(Visited 01/12/13 SA @ 12pm): A childhood playground revisited many years later as it springs my youthfulness. Over the glen and through some oaks, a friend had her baby shower at Glenoaks Park, located in the bucolic neighborhood of Glenoaks/Scholl Canyon in the Jewel City of Glendale. It's been nearly a couple decades since I last came to this park, and another half-decade before that when I last attended the local elementary school. As much as the neighborhood has changed with remodeled homes, foliage scaled back, and more cars found along the winding street of Glenoaks Blvd., the park barely had any work done. Sure, an expanded and more contemporary jungle gym area for kids was installed, a quaint sitting alcove area at one corner of the park along the main road created, the excessive rust on the fences scrubbed away, and the sharp flaked paint chips sanded off and coated over...but otherwise, still the same as I remembered it! :o) In addition to some of the amenities mentioned, there was an enclosed basketball and tennis court (didn't happen to notice any lights, though), plenty of grassy area - both shaded and non-shaded, a mini paved walk path, an event facility, and smack-dab in the middle of a safe neighborhood. The baby shower took place in the spacious Joe Bridges Clubhouse, which can be rented for special events such as this. The facility held about 100 people, came with many banquet tables and sturdy folding chairs, and a fully functioning kitchen for any food preparation and storage. Of course, the facility had restrooms, and I loved the vented floor heaters! The service was non-existent; it's a park for goodness sake! Parking was ample although it's all along the surrounding streets. There is no dedicated lot or structure, but there were no meters or permitted areas to worry yourself with. Again, the neighborhood was extremely safe and family-oriented. Overall, my visit to Glenoaks Park was a welcomed walk down memory lane as I saw images of myself throughout my youth from t-ball and tennis practice, horsing around with friends, relaxing under a shaded tree, and late-night underage drinking. A warm feeling came over me when I saw how well-kept the park was as well as the neighborhood as a whole. I found complete value as there was no need for money, and anytime you can find a nice place to relax and take your kids to, you can't go wrong. The atmosphere was outdoorsy (obviously!); you're in a park! The attire was totally casual, so you'd normally find me in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops (it was a brisk wintry 52 degrees so I was actually in a beanie, fleece, pants, and shoes. And there's nothing to pay for, so it didn't matter if they accepted my credit card of choice...AMEX!

Great little park. There's a sandbox, a nice little enclosed play yard, a basketball court and a tennis court, the bathrooms are clean and close by and in the summer they have that cute little wading pool for kids which is great. The neighborhood is cute and seems pretty safe.

Smaller play set for toddlers at Glenoaks Park.

Great place to take a toddler. With two big jungle gyms and swings, you can't go wrong!

I really love this garden but today I brought my service dog with me. She was wearing her service…read moredog vest and the guy at the entrance said "no dogs are allowed" despite her wearing a vest that clearly said "service dog". I then told him that she's a service animal and he asked what task she performs as is customary. But once I said her task, he laughed at me and said he had never heard of a dog who "does that". I told him I have a disability that requires her and he eventually let me in. But he had an overall negative rude condescending demeanor and didn't seem to like working there. This was highly triggering for me and actually triggered my CPTSD because it never feels great to have your disability or needs not taken seriously. Not everyone's disability is visible and for it to be laughed at felt very insensitive. It makes me not wanna go there that much in the future now because I know it's always gonna be triggering for me if that worker is there. I couldn't relax the whole time I was there cause I felt so distressed by this.

We went to a fourth birthday party at Dunsmore Park and it was a great place to spend a Sunday…read moreafternoon with several small children. We took two of our own and we all had a lovely time. Parking was easy, in a lot right near the playground. There were a few parties going on but the park was small enough that we had no trouble finding the right one. The park was great, well kept and inviting. Even the bathroom wasn't bad--I generally avoid park bathrooms but had to attend Leo, and this one wasn't disgusting. The playground was nice and our four-year-old Leo B. enjoyed himself running around the play structure. I liked that the party was set up at tables close to the playground, so we didn't have to spend the whole party fighting our child's desire to run and climb. He also liked being at the party, especially when the piñata came out. Our toddler had a good time, too, and took a little nap in his stroller after a walk on the smooth concrete path winding through the park grounds. We live pretty far from La Crescenta, so we won't be spending too much time here, but I really liked Dunsmore Park. It worked well as a party venue and was just an all-around pleasant place for a weekend family outing. We'd make good use of it if we were in the neighborhood.
