As a local, I had never had a reason to stay in a nearby hotel, but this looked charming and that was what I needed. Somewhere welcoming and cozy. Well..... it was cozy. Welcoming, not so much. Because I'd booked last minute via a third party, apparently they hadn't yet received my reservation. I walked in the front door, (it was unlocked), and then wandered down a small hallway until I saw a sign for "Reception," (there is no one to greet you as you walk in). The "reception" is tucked away around a corner of the kitchen. So, I wandered in there and was immediately admonished I should not be there, and rather coldly asked if I had a reservation. The woman also commented, more to herself than to me, that the front door should've been locked. Not my fault or problem. ANYway, once she finally did find my reservation, and realize I was there legitimately, she said that the room wasn't ready, (it was 5pm), and she'd have to make it up. That wasn't a problem for me, I waited in the living room area and helped myself to the wine and cheese, which was nice. She also, for the record, brought a small heater to my room when I asked if there was a way to turn down the air-conditioning, (it was centrally controlled, and turned off at sunset, so that was fine.) Also on the plus side, the location is nice, the bed was very comfortable, and hot water very hot, (which I greatly appreciated). But the place is showing its wear. There was a light on one side of the bed, but looked like the one that had been on the other had been removed (see pic). And there were small stains on the wall above the toilet. It could use a refresh, especially for almost $400/night. The breakfast which some rave about, was rather lackluster. All cold -- hard boiled eggs, some granola, fruit, hard bagels. I mean, it's ok, but there was nothing hot, and nothing to write home about. Maybe I hit a day when the cook was off? Finally, this review would've been four stars, but for the fact that when I went to check out I was again treated with the same cold and rather put out attitude(?) I asked if I could please get a copy of my receipt and was told it would be emailed to me later in the afternoon (?) Because I needed to turn this into the mgt company, I really wanted to make sure I got it, so I tried to explain my situation, (again no response to the reason I was there), and she quite reluctantly offered to print it out for me. Truly, there's a weird vibe to this place. Almost like you'd somehow wandered into someone else's home and they're annoyed to have you there. Maybe it was just my odd circumstances that made it so, but if the hot water ever goes out in my apartment again, I won't be returning.

I was ill from not eating, the stressed of the day, the sadness of our loss of our 4-legged family member and car sickness. We arrived in quite a distressed state and needed sleep. When we arrived, we were greeted by Ele. She got us checked in and prepared a dish of crackers, cucumber and orange to address my car sickness. It worked like a charm. She set mom up with a glass of wine and a dish for the charcuterie table. This woman is an angel. The ambiance of the whole place was quiet and relaxing. Sitting by the fireplace looking out at the rain. I was here on work assignment. But Ele and her crew made it the best stay. The rooms are so that they are welcoming Iike home. Entering the room for the first time, we were welcomed with homemade cookies and very comfortable beds. This place is so close to everything. The beach, restaurants, nightlife and shopping. But tucked away. The beauty of the surroundings. The warmth and welcoming atmosphere. The peaceful music and quietness. The smells of baking and rosemary in the yard. The delicious breakfasts and afternoon wine and charcuterie. Every sense was pleased. The whole experience was fabulous. I arrived EARLY after taking the overnight Amtrak train from Tucson. A quick Uber ride took me to the hotel where I was greeted by the front desk staff. It is an appreciated security protocol that you need to scan a room key to enter between 12am-6am. I made myself comfy in the lobby until the free continental breakfast opened at 6:30am, with much needed caffeine and solid options to suit my plant-based diet. I instantly realized that this hotel attracts a wide variety of travelers from around the world and enjoyed conversations with guests from Australia, Sri Lanka and all over the USA. There are a few casual multi-purpose spaces which served me well during this visit, offering me a quiet space to work, read and meet with colleagues. It is also walking distance from my company's office, the subway and several other hotel and restaurant venues that we visited during our stay in LA. (Oh and the 460 bus to Disneyland even picks up right around the corner!) The general manager Sy is an absolute gem! Personable and attentive, he really made our group feel welcome and was available for anything we needed. Top notch customer service which extends to the rest of the staff. I had the most beautiful room with so many thoughtful touches! Clean and comfortable with cool artwork, a big window that actually opens, a Nespresso machine (that I never used because the coffee in the breakfast room was so good & convenient), iphone docking station/speaker, mood lighting, a mini-fridge (perfect for keeping a few vegan snacks and drinks handy), a great workstation with reliable internet, sustainable and gender-neutral bath products and a super comfy bed! This hotel honestly felt like a home away from home and allowed me the ease and flexibility I needed to thrive during my busy and fun trip to LA! I was first assigned Room 300, but unfortunately, the room had a very strong and unpleasant odor that smelled moldy or musty. The walls appeared dirty, the room looked run-down, and the air conditioning was barely blowing cold air. I was then moved to Room 302, but unfortunately, I experienced essentially the same issues. There was again a strong odor, the room appeared poorly maintained, and the air conditioning was not adequately cooling the room. I was eventually moved to Room 500, which was by far the best of the three rooms. The odor was significantly better and, thankfully, the air conditioning actually worked properly. However, having to go through three different rooms before finding one that was reasonably comfortable was extremely frustrating. I also want to point out that, as a Wyndham Diamond member, I received the King room as a complimentary upgrade. If these rooms are considered an upgrade, I can only imagine the condition of the standard rooms. At nearly $200 for a weekday night, I expected a much higher standard of cleanliness, maintenance, and overall comfort. In my opinion, the condition of the first two rooms simply does not justify that price. I do appreciate that the staff ultimately moved me to a better room, but overall, this stay was disappointing and did not reflect the level of experience I would expect as a Wyndham Diamond member. I hope management takes these concerns seriously, particularly the persistent odors, cleanliness issues, and inadequate air conditioning. The door trim in the bathroom was obviously broken. This would have been a quick repair/replacement, yet it either wasn't communicated to maintenance/management or they chose to ignore it. For me this indicated a lack of respect for the condition of the property and ultimately a lack of care about the guest experience. On another note, the noise from plumbing In upstairs adjacent rooms was quite noticeable, even loud when neighboring guests were showering.

