This was one of the strangest and least professional salon experiences of my life. Upon walking in into an otherwise empty salon I was ignored for nearly 5 minutes before the owner finally tore herself away from a riveting conversation she was having with a man-friend. She asked me to have a seat...and proceeded to shoot the shit while I waited. My appointment was scheduled for 3:10. I walked in at 3:15. At 3:27 something in her brain must have clicked and she finally said "alright, let's get you shampooed!" Her conversation went on while she washed my hair and she stopped briefly only to half-hardheartedly inquire into what I'd like done. I explained to her that my hair stylist is booked for a while and I'd just like to correct the horrible butchering job I did on my bangs as well as trim off the dead ends of my bob. Nothing more. As she continued her yapping with her friend, she chopped 5 hairs off the back of my head and declared the hair cut finished. I asked her if she can even out my bangs to which she responded -- "if you want." What? No, I'm just asking because I'm curious about your abilities? In retrospect, I wish that was the case! She managed to screw up cutting bangs! I didn't ask for Bettie Page style bangs thankyouverymuch. Shouldn't cutting bangs be a part of haircuts 101? After cutting my bangs she begun to blow dry my hair but I noticed that she wasn't blowing it out. At this point I'm wondering what the hell she's doing when she pulls out a flat iron. THIS WOMAN DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO BLOW OUT A BOB? She flat irons my fine short hair into an odd mushroom-like monstrosity, charges me $30 and forgets to say "have a nice day." My husband actually laughed upon seeing my new hairdo and he's oblivious when it comes to haircuts. My brother asked me why my hair looks so dirty. In the back my hair shape looks like a damn penis head. To be fair, after I washed, dried, and styled my hair at home it did not look that horrible anymore. It really sucks when you get your hair cut by someone you like and then they leave the salon and you can't track them down. (Sometimes all the people left aren't so great) It happens all the time, and for some reason I had a hard time finding another cheap place to get my hair cut in Bay Ridge. I happened to walk past LSM on my way to go grocery shopping at Food Town. I stopped there because the sign in the window said "All haircuts $20" Sold! Linda (owner) was able to cut my hair later that same day. She's a really nice lady and pretty chatty (whether or not you like that is up to you). Most importantly, she's very good at her job. I brought in a photo of a new cut I wanted to try and she talked to me about how to cut it so it will grow out well. She told me what she was going to do before she did it ("I'm going to take a little more off the front, is that ok?"), which some hairdressers sadly do not do. I had the nice combined feeling of being in control of the situation but also being in good hands. When you're a female who likes her hair very short, you often get a lot of guff from stylists who want to change your mind entirely. What she did turned out really cute and I went back a month later for a trim. It's coming along really great. I think there are only two stylists: the owner and one other woman. The place is really small and clean with a nice aesthetic. They also have a seat shaped like a car to do kids cuts. I would highly recommend it. Linda, the owner, has cut my hair a number of times now. Every picture I bring her she replicates precisely and quickly. She is fantastic at what she does and the $20 cut is a price that can't be beat. I've had tons of haircuts that cost upwards of 10x as much and haven't felt as happy with my hair afterward. Additionally, they are very kid-friendly. Linda has always been very sweet about the fact that I usually have to bring my toddler daughter & when she has enough hair I will be bringing her to Debbie who is fantastic at children's cuts. read more

I was searching on Yelp for a salon in Bay Ridge that was affordable, and stumbled upon "LSM." Great reviews AND only $20 for a haircut!? That was exactly what I was looking for! Linda (the owner) was very friendly, and was great at replicating what kind of a cut I was describing to her. She has been in the hair cutting and/or manufacturing business for many years, and clearly has a natural talent for it. "LSM" has definitely now become "my" salon! The one thing that I do need to mention here is that she does not accept credit cards, and as of Sept. 1st, 2010, haircuts have gone up to $30. I believe she takes "walk-ins," but since she is the only one there, with the exception of an occasional assistant, I would recommend making an appt. read more

After my childhood place closed up when I was 13, I had been going to random hair salons on 86th Street in Bensonhurst. The hair cuts were decent, the prices cheap and free massage. I decided to try something new though because I had wanted something short and complicated and the few times I asked that at my old places tended to sometimes get lost in translation. My hair came out awesome here and for once it grew out nice and a lot better than it did from other haircuts in the other places. 30 bucks was twice as much as I usually pay but it was worth it. I called LSM Saturday morning needing an appointment that day for an event later on that day and Linda (the Owner) was friendly and fit me in within an hour or so. (which is lovely). I had my hair cut and styled and Linda was nice and talked to me in an easy way about how I wanted my hair cut and gave excellent suggestions in a non scary way. I am so pleased with my haircut and will DEFINITELY go back. She also gave me a few a handy tips on some ways to get my fine hair to perk up. On a side note, I am not from NY and asked about places to visit and Linda told me all about the various Brooklyn street Festivals. This lady is fabulous and won't steer you wrong with the hair cut/style or in recommendations for where to visit in NY. Update: Price of a haircut is now $30, and so worth it. read more

