Tried out this place based on the high Yelp ratings plus proximity in Echo Park after my regular smog check spot was temporarily out of order and it's excellent. Peter was very professional and friendly, even as my '95 Saturn failed an initial test. Mostly wearing a mask and always distanced (we're still in a pandemic here), he explained the issues in depth and what I should do in general to repair it, which had to be elsewhere as this is a "test only" station. He just charged me half of the bill ($39.99), which was a nice gesture. After getting a basic tune up, I called ahead and came back for a second test after driving a bit on the freeway to warm up the engine. It failed again on the 25mph hydrocarbon metric. Peter didn't charge me at all for this re-test. This seems above-and-beyond to me, rather than a charge for each test, regardless of pass/fail. He also pointed out that a formal smog repair facility is what's needed now. Once I got the old catalytic converter replaced over at Bussard's, per that other great shop's recommendation, I called ahead to make sure he wasn't busy, as it's a small space in a shared garage. My car passed with a great score and he was even delighted to explain the results. I paid the remainder ($39.99), he sent the results right away to the DMV, and it's been all good to go. This will be my new go-to spot when I need to do this again every two years. read more

I called ahead of time to gauge availability, and they were totally free at 3pm on a Monday! The guy who worked on my car was super nice and had everything set up by the time I pulled in so it felt really efficient! I got lost on the way there and actually passed it and went to the neighboring wolf auto shop, and it took me a while to find my way back to this one since it was kind of tucked away so I missed it the first time :( So just be on the lookout as you get near it so you turn into the right driveway!
