When we were emailing around to get quotes he responded promptly, and out of all of the painting companies we talked to he was the only one that was really able to answer our questions. I hate to write a bad review, but had to report my experience. I called the company for an estimate based upon great yelp reviews and reviews on Angie's List. Mr. Abate was very prompt in getting back to me for an estimate. I took off the day from work to let him see what needs to be done and he arrived on time. After the initial visit, I thought I would get an estimate in a few days, a week at the latest. However, I got no estimate. After a week, I emailed Mr. Abate after the holiday, thinking that it's a busy time for families and to take that into consideration. He replied, stating that he would get the estimate to me the following day. I told him to take his time, thinking that another week would be the maximum time that I would have to wait. Unfortunately, it's been about a month, and I still haven't received an estimate. I didn't bother reminding him again because I can take a hint. That's fine, if you don't want to do a job, just let the potential client know, so we can find someone else. I wanted to get the paint job done before some medical considerations and even getting to this point was a big deal for me due to some health issues, but I will have to delay a new paint job for a few months now because of the delay in getting the estimate back. read more

100% satisfied! Anthony was very responsive to my initial inquiry (unlike some others), as well as to our follow-up email exchanges. We had a pretty small job (my husband's bathroom), but it needed some repair work in addition to the painting since we'd had the sheet mirror that came with the unit torn down so we could replace it with a framed mirror. Anthony sent Eddie, who showed up exactly when he was supposed to, was incredibly nice (even to our overly-friendly dog) and got the job done perfectly and within record time. We had friends over for drinks the other night and my husband kept wanting to show them his beautiful new bathroom. Oh yes, and the pricing on this job was extremely competitive. I called up Glen Ellyn Restoration after a sump pump in our basement failed and filled up our entire basement with water. Robert was on the spot within 1 hour, emptying the water our of our home. Our basement was outdated, so we decided to remove the carpet and use the opportunity to update the space. In the process, we determined our insurance would cover the furnace and water heater, which were mildly affected by the water. Robert had a new water heater and furnace installed for us within two days of the flood. The basement was dried out with dehumidifiers and fans and emptied of debris by the time the new furnace and water heater were installed. Within two weeks, we had a new basement, complete with new flooring, and fresh paint. Not bad considering we were looking at 1.5" of water in our basement not too long earlier. Summary: we had our furnace, water heater, sump pump replaced, and a backup sump pump system installed. Our basement has new flooring, trim, cabinets, and paint. All within two weeks. I hired Anthony based on those amazing reviews. It is true, he totally set up the expectations very high, and after trying to tackle the painting myself, I decided to go with professionals. We just bought a beautiful recently built modern house that we want to freshen up. He is very easy to reach and has a very professional and attractive business manner. I was not impressed with his team and the quality of their work. First, they took twice as long as it was promised. I was trying to be accommodating and not put hard time constraints on his team since I knew they had other projects going on. Even with this flexibility, the project management was not ideal. First they were supposed to paint the doors and let them dry overnight. They ended up painting the doors and putting them in the same day when they were still semi wet. The door frame was also painted after the doors were up which came out very sloppy and messed up the hinges. Since the guy who was supposed to paint 2 door frames and trims and a window trim showed up at 3:30pm in Friday night, and left at 5:30pm, he didn't have enough time to do it properly. I told Anthony that they need more time to do it properly, but he said they don't have any more budget to spend on our house since it already took longer than he expected. He actually ended up staying till 7:30pm that night trying to fix it himself and make us happy. The window trim as a result got much better, but not as expected. Nevertheless, after spending 2.5k on the project we still have dirty hinges and cranks, running paint stains, holes in the wood, uneven wood surfaces. We called Anthony Abate painting to get a estimate on having our family room, kitchen and foyer repainted...including all ceilings and trim.. Our initial meeting was with anthony. Anthony can sell ice cubez to an eskimo, He is a very good salesman, well mannered and very knowledgeable. He sent sent us a complete estimate with every detail of the job broke down and priced out.. Unfortunately we ran into some car trouble and had to put our project on hold. A year had past and we finally were able to move foward on our project,..so we called Abate painting back in for another estimate... When the person showed up to do it,.to our surprise, it was not Anthony but i guess a guy who claims to be his brother in law came to do the estimate. This guy definitely was not very educated about paint or the process of whats entailed to do the job. The situation kinda made me think Anthony needed to get his brother inlaw off the bar stool and out to work so he gave him a job.. Nice enough guy, really..but he himself is not what I'm about to complain about, it's what he did.... NOTHING! He left our house with the promise that he would be sending an estimate for our paint job "in the next few days"... So we waited... And waited And waited.. Finaly we started to call to see why we havent heard back from him..and still nothing? So our next move was to call Anthony and see what the deal was...i was very nice woth message i left for him, and still...nothing? No reply, no answer, no explanation, not even a fuck you we dont need your work..Nothing! So after my wife i talked about our meeting with the guy, we realized what it was... We mentioned we seen some negative reviews on yelp..but were gonna give them the benefit of the doubt and go with them anyway. He was very polite and thankful we were willing to do that. His response to the negative reviews was of course " some people you just cant make happy" Well, he doesnt have to worry about making us happy,..because when he walk out our door after waisting a bunch of our time, he had no intension what so ever to do the work in our house or even have common decency to tell us to go get fucked! Quick service, great communication... however, quite pricey. We were in a rush to get 80 percent of our house painted on a short deadline and he was able to get it done, fast. There are some parts that i feel were a tad messy and that i'll have to clean up myself but overall, i cant really complain. I had the opportunity to at the final walk through and didn't. One major complaint that i do have is that during the estimate, Anthony came to our house and went on a room to room walk through on what was done. Not once did he mention that there was a limit on colors for the 8 room we were having done. He basically told me the next day (after i sent him 8 colors) that i was going to have to limit my colors or there would be an additional charge (that he'd split with me). I even double checked the contract and it said NOTHING about limiting color choices. The two guys he did send out to do the job were professional and courteous. Overall really nice guys and worked from the minute they got there till the minute they left. I wouldnt say NOT to use them... just question anything you have concerns about and maybe get a couple other estimates to price match. read more