I had a very good experience at this salon too, and Linda cut my hair as well, I believe she's the owner. I was sorely in need of some hair TLC after neglecting it for months and to be honest wasn't expecting much for $20 - but Linda did a nice job with the cut! She's a great listener and addresses any concerns or questions you might have, which is awesome. I had my hair cut into long layers and it grew out really nice. LSM Salon is the best! Linda is wonderful and has the best prices in Bay Ridge! I have taken a chance on various salons in the past to try and save money and have paid the price with a horrible hair cut. This place is more than worth the money!!! Just got off the phone with an incredibly rude woman who kept asking "Who do you want to schedule an appointment with?!" multiple times after I said that I could be scheduled with anyone. After repeating what I said, she told me that she couldn't take me and that I'd have to call another business for my appointment. Then she hung up on me. Linda cut my husband coarse curly hair, which I love just the way it is but lately he was looking like sponge bob. We got there on Saturday when she was finishing up a client. She was about to close but was kind enough to take us. (Blessings!) My husband hair cut cost 30 dollars and she did a wonderful job and he looks so handsome as he is already. I thank Linda for this. She asks if it's ok to cut certain parts before she makes the move, which I really appreciated, since I wear my hair short so every snip is noticeable. I just got my hair cut here today. I needed something last minute and after calling a couple other places, they were able to see me right away. I had Christine(a?) and loved her. I have very thick tricky hair and she right away made great suggestions as to how to shape it and remove some bulk. She was very easy to chat with (We're both in our 20s, so like making a new friend). She did a great job in the end. Did a real nice blow out. And it was only $30! Can't beat that! (They are cash only, so just plan ahead) I will most definitely be a repeat customer here. read more

After years of spending a fortune on my hair in Manhattan, I met Linda at a party, and finally made the switch after a not good haircut at an exorbitant price in the City. I am so glad I made the change! Linda consulted with me about what I wanted, made suggestions for my shape face and type of hair and then proceeded to give me a fab haircut at a fraction of the price I've been paying. She was able to "fix" the problems of the previous bad haircut and I am now a fan. I plan to have her do my color too so I'm a very happy customer...now just have to get the husband away from that barber!! read more

She continued to speak rudely and abruptly. The time she had available wouldn't work for me. I said I might call back next week and asked about price. She hung up on me. Why answer the phone at all? I scheduled an appointment with this salon for a haircut based solely on the wonderful reviews on Yelp. I arrived for my appointment only to be told that she was running an hour late. I did not receive an apology. There was a lady under a dryer and another which had just started to get her hair cut. When I mentioned that it would have been thoughtful if she had called to let me know of the delay, she didn't say anything. I guess she has too much business and doesn't need mine. read more

Very unprofessional. I'm not the type of person that needs to be waited on hand and foot in a salon. And I don't like ritzy, uptight salons either. That's why I came here. But this was too unprofessional. I walked in and stood there for 5 minutes before the owner even acknowledged me, and there was only one other person in the salon! Also, the stylists dog was running around in the salon! How weird! After I sat down the experience got a little better, and the owner warmed up to me a little bit. I got the quick keratin, which did absolutely nothing to my hair, if anything my hair frizzes up more now, than it did before. Not happy. read more

Totally agree with IsanaG's review. I had nearly the same experience there...probably even worse. The salon was completely empty the entire time I was there, too. Now I know why. I went for a root touch up, trim and blow dry. The owner bragged about her experience doing shows and demonstrating products for hair product companies. I thought I had hit the jackpot. I don't know what was worse, the flat, dull, opaque color, the weird trim, or the ridiculous" blow dry". She insisted on coloring my entire hair instead of just the roots because she said the color was uneven. Since she claimed to be a master colorist , I let her. I have thick, shoulder length, coarse hair. Everyone sections it and uses a brush to dry it. Not Linda. When I saw my hair blowing out into a ball of frizz the size of a weather balloon, I told her she needed to use a brush and section it. I was told that she never uses a brush to blow dry. She then used a flat iron on my entire head even though I had just had the color done. No one has ever needed to use a flat iron to style my hair. I don't know if hair usually sizzles when a flat iron is used, but mine actually did. My hair which was pretty healthy and shiny before, now looks damaged and dull. Any highlights that were there are completely blotted out. This salon looks like it's going out of business. And it probably should. If there was a way to give 0 stars to this place, I would have done so. Stay away! read more
