her butt and thick like for 3 people, did not live any tip or taxes, that's why i asked her to pay me for extra work . Europeans don't like to tip at all. SHAME on you for being so greedy" I have to say her answer didn't totally surprise me -- after all, the first conversation we had was she trashing the client who just left because of being "too annoying" and asking for things for her hair. That's when I realized the customer service wasn't that great at Lana's, and that the lack of glamour was obvious. Anyway, I am going to reply to Lana's message point by point: - My hair wasn't "till my butt", but it reached the middle of my back. That's simply a lie. - I do have a lot of hair, as I said in my original review, but if she has prices for different hair volume/length, it should be specified in the Groupon, as other businesses do. - About the xenophobic remarks (this did surprise me because she's also foreign), it is true I am European, but I live in the US and I follow the cultural and social rules, and I was going to tip 10% based on the original price, as Groupon recommends. However, she didn't give me the chance to do it, because she asked for the extra $10 as soon as I got up from the chair. I obviously didn't tip on top of that extra charge she made up. I have never experienced such HORRIBLE customer service, badmouthing another client, asking me for more money than the amount agreed, and then calling me greedy, lying, and using xenophobic slurs. I originally gave her 3 stars on Groupon because, as I said, I did like the haircut, but I didn't enjoy the obscure extra charges and her behavior. So after her message, I'm going down to 2 stars. read more

I noticed Lana's grand opening sign while walking down 5th and decided to support a new local biz. I had been growing out a pixie cut for a few months and requested an undercut with some fluff on top via Pinterest photo. Getting my haircut was like watching an artist at work! Lana took her time to make sure every detail was perfect from adding a subtle fade around my ears to properly texturing the fluff on top. I asked her "what do you enjoy more, cutting hair or styling it?" and she said "both!" without hesitation. Good answer! This salon provides an excellent service for prices that compete with your boyfriend's barber. If I ever decide to grow out my hair I'm sure Lana will be my go-to choice for whatever I have in mind.