Anthony was very professional, gave a quote that broke down costs like I asked. The place looks amazing now! And they were able to finish it in a timely manner as well. Although the rooms this company finished turned out fine, they did not finish several parts of the project. Unfortunately, I had already made my payment and they never finished the remaining projects. They also left one ceiling "marred" and unsightly and are not taking responsibility to correct the problem. I contacted them multiple times to remedy these issues but my messages were ignored; very unprofessional! Make sure you look at the estimate carefully and discuss what is being painted as they "nickeled and dimmed" in each major area. Time for the whole project was substantially beyond what was projected. Retain your payment until everything is done! read more

My biggest regret with Abate is that I didn't fire them in the beginning of our project when the painter almost painted the wrong color on the house. I had to micro-manage our entire project from beginning to end and what was supposed to be a 2 day project lasted one month, yes that's right, one month. To top it off, my back yard was used to store their equipment for a week after the job was completed and a piece of window trim that was used to match a color was never returned and now that they have payment they don't return phone calls. I hired Anthony Abate to paint my entire condo, minus the interior closets, in March 2014. Less than 24 hours after Anthony and his partner said they were done, I notified Anthony of several issues. Second coats were not done or poorly done in 5 of the 6 main rooms. Anthony never came back to fix the problems, much less see in person what the issues were. I texted and emailed MANY times, but he never came back like he promised. Anthony soon explained, via email, that he was rushed to the hospital with "walking ammonia" and doctor's orders were to be on bedrest for like two weeks. Anthony obviously did not recall that I am a RN and there is no way someone is rushed to the ER with this diagnosis. Also- you would never be put on bedrest for walking PNEUMONIA. I take care of the elderly- many of them with pneumonia- and NEVER has their physician ordered bedrest. Anthony did not have a problem collecting his money the day his crew left. Anthony does have a problem with being professional and fixing his mistakes. I am posting pictures, all dated 4/14- one month after Anthony left the job. The poorly executed second wall coats do not show well with my camera, but I invite anyone to see it in person if you contact me through YELP. Please be sure to ask any painter to stop the job and tell you when they are about to apply the second coat. And I would not recommend leaving the workers alone. Always supervise- you're paying for it and it's your home. read more

Abate Painting just finished job yesterday on our house: 2 hallways, kitchen, dining room, living room. Overall great experience. Secured free quote, which was competitive and timely. Good communication in setting up the 2 - 2.5 day job. We're perfectionists over here, and they met our expectations. Job ended up taking about 1.75 days, and each day they were on time, professional and working the entire time other than a lunch break. Patched and sanded more than I had previously identified. Did the job per contract, and even painted one wall a second time via their own volunteering because it didn't look just right. Really worked hard on the floor/ceiling cuts and did a nice job there as well. Tony and his team were also consistently neat, clean, professional and responsive to any item we wanted corrected, throughout the job and during the final walk-through. They consistently taped, tarped, vacuumed and cleaned during the entire job. Tony is very personable yet stays on task. I worked the entire 1,75 days while they were here and periodically checked in, but let them have their space to go at. Worked out well. Highly recommended Abate Painting. Highly recommended. We purchased a home that from top to bottom did not meet my color palette tastes. The home has a two-story foyer/great room, needed wallpaper removal, some wallpaper applications, and a banister/spindles/catwalk area I was dying to redo as well... so a professional was certainly in order. We consulted with a couple painters before deciding on Abate after one meeting with Anthony. Anthony is very responsive, helpful, and knowledgeable. I emailed with several questions after booking regarding finishes, color choices, etc. and he was always helpful. He responds to emails quickly and in evenings/weekends as well. He certainly holds the expectations for his painters at a very high level, as he checked in on the job periodically and allowed me to add/change as the project developed. One thing I really liked was a thorough and itemized project overview, which has warranties and fixed prices. It also includes ALL materials, which is awesome. They use Ben Moore and I thought the prices were very fair. No payment is due until completion and satisfaction, which I thought spoke volumes as well about ensuring costumer satisfaction. Our job took longer than projected, but I prefer that to a rushed job just to get more clients in. I was most impressed with the final walk-thru (today) Anthony came to check all the work and brought a painter with to touch-up as requested. He marked several places himself that he wanted touched up (places we overlooked), and he grabbed a can and brush to touch-up as well. That shows the high standard to which he upholds the work. I know if anything comes up, he'll send someone. That type of business is one you should book! We plan to be in touch with this business for kitchen cabinet refinishing (several options through Abate) and once our girls are older to redo the stairs without carpet. Anthony's company here is by far the best painting company I've worked with. I purchased a new home and replaced all the carpet with hardwood. This meant I needed to have all the quarter-rounds and baseboards painted. I also needed front door repainted as it had some rust. Anthony came out and treated me like a valued customer despite my job wasn't as 'big' as some other jobs. He gave me a very good value and his painters did a wonderful job. There was one issue with the front door showing rust again. Once I contacted Anthony about it, he fixed the situation right away by sending someone on a Sunday to repaint.