I spoke with a staff member named Mike and provided my credit card information for a five-night stay. I was told that the room was reserved for me. I also received a written reservation confirmation from the motel. The confirmation clearly shows my reservation number (3157), check-in date of July 31, check-out date of August 5. I arrived at approximately 8:30 PM on July 31, expecting to check in. However, the female staff member at the front desk told me that there was no reservation for me. I showed her the confirmation email/document that had been sent by the motel. She then told me that they had called me earlier that day but could not reach me. I checked my phone and had no missed call from the motel. I also showed her the message/confirmation I had received that morning regarding my room. What was most frustrating was that, instead of acknowledging the discrepancy or trying to resolve the situation, I felt that I was being given different explanations for why my confirmed reservation was not being honored. She appeared completely comfortable giving me these explanations even though I had written documentation of the reservation. Because of this situation, I was left without a room late in the evening and had to spend additional money on Uber to find another hotel. I am posting this review because I want the owner/management to be aware of what happened. If a reservation is confirmed in writing, guests should be able to rely on it. If there was an issue with the reservation, I should have been contacted and informed before I arrived--not left to discover the problem at 8:30 PM. I strongly recommend that anyone considering staying here keep written proof of their reservation and confirm directly with management before arriving. This was an extremely stressful and disappointing experience, and I would not want another traveler to find themselves in the same situation.

The staff working the desk did great and answered any questions we had. There's two sides to the parking lot for this hotel, with only one side with the driveway open. Parking isn't free even though it looks free to someone who doesn't have a reservation here. You pay $15 for one car to park in your reservation per night, and an additional car is $20. They ask for the car color, make, model, and year of your car so just have that info prepared. Both of the rooms were pretty clean and impressive despite the old building this hotel is in. I slept well through the night as the AC/heater system was on and it was also easy to adjust and worked perfectly well. The TV isn't a smart TV and plays cable channels. There was a medium-sized mini-fridge to our delight and there was even a microwave included. Blowdryer in the bathroom with sample sized shampoo and conditioner. No ironing board, no pool, or personal gym. Elevator worked smoothly and there's a staircase to walk up at easily. You can use one of the two luggage carts at the lobby for a very smooth process with luggage. Easy drive to the Galleria mall and is also nearby many restaurants.
